If you love scrutinising the relics of ancient India, then Kalinjar Fort is a must-visit destination for you. The beauty of this marvellous fort lies in its structural formation and hence, you can also savour the beauty of inscriptions, caves, temples and palaces, which are all built within its walls. Apart from its history, you can also explore its green surroundings spread all across the Vindhya Range.

Amazing fort with glorious history. Must see places Neelkantheshwar mandir, Mrig Dhara, Koti tirth, Sita sej. Entire fort is Accessible via road. Entry fee 25 Rs. Need at least two days if you want to visit each and every place on this fort. No hotels to stay nearby. One has to stay in Banda or Chitrakoot. There is only one restaurant nearby called paryatak dhaba.

It's a really awesome place. You can feel the past there, you should definitely visit this palace. The structure is mostly demolished but still there are some really really beautiful attractions. And don't forget to visit the Neelkanth Temple just 500 meters from the fort.

Beautiful place. Especially the temple of neelkanth mahadev. There are several other structures to explore. The view from atop is on different level. Must visit for monument enthusiasts. Current entry charges are 25rs per person and there's a steep hill climb to reach on top. Worth spending whole day

Kalinjar fort museum is now under the safe hands of Archeological Survey of India. It was the castle of King Amaan Singh but it is now became museum of Kalinjar fort. There are many statues of ancient times, some of them are in good condition but many of them are fragmented. History tells us that many invaders tried to capture this fort and in the battle they destroyed the sculptures and monuments. You can go here to view the golden history of India.

Kalinjar (Hindi: कालिंजर) is a fortress-city in Bundelkhand, in Banda District of Uttar Pradesh, in India. It was ruled by several dynasties including the Guptas, the Vardhana Dynasty, the Chandelas, Solankis of Rewa, Mughal and the Marathas. The fortress has several temples dating back to the Gupta dynasty of the 3rd–5th centuries. It is strategically located on an isolated rocky hill at the end of the Vindhya Range, overlooking the plains of Bundelkhand. This fort is controlled by Madhya pradesh government. Kalinjar finds its mention in ancient Hindu mythological texts. According to Hindu legends, it is said that after the Samudra manthan, when God Shiva consumed poison that turned his throat blue, he came to Kalinjar and defeated the kaal i.e. achieved victory over death. This is the reason why Shiva temple at Kalinjar is called Neelkanth (blue-throated). Since then, the hill has been considered a holy site. Kalinjar has also been mentioned in Buddhist literature, particularly in the travelogues of Buddha. The Chedi dynasty ruled here during the time of Gautama Buddha (563–480 BC). Following this, it was absorbed into the Maurya Empire and came to be known as Vindhya-Atavi.[4] The fort eventually came under the rule of the Shunga dynasty and the Pandu dynasty. In the Prayag Prasathi inscription of the Allahabad Pillar this region is mentioned by the name Vindhya Atavi. The Fort was in the control of the Gurjara Pratiharas, and remained until the rule of Nagabhatta II. Chandela rulers used to be their Mandalik kings. The mention of Kalinjar is found in almost every text or inscription of that time. The nearest airport is at Khajuraho, 100 km (62 mi) away but has limited connectivity. Kanpur Airport which is well connected with metropolitan cities of India is 175 km (109 mi) and 4 hours drive from Kalinjar.

Fort is said to be built in Maurya era, it is said inbetween Chandel did renovation. It is said to be one of the unconquered fort, survived attacks of intruders like gajni, ebak and Sher Shah Suri. Local talk about stories when akbar conquered it and then aurangazeb destroyed the Hindu architecture. A unique fort in itself, with an entrance from top of the hill opposite to traditional forts, has an ancient temple of lord Shiva "Shri Neel-kantheshwar", temple has a pond above it, 24X7 it keeps Shiv Linga watered. Must visit place to take a pride of ancient Indian and sanatan culture.

A hilltop fort, it gives amazing views from the top. However, I didn't find anything fancy about this place. It was a small fort and the main building was locked when I visited (no idea why it was locked). There is a temple down which is famous and people visiting here during special occasions. The fort is said to have great historic significance however as it has involved in several battles and invasions.

The fort is on the top of the hill. You have to ride very high above the mountain. It is in a small village and very few people visit this amazing site. You can get very amazing view from the fort. If you are visiting this fort remember these things: 1. Visit only by car as it it very big. 2. Many of the structures are now demolished. 3. Be careful as the road is very much slanted. 4. Tickets you can get from the asi office.

Nice monuments but ASI have not provided any facilities to the tourists and no guide is available there which is very necessary as the cite is too broad.

The beauty of this place can't be captured and told. The history of this place , you need to read a lot from ancient to modern. But i am trying this... Beautiful place historic one should be in your list ✨️ be here some time in your life. The government should promote this place and do some more work improving the facilities infra here. This place has multiple structures from different times from the past, starting from 300-400 bc to 200 years back. Including temple neelkantha.

