As being a Bengali girl this fort is connected with my emotions as it's our Sonar Kella the famous movie by legend Satyajit Ray. The fort became popular and get towards the world after through this movie. The fort of golden city in India which is the among few fort in the world where people still now living. The mind-blowing yellow sandstone fort gives a throwback since 17th century CE. Whenever you are in Jaisalmer definitely stay inside this fort to feel the stories and the past events.

One of the best live fort in India. It is a combination of fort and shopping. You can see a lot of shops selling clothes, souvenirs, ornaments etc etc. You can have a good view of the golden city from top of the fort. Temples and restaurants are also present here. In the street at the entrance of the fort also there are many shops. It is a must visit spot.

This is my least favorite fort that I have visited in India. To explore it, it's not relaxing at all, due to amount of people everywhere around. There are people living in the buildings immediately underneath the fort, making the narrow historical streets extremely crowded and messy. Due to the fact that all the rooms in the fort are small, you will squeeze yourself at a small place with others even to buy the tickets. After that, you will squeeze yourself with other travelers that are pushing themselves into those small rooms and out, not waiting for the visitors walking in opposite direction to finish whatever they are doing. This was extremely unpleasant for me at some places, such as stairs to the tower, that are even more narrow and really suitable for 1 person only. Still, people were still pushing themselves to go up, and those that were going down were pushing themselves to get down. So if you want to go to this kind of place, you know you also need to push yourself, otherwise you just won't get there. What I didn't understand is why nobody limits the number of visitors, or then not organizes flow of the visitors that are already at the place, especially on those very narrow passages. There were staff members that were working as security guys, I guess, but that was it. I guess that everybody in India is used to push themselves, plus this fort is small on its own, so nobody is solving it here. This whole experience made me not like this fort and I wouldn't recommend it to other people. There are other forts that are as nice and interesting, but offer much nicer experience.

800yrs old Fort And still Going Good. Lovely place to click some good pictures. I guess this is the only fort where people are living inside. Markets and food restaurants are inside the fort only. The only regret was We Civilians are not capable enough to maintain our ancient space/Forts which is identity of our Country. Because people had thrown used plastics/wrappers/bottles everywhere.

Visit to Fort is good with the help of a guide. Guide takes you to various points of interest and explains about their history and importance. Itโ€™s well kept place, with lots of stairs, narrow/ low height entrances but very good views of the city and there is Jain temple, lots of shopping & restaurants within the fort campus.

This is one of smaller forts in Rajasthan. Its situated right in middle of the city and the way there goes through a maze of small alleys which has shops, cafes and houses on both sides. The fort is small yet beautiful. There is a small museum on top which displays antique arms and items. The shops are colorful and shopping here is one of a kind experience. Best time to visit is in evening, so after watching the fort you can sit by a cafe and watch sunset from the top and later can go some night shopping while coming down.

Visited during desert festival 2023. Awesome experience with friends. Fort is near to railway station and airport, which makes it the first place to visit Jaisalmer. Holds the history of the first-century kings and their long-lasting brethren which still live there. Atop the fort claims a stunning view of the Golden city.

Probably one the most unique forts I've been to! Its like a small township lives within the fort. Ancestral houses, shops, the fort has it all. Autos go all the way up the hill, or walking is possible too. The fort is made of this beautiful yellow stone that shines in the sunlight, makes it rather unique. The view from the top was great too!

Jaisalmer Fort is one of the best I have ever seen. I have visited almost all the forts in Rajasthan, but this is the best. One day would also not be enough to fully explore this fort. It looks more beautiful at night, so if you're staying in Jaisalmer, you should visit at night.

