This gym is literally ALWAYS humid and has poor circulation. You can barely tell they put the AC on unless you’re standing directly under the vent. I’ve gotten Covid TWICE from coming here, even while wearing a mask, which I can only assume is because of the incredibly poor air quality. With it being summer it’s only getting worse. The showers also very obviously are never cleaned. I’ve been coming since for over a year now and the same gross shampoo/body wash puddles will sit in the corners for months, the floors are just slime, mold on the shower curtains (if there even is one) just completely disgusting. Half of the showers are missing body wash. Thank god they painted the locker rooms from red to blue though. Because that’s a top priority. The gym itself could be nice, they have lots of great equipment and classes etc, but clearly cleanliness and overall health and wellness is surprisingly not their top priority.

The equipment is good but I've started to notice things at this location do not get fixed. The water fountains have been broken for weeks, there is a few water leaks on the roof, the ac couldn't keep up during the summer months, and there's HUGE potholes (plural) throughout the parking lot. Someone could really get hurt if they fall on one. They really need to start investing some money in the facility. This is getting ridiculous.

For the past year the gym has been in disrepair. Equipment breakdowns are frequent and they are slow to repair them. The operations manager doesn't bother to clean or maintain existing equipment. She merely walks around pointing at things. Cleaning is sporadic and poorly done. There are cobwebs everywhere. They took two days to paint the locker rooms, but did not clean them. They left a series of lockers that have been warped and destroyed by a roof leak over a year ago in place. It looks terrible. None of the other defined fitness gyms have these problems.

Love the gym, have been coming for 8 years or so. Customer service normally good until tonight. Called ahead this evening to see if I could have a friend, who's a prospective customer, lift for free on a 1-day pass to consider changing gyms. Talked to an employee named Joe, must have misheard the name, but they told me that was fine and they would see me soon, then ended the call. When I got there, I scanned in and asked about the pass, which led to Leonardo immediately disputing whether I had actually talked to anyone since he stated nobody named 'Joe' worked there. Not a fan of immediate distrust from a customer service rep, given that the call was in my phone log. He said there is no one day free pass. Not having a free day pass is fine, but confronting me coldly and not believing me at all that someone told me yes is pretty annoying. Paid the $20, but next time maybe Leo can be a bit more friendly while discussing.

I have been coming here for years because of the pool, hot tub, steam room, bikes and water exercise that help my arthritis. I swam during the pandemic when most stayed away so I could stay functional and in less pain. Now it seems that there is always broken equipment that doesn't get fixed for months, and cleanliness is sometimes lacking. This used to be the best gym around and it is only @ 10 years since the big "remodel", but it seems like a much older place now. I wish they would keep things up more and open up the steam rooms again, which have been MIA since the pandemic. Steam kills the virus! It would be much safer to be in a steam room than a sauna these days! Get with it Defined or you will lose your membership to other gyms!

*Edited to point out that Defined replied to this review saying they fired their personal trainer manager. So you know this isn't a fake review.* I bought their promotional 3-for-$100 bundle of training sessions to start my fitness journey. Before I had purchased, I made sure to ask if the sessions could be for anything I wanted since my sole focus was to get started on heavy weightlifting and proper form. I was told that since it was my money, it was my right to hire professionals who cared about my goals. Their assurance turned out to be sweet talk and I quickly realized how wrong I was in choosing Defined. The first session was to talk about my goals and the personal trainer manager was very unprofessional. It turned into an hour-long negging session when he realized I knew a few things about nutrition rather than an evaluation session. A pointless, disrespectful and infuriating onboarding appointment. To basically try to get my money's worth, I went ahead and scheduled my first training session, another young man. I told the trainer my goal of heavy weightlifting and learning proper form since I knew enough about nutrition to get started. Nope, he said that he had a degree in nutrition and so a nutritional powerpoint would be our next appointment no matter what I actually bought the sessions for. The current short 30-minute session was putting me on the threadmill for what he himself called "mindless cardio" while he chatted up another gym-goer. If I wanted Afterward, I went to request a refund and (SURPRISE!) no refunds on the 3-for-$100 bundle no matter what terrible service you're getting. I was finally given a female trainer and she was a lot more respectful. However, the feeling that my sessions were being purposefully stretched out to get more expensive and short sessions from me never left. We only practiced one power-move for the rest of the sessions left and that was the end of my $100 and hopes of feeling like a valued customer. Personal trainers are great if you find genuine ones who care about your goals. This place definitely has money-hungry ones who do anything but. Please find another place to take instruction from if you are TRULY SERIOUS about diving head-first into your fitness goals.

