Fantastic little gem, with a very rich history. Ran and cared for by national trust. Fantastic guides who had super knowledge of the house. Plenty of rooms to explore and beautiful gardens to walk around. They had a load of games for kids in the gardens, den building, and a tree fort. Has a cafe, gift shop and large car park.

This is a particularly well run National Trust site. Activities are available for children in addition to plenty for adults to enjoy too. The tea room is accessed from some stairs. It is well stocked. The staff are well trained, presentable, friendly and engaging. The gardens are extensive with woodland to wonder about in too. The house is well presented and has plenty to learn about.

The guided tour is fantastic! What a beautifully kept 17th Century home. The staff were extraordinarily passionate and welcoming, which resulted in a lovely volunteer explaining the history of the house with some additional facts that I wouldn’t have noticed otherwise. The gardens are wonderful and there are plenty of activities dotted around the garden and land for children and families to have fun too (den building, a mud kitchen, giant connect 4, etc.). There is a cafe around the back, which is a perfect place for a coffee or pit stop after viewing the house and discovering the lands. Beautiful property with a lot of history, wells worth a visit. When driving, there is a big car park however you do have to follow some narrow country roads with potholes to get to the property, so drive slowly and carefully.

A great day out. It did help that it was lovely whether when we went but the farmhouse was very interesting and it seems like we missed the guided tour of the house but one of the volunteers inside was more than happy to talk to us about the paintings and Charles II who was hiding in the house. Very interesting all in all and a great cafe! Recommend, it was great for the kids too as there was a great treehouse in the forest there 😃

Lovely little national trust venue. Separate car parking across a quiet lane. This is a very small national trust property and they are currently investing in it to make paths more accessible. Lovely bit of history attached to this house. As normal with national trust properties there is a lovely cafe which serves amazing coffee. Lovely but small grounds.

Lovely old house with a very interesting history (in the 1660s, King Charles II hided in this house while trying to escape the troops of the man who ordered the execution of his father). The surrounding gardens are very well maintained and it's a beautiful place to spend a quiet and relaxing afternoon. The tea room is small with limited choices but with enough variety to satisfy a small craving. And all the volunteers we've met were friendly and knowledgable about the house.

A small property than can easily be visited, makes a good stop off for anyone traveling north or south on the M6 near Cannock and an ideal chance to stretch your legs and learn some fascinating history from the welcoming staff and room guides. Also great for kids, there is a tree house in the grounds, a mud kitchen, an outdoor music area, plus a decent cafe for light bites and drinks.

One of the smaller NT properties and grounds but still plenty to see. The children enjoyed the games on the grass and the tree house. The gent in the kitchen was wonderful, full of knowledge and very entertaining. The only thing that let down the visit was being asked to start upstairs as a tour was just being started downstairs, fair enough we didn't mind, but before we had even finished upstairs, and bear in mind it's not the biggest house so not lots of rooms, they were ushering us out as the tour wanted to go upstairs and took presidency over us.

Very nice historic house, run by the national trust. A tenner each to get in. Everything is well looked after and when we went, there were numerous volunteers around the house explaining the different rooms and the history of how King Charles II was in hiding and on the run. I think the tree that he had hidden in is closer to Boscobel House which is nearer Wolverhampton town centre. All of the furniture inside is period correct, which is basically hand carved. The textiles are all hand made and interesting. There a load of oil paintings around the house. Finally, there is a room which highlights some of the specific historical trinkets. Loved it. The gardens are really nice. There a few games for the kids to play. There are a couple of bookshops, a cafe and tearoom. We were probably an hour all in. Didn’t have time for afternoon tea. Maybe next time.

I have wanted to come here for quiet a while and today we made it. Decorated for Christmas with evergreen. The snow was an added touch. We joined a guided tour given by Colin which was informative, interesting, entertaining and made me realise my lack of English history. Definitely will return in the summer to enjoy the knot garden and maybe learn more on their other tour. Small but nice cafe, second hand books and delightful ducks.

Moseley is a great visit, especially for kids. With plenty to keep small hands and minds occupied we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The house isn't particularly large but has some interesting stories. The cafe is nice and serves a few lighter meals & treats. They have a separate ice cream shop downstairs which we enjoyed. When we visited they had some lawn games out to play with. A small crafts activity to have a go at. The woodland adventure walk kept the kids entertained, the treehouse/fort being their favourite. A good way to spend half a day.