An excellent living fort..thanks to the magnanimity of the king who gave most of the palace to the attenders of his erstwhile kingdom. The fort's massive yellow sandstone walls are a tawny lion colour during the day, fading to honey-gold as the sun sets, thereby camouflaging the fort in the yellow desert. For this reason it is also known as theย Sonar Quilaย orย Golden Fort. The kings lineage is roya so are the Grandeur of the fort. Situated on the top of hillock, you can view the whole city from the topmost point of fort. Place is clean and in the fort, very clean restrooms are there too. Further each lane is unique in its own, be it jain temple streets or the shiv temple streets. Cobbled streets, street kiosks selling cloths to antiques to paintings make it a whole new experience. Its a UNESCO heritage site Take a leisure walk around.

It's a historic fort and if you need detailed explanation hire a guide but be careful about price. There is no entrance fee. If you want to see and take pics just go without guide and see everything by your own. It's more of local shopping as around 4000 population stays on fort there shops are all the corners.

What a place... The fort has its own share of stories. A very different from all other forts. No matter how dull and colourless it seems, once you enter the premises it will mesmerize you in a very different taste.

This is a wonderful experience as it is a fort where people actually live. Filled with life, shops, and eateries, you can spend a whole day happily. We didn't use the guides and didn't feel the need for it.

As you people must be aware it is the one and only living fort in India. It's architecture is a living marvel. Wish people living in the fort take good care of it. The place is literally shabby and you don't get a good feel at many place. It will take you to a state where you fall in pity for this living beauty. There are two Canon view points from where you can get a beautiful view of the city. A museum which again has a view at the top, temples with beautiful ornate pagodas. The place is one another main touristic spot inside the fort which has a entrance fee. Make sure you walk from the entrance of the fort through all the places, witnessing the intricate work of the ancient days and the smaller streets. The people here are very polite and when you ask something, they give you entire history of the place. When a random uncle was speaking with me, he said the science behind the smaller streets, it is constructed in that way so that there is no less hot and chillness felt during the summer and winter seasons.

Unique living fort. There are many people who still live inside. Jain temples have beautiful intricate detail walls. There is a section of palace which is open, but otherwise the real charms is to roam in the small lanes. There are many view points from where city can be seen. Very nice vantage point for sunrise and sunsets.

Jaisalmer font is a stylish and elegant font inspired by the city of Jaisalmer, located in Rajasthan, India. We spent many evenings up there watching the sunset while enjoying delicious food and drinks from the hotel's restaurant. Speaking of food, the meals were absolutely delicious and the breakfast spread was particularly impressive... Palace and Jain's temple are great attractions of the place. The view of the city from the fort is beautiful, there are also hotels inside this fort, where you can stay... Such a beautiful and royal City Must be visited...

Jaisalmer Fort is amazing and extremely huge. So much so that you can easily get lost there and yet there are 3k to 4k people living there to help you navigate anywhere you get stuck. The fort is an epitome of architectural excellence especially the ancient Jain Temples within the premises of the fort. Would highly recommend exploring the fort on your own if you have time at your own pace. Don't miss the cannon view point as well

A very beautiful fort. The fort inside which people live and have their homes, small shops and its like we have gone to a whole different place not in India. There's a lot to walk and explore inside here. There are a lot of good cages too. Shopping inside is also pretty good although you'll have to bargain well. The sunset view from here is also very beautiful. This is one of the best fort for me in Rajasthan.

A lovely weekend place located around 170 kms from Hyderabad in North Karnataka. The place is closed however if you are persistent with the guard stationed there he will allow you. Ensure that you do not try stupid stunts once yiu are the location - its the very reason why this place has been closed. The officials also need to ensure that this place is not utilized as a place to consume liquor so that families can have a pleasant time.

Jaisalmer Fort is one of the magnificent fort of India. Beside palace many local families are also residing in this fort. It is like a small city itself. It is recommended to take a guide with you or else you might forget the ways in the fort. Don't miss the Palace museum inside the fort. At the parking many Auto-rickshaw drivers will going to ask you to drop you up the fort and will say it's hard to walk but a normal person can easily walk to the place without any Auto-rickshaw. There are many sunset and sunrise spots too in this fort. A lot of local handicrafts shops are also inside this fort.

