Breathtaking Spot. Well maintained place with good options for peddle boat , kayaking, also for speed boat and Bigger boat . Good snacks and tea / coffee options are available in the food plaza alongside the dam site. The upper deck of the bigger boat which takes you through the waters of Mettupetty Dam is amazing and mesmerizing. Please note during lunch hours 1pm to 2pm speed boats are not available. Worth a visit and enjoy a boat ride on a weekday. Parking & Restrooms facilities are also available.

Absolutely a beautiful place to hang on with family, friends, lover or girlfriends. The reservoir has converted in a vast and beautiful lake, it looks totally natural with a green look of water because of the trees surrounding the whole lake . This a really scenic and panaromic beauty. Where some family or friends gatherings would be amazing to organise. There are boats also that can be enjoyed with some certain charge. But yes, never litter on such places because it will destroy the beauty that is attracting us. 👍

Mattupetty dam is one of the main tourist attractions in Munnar. We can cover Mattupetty dam and Kundala dam on the way to Munnar top station as these are on the same route. Boating is available and they are charging Rs.300 for pedal boating. The main purpose of the dam is to conserve water for hydro electricity. There are some small tea shops, chocolate shops, gift shops etc. Parking space is available. We can also see beautiful tea plantations on the way to Mattupetty dam.

The surroundings are beautiful to explore. You can get down at any of the spots surrounding the areas for a short visit. Near the dam entrance they provide paddle boat ride. There is nothing very special about this place. It has the beauty of Munnar like all other places over there. Boating could add value to the trip. But we couldn't try it due to tile limitation. A drive to the Top station is a must for Munnar visitors. You could enjoy his place during that drive.

Such a beautiful place and gift of nature. And we were fortunate to see the dam in its real beauty as it was just opened because of the heavy rain and increase of the water level in dam. Its was a very good feast for eyes. And came back with many nice pictures in our mind as well as the camera.

Mattupetty Dam is a storage concrete gravity dam... The dam was constructed under the Pallivasal Hydro-electric project in the late 1940s, for the purpose of water conservation and power generation... Now the dam is a vital source of electricity generation in Munnar and also a heaven for many wild animals and birds due to its constant water availability... The most attractive part of Mattupetty dam is its still water which reflects the tea garden around... You can engage yourself with water sport activities like speed boating organized by district Tourism Promotion Council of Idukki (Munnar) and enjoy the pretty natural surroundings of this beautiful dam... Adventure lovers also have options here like trekking in the Shola forest.

This is just an amazing view to see with our eyes. First of all we don't even have to buy any tickets for seeing this amazing dam, the road is over the dam, while travelling you can see both side , One side is the dam gate and the other is just an amazing valley ( lake surrounded by mountains). While day time, the water is just amazing to see, the lights are reflected so nicely and the area is just amazing. I would recommend you to park your vehicle nearby and walk over the road to get the best experience, they do have a boat service. Once you cross the road, you can get a small path which leads to an amazing near-view of the dam gate which is mostly open all the time. But you should be careful while walking through there as the area may be slippery. Apparently there is a stair to below , unfortunately for our safety it's not open for visitors. I would recommend you to go here while visiting Munnar. This dam is located in between the way you go to the eco point. Thank You.

An amazing view point. People walk on the dam side which is a bridge. This is kind of risky because of the number of vehicles passing on the bridge. Lot of small shops selling cold drinks and food are available here.

Scenic location, lots of entertainment facilities including pedal boating, power boats and water scooters. Small shopping center which has an entry fee for vehicles adjoins the Dam. Wash Room is needed for visitors. After crossing the Dam one can go to Fun World located a little ahead on the road to Echo Point.

Very good. Must visit 👍 The dam looks like a beautiful lake. You can enjoy a 15-minute long motor-boat ride in the lake, or just shoot memorable pics along its banks. I first visited this lake in 2005. Now in June 2023, I feel that the water was more pristine in 2005 than what it is now. Maybe something has changed, or maybe it was a different season when I visited for the first time. I don't remember the exact date of the first visit. But anyway, it is still a good place to go.

11 km ride from Munnar, Mattupetty Dam is one of the oldest tourist spots. Have vivid memories of visiting this place 21 years ago and trying the speed jet boat. The steps that lead down are completely broken without a hand railing for support. Lot of improvement required.

Mattupetty Dam is major attraction near Munnar. It offers various boating activities. It will closed by 5 to 6 pm based on sunlight and water level. Very scenic place and surrounded by green forest and trees. Go for pedal boat and enjoy the beauty of nature. Do not carry snacks as there are monkey's are roaming freely. A nice small attraction. Views are really beautiful. You can do boating or enjoy speedboat. There are 15-20 shops selling local chocolate, spices and handicrafts. You can spend a good 1 hour here and take some stunning photos.

Mattupetty gravity dam built by concrete and opened on 1953 which located near Munnar. The purpose of dam is mainly producing hydroelectric energy. Now it became a tourist destination point. Tourists can enjoy water ride by two seated boat with moderate rate of ticket. There also experience of shooting by air guns available at the bank of dam. Usually seeing there windy and serene atmosphere.

Tucked away amidst the rolling hills of Munnar; around 13km from the heart of the hill station, Mattupetty Dam is one of the most striking tourist attractions in Kerala! A storage concrete gravity dam built for the production of hydroelectricity, this water reservoir is also among the largest in the entire country. Nestled amidst lush and evergreen locales, Mattupetty Dam also serves an ideal home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. On a visit to this striking dam in Kerala, visitors can encounter exotic avifauna species; if luck favours, visitors can also spot the massive elephants meandering around this water reservoir. The rugged and exhilarating settings of the Mattupetty Dam also offers enthralling options like trekking, speed boating, motor boating, and several other adventurous activities around the dam.

