👎👎The worst service ever here! I WOULD GIVE ZERO STARS IF I COULD! Rude, snotty and uninviting! Had special plans to bring my mom out to eat... There was maybe three other tables occupied, I asked to be sat in the back area instead of right by the kitchen where they come in and out of. The blondy acted like that wasn't an option. I asked several times and they refused, there were several tables that were open, it's fcfs and the two gals just refused. They rush you to order and rush you to leave...not cool! I was not gonna give my service or money to them! I like to support local, but will never ever support Monica's El Portal🚫 Them two blondy girl's are in the wrong business and obviously have no idea of what Customer Service is! As we left to eat elsewhere I saw this sign on there door🤣 that said "treat others the way you want to be treated" uhhh, how bout practice what you preach! SAVE YOURSELF THE hassle and headache! Several similar ratings here about their poor attitude! Even there replies here are a disappointment and sarcastic. I'll wait for it... "Peace & Love"

Fun vibe, great prices, great service, delicious food. Right on the old city of Albuquerque so it is walkable and pretty. Loved the breakfast burrito and margaritas!

I'm always on the hunt for local New Mexican restaurants, and I've found another 👍 Our first visit and we were sat quickly and our food came out even quicker, which is a plus when your starving. I was impressed with the red chile since it had a bite, and it was flavorful as well. My India taco hit the spot since I hadn't had one in a long time, as well as the chile relleno. The oozing cheese is my fav.

Excellent New Mexican food, great service! We're just sorry it took us so long to try Monica's, and we even used to live very nearby! Highly recommend! We had to wait a while on a Saturday early afternoon with a party of 5. It was worth the wait. Several of us had enchiladas, and the red and green chile were both excellent. Papas were awesome. One of us had a pretty good burger and another had an excellent omelet.

My wife & I like trying new restaurants and Monica's El Portal is one of them. The food was delicious, the green Chile gravy on my chicken fried steak was off the wall. Come to find out that Monica has been making her food homemade for 45 years. Well like they say "if it ain't broken don't fix it". Good job you guys we'll definitely will be coming back, Thank you

Tasty traditional NM dishes specializing in breakfast and lunch. Friendly service and good coffee. The burrito was enormous although not too much once my friend got started on it. I had the breakfast enchilada from the light menu and I was stuffed half way through. Bottom line you won’t leave hungry! Pro move: Get the red and green sauce. Life is too short to choose just one ;)

We enjoyed an authentic New Mexican breakfast at Monica's El Portal Restaurant near Old Town in Albuquerque. We ordered the delicious huevos rancheros, breakfast burger, breakfast burrito, and breakfast stuffes sopapilla. The home made tortillas was a nice touch. We finished our meal with fresh sopapillas and honey. The service was good and the price was reasonable. They also have plenty of parking.

A beauty of a gem. Great food, wonderful staff, nice patio and interior. We will most certainly be back. The Blanco queso was delicious. Their green chile was so on. Everything was fresh and just what we needed.

What a charming and wonderful dining experience. I highly encourage eating breakfast here. This was our first time to New Mexico and they taught us the practice of putting honey onto warm, fresh tortilla chips as the appetizer. And that right there described my visit. Warm, fresh, safe, clean, and entirely content. oh, and the sopapillas with honey were a must! (We were driving to see Smokey the Bear park later that day so he often made an appearance in our photos haha) I ordered the omelet and got the red sauce with it. Next time I might order the sauce on the side because I thought it was a little extensive for me, but we REALLY enjoyed our visit. By the time we were leaving, the place was really starting to pack it in and we could tell it was a popular spot!

The food was good. The plates were small for the prices. Our waitress was not very professional. She told us where we could go sit instead of leading us to a place to sit. She never came around to refill my husband’s coffee and acted like she was in a hurry to leave. She came to check on us once after bringing our food to us. My husband saw her throw something small across the kitchen, it hit a wall. Not sure why this happened, but not professional behavior.

I always take family and friends to Monica's as a true representation of authentic New Mexican cuisine. Located right off the Old Town plaza, this place has so much charm and is a cozy spot to bring your partner for Lunch. All the food is homemade and Monica herself can be seen in the kitchen adding her personal touch to all the traditional dishes served. The ambience is unmatched as diners actually eat in what was Monica's home at one time. There are of course many ABQ restaurants that serve local favorites but this place is VERY different. Do yourself a favor and check it out. You will be very glad you did.

Okay, but nothing particularly stands out. I wouldn’t recommend them to friends nor return. As a New Mexican I expect better taste, I personally found their food a bit bland. But they do have fast service.

First time eating here! Our first experience was great, was seated when we arrived, and parking lot is big. All employees were fast and efficient, it was all teamwork and love the fast-paced. They were onto our drinks and kept checking on us. The atmosphere here was great, it made me feel like home. Food was delicious and authentic. I had xmas chili and they both were good! I will be back here again!! Thank you so much for the experience.

Whenever we travel through Albuquerque, we plan a meal there. This trip through we decided to try Monica's. We were traveling with our dog, so the covered outdoor patio was the deciding factor for us. Everything was delicious and our server was personable and attentive. Definitely on our list of places to go back to.

I can never eat at Monica's, my lunch break is usually at 4 pm and they are closed. So I went at 2pm. They food was great and I love their rice. The restaurant was busy, causing service to be a little slow. Service was very friendly and great.

The food was 👌🏻 we all finished our plates and didn’t have to eat again for the rest of the day! Sopapillas we’re maybe the best I’ve ever had and the chile relleno batter was perfect. I’d skip the margaritas, but everything else was fantastic.

Food was good, but the spice level in red and green sauces was through the roof! Some of our group wisely got sauce "on the side" which was a good idea. If they have to post a warning that there are no refunds for food being too spicy, maybe they should reconsider the level of heat.

A great local restaurant. We went during prime lunch time and waited about 10 min for a table for 4. The food is fresh and fast. There is a variety of beers and margaritas in addition to soda. Try the Indian Taco as it was our favorite dish. The salsa are HOT!

The food was good, and that is where it ends. Went to a planning meeting here. The staff put all our amounts on one tab so we were unable to see the individual charges. When we went to pay, myself and another committee member were charged the same even dollar amount, for vastly different meals. The state director of our committee needed receipts for proof of purchase to balance the books. The staff got very angry and berated our director that receipts were not given on cash purchases. They wouldn't even give me an itemized receipt when I requested one due to the cost discrepancy. We will not have another meeting here again. Nor will any of us be visiting for personal meals either. I have never been treated so poorly, and will not allow this establishment to treat me so again. The whole "no receipts for cash purchases" seems like questionable business practices to me.