Moseley Old Hall is a Lovely place, its just a small site. You won't be there long. Short walk around the outlying areas including a tree house for the kids to play on. The gardens are well kept and staff are friendly. Worth a visit at least once.

Lovely day out had by all; the children really enjoyed running around the orchard, exploring the nut walk and climbing the tree house to. So lovely to see the beautiful peacock to say in a shaded tree enjoying his day.. Nicely organised one way system; plenty of space and hand sanitisers to use at your leisure. Will definitely be visiting again in the near future..

It's a lovely small place for a short visit. The staff were lovely and helpful with the kids. It is a shame the tower in the woods was shut for repairs though. They have beautiful wooded grounds, we live locally so just took the kids for a run in the sun. I personally wouldn't spend all day there as there isn't tons to do but nice for a walk.

My wife and I visited again today with our daughter after many years, first thing we noticed once parked up was the official new entrance ! We’ll it was new to us, on our last visit we just went through the wooden gate. Another fabulous visit, we took in the short forest walk and meadows this time which was nice, there’s a great, safe tree house if you have younger children (see the photo). A lovely Elizabethan farm house with a great history over King Charles II on the run. Some lovely pieces to look out for around the house. We played some old games on the lawn which was real fun and then enjoyed a hot drink. Although one of the smaller NT it still packs a punch and the staff are great.

Nice small place for a short afternoon walk. The whole place is not busy at all, and feels very safe from covid. The Forrest trail for kids to follow the small animals is simple but very well made. The farm buildings are well presented, but not accessible. The tea room is casual, not expensive, and has a small selection, but of good quality.

Gorgeous place, lovely and peaceful. Super interesting guide in the house, giving you lots of information about the house but also about some of our every day sayings came to be. Beautiful gardens and woodland to wander through, lots to do for all the family. Nice little shop as well, friendly staff. Also highly recommend the cream tea - delicious!

Had a really good few hours here today. The volunteers were very knowledgeable about the house and the history especially Mervin, I think his name was, he involved my two sons with dressing up and knowing what boys like to know about history told them all about the fighting and how the younger boys helped around the house too. Enjoyed the walks outside to especially the tree house and dens, will definitely visit in dryer weather to fully appreciate the garden and outdoor. Had a cake and a drink in the cafe, a little pricey but nice.

Fantastic place to visit full of history. This place is particularly lovely to visit when the weather is decent. There are some lovely meadows and woods with fantastic areas set aside for you to build dens, play games, or just sit and take in the amazing views. Charles II hid here while fleeing from Cromwells soldiers in 1651. The priest hole he his from and the bed he slept in are still there today. There is even a letter written by the king to Jane Lane (a lady who helped him on his journey from the house to safety) on display. The gardens are beautiful and the cafe is lovely. Drinks and food are fairly priced, and they had lots of lovely baked goods available. Parking wasn't an issue with plenty of spaces available. Be sure to talk to the guids on the way round as they are full of knowledge and stories! If you love history, or if you don't, this really is a beautiful place to visit

Nice little place with history. But visit very short. Small Garden next to the Hall. Not much to walk. I bet If you could go inside the House the visit would be much nicer.

A lovely little National Trust place. The Old Hall is very good staffed by knowledgeable, enthusiastic and approachable volunteers. A fun mud kitchen in the woods, wild meadows to walk through, a tree castle for the kids to play in and great second hand bookshop. Really nice place to visit for a couple of hours.

  • 4/5 Darren B. 1 year ago on Google
Not a large property so could be combined with other local ones. A small wait to enter, the house is operated on a guided tour but from 11am to 3.30pm it is onfree flow entry and tours at every hour by volunteers. You get to it by going down a quiet pot homed country lane then turn onto another lane with grass growing down the middle of it. Car parks a virtually next to the entrance, the property has a second hand book shop, ice cream parlour which was £2.95 for one scoop, £3.50 for two and £4.50 for three and a cafe. Toilets and dogs were allowed on site to.

Lovely property to visit on a Sunday morning. My partner and I had an excellent tour by Colin and learned some great stories about Charles II. Also a very tasty tea room with an excellent Victoria Sponge! Some beautiful woods and grounds to walk round, not the longest walk in the world but there is a friendly peacock and some less friendly bees to make the stroll worthwhile

A bit of history in this hidden gem of country side. NT staff are very helpful. Garden is well looked after and it provides an excellent play area to children. Do not miss the old oak tree outside the garden wall.

