My daughter & I went shopping for her Prom dress, after being told of a dress shop in the Royals, parking was easy & signage was good for the shops etc. From the car park to the shop, only took 1 minute.

Not many shops, nowhere to sit, because all shopping centres decided to take all the seats away due to covid... (in my opinion very silly) because the restaurant and cafe inside the centre still have seats... we needed to feed a 10 weeks old baby, I had to sit on the floor or sit in the rain... it feels the shopping centre is pushing people to cafe/restaurants or away...

Not a bad shopping centre. Only came in to browse. However, most shops seem to be closed down and abandoned. Although there are a couple that are open and are good

Bit disappointing that Debenham have left the building, and several other shops empty. Coffee shop nice but a bit cold to sit down for a coffee. Nice clean centre.

Still quite a few stores here. Parking is pretty good, as always find a spot. If you use the casino out the back, they will pay for your parking apparently.

Good little shopping mall. There is Tk Maxx, Boots, jewellery shop, a little caffe place, cards and party accessories and few other shops. Public toilets are there but there is a bit of a walk... You have parking and exit to the high street and to the bus stop.

Nice and clean Very careful about parking in this area Don't park your electric vehicle on the bay if you not charging your car otherwise you will get penalty charge notice for it

Alot of shops have closed, such a shame! It could've been so nice, but instead they rather have high taxes than a well-functioning shopping center. It could've been popular but no. A real shame

It's gone a bit downhill in recent years and is starting to become a bit of a ghost town however, there are still a few good shops in there let's hope it attracts some big names soon!

Depressing to shop in Southend High Street due to no decent shops to buy clothes. Why can't the council offer favourable business rates to quality shops to open branches in the High Street.

  • 3/5 Deborah m. 9 months ago on Google
Big gap where Debenhams used to be plus there could be a lot more effort into bustling the place up! Very dreary in my opinion few more stalks would work there’s enough space!

  • 4/5 Rowen G. 9 months ago on Google
Its getting a bit old now and needs a face lift. A few decent shops. The main shop, which was Debenhams, closed and as yet not reopened.. i used Boots chemist and Poundland for what i needed. Mostly i use shopping Mall to walk through to get to other side.

I just don't understand Southend. " It's a beautiful seaside town (recently) town that is" Which has a vast array of good quality shops, then you have the Royals with its wide open spaces and quite a lot of empty store space. which in my opinion you would have thought the council would have made more use of considering that now it is a town and it's going to attract more people and more stores would draw people in. I find it quite forlorn and depressing whenever I go in there and to be honest I try not to if it wasn't for the fact that tK-Maxx resides there I would probably give it a miss.

We all went on vacation and were inside here for shopping. Lot of shops inside and spacious. The kids had fun running around and excited.

  • 3/5 Sara P. 1 year ago on Google
Lost a lot of its attraction since Debenhams closed and Primark moved out, but still a warm dry pleasant environment

  • 4/5 Catherine R. 1 year ago on Google
Lots of variety here, one large shop is empty, but there's still plenty more. Nice coffee shop, and toilets available.

  • 4/5 Stephen F. 1 year ago on Google
Good outlets there.. .many more needed. Excellent travel cash booth.

  • 5/5 Ray W. 1 year ago on Google
Clean and spacious with plenty of parking, what shops are there they are good. Great to see security guards walking round, gives a sense of safety.

With the closure some time back of Debenhams the Royals has lost a lot of it's place at the heart of the town. Indeed the whole town centre is a sad sight, many boarded up shops and at 1pm on a Sunday the whole High Street very quiet. A slamming indictment of the appalling mismanagement of the town by successive councils. Even Basildon is more attractive a place to visit. If Primark leaves Southend, that'll be it, game over. After David Amess's long campaign to get the town city status it's a crying shame to say it currently doesn't deserve it. Look at Chelmsford, that's how to have a shopping centre and thriving city.

