Although a gym, it feels more like a community of the most wonderful people you'd ever meet in your life. When first started to train at Silanoe Martial Arts around a few months ago, I was immediately hooked by the welcoming and friendly nature of everyone. Martial Arts can be really intimidating for everyone, but I felt immediately at home here. The Professors and coaches here for all the classes show extreme care for all the students, monitoring everything, and offering top notch training which has made me a better athlete and martial artist. There is an emphasis on safety and the precautions that are taken are absolutely top tier, showing care for everyone who comes in to train. The mats are cleaned more than a few times a day, and coaches/professors looking out for everyone, as well as other students helping keep everyone safe. The training itself is absolutely amazing, coaches and professors demonstrate difficult and more beginner techniques with focus on detail and movement as to not hurt yourself as well as executing technique perfectly. Not only are the instructors providing great training, but more experienced students will help anyone out with any confusion. This is what made me feel so comfortable and keeps me coming back everyday to improve. I've moved around from gym to gym, and I'm beyond glad to have come here and train. Professor Gino offers and provides an amazing environment for growth and progression in both martial arts and in yourself. This gym itself has offered me to feel like I'm at home, with students and instructors who are some of the most supportive and caring individuals you'd ever meet in your life. I'm glad to call this my place of training as well as my second home.

Update: We are continuously enjoying our training here. I feel that we both have grown more than any other time. My favorite part of the gym is the practice of UBUNTU. UBUNTU - I AM BECAUSE WE ARE I can only be better if (my teammate) is better ... that's the only way I can be better. Everyone is willing to help each other out, willing to be drilling dummy/partner. We are cautious of each other's injuries and figure out ways so the individual can continue training/drill/roll. My son has also been competing twice a month and medaling in every tournament. Thankful for the coaching and encouragement from all his teammates and instructors. —— I truly believe culture and environment are taught from the top down. My son and I have been training here at Silanoe Martial Arts and are excited about our transition. From my experience, I feel most gyms are categorized as competition gyms or hobbyist gyms, and often difficult to find a gym that can balance both well. We believe we have found a gym that has the ideal balance. My son wants to compete (winning Gold and Bronze in his tournament this month), while I, on the other hand, do it for cardio and well-being. Perhaps my aspirations to compete will come back again someday. I have trained at other gyms and found that while the quality may exist, the quantity of time with your professor is almost obsolete. What I mean by that is, at most gyms, the professors are not as accessible or willing to give their time unless it's your trial class. However, Professors at Silanoe are eager to sit around to chat with you, coach your tournaments, review your matches, and be available when you are stuck in a move and looking for an answer to the problem. More often than not, I have the professors suggesting an alternative to an action I had done incorrectly before I even asked. The team and the members of the gym are immediately welcoming of all members. What I appreciate the most is that everyone fist bumps and greets each other and introduces themselves, and this practice is done daily. It helped an introverted individual like me to become quickly acquainted with everyone. The instruction combines traditional, modern, pressure, and mobility types of game are taught, including different types of guards, which I appreciate. I believe Silanoe Martial Arts has both quality instruction and genuine care for the well-being of the students. My son often comes home telling me how much he is thankful for the professors and his teammates, and it is pleasing to see him have genuine care and love for his team.

Just started jiujitsu a few weeks ago. I was a bit hesitant to join. I've never done any type of martial arts and felt intimidated coming in with no prior experience. Professor Gino is very professional and takes the time to help out each of his students. I would definitely recommend this place if you're considering trying out jiujitsu.

Currently, I have been training for over 10 years of Jiu Jitsu now. After training different Martial Arts, I have found Jiu Jitsu to be one of the most fun and effective arts of all. I was training at a different Jiu Jitsu academy when a friend recommended me to Professor Gino Silanoe. I am glad that I decided to tryout. and currently train under him. His curriculum is outstanding and it resulted in me reaching multiple podium medals! I learn everyday. Professor Gino is passionate about all Martial Arts may it be Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai or other forms of Self Defense. It is great to see kids at the facility as well. I wish I started training at a younger age myself! The facility is clean and well kept, the mats are of high quality and there is ample private parking. Also, very important is that everyone is welcoming and friendly, willing to teach and assist anyone and everyone. As a medical professional, I am not able to train as often as I would like to, but every time I can I am there. Silanoe Martial Arts truly feels like my second home!

