Finally got my opportunity to try this place out the other day when in the area at lunchtime. Restaurants that waste little time seating you and getting good food to the table are always a keeper in my book. This certainly is the case as it pertains to Richard's Mexican Restaurant on Menaul. When I walked in, I was graciously greeted by the cashier and guided to a table by my server. Chips and salsa were complimentary and as they usually do, made for a stratifying appetizer. For lunch, I decided to try the intriguingly titled "low carb meal". Which came served with my choice of beef or chicken and a flour tortilla. Despite possessing a marginally ambiguous name. The low carb meal is essentially beef (or chicken) mixed in with scrambled eggs and topped with shredded cheese. Chopped lettuce, tomatoes, and guacamole are also included on the platter and complements the heartiness of the protein jumble that sits below it. Although I felt that the portion size could have been a bit larger, Richard's nonetheless delivered. The food was good, and the service was more than satisfactory. I'm definitely eager to try out more menu items in the near future. Just be forewarned before you plan of visiting, that Richard's is only open until 3 pm.

We used to go to Richard's every Friday years ago. Fell out of the habit when a close friend died. But we went back recently and everything we had was just as delicious as we remember! No disappointments! Bean and chicken burrito plate and vegetarian tamale plate. Enough to take home for second meal.

We decided to give this restaurant a try, their signage on their window says open till 3pm we walked in the open doors at 2pm and were told to leave with a shooing motion of her hands, that they were closed, even though the lobby was full and we walked in behind 2 other people who were not told to leave. I can't even rate the food as we were not allowed to eat there. discrimination at it's finest. I can rate the attitude of the woman who turned us away after the other 2 guests were allowed in. Appalling! Rude! Took my money, my family and my appetite to Applebee's instead!!!!

The red chili has no flavor. The Carne Adovada was so salty it was almost unedible. The beans appear pressure cooked and were still a little hard. The sopapillas were excellent. The papas were very good. Service was very good.

Always amazing food! Fresh and healthier than most other Mexican restaurants. Best iced tea in town. Very friendly staff. I have been a regular for years. Especially good vegetarian options!

Love all the meatless options! The Live Music at lunch is refreshing! I had the special of the day which was Blue Corn Enchiladas with lentils and rice. Very tasty! The staff is very attentive. Really nice overall experience!

Excellent food. Green chile enchiladas were flavorful, and chile was not too hot. I love their fideo, and their salsa is exquisite. I would have rated them five stars except for two problems. The server was friendly, but was not adequately attentive to our table after our food was brought to the table. We left her a tip anyway because working during the pandemic deserves some consideration. What I would advise is that she give equal attention to all of her tables. Secondly, the basket of tostadas brought to our table had some intact tortilla chips on top, but mostly small broken pieces underneath. Otherwise, the food was fresh, flavorful and satisfying.

Absolutely phenomenal. I looked this place up on a work trip from Colorado to Phoenix, and I was absolutely Satisfied with my choice. We had the best meal in a long time. Server was amazing, food was incredible, and the atmosphere was a quiet and comfortable place. Totally unassuming, and it's far enough away from the homeless camps where you aren't hounded and bothered at all.

I disagree with a 4.3* rating, it's far too low! This restaurant is far too consistent to not be 5*. Consistently good quality food, consistently great service and a consistently clean and comfortable atmosphere ... It's been that way for the last 15 years I've been going there and is a family favorite.

Chile rellenos, sopapillas, fideo, nachos, red chile are all delicious. I have been going here for 23 years and it has been consistently great. One of my top 5 Albuquerque restaurants for NM food.

Great comfort food! The enchiladas and tacos were tasty, but the sides... I LOVE them! Fidel, posole, and calabacitas ( squash)! Located on the North side of Menaul NE and west of American Furniture.

The combination plate is my favorite, and the food is delicious. I love to add the posole as a side along with beans. I enjoy Richard's style, and the pricing is reasonable.

If your looking for authentic Mexican food this ain't it every thing from the chips to the salsa and every meal served is generic with no flavor the food is over priced and the atmosphere is a step back to the 1980,s but you do get service with a smile.

My server had a significant change of attitude when she saw our generous tip- in cash- on the table. Sorry, but I won't return for for another grumpy server experience.

I love Richards. I've been eating here since they first opened, decades ago. The food is consistently great.

My first time here. If you want to fly back in time to the early 80s, this is the restaurant. It didn’t look like a New Mexico welcome inside, pink, bright blue & turquoise all around, more of a truck stop diner on 66 with the neon lights inside. Had a soggy stuffed sopaipilla, not the best in Albuquerque but it’ll do for the afternoon.