I went to one personal training session. I don’t know who trains your trainers or what certification you require but my experience was not good. If I didn’t know a thing of two about training I might not know that you probably should not ask a 58 YO, out of shape woman to try and lift a 100lb weighted bag as a first attempt lift. You should always start lighter and go up.

The pools at Sandia and McLeod have been closed consistently since October. Nobody answers the phone at the corporate office to complain to. The locker rooms stink and are dirty and all of the soap dispensers are torn off the wall. Update as of 1/21*** I went in to cancel my membership and was talked into staying. I was told the issue had been fixed. It lasted two weeks without a closure due to a chemical imbalance and today the pool is without heat. I went all the way down there and had to get in the pool to discover this. When I went to the front desk they lied and said they had sent out a notice.

I used to love this place prior to the pandemic. However, recently DF seems to be focused more on opening new locations than on keeping this one in good shape. The steam room has been out of operation since the start of the pandemic, with no sign it will ever reopen. There are various structural problems; they have had a bucket to catch water leaking thru the roof into the men's dressing room for months now. The thing that put me over the top is a constantly running/leaking shower in the men's showers. It had been running more than 6 cups of water down the drain every minute since some time in August. (6 cups X 60 = 22.5 gallons an hour = 540 gallons a day = 48,600 gallons since this problem began. That's a hell of a lot of water wasted here in the desert. - And it is HOT water, so they are wasting energy as well.) I have talked to several of the employees at this place, and they all say the same thing, "We have told the bosses, but we can't do anything else." I think its a scandal that this business can waste water like that with impunity during out drought. The only reason I gave it a second star is for how well they were doing in the past.

This location is not the best. The General Manager Nick has impoverished people and customer skills. The Personal Training is low quality not worth it. The pool is unsanitary. I watched plenty of people come from the Sauna with sweat dripping off of them, then get In the pool or hot tub without showering. The Sauna is infested with black mold, along with the showers. Very disappointed with my experience thus far.

I’ve been coming to this location for more than 6 years. However, the air conditioner has been broken since the start of the summer (if not longer). It feels like you’re working out in a sauna. They just have a ton of mop buckets under the vents. The roof and windows leak every time it rains. For the money you pay, you’re better off looking at other establishments.I know I’m going to start looking at other gyms this week. It’s unbearable at this point.

This Gym is a total Ripp off ! When they say Join for 1 dollar don't believe them because it's 1 dollar then in a few days it's 43 dollars and some change. Plus they don't go over plans in detail and want u to sign up for the 12 month membership so they can take your money. Plus all the bulky people look at new people weird.

Love this gym but lately it's been so hot! I think one of their Ac units went down and they haven't fixed it. Got home from the gym and felt like passing out. I'll change this to 5 stars when they fix the ACas it's been down a long time. They had fixed the A/C awesome gym awesome staff!

Helpful people. Good prices for what you get. Management is like none other. That is not the best part. The best part is that it is not just a gym for muscle heads. There are all types of people there and you don't feel like you stick out like a sore thumb being out of shape. The gym is clean and orderly. The pool is great too! If you are trying to decide on which gym to choose I suggest going here. I don't think you will be disappointed.

This location is the forgotten and dilapidated location, left to the elements and the poor management. When i joined last year, they mentioned potentially re-opening the steam room, and lured me with the prospect of adding an outdoor functional weight area. Now, it's the beginning of the year (i would assume their busiest time for new memberships) and nothing has gotten better, only worse. The facility is massively humid which causes damage in the locker rooms including mold and constant condensation on the toilets. Literally it is so humid that just walking in the front door sometimes makes my glasses fog up. A few weeks ago the soap dispensers in the shower were taken down without notice for "sanitary " despite other locations still having shower soap. There are missing barbells from the push bench area. Three bathroom stalls either don't work, don't lock, or are closed. The full amount of seating in the sauna can't even be utilized because the top row has been broken for months and is uncomfortable. Anyway, for what it's worth. The gym is cheap and there's lots of eye candy. I would think they could come up with other revenue streams rather than cut so many corners every chance they get. You'd think that the gym would make some improvements before the busiest time of year.