No matter what your goals are in doing martial arts-- who your training partners are and where you train matters. The program and community that Professor Gino has created is truly one of a kind. It's an incredible atmosphere and I feel safe every time I step onto the mats. You'll get clear, precise, and engaging instruction from Professor Gino. No matter what your goals are he can tailor to it. Professor Gino takes great care in who trains at the gym and what ends up happening is just a bunch of awesome people training together and learning from each other. Most importantly: finding a supportive, vibrant, and fun ladies community in martial arts can be very difficult, so when I stepped into Silanoe and it already had this support system it really made me feel welcomed. Coach Jessica leads the Women's Only class and she does it with the utmost passion and care that is inspiring. Definitely come by and do a trial class! See you on the mats :)

I have tried a few BJJ gyms at this point and what makes Silanoe stand out to me is that Professor Gino really helps you to develop your own personal game. I feel like most big Gyms give you a basic rundown of BJJ but leave it to you to sink or swim. Professor Gino on the other hand is a great communicator when it comes to where and how you should improve your BJJ style. As for the gym environment itself everyone is really accepting and respectful! I’ve made some lifelong friends here and I couldn’t be happier at any other gym.

I've have been training brazilian jiu jitsu at Silanoe for a little over a year now and it's been amazing. Not only is Professor Gino an amazing teacher who is good at explaining concepts and techniques, but is also attentive to his students and caters to each of our needs. Along with him, is Professor Paul who has a very different style that I can also add to my arsenal. Between the two of them and many amazing teammates who have taken the time and effort to teach me, I got gold at my first competition! Silanoe also has an amazing community of students, all of whom are friendly and supportive. I'm glad I joined this academy because I've made some great friends. We hang out, we eat, we train, we support each other inside and outside of the academy, and there's not much more I can ask for. I also do some muay thai with both coach John and coach Priscilla. I like having different coaches so I can learn different mindsets and techniques, allowing me to diversify my game. I do not plan to compete there, but both coaches are more than willing to train you until you're ready. I've loved my time at Silanoe and cannot recommend it enough to everyone else.

I've been taking classes at Silanoe for about 3-4 months now, mostly jiu jitsu but also a handful of muay thai classes here and there. As a beginner, woman, and out of shape thanks to a year+ of quarantine, starting martial arts can be really scary and intimidating. I checked out a couple bjj gyms in the area but ultimately chose Silanoe because of the welcoming and supportive environment Professor Gino fosters. You can tell they take safety and cleanliness super seriously. Mats are cleaned and disinfected multiple times a day. The instructor is always walking around making sure everyone is performing the technique correctly and with control. He even reminds us every day to buy/wear a mouth guard because teeth are important! This is also one of the few martial arts schools I've seen even attempt to take covid precautions, which was a major factor when I was deciding on a school. Instruction is top-notch and classes are always geared towards the level of the students present that day. Even when the classes get crowded, there always seems to be a ton of personal attention. Prof Gino has a real skill in breaking down complicated techniques into easy to understand steps. Bonus points, there's also other ladies to train with and ladies-only classes on Fridays! :)

If you're looking for a top-notch gym to hone your skills in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai, look no further than the training center in San Gabriel. The instructors and student body are incredibly welcoming and always willing to lend a helping hand. They are dedicated to ensuring that each individual receives the proper instruction and guidance to improve their technique and personalize their martial arts style. If you're in the area, I highly recommend giving this gym a try - you won't be disappointed!

I was in town visiting a friend and wanted to get some training in. I dropped into a Saturday morning class, during technique Professor Gino showed us a few different options on how to finish the knee cut pass when someone has the quarter guard, and finishing a cross collar choke when you can’t get the pass. He provided great details that I’ll definitely incorporate into my game. I’m very grateful to have contacted Silanoe Martial Arts, Professor Gino was great, the rolls were fun, the training partners were friendly. I’ll definitely visit again if I’m in the area!