Beautiful aura. Beautiful nature is visible around the place. Totally commercial with jet skiing and shops selling paraphernalia around the dam but the water and area around is beautiful.

Mattupetty Dam is surrounded by natural beauty in the form of tall Hills, green forests and tea gardens. Water entertainment includes Paddle and Power Boats, and Water Scooters. Small Market adjoins the Dam where various fancy items and snacks and fast food are available.

Another attraction in Munnar. There's some view points and water rides nearby. The shutters were closed during the visit. It's hard to get a good photo from here if there's too much crowd or heavy traffic. There are some small shops to get snacks and drinks. Parking 🅿️ is mostly done on the road sides. And there's one huge parking at the entry of the dam.

Mattupetty Dam: A Picturesque Destination in the Western Ghats Located in the picturesque Western Ghats of India, Mattupetty Dam is a must-visit destination for any traveler to Kerala. During my recent visit to the area, I was fortunate enough to spend an afternoon at this stunning location, and it was an unforgettable experience. One of the first things I noticed about Mattupetty Dam was the breathtaking natural beauty that surrounded it. The dam is set against a stunning backdrop of lush green hills, and the cool, clear waters of the lake provided a soothing respite from the hot Indian sun. The dam itself is an impressive feat of engineering, with a length of 1,700 meters and a height of 170 meters. It was built in the 1940s to provide water for the surrounding towns and villages, and it remains an important source of irrigation to this day. One of the highlights of my visit to Mattupetty Dam was taking a leisurely boat ride on the tranquil waters of the lake. The boat ride allowed me to soak in the natural beauty of the area and provided a unique perspective on the dam and surrounding landscape. The cool breeze that swept over the lake was refreshing and invigorating, and I felt completely at peace surrounded by such stunning natural beauty. Another highlight of my visit was the opportunity to see some of the local wildlife up close. The surrounding hills are home to a variety of flora and fauna, and I was lucky enough to spot some deer and wild goats grazing on the hillsides. For those looking to learn more about the history and significance of the dam, there is also a small museum on site that provides an informative overview of the dam's construction and the important role it plays in the region. Overall, my visit to Mattupetty Dam was a truly memorable experience that allowed me to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of the Western Ghats. Whether you're interested in engineering, history, or simply looking for a peaceful retreat in the midst of stunning natural beauty, Mattupetty Dam is a destination not to be missed.Nice place. Boating can be done here.

It's basically a dam where people gather to take photos. It's just after the photo point and will take somewhere around 30-40min from Munnar town. At the beginning of the dam a lot of eateries are available and also at the end few shops are available. I will recommend not to take photos in the beginning of the dam since the view is not that great. Just walk down 70% and on the left side you will find a valley view. Take photos there and you will get a good picture. I have attached samples also

It's a nice place for a short visit. There is a ₹10 entry fee around the boating place and nothing to see. If you walk another 5 to 7 minutes further you can walk by the water with beautiful views.

Title: Scenic Beauty and Serenity at Mattupetty Dam! Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review: My visit to Mattupetty Dam in Munnar was a delightful experience that left me mesmerized by its scenic beauty and tranquil surroundings. I would rate it four stars for its natural charm and the serenity it offers. Mattupetty Dam is located amidst the picturesque landscapes of Munnar, offering stunning views of the surrounding hills and the vast reservoir. The sight of the clear blue waters against the backdrop of lush greenery is truly captivating. It's a perfect spot for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts to capture the beauty of Munnar. The dam itself is well-maintained and offers a pleasant walk along its length. Walking along the dam and feeling the gentle breeze on my face was a refreshing experience. The peaceful ambiance and the sound of the water flowing added to the overall serenity of the place. Boating on the reservoir is a popular activity at Mattupetty Dam. I took a boat ride and enjoyed the peaceful cruise, taking in the panoramic views of the surrounding hills. It's a great way to get closer to nature and appreciate the vastness of the reservoir. However, I would suggest checking the availability of boating in advance, as it can get crowded during peak tourist seasons. There are also some scenic trails and viewpoints near the dam, offering panoramic vistas of the tea gardens and mountains. Exploring these trails and enjoying the breathtaking views was a highlight of my visit. It's a paradise for nature enthusiasts and hikers. One aspect that could be improved is the availability of facilities and amenities. There are limited food and refreshment options near the dam, so it's advisable to carry water and snacks. Additionally, the restroom facilities could be better maintained. Overall, Mattupetty Dam is a beautiful destination that showcases the natural splendor of Munnar. Its scenic beauty, peaceful ambiance, and opportunities for boating and hiking make it a worthwhile visit. While some improvements in facilities would enhance the experience, it remains a must-visit spot for those seeking tranquility and stunning views in Munnar. I would highly recommend a visit, and I rate it four stars for its natural charm and serene atmosphere.

The views are a bit blocked by the safety gates, many people roaming around and many stalls organized around. There is no proper place from where you can sit, relax and enjoy the view. Also the dam itself is not open for visiting. Still a lovely place to see.

Must visit place if you are in Munnar but till boat boarding road is too bad to reach especially when it’s raining. It should be built and maintained properly. Else very scenic point.

The dam is located 11 km from Munnar, offering a picturesque setting with a lake surrounded by lush green forests. While a speed boat ride on this lake is highly enjoyable, it comes with a steep cost of Rs. 750 per person. Various other adventure activities are also available, providing a beautiful view of the water body and mountains together. Boating on the upside of the dam is a delightful experience, with options for paddle boating available. The place is worth visiting, and nearby attractions like Echo Point add to the overall charm of the area.
