This VA facility consistently fails to meet minimum standards of care delivery. Administrative staff are rude and indifferent, so scheduling is difficult and frustrating. Wait times for appointments reach 6 months, making it impossible to receive timely care. While Patient Advocates are sympathetic and readily available, they have no authority and are generally ineffective, as they are ignored by other staff. The VA is truly healthcare of last resort.

USE CAUTION when dealing with Debra Beeson MD. She is not disabled veteran friendly. She is very opinionated and reflects those opinions in your medical file rather than documented medical facts and evidence. If you are scheduled an appointment with her it would be in your best interest to reschedule with another provider. She is known throughout the veteran community to write inaccurate information in medical files.

I have come here for years and have received a mixture of good and bad service. Most of the staff is pretty friendly. This facility is far more better than the VA in New Orleans though. Plenty of parking even on the side streets. Disabled accessible. I got a new staff doctor and the lack of care continues. I am in so much pain. If I had the money, I would go to another hospital for care.

Beacon Clinic, disability exam staff, & the specialist groups within this hospital have been very kind and helpful. Emergency Room & Primary care will misdiagnose & falsify police reports to have you abducted from your home if you request help with mental issues caused by seeking help at the VA, and not getting meaningful help. The room they put me in while holding me had old dry blood on the floor, bed, ceiling. They cleaned it up a while after I pointed this out, after hours of exposure. Assume everything is unclean, wash your hands. Don’t touch anything you don’t have to. The VA is designed to refuse services to save money. Veterans are not empowered in their care, they are treated like junky convicts. Advice unrelated to your physical pain will be dictated by your primary care Dr, medicine and antibiotics overprescribed for misdiagnosed conditions, and you’ll leave feeling worse than when you arrived. Like it’s a carefully orchestrated, deliberate psychological strategy to discourage you from seeking care in order to save money. You’ve probably heard that saying: “the VA approach to veteran care and benefits delay, deny, and hope you die.” BSN St*^y S. (aka Karen) showed me they can also make you feel unsafe in your own home. She contacted me at least a dozen times, in writing and by phone, to refuse to help me schedule appointments for cancer screening, mental health consultation, and chronic nerve pain connected to upper spine injuries. I have documented medical history of both issues for years in my VA records, and from private surgery. Universal healthcare would help more veterans than the VA is willing to. Until then, thank you USA for recreational drug legalization. The cannabis industry saves more veterans than the VA from suicide and chronic nerve pain every second of everyday. Legalizing p5ychad3li€s will save even more, faster. Now I live everyday hoping to leave New Mexico for Colorado, Oregon, or foreign country ASAP. But my chronic health issues prevent me from being able to. Thank you, Raymond G Murphy. Their ER will bill you for over the counter meds, too. Beware. One photo taken in Kuwait near Iraq Boarder, the other behind the scenes on the MacGruber TV show, one of Queeth’s henchmen. Thankful my chronic pain and military experience make me useful to the NM Film Industry in a Background/Extra/standin capacity.

I have never experienced such rude drs nurses, every single person at the VA hospital are rude. I literally dread when my dads there you can’t even talk or ask questions cause they get bugged that you’re alive. My dad had a stroke so he couldn’t eat and they would just put his food there, so he would go all day without eating or getting changed but get mad at us if we asked a question at first they would let us stay all day then when we would tell them our concerns all of a sudden we only had an hour! Awful 😞

I am a companion with an 83 year-old veteran she has metastatic cancer and has to receive infusion on the 6th floor all the staff including Mary Ann Rodriguez the nurse is so helpful joyful loving and caring you couldn't find a better nurse. They treat me like I am family when I'm there with my friend I feel the love they have for each and every patients that they care for everyday.

Came to the VA for behavioral health issues. I was given an appointment with a specialist, Allison, a few weeks out. After my appointment, it was concluded that I need a prescription. I was told my primary care would need to approve the prescription, but get back to me in a day or two. It has been 39 DAYS NO RESPONSE. I have left 3 voicemails with Ranse Urvan (not sure how to spell the name), RN in Behavior Health over the last month. Still no response. I will be filing a complaint with the Inspector General of the VA. Thank God this is for ADHD and not a real mental health emergency because I'd probably be dead.