I had a membership for a couple of years until my work schedule changed. I was never able to go to the gym due to their limited hours. They have horrible hours and seems like they are never open! Other than that the equipment variety is nice, I just wish they had more open hours on the weekend so I can get my membership back.

Amazing club, you definitely feel a sense of community that you don’t feel like at any other of the locations. The staff is friendly and professional, the equipment is new, and the facilities are always clean. Sad about the steam room not re-opening but that’s my only complaint after many years of being a member.

I've been a member for something like 8 years. I love the people, the members, the atmosphere, the equipment, the location, but they HAVE to do something about the AC! It's crazy to have one of the biggest gyms in the city with terrible AC, especially with 100+ temps outside! If you're thinking of joining and using the Sandia Club do yourself a favor and wait until fall or winter! 🥵

I have been going to defined for years and have never been met with the disrespect I was met with today by management until this morning. I left a personal rope I used for press downs yesterday and returned today to see if I could find it. I asked the first girl who scanned my code if someone returned the specified item and if it's in their lost in found. She checked it and it was not there so I went and looked at the places I had it last to see if I could find it. I was not able to find it. I returned to the desk and asked the female manager if she could check again, she goes to a different bin full of items, only moves two and tells me it's no there. I then proceed to ask if she knows who closed the gym floor last night because maybe they might have seen it. Our conversation: Me: "Do you know who closed the gym floor last night?" Manager(with attitude): "I do. There were two of them" Me: "Do you know their names?" Manger (again with attitude): "I do know their names. The employees who close the floor bring items that don't belong to defined to the lost and found so if it's not in the lost in found then someone probably took it." (like I said, I've been going here for years and know people who work there that steal." Me: "I don't understand why you don't want to give me their names? Can I have their names?" Manger (still with attitude): "Noah." Me: "Ok and the other one?" Manager: "Derrick." At that point I had to leave. The unwillingness of her wanting to help a loyal customer and the attitude and lack of respect I was shown just for trying to find something I lost was disgusting. I don't know what it is with the high turnover this defined has, because there have been some really good managers, but she would not be missed should it come time for defined to make some adjustments.

Love this gym. I'm there M-F at 4:30am. Not only are the other members caring and supportive, the morning staff is great. Natasha is always ready to meet you with a smile and cheery disposition, and a "Have a great day!" when you leave. Super sweet girl I've come to look forward to seeing each morning.

I see that an "owner" responds to these reviews so maybe I can get some help by leaving a review. My husband and I have always loved this gym however in December 2022 we needed to freeze our account. I paid for the 6 month freeze to each of our accounts. Since then, our cards have been charged every single month, including a higher rate for January with 'new year fees'. I have personally walked in to the Juan Tabo location at least a dozen times to try to get some help with this. We've been told multiple times that the request has been sent to billing. Since the beginning of January I have been begging for help with getting these unauthorized charged refunded only to be given the run around and charged over and over again. As of now we've been refunded $75.40 and are still owed $204.67. It is ABSOLUTLEY INSANE that no one within this company cares to help with what is a very simple billing issue. I have called the corporate office on Eubank multiple times, no one answers any of these extensions. I have left voice messages, I have emailed corporate. NEVER a response. If you need to freeze your account, DON'T DO IT, JUST CANCEL, THEY WILL CHARGE YOU ANYWAY. Owner: PLEASE CONTACT ME

Was told by rep that in order to avoid a 180 cancelation fee we would need to wait until 4/01/2023. Was told when we came in that we should have come in the 25th so we will be charged another month which the first rep did not mention. Horrible customer service. Don't like being lied to just to make some more money out of us 😒

I started going back to the gym but felt I wasn't motivated enough to help myself. So I got paired with Sydney Shilling. She was a blessing. She is an excellent personal trainer who motivates you without being too pushy. Thank you Sydney, for all you have done for me. I really appreciate it!