History and folklore of the desert kings and their people comes to life in Jaisalmer. The fort has lost a bit of beauty because of the new extension of the houses by people who are living there. However the fort still retains its glory to a lot extent. You must take a guide to understand main points of the fort. Every nook and corner has a story. Choose your guide wisely.

A beautiful place. Don't miss the sunrise from cannon point. It's a amazing experience to witness a living fort. A great place for all shopaholics. Do visit a restaurant when you are inside the fort, prefer the one with the city view. No need to hire a guide if you have visited any rajasthani forts before.

Golden fort is World's only Living fort. Approx 2000 house and 500 restaurant here. Approx 3000 people live here Fort is made from Yellow Stone. All stone shine like gold. A walk in fort is worthful. Inside fort you should visit Jain Temple. Artiature on temple is very beautiful. Fort is captured by the locals because of these the natural beauty of the fort is lost.

The fort is a town in itself, where there are family living there, restaurants and different temples. The cost of visiting the palace in the fort is 200 rs per head for adults and personally it's not worth it. During my visit, there was restoration work in progress and many of the rooms were closed. Those that were open were OK, not so great. Rajasthan is home to many beautiful forts, if you have seen forts at Jaipur, udaipur etc. This surely can be skipped.

This is the only living fort in India, and one of the very few in the world, this fort is majestic and simply worth visiting. Around 3000 people still reside there. The best views of Jaisalmer are from the fort. I loved it. Jaisalmers are masters of carving. Fantastic work.

Jaisalmer Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an architectural marvel that transports visitors to a bygone era. The intricate carvings, narrow winding lanes, and majestic gates evoke a sense of medieval grandeur. The panoramic views of the city from its ramparts are simply breathtaking, especially during sunrise and sunset. The fort's interior reveals a vibrant marketplace and historic Jain temples, adding cultural depth to the experience. While the fort has retained its ancient charm, the growing tourism may impact its serenity. Nevertheless, Jaisalmer Fort remains a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and those seeking a glimpse into Rajasthan's rich heritage.

Also known as the Golden Fort, this seems to be a main attraction at this town. Flanked by stores and a few food stalls, itโ€™s a not so steep road leading up to the top. Shopping is an attraction here. Many temples are inside the fort which overshadowed the history of the fort. The view point at the top gives a panoramic view of the city. A guide is an integral part of the visit without whom it would just seem ordinary.

A living fort, is a different experience as compared to all other forts I have visited. Though the fort itself is not as impressive as others, a whole ecosystem exists inside the fort walls, which is quite amazing. Also being one of the oldest forts and still standing strong. A must visit place inside the fort is the Jain temple. One of the most beautiful temples I have been to.

Love the massive fort structure. But its suggested not to travel on national holidays, the fort may be closed. We went on Diwali holidays and it got closed also later we got to know it was opened till 2 o'clock that day. Anyways you can roam around the street inside the living fort. Its beautiful and shop there and remember to bargain good. You will find many artifacts, clothes, bedsheets, many more local stuffs.

Jaisalmer Fort If one wants to see the replica of the fort, which was shown in the television cartoon "Arabian nights", then Jaisalmer fort is the place to be. Counted amongst the largest forts in the world, Jaisalmer fort is the most popular landmark of Jaisalmer city. Unlike other forts of Rajasthan, Jaisalmer fort houses museum, shops, restaurants, residential accommodations, hotels, etc. The fort was built in 1156, and is a proud chattel of the Bhati clan. Rawal Jaiswal was the founder of Jaisalmer city, and Jaisalmer fort was built in his reign. It is a 250 foot tall fort, which is protected by 30 feet long walls. The fort constitutes 99 bastions, amongst these 92 were built between 1633 and 1647. One can see the fusion of Islamic and Rajput architecture. There are 4 gateways to reach this fort i.e. Ganesh Pol, Akshya Pol, Suraj Pol and Hawa Pol. Jaisalmer Fort is situated on Trikuta Hill and had been the scene of many battles. The main attractions inside the fort are: Raj Mahal (Royal palace), Jain temples and the Laxminath temple. The fort is made as per the actual Rajasthan standards and feature a city against a red-and-yellow background. The Jaisalmer Fort is one of the few living monuments in the world and home to a fourth of the city's population. The view of the sunset from this fort is a treat to the eyes for all the travellers, and especially photographers. Jaisalmer fort is popularly known as the "Sonar Kila" because it is made of yellow sandstone. The fort looks golden in the early morning when the first rays of the sun reach the ground. The Jaisalmer fort seems like a palace in the fairy tales and dominates the tinted small town of Jaisalmer.

