Akshayavat is a sacred fig tree as per Hindu mythology. The meaning of its name is ‘indestructible banyan tree’. It is believed that Ram, Lakshman, and Sita rested under this tree. The tree is at present situated in the Patalpuri Temple complex around Allahabad Fort. One must pay a visit to this sacred place to get a better idea of the religious and mythological essence of Allahabad. Winter months from October to March are the best to visit the Allahabad Fort. The temperature ranges between 4 degrees celsius – 15 degrees celsius. Avoid visiting Allahabad in summers as the summers are generally dry and it would become a bit difficult for you to do sightseeing during this time.

    (Translated by Google) This is a good place to visit near the Sangam, but tourists and others have to take care not to be fooled by the priests residing inside the temple, the statues of God and Goddesses in the Patalpuri temple are as old as the fort, But the Akshayavat (banyan tree) is not the original one which is located there, the original Akshayavat is inside the fort and is protected by the government.

Akshay Vat is the very ancient hindu temple situated near the triveni,Sangam of prayagraj. Lots of cave type structures have been built in this temple called as "Patalpuri Temple" in which so many statues of God-goddess are established. Thousands of people visit here daily. Entire temple is under the protection of indian army. It's a small part of allahabaad fort. Very peaceful place with great historical facts. I've visited here many times as living in prayagraj. If you're coming here, must do visit here surely. Thank you.

A Pre-historical tree to see , standing since Vedic ages...! Amazing to see the very old Banyan tree standing since thousands of year , covering starting from Satyug via Treta yug and Dwaper yog to Kaliyug till now. The saying is whomsoever see this tree , will get his/her wish full filled.

यह प्राचीन अक्षय वट का वृक्ष है This is the historical Akbar's fort which was used during the war. But at present it is run by the Government of India. There are ancient sights inside it. Along with many ancient idols, the place where Maharani Jodha used to take bath and worship etc. is also present in this fort.

Beautiful place to worship... Edward Balfour identifies a banyan tree mentioned in Ramayana with the tree at Prayag. Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita are said to have rested beneath this tree. A sacred fig tree located within the Patalpuri Temple at the Prayagraj Fort is worshipped as the Akshayavata described in ancient texts. A tree at Gaya, Bihar and another tree at Varanasi are also worshipped as the Akshayavata. The Bodhi tree is said to be a manifestation of the Akashayavat at Prayag. According to Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Buddha is said to have planted a seed of the Prayag's Akshayavata next to Mount Kailash on a mountain known as the Palace of the Medicine Buddha.

Mythological taking one circular round of this eternal tree is covering the Brahmand. Analogy is as Lord Ganesha did the circular round of Lord Shiva and Parvati when he was asked to cover the Brahmand and he said my parents are the Brahmand (Universe) for me.

This ancient banyan tree within the precincts of an old Fort is believed to be a gift from God. Many parts of this old fort are presently occupied by the army but a guarded pathway had been created by the authorities to have a glimpse or darshan of the tree and that also through a barred structure.

This tree has attracted the attention of Muslim invaders who tried in vain to burn it, but much to their astonishment, every time an attempt was made, another tree would spring up from the ashes! Lord Rama, Sita Mata and Lakshmana are said to have rested under this divine tree on the instructions of Bharadwaja Brahmarshi during their exile. Lord Rama is said to have performed jal abhishek to the Shiva Linga of Shool Tankeshwar consecrated by Lord Brahma. Interestingly, the water poured over Shool Tankeshwar runs straight into the deep roots of Akshayavata and reaches the Sangam. The invisible Saraswati River is also said to run under the Akshayavata and become a part of the Triveni Sangam.

According to Hindu scriptures, the Akshayvat tree is considered indestructible and is believed to grant salvation to those who offer prayers in its presence. This revered tree holds profound references in both the Vedas and Puranas, with even Goddess Sita said to have worshipped beneath its branches. The captivating myth surrounding the tree recounts the story of sage Markandeya, who implored Lord Narayan to reveal his divine power. In response, Narayana briefly submerged the world, leaving only the resilient Akshayavat visible above the waters, symbolizing its unmatched vitality. Interestingly, the Chinese Buddhist pilgrim Xuanzang also documented this remarkable tree in his writings.

Akshayavat Temple is an ancient temple which has been built inside the boundaries of Akbar Fort. There is a banyan tree that is famous among the locals. You can visit at no cost. There is free entry. When you visit there, the pandits ask for donations, in simple words they ask for money every time which is not good. One star less for that. But it's your choice whether you've to give or not. India has the right to freedom rule. And one star less for we can't go inside the fort. I don't know what's wrong with the tourism community that they prohibited entry. I always wanted to see the beauty inside the fort but unfortunately, I couldn't.

The literal hidden temple of PRAYAGRAJ. The Akshay at temple holds the legend of the immortal tree. It is said that the tree(Akshayvat) is on the earth from the time or SatYuga. From lord Rama, Lord Parashurama, Lord Shree Lrishna, And even Pandavas has visited this tree and took some rest below it. If you got lucky enough, you would witness the whole story from the pujari (priest) of the temples. Caution: They try to forcefully make you do the donation at every other statues of lord shiva, Shanidev and all other devas and things that holds the very important signifinac in the Hinduism.

Akshayavat is holy place for Hindu. The Padma Purana states that those who venerate the Akshayavat with devotion are freed from sins. It is inside the Akbar fort. According to regional tradition, the emperor Jahangir cut the Akshayavata to its roots and hammered a red-hot iron cauldron on its stump so that it doesn't grow again. However, within a year, the tree began to grow again.

Akshaya means, the one that has no kshaya, the end. Vat means Banyan tree. When pralaya happens and all the lokas are integrated back inside the God. The God, the sole one remaining takes firm of an infant and lies down on a leaf from this Banyan tree. That how great is the tree. Peace and happiness envelope you as you do parikrama of the tree. Try it.
