AN ALBUQUERQUE STAPLE Founded in 1949 by Dave McCarty, Mac's has been in NM for 73 YEARS! GRAVY SMOOTH & BUTTERY! I love their Original Rough Dinner. GREAT PRICE POINT. The steak fingers are tender and the batter is light and buttery. The gravy is smooth with a peppery bite to it. The dinner comes with fries but its a bit on the light side. I recommend buying a side of small fries to go with it. I will definitely return and highly recommend this place! Support local business and GO TO MAC'S!

You gotta be out your GOT DANG mind, $21+tax+tip for a single double rough dinner combo???!!!! Let’s not get this confused. Macs is a good FAST FOOD joint. And with fast food comes the inconsistency in quality. Sometimes it can be bland, not fresh, or even cold. But hey, that’s fast food ya know? But there ain’t no way in hell I’m risking $25+ on a fast food meal. I walked in, saw the new prices and walked right the heck out. Todays a sad day man, macs has been around forever but this is the wrong direction to go in.

I will not be revisiting. Prices went WAY up. 50 bucks for something that used to be 30. Really disappointing. It’s a good burger but 12 dollars good???? I might as well eat at Olive Garden for this price.

I showed up at 3:50pm today but waited over 10 mins at the carhop lanes and didn’t even get called on after pressing the button. I witnessed about 6 cars making it through the drive through just fine and other people being served so I’m just not sure what the issue was as other people were getting called on even as they got there. Pretty disappointing visiting from out of state and not even being able to try the local food. Customer service would’ve been understandable if they got on and told me they were busy but they didn’t even do that.

Super friendly staff and awesome food. I have not had steak fingers and gravy in about 10 years since living in Texas. They were cooked perfectly and the white gravy was extremely tasty. Not only that I had some time to kill because my car was getting the windows tinted.. I asked if I could hang out for about 20 minutes and the lady I asked was so nice, she told me of course. Very clean restaurant, great food and wonderful staff. I can see why this place stays so busy. I will definitely be back. A+ in every way..

Food is good. My family and I would drive all way across town just to get some steak fingers and tacos. But unfortunately we will not be going anymore. The prices went WAY up. I mean I know everything has gone up, but 4 tacos for $12 when they used to be $8! Outrageous, especially since those tacos are similar to the del taco tacos at Del Taco. It's not like street tacos that have steak, it's just hamburger meat. And the taquito tusum went from $5 to $8. And that's just 2 taquitos with potato and hamburger meat with maybe 2 TBS of guacamole. $8 🤯 Just not worth it anymore, unfortunately.

PAY CASH if you go here - saw cashier put my credit card through the machine with a slip of paper alongside it, and two days later lo and behold some fraudulent charges from Japan showed up on my account. not worth the hassle for the questionable novelty of Country Fried Steak In A Box. service was painfully slow too, and prices are wild.

If I could give this place no stars I would. When I went around 5pm there was definitely a crowd but not what I would call packed and it took around 20 minutes JUST TO TAKE MY ORDER and another Hour and a half to get my food that I had to get out of my car and go knock on the door for just to find out it's been sitting there waiting for who knows how long and by this time already cold. The only reason I even stayed and dealt with this is because my wife is pregnant and was craving Macs. But hey if you like bad service, cold food and having to pick up your order in a place that's car side go for it!!! On top of all that it was $39 for 2 people for a fish sandwich that was cold and not as pictured AT ALL and a cold burger with a soggy bun. Save you time and money

Had not been to a Macs in years. Stopped by Menaul location this evening (12/11/23). The prices on the online menu are not even close to actual cost. Two examples, original steak in the rough, online $8.99. Actual cost $12.99. Taquita tusum: online $4.29. Actual cost $7.49. Food was good, but I won’t be back. Staff was friendly as well.

