Our room no. 17 was very modern and comfortable. However the performance of the shower was very poor. One second the water was cold and the next boiling hot and the pressure of the water very low.

Umtali is a lovely site, just before you enter Aliwal_North. The premises are beautifully clean and staff very friendly. What would improve my rating would be bar fridges in the room and an updated bathroom with specific attention to the shower setup which includes the shower head and the shower curtain. We were very thankful to have air-condtioning in the room and lovely beds.

On booking.com it shows SOLD OUT but when I reach there n call d number on entrance I got d room. But d point is why these Guest Houses still register with booking.com n don't follow protocols. Cz they have to give discounts.

This place is renovating its rooms. Its so beautiful and affordable. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.

What a lovely stay! Friendly arrival, the dinner was tasty and HOT and our room was lovely and comfortable - the aircon was a lifesaver. Would return in a heartbeat.

The stay was better than I expected after the hard and hot day driving. Dinner was prepared to my instructions and liking and was delicious. Breakfast was a good and well thought collection of sossage and other well complementary dishes. This is now my favorite overnight stop in Aliwal Noord.

Unfortunately the photos on the website did not reflect when We stopped there ready to book into a newly renovated room, upon seeing the room which hasn’t been touched since forever, I had to leave. Totally not up to standard and would not recommend. Don’t be fooled!

Got a good reception from the owner. Place was clean and comfortable. It would be ideal to have a microwave in the rooms.

Thys makes you feel welcome. Rooms clean and up to date. In these Covid times they do offer dinner and or breakfast but you need to prearrange this. I'll be very happy to visit again if ever in Aliwal North again in the future.

Great stop between Johannesburg and East London. One of a few places that has large family rooms for families with three children. Owner always remembers you from previous years. Restaurant serves delicious meals, although it is pricy. Beautiful landscaped surrounds with large trees, really relaxing after a long day's drive to hear wind whispering between leaves.

Umtali is atleast one of the place I always prefer to stay at when I'm in Aliwal North however most of the rooms need to be renovated and upgraded. No airconditioner fridge and there is no microwave in the room to warm your food when you arrived late. and the kitchen is closed. There are no sopas, lotion and shower caps in the bathroom in case a guest has forgotten his or hers at home. The management and owners if they could look at also improving the TVs, they are far from bed and they are small. The staff is nice and welcoming and they remember frequent guests.

Was a great experience. Service was on a 100% level. Breakfast pack that was created was worth it and tasted amazing.

A really well run sweet little hotel. Built in the 60’s it is like stepping back in time. They do have newly renovated modern rooms. It’s absolutely charming. I highly recommend it.