This place is massive for $43 a month. There is so much equipment that I have never had to wait. Occasionally something will break down, but sooner or later they get it fixed. To have classes in addition to all the machines, free weights, swimming pool, spinning equipment, etc is just a lot. You don't realize at first the Juan Tabo location takes up the entire strip center. It's amazingly huge with tons of equipment of various types. I've never dealt with their personal trainers and don't plan to. Staff is kind of what you would expect from a bunch of ex-athletes, but they are polite. The clientele ranges from serious bodybuilders to seniors just trying to maintain a good life. I'm more toward the "just want to maintain my health" and have never felt uncomfortable there. I wish they had more kettlebells. The carpet is pretty worn and dirty, but otherwise the facility is well maintained. I have seen a lot of employees cleaning and sanitizing during covid. I've been pretty happy there for the last 9 months. The young guy that sold me my membership should have been more clear, but once I got it all ironed out things are fine.

Only been a member for a few months so far but it's been a pretty good experience so far! All the equipment is nice enough and the cost isn't too bad at all. Also nice to be able to hit any of the locations depending on where I happen to be in town and I don't have to remember a card or anything since it's on my phone. Definitely prefer this one out of the ones I've been to though. Huge space, lots of machines and kind staff. Also helps that's it's close to home of course.

will remove 1 star once they get set the temp ac to 75 or below. Had another member say he brought a thermometer it read 90. Not sure if it's that hot but 80+ degrees with the number of members paying is unacceptable. I didn't sign up for a hot yoga studio.

The gym is okay. Been coming for two years now and I don’t know if anything has ever been deep cleaned in that entire time I’ve been coming. Machines with literal dust bunnies in the crevices, shoe prints all over etc. They luckily usually have a good supply of wipes to wipe things off myself, but apparently employees would rather walk around talking to each other looking important than actually cleaning or fixing anything. The lat pull down machine has been down for almost a month now even though the sign says it should have been fixed weeks ago. Oh and don’t worry, if you’re enjoying your workout one of the employees WILL take their time to come and call you out on the gym floor for wearing “bad shoes” and tell you to leave in the middle of your workout instead of taking care of literally anything that needs maintenance. Sorry, but my shoes don’t affect anyone but me and unless you’re going to provide shoes for me to workout in, mind your business. I’ve been wearing the same shoes for the whole two years I’ve been coming here yet somehow now there’s an issue.

An excellent gym. It has a full range of equipment for serious lifters (and several sets of everything, so you never have to wait) but plenty of machines for less experienced gym-goers, too. Has the vibe of a no-frills garage for power lifters, but more accessible.

Been to this location only 4× and it deserves a 5/5 Star Review. As a local influencer in town, I can proudly claim that this is another great gym to work out for anyone new to Albuquerque or in search of a new gym. Of course, as Defined Fitness Metro is my dominant gym - the Sandia Club is my 2nd home gym. I would like to commemorate The GM, Ian Clark! He has an extradinary leadership skills and it is sad he is leaving. However, I pray his great leadership skills in the Sandia Club will spread to wherever he is destined next! I wish Ian the best and will continue to enjoy this gym! Great space for all people of ALL backgrounds!

Pretty Good, but I signed up because they had a sauna. However the sauna looks like it hasn’t been mopped in months and is covered by so much grime it coalesces into a kind of gelatinous ‘mud’ under the seats. Gross

One of the biggest gyms in the city for a wonderful price monthly. I worked out 6 ish months here before moving out of town and absolutely loved it. I usually went weekdays 4:30am since I enjoyed the group of people there but later in the morning is still a good experience (shout out to Julian if he still works there)! almost always an available machine and the desk staff were super nice! would 100% recommend to a friend!

Great gym overall, probably the best in ABQ. You will be hard pressed to find a better gym in ABQ. Some suggestions is keep time limit on machines so people are not sitting on cell phones. Add a leg curl machine and leg extension machine (like those 2 good ones near the windows). Make sure most of the stair steppers work (those are my favorite cardio). And finally increase day care hours, Especially Saturday! If I see a some of these changes I will gladly upgrade to 5 stars.