So much variety from poundland to tk max to free toilets.. Something for everybody unless you need a car.. If that's the case look at the a127

  • 3/5 Jan B. 1 year ago on Google
Not really a great buzz about this place compared to similar shopping malls. Primark have moved across the road and now occupy what was the old BHS store. Debenhams have gone as we know. Not bad but not great. Hence 3 stars 🌟

  • 2/5 Philip I. 9 months ago on Google
Sadly the royals since the demise of Debenham has gone down hill . Hopefully the new owners can breathe some life into it but putting some art works in empty shop windows doesn't cut it. Realistically between royals and Victoria shopping precincts one would be enough the amount of shopps there are would just about fill one precinct.

Not many shops but great if you like TKMac. Shame as venue very nice and well maintained

  • 4/5 Toyosi A. 11 months ago on Google
It's a nice building but I observed most shops are empty and only a few are occupied. They have a nice bureau de exchange in there which makes the frequent the building.

  • 4/5 Alex P. 1 year ago on Google
Kinda empty to be honest. Not much happening. Place seems to be undergoing some maintenance so maybe it'll be more active at some point

  • 4/5 Joanne L. 8 months ago on Google
It was okay, the lifts only had 1 working so being in a wheelchair was a bit awkward but it's nice to go looking around

Went to the fishing store. Great staff. Friendly and knowledgeable. Good competitive pricing.

Since the loss of Debenhams there’s not much worth visiting But good carpark with pay on exit

  • 5/5 Hellen M. 7 months ago on Google
Everything under one room, it has almost all the affordable shops one would want to, place to sip coffee and the benches to rest in the mall.

  • 5/5 Barry I. 6 months ago on Google
Nice shopping centre but would be nice to see the old Debenhams and Primark Re-Let.

  • 3/5 Jay C. 4 months ago on Google
Still shops boarded up and not in use. If tk maxx & boots moved I wouldn't go in there.

  • 1/5 Richard L. 3 months ago on Google • 13 reviews New
Sadly Southend as a whole has become a bit of a dump.. to put it into perspective the seafront is definitely posh in comparison to the high street. I guess it's just a sign of the times

  • 2/5 Jonathan G. 2 years ago on Google
Retail space needs a facelift and some better shops, overall not bad but not the best shopping experience

Really good shopping centre, so much choice of shops, and really good quality fruit and vegetables, and reasonably priced.

  • 3/5 E 2 years ago on Google
There's a tkmaxx, a coffee shop, boots and a few other shops but not much else. It is however always clean and tidy.

Good shops. Lovely Xmas decorations, enjoyable look while having a great coffee

  • 3/5 Spencer H. 2 years ago on Google
Lovely shopping centre, with great facilities. The sad part being however it has virtually no shops. There was a time, not too long ago that despite a funky new shopping centre being built at the top of the city that The Royals had the edge, but the departure of Debenhams (a store I sadly managed way back when) has ripped the soul out of the centre. The lack of stock to fill big units is so hard in the current climate, perhaps with Southend become a city, retailers will return to this once illustrious centre.

  • 3/5 Rob H. 2 years ago on Google
Unfortunately, this is a shadow of its former self. Several shops are empty. The place is handy with an attached multistorey carpark. It is located on the high street so there is ready access to the rest of the shops. However, southend is not the great shopping venue it used to be.

  • 4/5 Andrew H. 2 years ago on Google
A flying visit but seemed nice enough. Managed to completely miss the Hare shop though!

  • 1/5 Mohammed Y. 2 years ago on Google
Worse management, worse security team, no care and attention on how to improve footfall or shopping centre improvement but waste time and money on useless stuff. Shopping centre for sale again. Security team is there to scare public rather giving support and being kind. A very strange people operating here. That’s why this place is going down and down. All operators going outside one by one as this downfall may lead one day to demolishing and convert into flats rather a shopping centre. Only name is Royal but nothing like Royals inside. Royals roof does not leak,

  • 5/5 Joel R. 2 years ago on Google
Lots of choices of shops over 3 levels with access to a full high street, cinema and then the sea front. Reasonable parking rates and good transport links (Southend Central station on c2c, Victoria Station on Greater Anglia)

  • 4/5 Emma I. 2 years ago on Google
Nice little centre, few empty shops but everywhere is like that nowadays! Few little independent stalls dotted about. Parking is cheap. Only downside is toilets are down on the bottom level of the car park, bit of a walk, bit they are spotlessly clean.