This VA is an absolute disgrace. Had a shoulder surgery over a year and a half ago. Approved the surgery but not the $200 sling. Still to this day still trying to get reimbursed. Then sent me to an optometrist over 1 hour away in one direction just to find out that they didn't approve new glasses. Wanted me to pay over $150-$350+ for glasses. No thanks VA, don't got that kind of money. Will just use the ones from 5 years ago. Will be transferring out once I get thru all my current appointments that took over 4 months to get.

One experience. Maybe my opinion is jaded. But, imagine, your doctor calls you over the phone to tell you, you have cancer. The doctor says, it’s bad. They’ll see you in mid-September for an MRI. It’s still August. And, then, the doctor can’t make the time to return your call the very next day. Anyone else had this experience here? If so, who was the doctor?

I was abducted by the Albuquerque police at my primary care provider’s request and taken to the emergency room for psychiatric evaluation after I requested appointments for cancer screening and help with anxiety and depression. But that’s not what bothered me. The didn’t have chamomile tea in the emergency room either. Really would’ve helped me stay calm under the circumstances.

I just had the most horrible experience ever there! I suffer from episodic cluster headaches, and was back and forth between the er and the pharmacy 3x to find out they didn't even have medication on hand. I sat at the pharmacy for 3 hours and no one bothered to tell me this. Wish I could give zero stars. Take care of us veteran's you losers!

Pros: I was seen VERY quickly, which is wonderful, by the Triage nurse, ER provider and X-ray technician; I was even diagnosed in record time and sent home on antibiotics by a Dr. Terrence M. Callahan. the ER nurse, X-ray technician and ER provider were very friendly and open to dialogue when explaining my symptoms and ordering diagnostics. I left VERY satisfied with my visit. 5 stars all around. Cons: When I registered initially, I was treated as if my VA identification and credentials were invalid (i'm originally from Austin, TX and it was difficult for registration to find me on their system because of my first encounter with this VA); around 1850ish, a second registration personnel of hispanic descent came into the ER registration area (holding a pizza box); She inquired about my date of birth initially - I got up from my seat in the waiting area to get closer to share my personal information in an open area, but was immediately told "UH! NO, stay there! what's your date of birth!?" I gave her my information. She came back a couple of minutes later and said "Christopher! okay, our system is being weird, what's your SS#?" in front of 5 people in the waiting area. I hesitated for a second, but didn't want to make a big deal of the HIPAA violation that just occured for the second time, so I felt cornered into giving my Social Security out loud in an open area. Just to recap, I've now given 3 (first name, DOB and SS#) of my personal identifiers out loud to a group of 5 or so strangers on their phone in the ER lobby area. What if one of them could have jotted down my information? I felt like my privacy was EXTREMELY violated. I wish I could provide names, but the aforementioned registration person didn't have a badge on at the time of my encounter. Again, I just wanted to highlight the pros and cons of my recent visit and underscore the HIPAA violation that took place. I never want to feel that way ever again and I'd like that person reprimanded in some way or fashion. Thanks for taking the time to read this ER experience and know you will take action so this doesn't happen to other veterans, too.

I’ve Been seen at VA’s in El Paso, Austin, Springfield mass, west haven CT, providence RI. This VA is almost as bad as the one in Austin texas but not quite. I’ve had to fight with the physical therapy office since February to get care, I’ve had my appointments canceled and time wasted over and over again. It’s not the worst but it is easily one of the most stressful experiences I can have during the week us attending my VA appointment. I’m grateful for the care I do receive but I wish they’d just listen to me and provide the care I ask for.

My wife and I are both vets. We wanted to get the bivalent covid booster ASAP because my MIL was going to be discharged to our care after being hospitalized for covid. Neither Socorro PH or Walmart could offer an appointment earlier than two weeks. We drove up to the VA today and got the bivalent covid and flu shot with only a short wait on a Monday am. It was a simple and efficient, drive-through. Thank you workers who braved the 50 degrees and wind.

