Small but packed to the ceiling with memorabilia. Certainly the place to go if you like model rail roading. Entry is free requesting donations.

The Wheels Museum is volunteer run and was such a treat! We visited a bunch museums and this sort of unofficial museum was, hands down, our favorite. The door was locked when we arrived (I think by accident) but they hurried to let us in when I called and welcomed us warmly. They let my 6yo run the little train we all rode on. Another volunteer gave him a little matchbox car to keep. There were tons of all sorts of antiques on wheels, and some not on wheels. I was amazed by the collection and the enthusiasm and knowledge of the volunteers. Don’t forget to stuff cash in their donation box. They truly deserve it.

A amazing place with great volunteers full of alot information and knowledge on the rail yards. It's free entry but they are ran off donations so if your wanting to know how to help them out do so by donations if not go and enjoy all the stuff they have and ask questions they are good at answering them.

There's a lot of things to see and learn about! Free admission so its a great place to come back to. Moderate size place with cars, trains, and airplanes. There's a toy train that adults and kids can ride. Staff were friendly and was kind enough to show all the remote control cars and also give our boy a free matchbox!! My little one loves trains and had a really hard time leaving since he wanted to watch the trains go. It's a bit hot now but they have fans inside so it's not too bad. Wish there were more things to buy at the souvenir shop so we could show more support that way.

This was an absolutely wonderful misusing full of charming exhibits in the heart of Albuquerque. It's right next to the Railyard market and a super fun way to spend an afternoon. Lots of antique cars, model trains and ephemera from the golden age of the railroad. We learned so much about trains and about Albuquerque! The volunteers were so sweet and knowledgeable. Don't miss this museum!

An extremely different type of museum. Very simple with a few bhands on exhibits. A lot of railroad items. Including large and multiple model train exhibits. A few old unrestored automobiles as well as horse drawn buggies. Period wardrobe exhibit from the turn of the century. Friendly staff. Interiors of the museum need a face lift but doesn't distract from the museum's exhibit.

This place was simply amazing. So much to see and TOUCH! Yes touch. My two boys loved it and cried when it was time to leave. The volunteers were very happy and extremely helpful. We will be returning to visit. Truly a hidden gem in Albuquerque. The atmosphere and exhibits were so cool.

Fun place to visit for free. Just a donation is required and the kiddos can ride a small train and climb in a fire truck! Recommended for family fun!

very cool place to visit. my only complaint is that when there are events going on to place put heaters out there. the museum was cold yesterday and with no heat, everyone had their coats on.

They do a awesome job with the limited space. Little bit of everything for everyone. Free, but please leave a donation.

Horrible experience for myself and 6 year old son with autism. My son was verbally abused by a staff member. Staff member stated β€œI blew air in your face for being a bad boy. Then proceed to say if you continue to be a bad boy I will blow air into your face again. Then intentionally blew loud horn. Told my son that if he touched the locomotive it would cut his hands off.” This was supposed to have been a pleasant learning experience/environment for the group of children I was meeting there whom have autism as well. Hands down horrible experience. We will not be returning. And get this the director of Infinite Learning was told that there would be no issues with this group of autistic children touching etc. #wrongautismmom #wrongautisticchild

Great for kids... They get whistles, train ride, and are able to touch several things. Lots of model trains and old times cars. The docents were super helpful and with interesting facts about all of the cars, trains, and other museum items.

Plan on spending time here, there is so much to see! I didn't know what to expect- maybe a few train models and displays.... There are layouts as big as a small house, a rideable passenger steam train and people who enjoy answering questions. ANNNNDDDDD it's free! (Donations accepted). CLOSES AT NOON.

Very interesting collection of railroad memorabilia. Several model railroad layouts of different scales. The volunteers were very friendly and provided a lot of historical information. We spent more than 2 hours there. Highly recommended!

Equal parts curiosity and nostalgia and a fantastic way to while away a few hours. Make sure to stick around for a story or two; the docents are charming and incredibly knowledgeable. And despite what some may think, no one's too old for a ride on the indoor train. ;) Donations accepted.

What a great museum! I've never heard of it, and honestly the building outside is not presentable, but the inside is opposite. Good place to take your kids to. They have many interesting old things to learn about. It's a gem in Albuquerque πŸ’Ž

A wonderful use of space; filled with antique cars, train memorabilia, and history. The volunteers are great and very patient with little ones. Their kindness went a long way with our family and because of it, core memories were created.

I took my son yesterday and the employees were so nice, we got greet by the resident dog Gus so handsome, thank you to the employee in charge of the model trains that took the time to speak with my son about trains. Everything was excellent.

It was exactly what I expected to see. The old photos and books gives you a picture back in time. The model railroad were very nice. We were the only ones in there and they turned the models on for us.

A great experience for the whole family! A spectacular place of pure nostalgia. Everything wheels and some things that fly . Soon you will see my artwork in this museum. Make the time to see it you won't regret.

Amazing spot. The volunteer staff are all very friendly and happy to talk about anything in the museum. The collection is very eclectic but in a way that keeps you constantly interested. Beyond the various vehicles in all different sizes, from full size to 1/64 model, there are lots of cool books, magazines, and repair manuals. Highly recommend spending a few hours here.

This was an amazing find in Albuquerque while exploring the city! If you're into anything wheel related and enjoy being around others who are passionate and willing to take time to show you around, then make the trip. There is no charge, but support people who make an effort to support our city and drop a donation or at least a good review!

Call before going volunteers staff the museum and may not be there.

  • 4/5 J.R. M. 3 years ago on Google
Very eclectic collection of nostalgic historical pieces to explore. Now that the adults are letting us grown ups play again this place warrants a visit. Model cars and trains of all sizes right up to full size and in an old train barn takes it to where time stopped. Little niche rooms that tell the story of where it has advanced from.