  • 5/5 Paul J. 2 years ago on Google
This was a suitably named shopping mall as I saw a royal look-alike when I was there. The spitting image of Prince William was waiting outside Wilko, presumably for a Kate Middleton look-alike to emerge from her Xmas bargain hunting. No-one calls him Prince Billy, do they?

  • 4/5 James H. 2 years ago on Google
Plenty of parking and never had any issues with it being full. Reasonably priced. Lots of shops for common needs and the high street just outside for more.

  • 3/5 Cdot. 2 years ago on Google
Not many stores inside the shopping centre ( poundland, boots, tkmaxx ) a few other smaller stores but leads you easy access to the seafront.

  • 1/5 Susan B. 1 year ago on Google
Used to be very nice but like everything in southend the council seem to want to run into the ground anything that's good about southend is when private investors do it why can't the council be More like chelmsford or basildon invest in there community if I want to go shopping you have to go elsewhere it used to be alovely shopping centre before the council got to greedy with their business rates shame on them it's just full of homeless people sleeping in doorways it's unsafe at night

  • 4/5 Katie T. 1 year ago on Google
A nice little shopping centre although unless you was looking for a specific shop there is not really much of a range of shops.

  • 4/5 Cheri C. 1 year ago on Google
Great shopping mall. Contains all the facilities a mall should have. Unfortunately many shops are closed down due to the pandemic.

  • 5/5 Jonnathon O. 1 year ago on Google
Better than Lake side but less than 1% of the size. By the beach though so a much better day out.

The gallery is nice clean and well lit but the pandemic has left quite a few stores empty which doesn't give it a good vibe

  • 4/5 Lisa B. 1 year ago on Google
Still a lovely clean shopping centre, although a real shame that the old Debenham store & primark store haven't been taken over yet. 2 huge areas still closed!

  • 3/5 Heather G. 1 year ago on Google
Some good shops such as TK Max but overall not the shopping centre it used to be when Debenhams was open.

  • 2/5 Chelsea Ya b. 1 year ago on Google
Theres no where to sit, rest and wait for other people to finish shopping by TK Maxx downstairs. Its quite disappointing as this wouldve been a good review #mylegsache

  • 3/5 richard L. 1 year ago on Google
If you like greggs, KFC, macdonalds, primark, yes, then this is the place for you. Crying kids, fat women, chav type people and the occasional nice looking Essex girl. But on a lovely sunny day, you would think you were in,...... Er...... Southend!!

  • 4/5 Mark B. 1 year ago on Google
Still manages to keep the Southend shine despite major retailers closing around them! Ridiculously close to the seafront with adequate parking...lovely environment to both shop and play 😊

  • 1/5 Dan H. 1 year ago on Google
The land of the empty shop, bit like the high street really. Shopping in Southend is great advertising for Amazon. Because the first thing shoppers do when they get home is purchase what they couldn't get whilst shopping in Southend.

  • 3/5 J J. 1 year ago on Google
Shame Debenham gone it needs another store. Nice clean and bright shopping arcade.

  • 3/5 carrie p. 1 year ago on Google
We need more shops , I still enjoy going to the high street l don't want to buy everything online. SoS in general Ned's more choices.

  • 2/5 Carla P. 1 year ago on Google
I feel sentimental about the Royals but it's become run down, aged, loss of key shops, lack of options etc. It needs way more than £2million invested in it. Such a shame.

  • 4/5 Roger F. 1 year ago on Google
Not many shops hr now that Debenham has closed and Primark have moved to their big store in the High Street as have H&M. Still a few shops but it was never big enough in my opinion.

😠 The best thing is it's exit sign. Small, escalators not working, very few shops, unkept, miserable/depressed staff. Lucky the place was small otherwise we wouldn't be able to find to find shops.
