First let me say that I love a good hot dog. Almost every city has a hot dog joint that's better than anywhere else you can find in town and has been around forever. In my hometown of Raleigh, NC that place is The Roast Grille and when I lived in Orlando, FL that place was Hot Dog Heaven. Dog House Drive In is definitely the best hot dog spot in Albuquerque. I haven't lived here very long and I drove by the place several times and I never got the chance to stop in until yesterday. A couple of people had highly recommended the place to me and I was excited to check out the spot. There is no indoor dining, always....not just because of Covid. There was the sweetest lady going from car to car taking orders and delivering food. When she saw me snapping photos of the restaurant she told me to give her a minute to turn on the neon lights which might make for a better picture. I ordered a foot long chili cheese dog with mustard and onion, an order of fries and a large soft drink which set me back 10 bucks and some change. The hot dog was perfection. Fresh bun, delicious weiner, and the chili on top surprised me. In all my days I've never had hot dog chili on a dog that was spicy. Never even occurred to me. It was absolutely delicious. A slow burn that builds in your mouth as you keep consuming the dog but never gets too hot. I loved everything about my hot dog. The fries were pretty good, too. Shoestring French fries that were really crispy on the outside. There is a tiny park across the street with one picnic table and so I walked over and enjoyed my meal there at dusk. It was an absolutely gorgeous day in ABQ. Again, the lady taking the orders and bringing out the food was such a total sweetheart of a person. I tipped her $3. I will most definitely be back. And soon. Just writing this review has made me hungry for one of their hot dogs.

Came here because it showed up in Breaking Bad and because small joints like this are usually really good. First good sign was I almost wasn’t able to find a parking spot - you can tell how much people who live here love this place. The lady who served us was very kind. Ended up getting a burger because I like burgers more than hot dogs but still - I didn’t leave disappointed!!! Small joints like this just have that magic touch and I don’t know why. The only thing I didn’t like about it is that it’s not close enough to Phoenix for me to come back for a while :(

I haven't been to this place in about 20 years! I ordered the footlong red chili hot dog with cheese. It's not as hot as I remember, but still pretty good. The fries were not that great. They were like those fries you get at the cafeteria in middle school, full of grease. The prices are good. The Wait staff was very pleasant and very fast. If you park in the parking lot, they'll come to your car and take your order. I've posted a picture of the menu.

Had to stop at the doghouse after the breaking bad tour! Fast drive in service and pretty good hot dog and onion rings.

I have lived in ABQ my whole life and I've heard some really good things about this place and I finally tried it out the other night. I got a chili cheese dog with onions with a side of fries and I was shocked by how good the chili cheese dogs are! I contently think about this place and want to go back all the time, I just wish that I didn't live on the other side of town otherwise I'd probably be here every day! 10/10 definitely recommend!

I don't know what everyone is saying that the food is delicious. It's garbage. Ordered a foot long with onions, relish and mustard. Wanted kraut but they don't use that, whats up with that! The bun was burnt, the hot dog was skinny like a pencil, cold and tasteless. The condiments were sparse, not worth 6 bucks and change. Servers are nice. Go for pictures if you're Beaking Bad fan. Otherwise not worth it.

Ordered 3 meals on May 2nd, 2023. The order they messed up on was a double green chili cheeseburger with Onion rings and a Large Dr.Pepper. I returned all the way home after receiving my order and noticed they forgot my Large Dr.Pepper. Instead of giving me the green chili double cheeseburger, They also gave me a cheese burger with one patty. No lettuce, no pickles, no Tomatoes, no Mayo or ketchup. I called and the lady at the Dog House and she told me they can’t do anything about it. I paid all of that money for garbage! I just want my money back at that point. All of my family was disgusted with their customer service. We didn’t even eat their food at that point.

The food is ok but I grew up with tommy burger. We ordered the foot long chili dog with cheese the frito pie with meet and the tater tots. Either they screwed up the order or their tater tots look like french fries. Sadly the fries where the best part of the meal. The chili was very spicy and didn't have much of a flavor to it. The frito pie was a nice mix of everything but again with so much chili it was hard to taste any of it.

Who needs indoor dining? Lol. As always the best chile cheese dogs in the world. Only wish they would have had onion rings. Great food, great service and of course, great friends.