At Night the Fort looks fantastically awesome. Interesting Fact- itโ€™s only fort in India where families still live inside almost 400 families still live inside

Jaisalmer Fort is a majestic structure located in the heat of the Thar Desert, in the westernmost part of Rajasthan. Standing on a former trade route, Jaisalmer Fort is the only inhabited fort in the world. Besides, this place seems taken out of the โ€œTales of the Arabian Nightsโ€ given its Arabic influence, clear throughout its architecture. From November to January you can take a direct flight from New Delhi to Jaisalmer, but keep in mind that this is only during the peak tourist season. Otherwise, the airport will be closed and you will have to take a flight from New Delhi to Jodhpur.

The fort just leaves you in awe..loved how the heritage is intact and the fort is beautiful inside out..its a residential fort and you can find amazing shops inside the fort..the streets are narrow and no cars are allowed inside..the beauty is in walking through those narrow streets and reaching on top to see Jaisalmer city from aboveโ€ฆthere are many places to stay inside the fort..we stayed outside the fort but next time will definable stay inside for an experience.

The fort is open to the public. I would suggest to take the guide from near the fort entrance because sometimes government verified guides are available there which take only 100 rupees for the tour of the fort and will also take your excellent pictures.

It's like a whole city lives inside the fort. It's definitely famous and i was curious to see it. It has a lots of markets inside it so you might wanna do a bit of shopping. Other than that it has a lot of interesting temples inside. You can take a guide for that reason. We did, and we learnt a whole lot of interesting facts.

It's a living fort... meaning ppl live in it. Small narrow streets.. roadside shops... houses etc. You need to walk from fort gate to up..auto allowed only before 930am. its a steep walk. Nice place to stay if you have an accommodation booked. For food choices you need to come all way down outside fort gate and walk back the steep on return. There is a palace museum inside the fort.

Genuine review by Mr.E This is Asia's only living fort where people have homes inside the fort, there is market and a museum inside the fort, where you can see and watch the old remains of the war and historical stuff. The view of the city from the fort is beautiful, there are also hotels inside this fort, where you can stay. Incredible India

The fort is nearly 900 years old and India's only living fort with a population of 5000 residents. The place itself consist of the main palace , the queens palace which are named museums, some city view spots which are excellent , a market place and restaurants and hotels.. It's a experience worth the money you are paying for.. The leather is cheap and genuine . You will also get a lot of traditional and ethnic stuff to buy in a very reasonable rate. While concluding I want to say that it's a very nice place with a great history and experience. Worth a vist. I'm even sharing some clicks which I took during the visit. Thankyou

A very different fort , as it is the only living fort (a fort where people still reside) and has hotels and restaurants inside (albeit not so nice๐Ÿ˜‚) . You can view the entire city from the top. One advice to readers : no need for a guide as he wont even give full information, better to read online about it and then visit it. It has multiple sub buildings and they aren't worth your time. Just have a look at the main king's building and roam the streets! Advice to management: try to improve the cleanliness in the streets

Fort itself is not bad. Night walk here is a must in the summer days. You need max to max 4-5 hrs to explore the entire fort, visit at around afternoon or during sunset to see the fort in its full glory. Avoid staying inside the fort in Homestay or hotels if you are claustrophobic, not used to bad smells or are expecting above average hospitality. Being a living fort its full of people and has very narrow pathways, being an old structure its not possible to upgrade its facilities.

