Wonderful, peaceful and mystical. You can feel the history here. Little details like the cork windows and doors were remarkable. Very glad we stopped by this place, a little out-of-the way but worth it!

(Translated by Google) An authentic convent built in the heart of the Sintra Natural Park, part of its rooms built on the same mountain, highlights its roofs and walls covered with cork to avoid humidity and the austerity of life in the convent. Worth visiting.

Wow! I loved our visit here. It was my favorite place in the Sintra area. Take the time to stop. Even though it is not one of the most advertised places, it is quiet, peaceful, beautiful, and interesting. It is fun to squeeze through the small quarters of the monks. It is quite interesting how they used cork throughout as decoration and to make it quiet. This is really a beautiful place. Five stars from me.

The simplicity of this convent is impressive amidst cork forest and cliffs. Constructed in 1560 its a haven for tranquility and reflexion in a world full of uncertainty and greed for luxury. So close to the villas and mansions of Sintra, yet a world apart

My favourite place in Portugal so far, admittedly only three days in. Incredibly atmospheric, set amongst moss covered boulders and trees in an isolated spot. It felt like a scene from a fantasy novel. Cork bark used for shutters, doors, frames, benches, boulders bulging out of walls. Remnant decorative features including a skull and Cross bones! A must visit.

We initially balked at the price of 22 euros for a family with a 10 and 13 year old, given that it is a small site, but it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip to Portugal. It's a completely unique place, unlike anywhere I have seen anywhere in the world. There are several fascinating rooms to see and the kids in particular loved exploring the complex and playing games. On an afternoon in January we had the place to ourselves, which added to the atmosphere. The entrance section was closed for repairs but this was essentially just one room and it could be seen from elsewhere anyway.

Absolutely beautiful. Steeped in history, just fascinating! We had a fantastic guide, Filipa. The forest was incredible too. Highly recommend it!

While the remains may not impress, the way how human-made elements of the complex blend with the nature definitely will. Just going through a misty forest looking for them is equal parts exciting and calming. I suggest leaving the buildings at the main courtyard, as the star of the site, for last.

Very special place to visit. You can enter the buildings which is a very informative. There were some loud constructions going on otherwise it would be 5 stars.

Site itself is quite interesting and location is scenic. Admission price is too high considering there are absolutely no explanations about what you are seeing. They provide an “online map” that we couldn’t download as the location has almost no cell phone service. Seems like there are some buildings still in construction that in the future may include more explanations of the convent.

Gorgeous. Just gorgeous. Best place to go with friends and have a picnic or relax on your own with a book in the shade of the old chapel. Would give it 10 stars if I could.

Absolutely beautiful palace, incredibly renovated (check the before/after photos on the rooms of the first floor) and very interesting history, of this pearl in the beautiful mountain of Sintra. The gardens are very well kept, and beautiful laid out. Plenty of parking spots outside the main gate. Definitely worth a visit!

Incredible historic monestary, if you like nature and architecture mixed with religion, this is the place to go. Walking through the well renovated buildings gives you a glimpse of how life went back then in this place. I'll never forget this impression.

Inserted in the Sintra natural park, the Convento dos Capuchos is a place that makes our mind start to imagine the place when it was inhabited. The gardens are something really beautiful. Like many other places in Sintra you can fell the charming.

This place is so zen. We were fortunate enough to be here on a weekday off season in October with very few visitors. The place is really magic and you feel the connection to the extremely nature connected small community of monks that lived here, tucked away in the hill side. Super minimalistic, nothing of the grandeur and posh outlook of the Catholic churches in the cities. The restoration is done with a lot of reluctancy and respect for the legacy

Incredibly quiet, atmospheric and humble hermitage dating from 1560. The site is fed by natural springs and many of the tiny rooms, cells, stairs and narrow corridors used by the Capuchin Franciscans are excavated in the rock. A really beautiful place to visit and a must see!

Convent of the Capuchos is a historical convent in Sintra. It was founded in 1560. The convent was implanted in the rocks and boulders that formed this part of the Sintra Mountains. The internal rooms are extremely small [some persons cannot even enter there]. This convent is like a small labyrinth with several entrances and exits. The main disadvantage is that I do not recommend visiting in case of bad weather (rain, fog). You can get there from the Palace of Monserrate through the forest. Some places are not accessible for disabled people. Price: 7 EUR [Adult] Time spent: 45 min Parking: available

Very interesting place, away from the main tourist routes. In place routes thought out for tourists - with lighting inside the buildings. There are parking, toilets and places for a rest. Unfortunately there was nothing to buy except the vending machine. it's a pity ... you could sit down with a good coffee and enjoy the views.