Great food especially for the price. Ate here after the Breaking Bad tour and, being a BB fan aside, they have really good dogs. The chili has some heat and is what makes the dog. Chili cheese fries are a must. Inside is closed so the servers come to your car. There were probably 15 cars there when we arrived and we only had to wait maybe 2 minutes for her to take our order. We ordered 2 dogs and chili cheese fries and had it in less than 5 minutes. Not sure where the haters are getting their dogs but I doubt they're real

Came for the Breaking Bad got a drive-in. Didn't realize it didn't have window service, but the lady hustling between cars got us straightened out quickly. It's drive-in food. If you like that, you'll like this.

On a nine day road trip, we came through Albuquerque on a Sunday, and Dog House was closed; however, we got our typical Breaking Bad photos. On our return trip, we came through and ate at the Dog House, sitting at one of the booths out front. Got in another round of photos. The parking lot was packed with cars, around which one server was bustling about as fast as she could. Service was pretty darned good for how busy they were. Maybe we caught them on an off day, but we found the hotdogs to be really bad--almost cold, thrown on a budget bun, and without much flavor. Really one of the most disappointing hotdogs I've ever tasted. Sad, because I really wanted to like this place.

Just a muuuuust stop for every route 66 traveler and of course you can see how locals love this place. Spicy and nice . It's a drive thru kind of. And the lady would take your order to your car.

I grew up with the Dog house. What made them excellent was the Quality. The quality of the food has changed. Unfortunately, you can taste the cheapness of the food. I can be honest it is mediocre. The only only only thing DH has different is the chili. Oh you can't buy more than one side of chili. Even the DH owner knows it's the only good thing.

Best Chilli cheese hot dog i've had EVER!! BEST CORN DOG!! We are on a road trip form San Diego CALIFORNIA to St. Louis and stumbled across Dog House, did not let us down. Chill cheese dog is on POINT. CORN dog was crispy with a nice crunch. At the same time fluffy and soft inside. The BEST. Cheese tots,, need i say more....I think not.

I really wanted to love this place. I thought the service was great, the food, not so much. The hotdogs were rubber like and the chili was terrible. I love spice, but the sauce was way too spicy. There were three of us and we all felt the same way. We eat whole jalapeños with most meals so we're not wimps. The spice over powered everything else. But I will not lie, if you drive past you'll stop. It's too iconic not to.

Hands Down, The Best Chili Dog i have ever had! It was Perfect. Not to spicey but just made to perfection. If you had this on a hot day you might think it is a little spicey, but on a cold day it is perfect. Well worth the wait and very friendly folks to serve you. Could not ask for more.

Wifey liked the 🌭. It was just weird the way they served you. You stay in the car. And they come to your car. The only problem with that was. They have absolutely no idea who was there first. And we got over looked.

I absolutely love this restaurant. It is a divey little hot dog place on the side of a busy road. We got the chili cheese dogs and they were absolutely delicious! The tater tots were little overdone. Overall an A+ experience despite the overdone tater tots.

Why do you all like this place? I mean, the ladies are super nice. But dang, the food is terrible. I got a cheese burger, which was ok. But those chili cheese fries were disgusting. I've never not eaten fries. Like ever. And I did not eat these. I had heartburn for a day. I had bought a chili dog for my daughter, and they were also not impressed at all. They never turn down a hot dog. I spent 20 bucks on this. Y'all crazy.

Since COVID dining room is now closed to eat inside. However they have always had the option to eat in your vehicle and that is still available! I personally love dog house. Definitely a must try if traveling through NM or just eat there every chance you get type of place if you live here! I'm super picky! The Chile is HOT... IF you're not from here / don't eat Chile ! I love it tho. Not hot for us! The service is great ! Usually pretty quick even when busy their wait time is pretty low! Definitely recommend this place! To your friends and family and don't forget to mention to loved ones passing through looking for a good place to try NM style food!

You gotta love the Dog House, it's an Albuquerque staple. The dining room is closed for now, but they still run the drive in like they always have. The wait staff is friendly, and they're good at seeing when someone pulls up. The food is great, but be ready for some heat. If you haven't been here, I highly recommend you go.