I recently visited the Jaisalmer Fort and was thoroughly impressed by its beauty and history. As an Indian, it was incredible to see such a well-preserved example of our country's rich cultural heritage. The fort is located in the heart of the city and is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Jaisalmer. The intricate carvings and architecture of the fort are truly awe-inspiring, and the views from the top are breathtaking. I particularly enjoyed learning about the history of the fort and how it played a significant role in the region's development. It's one of the unique forts where people still live and make a living out there, appreciate their efforts in maintaining the fort and preserving its heritage.

Jaisalmer Fortย is situated in the city ofย Jaisalmer, in theย Indianย state ofย Rajasthan. It is believed to be one of the very few "living forts" in the world (such asย Carcassonne,ย France), as nearly one fourth of the old city's population still resides within the fort.[1]ย For the better part of its 860-year history, the fort was the city of Jaisalmer. The first settlements outside the fort walls, to accommodate the growing population of Jaisalmer, are said to have come up in the 17th century

One of the largest fort in India. It is the resident of almost 4000 people who are resident since construction of the fort. Inside the fort you will find market, restaurant, temple and all others which are required for our day to day life. The fort in itself is a complete small town. On passing through the small roads of the fort with guide you will enjoy the thril of old kingdom. Two Museum are there wherein you will find utensils, clothing, arms, ammunition etc of the kings era. The 7 jain temple is very nice.

Visited the Jaisalmer fort during their ASI restoration. Most portions were closed however the carvings are phenomenal. We had a guide to explain us the significance of various paintings etc displayed in the fort premises. The sun's radiance really makes the place the most unique! Very lovely place.

If you are coming by personal transportation, then you can park your vehicle just outside the fort entrance or even just after the fort entrance and walk. It has a very mild inclination. We were allowed ourselves to be duped of Rs. 300 by autorickshawallah for a mere hundred metres from the fort entrance to the centre of the fort ( the farthest point till the rickshaws can enter), which can easily be walked. In fact, walking makes the experience even better. This fort is what this city is known for. There are plenty of shops jain temples and small eateries within the fort. We stayed inside the fort by staying in Zostel Jaisalmer which is well within the centre. Do not miss the intricately carved Jain temples which are located within the Fort. It's a marvel on its own and will leave you spell bound. Definitely recommended โœ… Visited on 21-22.07.2023 Reviwed on 14.07.2023

Jaisalmer Fort is an architectural marvel that seems to have risen from the golden sands of Rajasthan. Its honey-hued sandstone walls stand tall, adorned with intricate carvings that narrate tales of bygone eras. This desert citadel, with its winding lanes and hidden treasures, transports you to a time of valor and grandeur. Watching the sunset from its ramparts is a surreal experience, painting the fort in ethereal shades of gold. A true gem of India's heritage.

Beautiful fort however cleanliness and hygiene conditions needs to be improved with tourists being more environment conscious. Garbage disposal def needs improvement in and around fort. All in all a lovely view and must visit the largest living fort!!

If one wants to see the replica of the fort, which was shown in the television cartoon "Arabian nights", then Jaisalmer fort is the place to be. Counted amongst the largest forts in the world, Jaisalmer fort is the most popular landmark of Jaisalmer city. Unlike other forts of Rajasthan, Jaisalmer fort houses museum, shops, restaurants, residential accommodations, hotels, etc.

Wonderful experience at fort. Inside the fort many families are still living. There will be many guides who can take around and explain the history. But that is not very much required. 200 per head is the entry fee for mahal. Worth visiting.

What a wonderful fort. Full of shops and houses. You can walk in the streets all day shopping, eating and clicking pictures. A number of beautiful jain temples. And the view from the cannon points are really beautiful.