I've been attending Silanoe Martial Arts for approximately a year now and I've had nothing but great experiences here. I've previously come from a Judo background but due to my original dojo closing during the pandemic, it led me pick up BJJ and starting at various other dojos. This dojo has become my home away from home, great people, great training, and great location and facility. One of the biggest reasons for sticking to Silanoe Martial Arts has been the fact that they offer both casual BJJ practice with fundamentals classes and advance competition classes where I've been allowed to utilize my existing judo experience on the mat. I've found that in many other BJJ locations there has either been a lack of space or unwillingness to allow for too much standing takedowns while at practice and that has not been the case at Silanoe Martial Arts. The community has been welcoming and supportive allowing me to both learn and showcase my previous experiences. As I've seen dojos of various mat sizes over the years Silanoe Martial Arts has 2 large mat areas allowing plenty of space for sparing without the concern of overcrowding. The mats are in great shape and well maintained. I personally like tatami textured mats, but the new secondary training area uses smooth mats as well. With Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) classes basically every day I've been able to attend when I can no matter what my schedule may be.

In town for a wedding and had 8 hrs to kill after dropping my bf off for groomsman duties, so naturally I had to find a BJJ gym. ;P I emailed Silanoe on Thursday about dropping in and received a response from Anna within an hour! Came to the dojo for their 11am Sat class and was amazed there were MORE women than men in the class - this is prob the 2nd time in my 3 yrs of training that I’ve seen this. The ladies here were SO friendly and SO tough! Loved the dynamic here, which was compounded by Professor Gino’s instruction. Warm ups that make sense (think guard retention drills, build ups for the actual move of the day, etc), technique (today’s technique was a single leg takedown to the back), then situational and regular rolls. 10/10 would love to train here again and if I ever move down to SoCal, this would be my home gym

I had a great experience at Silanoe Martial Arts. As a visitor I was welcomed with open arms. It was a great facility, with top notch instruction from Professor Gino. I will be dropping by whenever I am in the area in the future.

I initially picked Silanoe due to location. My son has been going here for over a year. I have noticed my child’s confidence improve and he truly enjoys going here. The instructors work very well with the kids and are very patient. My son was able to attend a class in Irvine that his cousin trains at and when I went, it makes me appreciate the instructors at Silanoe so much more. No disrespect to the other gym but I know my son would not be happy there. A kid was accidentally poked in the eye and the teacher at the Irvine gym told the kid to get back up and said you’re not a baby. They yelled and said some demeaning things like a military boot camp. They then paired my son (white belt 3 stripes) with their student (grey/white belt) and my son somewhat dominated. After the class my son said that he won because he knows more and how he likes his teacher and gym better. I can’t recommend this place enough. Try one class and see for yourself. Gym is very clean. Everyone is very nice and plenty of parking in the back.

I’m hoping this review will help with your decision for yourself and for your kids. I’ve (M, 44) been training BJJ for about 12 years. My kids (M, 15. F, 15. M, 11) have been training for 7 and 5 years respectively. We’ve been at Silanoe for almost 3 years now and couldn’t be happier. Time is finite and as a parent, I invest my kids’ time very carefully. At SMA, under professor Gino, I know they will grow mentally and physically when compared to other activities. At SMA, it’s chess, it’s trial and error, it’s problem solving, and it’s social as we interact with our training partners. Culture is huge as we parents want a safe environment for our kids to try, fail, and succeed and that’s here at Silanoe. Come take a trial class, talk to the parents, talk to professor, he’s always there (this isn’t an absentee owner business). As an adult, whether you’re new or experienced, you won’t regret coming here. The first step onto the mat is the most axioms and we’ve all been there that first day. There’s something to be said for the diversity of the adult program in this academy. Bodies, all shapes and sizes, men and women, ages ranging from 18 to 50+, competition minded or self improvement. Come do some trial classes. Come by and say hi and try it out