Have lived in ABQ most of my life and The Dog House, although once really good, has gone downhill. The customer service is terrible. There's no menus and if you're new to the place and don't know that, when they come to your car hurrying to take your order, they'll angrily tell you to go online for a menu but it's not accurate and they are not helpful with guiding you to the correct one. Then they'll walk away while you look and then take forever (if ever) to come back to take your order. We've left on occasion because they simply never came back to the car and there was no grabbing their attention because they have this weird way of taking orders as cars pull into parking spaces... We've stopped trying to go because the service is so bad. If you do get to order, the food comes out cold, and presentation is NOT one of their strong suits. If you're a tourist and just want to come here for a Breaking Bad Photo op, do that and move onto somewhere else like Bob's Burgers or Julian's Burgers & more up the street if you're really craving a hot dog. Lol. Sorry Dog House, do better.

I have not ever really been a fan of Dog House, mostly because their chili is too hot for me. But when we went a few days ago, the attendant taking orders car side was so friendly and the food was good! It changed how I feel about their establishment. If you're on central and see the Dog House sign pull in and try the food! The fries are amazing!! 👍

This has always been one of my Albuquerque favorite drive up spots. I remember enjoying the Dog House as a little girl with my Dad in the 60s (without telling my age ). I brought my kids and now my grandchildren here too! It is still the little diamond restaurant on Central Route 66. I'm so happy it survived Covid and it's high quality of food has been consistent all these years. Their small dining room is presently closed, but their car hop service is excellent! You park, they come to you, take your order, then deliver your order directly to your car and collect payment. The orders come out quickly even when the parking lot is full ... Amazing! I recommend the footlong chile (red) cheese dog (with onions), their burgers and Chicken sandwich are out of this world; be sure to order deliciously crispy French Fries cooked to perfection, along with a milk shake in your favorite flavor .. (yes, their shakes hand down are one of the best in town!) You can look at their menu on their web page before arriving, but there is also a large menu sign on the exterior wall when you drive up. Their hours are limited (caters mostly to the lunch crowd) as they are still trying to hire an evening crew. There are a few limited dining tables outside their front door. Start your family tradition today and create special family memories with your kids, grandkids, and hopefully great-grand kids over the years at the Dog House, enjoy delicious fast food menu items ... there's something different here to be experienced by various generations. ... a quick drive up convenience which stands the test of restaurateurs ingenuity! It's also a great conversation starter.

Mmmmm … tasty. The foot long dogs were good. Just enough on it to make a little bit of a mess, but no so bad that you were covered in it. Add the fact that Saul got beat up not a few feet from where I parked and Jesse gave some money to someone in that same lot … it was cool being next to some Breaking Bad/BCS locations. Get the chili dog. You’ll be happy that you did.

Nice ladies who work there and always very helpful service. Chili is a bit spicy as it should be. Eat the dog quickly; gets bad fast but it's really good when fresh.

  • 4/5 James Michael F. 5 months ago on Google
This is an Albuquerque staple that has even been featured on some shows. The menu is very basic, with hotdogs, fries, and Frito pies. The food is all about the chili. Some days, the chili is spicier than other days. This was a hot chili day, but I thought it was perfect. I had a frito pie and some fries, and everything was excellent. This is a restaurant that closed its dining room during the COVID pandemic, but it has still never reopened it. They only have a few tables outside, so unless you get a table, you have to eat this messy food in your car. Because your outside, the ordering process is a little wonky. This place opens at 1030 a.m and we got there at 1038, and we got the last table.

Iconic place been here longer then I’ve walked this planet. Small dogs with some great flavor. Get the foot long with chili. Can’t eat inside but there are a couple tables outside. Mostly a car hop place.

An interesting hole in the wall hot dog place where the staff come to your car and take your order. The hot dogs definitely had a unique flavor with the condiments they provide but It personally wasn't for me. I think it's the kind of place you come to regularly if you were from the area for nostalgic reasons. If you're from out of town or the state then I would probably look somewhere else but it's pretty popular so you may want to try it at least once to say you did.

Stopped by because of Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul. Love me a chili dog and they didn’t disappoint! The chili has a great kick to it and I’m only sorry I live 7 hours away or I’d make this a regular spot! Had the foot long chili cheese dog with onions, onion rings and a strawberry shake and it was fantastic! Next time I pass through I’ll definitely make the stop.

The Dog House is great. Here’s the deal, it should be open on Sundays. The front door has slammed shut just like it always has 30 years. The food is great and the service is what you’d expect from a unique diner. My order: 4 chili cheese dogs, no onions, and a large orange soda. Just enough to have a couple dogs later in the day, and just enough soda to wash down 2 dogs for your current meal.