Jaisalmer Fort is like stepping into a fairy tale of kings and castles. The walls are made of golden sandstone, and they tell stories of the past. Walking through the narrow streets feels like going back in time, with beautiful old buildings and historic temples at every turn. As the sun sets, the fort glows with a magical light, making it feel like a place from a storybook. Jaisalmer Fort is a place where history comes to life, leaving a lasting impression of beauty and wonder.

Awesome place , you can't take your car up there, have to do auto-rickshaw keep that in mind. Also local people will try to stop you for parking or entry charge in starting of road, completely ignore them. Just keep your car going on and park in the parking spot. There is no parking charge.

The fort is well maintained and organised. The fort came in light after the Bengali movie Sonar Kella directed by Satyajeet became huge hit at western market. Architecture is damn good and arranged. You will see the street full of joy and happiness. Local people are to cooperative. Some of the part is occupied by local residents but over all it is must visit fort with outstanding stone works

One the best fort in the country especially because it is the only Fort with the residence of over 3000 people who keep the beauty, culture and heritage of the city and Fort alive. It's an amazing experience to visit fort as well as see the lives of local people and their livelihood.

  • 5/5 Achuthan C. 3 years ago on Google
One of the unique forts in India with people living inside it. According to estimates 30-40% of the city's residents live inside it. Given this, one can take two-wheelers inside the fort without any restrictions. Hiring a local guide will add to the experience with their storytelling and historical facts. They generally charge Rs. 200 for their 1.5 hours of service. There are multiple places/points of Vantage that offer a stunning view of the city. The street vendors make authentic local cuisines at affordable prices for you to experience. Please avoid staying at the fort as written by multiple websites. Although cheap, it comes at a huge ecological price at the same time destroying the fort, one tourist at a time. I recommend staying at hotels at offer a good view of the fort!

Jaisalmer Fort is located in the city of Jaisalmer, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is believed to be one of the very few "living forts" in the world (such as Carcassonne France) as nearly one fourth of the old federal population still resides within the fort. For the better part of its 800-year history, the fort was the city of Jaisalmer. The first settlements outside the fort walls, to accommodate the growing population of Jaisalmer, are said to have come up in the 17th century

The fort of jaisalmer is considered a symbol of the valor of the Bhatis. This fort is situated in the midst of the Thar Desert, this fort was built by Maharawal Jaisal, this Fort is famous for its architecture but due to its common public, this fort is not so important.Jai Fort is the largest living fort in India. If you go to roam inside this fort, you will find houses of people, so do not waste your time. This fort looks very pleasant in the evening and feeding from outside only looks very beautiful and is also good.

The only inhabited/living/residential fort in India. The Fort is inhabited by locals. As it is a tourist place, it has shops, airbnbs, hotels, hostels, restaurants and cafes inside. One half of the fort is vegetarian being occupied by one sect of people whereas the other half is non-vegetarian. So pick the side accordingly if planning to eat at a restaurant/cafe inside the fort. The Fort is easily walkable but you can also rent a scooter/two wheeler from right outside. Avoid the Italian restaurant on the right side bang on the entry. DO NOT miss Dr. Bhang right outside the Fort (about 50mtrs on the right from the fort entrance).

Jaisalmer with its royal forts and palaces has the distinction of being the Golden city of India. One of Rajasthan's biggest tourist destinations, Jaisalmer's charm, despite the rampant commercialization lies in its massive sand castles, forts, and colorful bazaars. The city is known for the grand fort that fences the city and other tourist attractions in Jaisalmer. These include, inter alia, Jaisalmer Fort, Gadisar Lake, Patwon Ki Haveli, Sadar Bazar, and Desert National Park. Taking a city sightseeing tour is one of the most desired things to do in Jaisalmer.