The temple is good and have the same architecture of khajuraho temples but there are lot of monkeys so you have to keep your things safe, the statue of bhairava is very huge. You can view the whole city from the top of fort which looks very beautiful😍 Kalinjar Fort Situated on top of a hill, this fort contains a treasure house of many monuments and idols. These things reveal various aspects of history. This fort built by the Chandelas is an example of the grand architecture of the reign of  the Chandela dynasty. There are many buildings and temples inside this fort. This huge fort has grand palaces and canopies, which are finely designed and carved. The fort is believed to be the abode of the Hindu god Shiva. The fort also having  a unique temple of  Neelkanth Mahadev.

(Translated by Google) The history of this fort built by the Chandela kings and the Shiva temple built here is associated with the mythological period. When no one was ready to drink the halal poison that came out of the churning of the ocean, Mahadev Shiva himself drank this poison of poison. He kept the poison in his throat i.e. his throat, due to which his throat became blue, when he was also called Neelkanth. After this, he came to this place through the compound actions and extinguished the poison with the forest medicines here. But it is not only that mythology has been glorious. Queen Durgavati of Gondwana, who was also a unique beauty, was also born in this fort. Rani Durgavati was the daughter of Chandel Raja. He was later married to the king of Gondwana and bravely faced many wars while defending his kingdom, and as a result of that heroism, today his name is immortal in history. If we talk about the present, then this fort is becoming anonymous today due to lack of tourists. Strategically important in this fort, even today, the tourism department has adopted an indifferent attitude and termed it as second. While this fort boasts a glorious history of its time, if the basic facilities are available in this fort, then after the publicity, there will be a huge movement of tourists. Kalinjar (Hindi: कालिंजर) is a fortress-city in the Bundelkhand region of central India. Kalinjar is located in Banda District of Uttar Pradesh state, near the temple-city and World Heritage Site of Khajuraho. The fortress is strategically located on an isolated rocky hill at the end the Vindhya Range, at an elevation of 1,203 feet (367 m) and overlooks the plains of Bundelkhand. It served several of Bundelkhand's ruling dynasties, specially by Jaiswals And Gupt dynasties including the Chandela dynasty of Rajputs , Bhar shiva in the 10th century, and the Solankis of Rewa under a purchase agreement with Akabar . The fortress contains several temples dating as far back as the Gupta dynasty of the 3rd–5th centuries.

I have been to Chitrakoot many times but have always underestimated this place. But this time due to heavy rush in Chitrakoot I decided to visit this place. To my surprise this fort is a living example of fine architecture . It is built on a very large area and since vehicles are allowed inside the fort hence I would suggest to take once. Mainly people vist this place for neelkanth mahadev which has its own folklore. But there are other places like rani mahal and painting palace. One can also find words from brahmi literature written here and there on various palace inside the fort. Overall its a must visit place and one will easily take minimum 4-5 hours to enjoy the beauty of this place

A huge , mysterious , ancient fort on a hill top , about 850 - 900 feet is situated on Banda - Naraini road , some 56 kilometers from Banda . The place can be reached by car from Banda by a motorable road.Vehicle is a must inside the fort also because various temples , mahals , ponds and structures etc. are at a quite distance from each other. The main Shiv Temple and a stone cut statue of Narsingh Avtar, an underground water body is worth visiting. It is advised to visit this place on a festival day .There is a short cut also from the back of the temple a broad staircase goes down the hill if one can walk down.It has been said that Afghan ruler Sher Shah Suri took six months to conquer this fort and died in the process.Entry is free on festival days, other wise its mere five rupees

I really enjoyed the kalinjar trip. Love the views from the fort and all the lovely clouds in the atmosphere. The architecture of the fort is also an interesting point to get excited over the trip of kalinjar.

One of the main attractions of Kalinjar is the Neelkanth Temple. It was built by Chandela ruler Paramaditya Dev. the sacred location where Lord Shiva consumed the poison that originated from the sea. Place where SHEH SHAH SURI DIED BEST TIME TO VISIT IS IN RAINY SEASON OR AFTER RAINY SEASON ( late August to late January because of Greenery in mountains).

Grand old fort enveloped in mythology and history. The fort was invincible for a long time. The central attraction is the Nilkanth Mahadev Temple which is awe inspiring! What is appalling is the condition restoration efforts and the management. The fort is a day trip from anywhere and there is hardly anything to eat other than samosas around the fort. Arrange for your transport - carry food and water and be mesmerized!

Fort is on hill top and is scattered in aprox 10sqkm, so you need you own vehicle that reach the fort ant to move around. But it's 100% worth visiting. Don't miss huge Bhairav statue. That will mesmerise you.

Great place to explore, amazing view points but better to go with a guide or learn about its history first to enjoy and explore the place better. Day well spent with family is all i can say about today.

Located in the picturesque Vindhya hill range is one of the strongest forts in India.Being famous as a place of austerities related to Lord Shiva, this place came to be known as Kalanjar or Kalinjar. Apart from pre historic tools, sculptures remains of Gupt period to the early medieval period recorded from this area. Invaded by Mahmud of Ghazni in 1023 CE, it came under the control of Mughals, Bundelas and in 1812 CE occupied by Britishers. The fortification wall is 5 metres in width and 5.7 kms in circumference. there are seven approach gates, numerous structures, temples, mosques,Palaces and water storage tanks scattered throughout the fortified area.Various sculptures ar inscriptions are kept in safe custody in Aman Singh palace which are witness of the glorious past of the fort.