Beautiful mansion in a very quite, calm & relaxing area. It's located off the main road, therefore there's no traffic or other form of noise pollution nearby it so I would recommend to anyone who's looking for some stillness and tranquility. The gardens, woodland and the building as a whole are all very well maintained and looked after. The past/history of this place is unique and very interesting. But despite its beauty, it was not crowded or overwhelmed by the visitor's. On one hand, it's a shame because it truly deserves much more attention. On the other hang though, the positive side of this is that it cannot be one frustrating even on a relatively busy weekend or bank holiday, and places around the property can be easily accessed without excessive waiting or queuing. Recommended, including to families with small kids (there are activities even for them.)

  • 4/5 David T. 11 months ago on Google

Beautiful peaceful National Trust Location We were welcomed in the parking area by Happy Smiling personnel and again at reception. We enjoyed our walk around the woodland. We found two Geocaches ☺ our family dog enjoyed his walk too. We will return to visit the Hall. Thank you for making our visit memorable

The voluntary tour guides are all amazing and professional. They explained the history and all the details about the place comprehensively. The tree house is also fabulous to explore, especially good for kids.

Visited here for a family day out. The grounds are very attractive and we enjoyed seeing so many bees busy at work. The history was interesting, although there wasn’t too much to see. The tearoom was small and had lots of spiders over the walls, with not much seating both in side and out. The variety of food available was very limited compared to the national trust site we visited last week (Wightwick Manor) the staff in the tea room didn’t seem overly friendly although the rest of the site staff were very friendly. There was a lack of shaded seating too, the tree house in the woodland area was great to explore. Overall it was a good day, however we did prefer last weeks visit (Wightwick Manor)

  • 5/5 Gina S. 6 months ago on Google • 22 reviews
Entry was free as we'd signed up for one free entry ticket which is valid until 18th of October at any NT location for up to 2 adults and 3 kids. We had a lovely afternoon exploring, plenty for all ages to explore and do! We enjoyed walking through the meadow and woods, my partner loved climbing the tree house and finding a big daisy for our child to admire. Volunteer that we spoke to was very informative and friendly when talking about Charles II and the hall itself. Tea room was good, although not a wide selection of sandwiches were available in the fridge unfortunately. They have a good selection of savoury pastries, but I think nearly 4 pound for one sausage roll by itself is abit much. All in all a fab time was had and we would definitely visit again.

Lovely to hear the house is opening on Friday, but as always we enjoyed our visit, sun came out for us to have a picnic on the walled garden with our take away coffee. It might be helpful if they thought about opening more toilets even if only 1person/household allowed in at a time only disabled and baby change open, quite a long queue including small child who was"desperate"!

We came here via the walk from Northycote Farm; this evidently follows part of Charles Stuart's (Charles 2nd) escape route from the Battle of Worcester when he was able to hide up at Moseley Old Hall for a while. Only the gardens and shop are open but, while small, it is lovely just to wander around. We had a picnic lunch and took some of the apples, pears and quince available from the garden via the 2nd hand book shop Unfortunately the nearby busy road (motorway or dual carriageway?) was noisy which detracted from he peace of the place.

Lovely grounds and typical National Trust features. The downside is that as things stand (Covid) there's really not much for under 3s. The tree house is fine but really not suitable for smaller children as there are big drops. It's a 4 star place for families with older children and/or if the house is open.

Interesting place but currently covered in scaffolding, and you can't go upstairs in the attic due to renovations. No warning until we were on the tour itself after we had paid £10 each to go in. The tour was delivered by a very knowledgeable and engaging lady and she really made it worth it despite the other things. The coffee and cake in the tearoom were nice, and the person serving was very smily and polite.

The guided tour is one of the best that I have ever experienced and was particularly informative whilst also being light hearted. The house itself is well presented with many authentic ,original Tudor and Jacobean pieces of furniture and paintings. Unfortunately there are still some NT dinosaurs serving in the cafe, but overall the property is well worth a visit and very enjoyable.

(Translated by Google) A beautiful place for a weekend trip outside the city, wild, homely and rural. I was most delighted with the old trees in the orchard and the wonderful meadows at the back of the property. An ideal place for a picnic and rest for the whole family in nature. It is a pity that the noise coming from the nearby highway is distracting. Unfortunately, we have no influence on this.