So named for the yellow sandstone used in most of its buildings, the Golden City of Jaisalmer is an oasis of splendid old architecture that rises from the sand dunes of the Thar Desert. Once a strategic outpost, today the city is filled with splendid old mansions, magnificent gateways, and the massive Jaisalmer Fort-also known as the Golden Fort-a daunting 12th-century structure that rises high above the town. In addition to its palaces, temples, and fine old homes, the fortress boasts 99 bastions along with massive gates leading to its main courtyard where you'll find the seven-story-tall Maharaja's Palace. Started in the early 1500s and added to by successive rulers right up until the 19th century, the palace offers sections open to the public including areas beautifully decorated with tiles from Italy and China, and intricately carved stone doors, as well as a number of Jain temples dating from the 12th to 16th centuries, each decorated with fine marble and sandstone images, palm-leaf manuscripts, and brightly painted ceilings. Be sure to also check out the well-preserved 1,000-year-old library, Gyan Bhandar, with its many 16th-century manuscripts and antiquities

Would highly recommend to visit this place. The fort is packed with shops and vendors selling you fancy stuff. Fort also allows three wheelers and two wheelers to go up the narrow lanes. If you are visiting with group, it's better to take a guide. That will cost you around Rs 150-500 depending on you negotiation skills. It's better to support locals by buying local and hiring local guides.

absolutely stunning. Jaisalmer Fort is a magnificent fort made of golden stones on a hill that shines like gold when the sunlight falls. For this reason, it is also called Sonar Fort. If you reach Jaisalmer in the morning, then you can relax and roam around the entire Jaisalmer Fort throughout the day and leave for the Desert Safari in the evening. We had gone in a group of five people and we had taken a separate guide to visit the fort and a separate guide to Kothari Haveli. If you want, you can walk with only one guide, but you have to deal carefully by negotiating. The main thing is that if you have not seen the Jaisalmer Fort then go and see it. You will be thrilled by seeing things of heritage and hearing stories. Per person ticket is 100rs and 150rs is for camera/mobile.

Interesting and so different to the normal. Living and shopping in the fort is an experience worth having. The architecture and sandstone lacework seems impossible. There is so much not changed in hundreds of years and yet plenty of restoration happening, keeping it original and unique.

Jaisalmer fort is considered the only living fort of india as people still live and do business inside the fort. We hired a govt. registered tour guide for 200rs who provided us a detailed history of the fort furthermore from the top of the fort one can see entire city, cannon & beautiful jain temple which is also there inside the fort.

It's a quite place to go and have a good time in the evenings, no restrictions whatsoever unlike other historic places. Request to keep the place clean.

Decent palace but hate that you have guides attacking you from all sides. The people living there will try to pull you into their shops for purchasing stuff from them. Entry fee is high but you get to see only limited portions of the palace, according to the path shown by the arrows. Fabulous view from all over the palace, great stuff. Bit disappointing though in terms of them not allowing you to explore the entire place.

Only fort in India where people still resides which is itself a royal feeling. The Jaisalmer Fort is huge with marvellous cravings on it, one of my favourite forts so far. To know about the living of the people residing inside of the fort was truly an amazing experience. There are few viewpoints and several Jain temples you can visit, plus there are ample numbers of shops almost to every door from where you can buy souvenirs. The only thing I didnโ€™t like was that after seeing the visitors/tourist the guides jump on you like anything which is quite annoying.

Jaisalmer fort is awesome. The sun set from the fort looks really amazing. I loved the place. Incredible India. Take a guide always to get a good amount of idea about the fort. Guides are available in very less cost. Don't buy anything inside the fort. They will cost you a lot. Buy the stuffs from local market. You will get a better deal.

Jaiselmer fort is one of the two living forts in the world and the only one in India. A big chunk of the city's population lives in the fort and there are also bed and breakfast options available if you want to stay in the fort. There are also a lot of shops inside. Two wheelers and autos can go inside but cars have to be parked outside. It gets crowded in the afternoon but has a nice ambiance in the evening. The view from roof tops of the fort is quite nice to see the whole golden City.