Was at this location and witnessed someone taking selfies in the locker room and was told that there is no policy about it yet I know people aren't supposed to be taking selfies and I informed someone at the front desk and they were rude to me about it. This is not my preferred location to go to this location if its closer to where I'm at that day or where I have to go after. Also it's a little better than the last few times I went earlier in the year but the locker rooms are always dirty

We self quarantined for 14 months with all groceries and supplies delivered and no visitors to our home. I became a complete couch potatoe. After becoming fully vaccinated I ventured out to a doctor for the first time in decades. It turns out that when I wasn't looking I got old. My new doctor told me that I needed to lower my: weight, blood pressure and glucose or they would be lowering me into the ground sooner than I had planned. I have an upgraded medicare insurance plan so that I can barely afford the medication prices big pharma charges. This plan also includes membership in Silver Sneakers a gym and fitness program that Defined Fitness honors. After two months of 50 minutes of brisk walking on the treadmill 6 days a week I have lost 20 pounds and lowered my blood pressure by 30 points consistently all without medication. Studies show that brisk walking is almost as benificial as runniing but easier on the knees and with less injuries. My morale has gone way up. I have less resentment and hostility towards young anti maskers who feel their right to party trumps my right to live. Pun intentional. Luke and the staff are pretty diligent about enforcing the mask policy regularly walking through the gym and adivisng the IQ challenged that if the mask isn't over the nose it's worhtless. I can't speak to the pool, locker room or sauna as that's a little too close qaurters for me at this point. I miss the sauna. If you are a fully vaccinated member of Silver Sneakers and want to get healthy I highly recommend Defined Fitness. If you are not fully vaccinated I recommend you put your affairs in order and stay away from me. Your membership is already paid up.

I train at the Juan Tabo location. The range of equipment is wonderful! There is a range of fixed path of travel machines to a power lifting area. The membership is as diverse as the equipment and most folks are friendly. The manager there is a great guy that is always there to help. The other staff are great too. Courteous and respectful, they are always willing to help - case in point; I accidentally left my 4" regulation lifting belt there and a week later I asked Joe and he knew exactly where it was and unhesitatingly restored it to me. So... a big shout out to everyone at Defined Fitness Juan Tabo! Thank you!!!

Several things I like about Defined. 1. the many locations in NM, I travel for work and if I am in Espanola I can workout in Santa Fe same for work in Abq and Farmington. 2. the staff is always friendly and helpful almost like friends/family. 3. the amazing trainers to get you back in shape and motivated and on the correct diet, Especially Ms. Sydney Shilling!!! 4. the amount of equipment is rarely unavailable even during the busiest times. 5. the patrons, I once left my air pods on top of the lockers and a few days later when I realized they were missing I called and they said yup we have em at the front desk. have also left my phone on equipment multiple times (magnet case) and it is always there when I return for it. We do need a location in Las Cruses though. (hint hint)

I've gone to the gym 4-5 days a week for 11 years, so I have a fairly good basis for comparison. Defined used to be my home gym, but I moved away from ALB 6 years ago and so now I only go to Defined when I'm in town visiting. I was shocked to see how filthy the women's locker room is now. The floor looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years (this was at 9:00 am so it hadn't had traffic all day...) and it's evident they never clean inside the lockers. In the shower and toilet areas the structural posts are rotting and corroded. And the showers need to be completely replaced. The scale platform is so dirty it's scary. This is really sad because Defined used to be spic and span. To be fair, the gym floor itself is exceptional. They have every piece of equipment you could ever want. And they keep the equipment in good condition. The staff is always friendly and helpful.

I have to go somewhere else on leg days. No air-conditioning. We pay all this money for our membership, plus annual feed...

😠 Great place if you love old man sweat! If you go during a weekday, you'll find lots of old men who don't bother to wipe down their equipment after they're done and the employees won't do anything about it. In fact, I've never seen an employee cleaning the machines themselves despite being there nea...