I have received the best care at this facility and cannot praise it enough! I lived in Hampton Roads, Virginia for 12 years and that facility was terrible and when I moved to ABQ in 2019 my health concerns were resolved within the first 6 months! I will continue to get care here!

Been going to the VA hospital for 40-plus years. Would have given 5 stars but no hospital is without some faults. Doctors and nurses are as good as any seeing that the number of patients they have to see on a daily basis and sometimes I'm sure, overwhelming. I recommend the Albuquerque VA hospital to any veteran. Robert E McQuarrie

I visited the ER and the regular hospital. I had a great visit each time. Even though the internet was down, they did all they could to make my visit short in the ER. The doctors and staff were really helpful and took good care for me.

Missed my appointment by 2 hours for a surgery and was laughed at and told there's nothing that can be done except make a new appointment. I have a TBI which has made my memory worse over time (13 years) something the VA already knows of, as well as issues like bleeding from the ears and nose and throwing up blood weekly. The nurse on call heard me protest this issue and how I received no reminder letter or call and was told I would be put on a list in case there's a cancelation. I called the next day and was told there is no such list and I need to call daily to see about cancelations or else wait until my new appointment day which is in 2 more months.

Rude doctors who are ignorant of basic facts pertaining to modern medicine. They refused to let caretaker stay with dementia patient thereby causing wrong meds to be administered. These people don’t care.

I never seem to get proper care here. They like passing on their responsibilities or even not keeping appointments. They even changed their location on google so they will have good reviews but they still treat their patients as less than human. Veterans are not in the military any more, stop treating them as if they are. Veterans are people too

Staff is beyond horrible. They just do their jobs and go home. They do not care for veterans nor their careers. It's just another paycheck to them! Nurse staff who always roll their eyes or have negative things to say behind the patients backs. Thwy need to realize it is a MEDICAL FACILITY not no McDonalds. Poor communication amongst staff to Dr's. Also it's funny how the staff has their own parking spots, yet use emergency room parking spots, so they can park closer! Shows you how lazy they really are and the director does nothing to run the facility. Needs new management!

Never had any real issues/concerns with this VA until I started the complicated and stressful process of seeing a neurologist, and when I finally did, the neurologist was very unprofessional and seemed like he did not want to be there. The building itself is very outdated, and parking can sometimes be a mess.

Worst VA I have used. It took 9 months to get a Pulmonology appointment (with ABQ community care, because they never follow thru on much). I am moving my VA care to South Dakota, so I (a 100% disabled vet) can get the care I need. 10 months is absolutely unacceptable. Shame on you. I asked for an appointment in September 2022, and after all the stupidity of Community care not communicating) my appointment is 27 June 😡😡😡. Also, there is a shortage of medical personnel in Albuquerque, so any appointments are usually 1-2 months out…I had major shoulder pain and it took 2 months, 2 MONTHS to see a physical therapist. By that time I was so ticked off I canceled and went to a specialist I paid out of pocket for.

I had a sling put in in November of 2021, The doctor was amazing, after the surgery you couldn't even see the incision. I've had multiple surgeries and none were as well handled as at the VA in Albuquerque. Thank you

I’ve had the unfortunate opportunity of visiting the Emergency Department on two different occasions. I have to say honestly that I’ve never felt more cared for and attend to with a sense of urgency. The providers were very thorough in their exam and I felt heard and treated with respect. I am truly impressed with the quality of care I’ve received in this department. Thank you to those who personally helped me in my time of need. You had a bigger impact then you know. Especially making my pain management a mission for you. Job well done Doctor as I’m doing much better. Thank you to the VA Emergency Department for the care I received.

They are so rude to health care professionals. They never answer when you call. They never call back when you leave messages. You get sent to supervisors and have to leave messages and they never call back either. I understand working in health care and how busy it is but not to were you cant call back. I can't even imagine how they treat our veterans if they treat health care professionals so poorly!