Only living fort in India having 4000+ residents! History & architecture all around!! Must visit with kids for sheer opulence of Rajasthani History & Architecture. Though itโ€™s not maintained well by residents and needs to be preserved & maintained like many medieval villages of Europe, itโ€™s a good dose of history for kids with some good options for food & rest and of course shopping! Will recommend Desert Boyโ€™s cafe for good Dal Bati & sandwiches & small cafe at city view for coffee.

Jaisalmer fort is one of the few forts in the world where there is a mini city within its walls. there are a lot of old havelis and restaurants as well located within the fort. We had hired a guide who explained the history of the place as well as visits to the Jain temples located inside and the different view points. Its best to visit the fort by 8-830 in the morning as its less crowded. nice place to see overall

  • 5/5 Brijesh M. 2 years ago on Google
The fort is a must visit place for every historian that loves to learn about history and forts. Beautiful creation and a local guide who explains the entire history would be an added advantage (as you get to understand the place better - Government certified guide charges INR 100 to show and explain the entire history of the fort). I have tried to upload as many pictures as I could, but if you get to visit jaiselmer city, then the fort should be visited and India's historic culture should be explored.

The only living fort in India, and one of the very few in the world, this fort is majestic and simply gorgeous. Straight out of an Arabian Nights if I could say. The whole city is built around the fort. there are many hotels and restaurants and shops inside the fort and that allows you to spend your entire day at the fort exploring the nooks and corners of it.

Love the way they built the fort in 12th century. Mind blowing. That to at that time this place was a desert. Hats off to the construction workers in the olden days. And maintenance of the fort is also good. Inside u can get almost everything from food to handicrafts and traditional cloths.

One of the Oldest forts in India and still Well maintained by government officials, Well to see the fort from inside, an individual will have to pay Rs 200 per person. Rest part of the fort is already captured by Hotel industry. If u wanna see how Kings n queens of Rajasthan made heaven in desert, visit and see from your own eyes. The city is surrounded near fort but the beauty will attract your eyes as u reach Jaisalmer. If was 6 30 am when I reached Jaisalmer and I was really lucky to get the sunrise view, I ll upload Some pics. Imagine how kings ordered the architecture to be made to the local engineers and builder years back. One more attractive thing is the color of the walls, the entire city is made by the same stones which were used at the time of building the fort. I was amazed and felt like this Is an another world located here. Do visit the fort and if u are in budget do look from inside too.

One of the best forts in Rajasthan, stunningly golden! While it's a live-in fort and hence the entrance as well as the general area may not look clean but the views from the fort are just awesome. Some important tips for first time visitors: 1. Do take a guide so that you learn the history behind this magnificent fort and also the folklore associated with it. 2. There is parking available near the fort. 3. Do try and avoid Sundays or public holidays as it gets too crowded. 4. Go in the morning hours when it's not too hot.

Jaisalmer Fort, also known as Sonar Quila or the Golden Fort, is a masterpiece of architectural brilliance. This awe-inspiring fort stands proudly in the heart of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, and offers visitors a glimpse into the rich history of the region. The fort is very nice. It's a live fort as the descendents are living there. You can do shopping also inside the fort. However, It's best to shop outside the fort as there is much bargaining, almost 50%. So, just visit and enjoy. Apart from this, you can enjoy Sunset from the top of the fort, which is marvelous.

Jaisalmer Fort is a mesmerizing architectural gem with its golden-hued sandstone, rich history, and vibrant cultural life. The panoramic views are a highlight, but be prepared for tourist crowds. It was a very huge fort and very beautiful from outside. It was full made of golden blocks and rocks. Inside the fort it is very smeel of pitholes and drain as it is living fort . It is good but not liked fort as Amer fort and many more. A tourist will be asked and guided to go to this fort and it is good to visit and experience it.

Jaisalmer Fort is situated in the city of Jaisalmer, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is one of the very few "living forts" in the world, as nearly one fourth of the old city's population still resides within the fort. For the better part of its 860-year history, the fort was the city of Jaisalmer.