11-6-18. This was probably the best experience I've had at a Mac's ever! Wow, the manager (Martin N?)was awesome! Service was great. The restaurant was clean and despite a bit of a line, the order came out fast. If you eat inside, have someone get a seat while you order because this place gets busy and you might end up eating in your car. The green chile cheese burger is sooo good! You can sub more fries or an extra roll for your slaw. Just saying.

Food was warm and got more than expected. A very long wait but worth it. (1 year ago) Returned today, tried burger for the first time and was good, had a minor service quality issue, staff is very friendly, but i recieved a large fries 1/4 full, notified staff and the girl kindly agreed portion was unfair. Employee then notified cook and quickly returned with a half full bag of fries. Must be trying to save money, and understandable considering inflation, but its not fair to loyal customers when they get offensive portions. I love mac's and will still return.

Yummy food. Had a strawberry shortcake soo big. Also had to try their green chili gravy really good flavor and not salty. They were slammed because of lunch with a few workers but still came out hot and right.

This has been one of my favorite eateries since I was a kid! I was so disappointed in the service and food. Last week, I called at 7:03, said they could take orders over the phone because they closed in “less than an hour.” So, I drove over there, and they happened to be out of all their meat items. This Friday, called in an order at 6:50, and the accepted. Got there at 7:05, and when we buzzed in, they mentioned they were out of everything again, but had our order. Got our food, and it was subpar to say the least. The gravy was like gelatin, the onion was wilted, bread stale, got nacho cheese instead of gravy on one order, and the chicken fingers tasted old. Not to mention that forgot part of my order. I’m usually not one to complain, but for what they charge, I expect better. The only positive thing was the kind gentleman who brought us our order.

I’ve been eating at Macs La Sierra on Coors & Central for over 30 years. They should not allow this place to have a similar name. The food at La Sierra is 5 star for me. Here at macs I was so disgusted. Cashier kept calling the salsa, “hot sauce.” It tasted like tomato paste. The steak fingers were so tough and nasty to taste. The wait was very long that cars started to exit the line. The prices were way too high. It was my first and last visit. I threw all my food away and was nauseous the rest of the day. Waste of time and money.

Was just turned away from this location because they were "out of steak finger"............ The name of your establishment is Macs STEAK IN THE ROUGH and you don't have the 1 single thing that your restaurant is built around? This is absolutely ridiculous. That's like calling dominos and being told "just to let you know, we are all out of pizza dough". Someone should lose their job for such a ridiculous blunder. I hadn't been to Macs in years and this experience will ensure that I don't come back for about as long.

I would have to say this place is gone down. The workers very rude. You know you pay 15 35 for a roof dinner just because it has sauce instead of gravy and they don't give you the whole thing because they didn't put the coleslaw and my other client got a regular roof dinner. Hers was about 1398 and she didn't get no coleslaw. I did not leave a tip because the lady was very rude. Didn't like her attitude so I wouldn't say it not good service. The food might have been good if it was all in there but my client didn't even want it. Then the sign says they close at 4:00 today and they start locking doors at 3:00. I do not recommend this place.. and I tried calling and they don't answer their phone because all the money that I had to pay and they don't give you all your food. What a shame...

They charge you $20 for four little steak fingers and then they don’t give you your was gravy and the employees are rude. Will never be back. Food was good but would’ve been way better with the gravy I paid for

It had been quite a while since we had Mac's, and they did not disappoint! The food was great. The young lady at the drive-up was fantastic and very humble. She thanked us for her tip, which wasn't much at all. However, she was really awesome and appreciative.

Sorry, but I just don't get it. Order of green chili fires was OK but seems small for the large I ordered. The steak fingers are just not good. They were piping hot and fresh but taste like almost nothing. I hint of pepper and that's about it. Somehow they barely even taste like steak. THEY WERE CRIMINALY UNDER SALTED. The Chile gravy I got with them was equally bland and flavorless. I don't get how 20 bucks of breaded steak can be so disappointing. Other than the pepper, IT TASTES LIKE LITERALLY NOTHING. I only ate half and gave up. Cool old place I like to support usually but the meal was awful.