(Translated by Google) After the renovation, now with signposts and sanitary facilities that are open (that wasn't always the case before). There is no kiosk, so you have to bring provisions with you to use the picnic areas. Since the complex is quite remote, at least one drinks machine would be customer-friendly. Unsuitable for people with walking disabilities or for strollers. Overall recommendable and impressive.

It was built by Francis Cook as a summer residence. He was a textile millionaire and art collector from Britain and India was a British colony. He managed to bring 8 marble jaali windows from Jaipur and fix it here in the first floor of main atrium (central octagonal hall) as a parapet wall. Just before the entrance of the palace is the arch called Indian arch and opposite to it is the roman arch with a water tank. The Indian arch does have a sad history - it was looted from India, as a spoil of war, after the British crushed the Indians who involved in the First War of Indian Independence in 1857.

This is definitely worth a visit AND you can park right at the place, which is unusual for the Sintra parks. We spent 1.5hrs in the grounds + palace. All of the many palaces we’ve seen in Portugal are these imposing, grandiose and almost overwhelming works of art. Monserrate was a pleasantly surprising change. It’s a much smaller, romantic oasis nestled in a sprawling forest of everything from roses to succulents to exotic flowers I’ve never seen before, all shadowed by ancient trees with roots that are determined to keep them around forever, crawling over the ground. But as though to not be judged by its small size, the amount of intricate, painstaking detail packed into the palace is more than any other I’ve seen. Every inch of the walls and ceilings are carved with beautiful detail. Over the centuries among various owners, it has welcomed artists, musicians, journalists and even people fleeing the Nazis’ grip during WWII.

A must visit when in Sintra. The Palace is stunning. It blends Gothic, Arab and Indian influences. The Music Room and the Central Atrium are stunning. And the Park is great to explore with its themed gardens. We strolled through the Fern Valley onto the ruins of a Chapel, then to the Mexican Garden and finally the Rose Garden before we visited the Palace. We stopped to marvel at the great diversity of the plants and show many curiosities to our young son, such as unusual mushrooms and vegetation.

We then hiked from here to Montserrat which is only about 2 miles away but a beautiful hike through the natural park

Really interesting place to visit, I loved wondering around on my own and getting lost in its mystery. Highly recommend visiting this special place

Amazing historic site! What a great restoration effort, I could not believe how well they have preserved the buildings. Very scenic if a bit remote. There is limited parking available, fortunately.

Excellent little stop with a lot of history, signs easy to read and convent buildings are interesting, worth a stop if in area.

Unfortunately no public transport we got Uber. No traditional audio guides and their WiFi is only at the entrance and we can’t download as not enough memory on the phone. It’s a real pity. There isn’t even a paper map. So we looked without getting much information.

Unique! A peaceful, quite little place that makes you appreciate your life! Set in the middle of a shady forest, we almost missed the secret hidden entrance to the convent. Surprisingly different and worth seeing. It’s fun to discover and also a great way to avoid the masses. Big car park close by.

It is breathtaking beautiful. A beautiful and peaceful place one created for prayer meditation to honor God so unlike your everyday convent evident by the humility in which, it is evident, the friars leaved! As you walk through the facolity you are transported to a different time, a period... a way of life different than ours. It is a place i recommend people definitely visit!

Well hidden in Sintra hills, with roads leading to access looking overuled... The monastery is surprising and it always is a challenge to understand the life in such conditions. We spent two hours to see it and it is really a strange and unique place to know. Huge parking and go there by your own means preferably

A medieval cloister built into a hill. We visited it in the fog. A really special place.

If you go there in the right season (and that is winter time, when there is no one around and the moisture and the sheer quietness of the place remind you of its original purpose) you have to give it 5 stars.

👍👍 Absolutely breathtaking and spectacular views. This should definitely figure on your bucket list. We did not have time to linger and the weather was iffy unfortunately. Be careful if using a supplied GPS, ours tried to guide us up a mountain goat trail while visiting the fishing port below! Stick to...

😠 Please don’t waste your time or money. $30 for 4 people to taste half a glass of wine each. Very poor service and explanation. We tasted a €5 wine that was dismal at best. Do yourself a great favor and go somewhere else that produces respectable wine…..

👍👍 This beach is between Praia Grande and Praia das Macas. Access is easy but it is not a guarded beach. Good for surfing and one of the few beaches dogs can take during the bathing season. Depending on the years, at high tide you can almost run out of sand. Scenographically very beautiful, especially...