Gave them a second chance today and it will not happen again! $18 dollars for three rolled steak fingers that looked like something the cat left in the litterbox but it did come with watered down gravy and cold fries. This place is soon to be another empty building in this area of town. Too bad down goes another Albuquerque Icon.

Good since I was a kid. Prices going up, just like everywhere else. Last time I went for lunch they were super fast. Usually a wait.

Just had an incredible dinner and I had to share it with ya'll! 🍽️🎉 The service was exceptional—fast, friendly, and top-notch. And the food? As a true Southerner, I know my fried food, and this place absolutely nailed it; left me craving more! If you're a fan of finger-lickin' goodness, you've got to try this place. Kudos to the amazing team for a truly delicious meal 🙌 Treat yourself to a flavor-packed feast—you won't regret it! Bon appétit! 😋✨

The atmosphere was cold, and depressing. Service was rude and pushy, and the restaurant was about 40% capacity including carhop windows. Steak in the Roughs were tough as old leather soles and were skinny but loaded up with lots of flour. French fries came out cold and two of my work mates had a few frozen fries each. Overall, a real disappointment.

The food was great but it took 40 minutes to get through the drive through. The lady taking the orders, etc., seemed to be doing her best to deal with everything but that is an inordinately long time to sit in line waiting.

We ordered their steak in the rough for lunch. It was very good. I love their fast service and friendly environment. I did not like the homeless person walking into the lobby begging for handouts.

Pretty rad place I must say. Get the rough dinner combo and you’ll be in for a treat. Also try to dip these little fingers steak strips in the salsa. You gotta ask for it though! :)

I love Macs, it is a staple of NM and so unique. The people who work there are genuine and so sweet. However, I don't know if it is understaffed or the food takes so long to make but each time I have gone the last 4 times it was nearly an hr wait. Obviously I keep coming back but it is NOT a quick experience.

  • 5/5 Caitlin C. 1 year ago on Google
Going here knowing there will be a wait in the line and for the food, the food and service were both great! 4 stars for Service only because of the long wait times, but it's for the food. So ... amazing food and employees! Prices are reasonable, between $1-$20 per person, it just depends on what you get.

This place has been around since I was just a kid and they haven't changed. There's just as good as they were back then. If you feel like eating in your car this is the place to go. Always good food.

Enjoyed our late lunch at Mac's on Menaul near Washington. Ordered Rough dinners and taquita twosomes. Everything was fresh made and was piping hot. Gravy was nice and thick and went well with the rough and fries. The coleslaw was excellent, not overwhelmingly sweet and cabbage was crunchy. Only complaint, the dinner rolls were hard. Overall, the rough dinners did not disappoint. Gotta love Mac's!

This tasted like the fast food I had as a kid. Nothing frozen and fried. The onion rings were off the chain. Hamburgers were fabulous and so were the chicken strips. I think the thing that really took me back was the strawberry sundae. If I lived in Albuquerque this would be my go to spot. I highly recommend Mac's. Just wonderful.

The food was very priced high, thinking you know paying for quality. Absolutely wrong choice. The steak finger lacked so much seasoning. I ended up one eating two after taking the breading off. The French fries were out standing and the gravy. As of the scallion. Limped and soggy when it came with good. The Cole slaw was hot and tasted sour. The roll on the other had looked like they missed it with butter, considering it was soaked up all to one end of the roll. Can't really put the thumb on this experience. But I'll gain the courage to try something else on the menu to change the rating. As far as their employees, it was cut short and told by at least 3 different people on the speaker that they'll be right with me. I would love to support local but how could you serve this type of food with your prices.

  • 5/5 Michael B. 9 months ago on Google
I've been coming here since I was a teenager, always good food whatever I order. Staff are personable and friendly. Will be coming here again and again in the future. Just wish they had a few more locations.
