If you're ever in the Alpena, Michigan area, consider the Big Bear Lodge. The motel is seventy years old, but very well maintained. Clean, quaint, and the owners are all you could ask for, kind and informative! In the lobby there are even paintings made by her! A great experience! The rooms are clean, and the beds are comfy! You're definitely going to want to make reservations as with anyplace that shines in what they do, you don't want to be taking chances that they're full up! Dining and Lake Huron within walking distance! They even have a suite, complete with a kitchenette, great for an extended stay!

Super cute little place! Very clean, the shower was phenomenal, and the owners are wonderful people. We'll definitely stay again when we're up next!

Neat and clean place. Very small, minimalist rooms, but it did the job. Blinds were a bit flimsy and the shower drain wouldn't drain, but otherwise a decent place to stay. Good location for access to restaurants and rock hunting beach.

The lodge itself was okay. The owners were very nice. The room was VERY small, but it was fine for sleeping. There was some dark, long hair on the bathroom floor when we checked in, so that kind of grossed me out. The biggest thing that turned me off was that the room smelled musty, and there seemed to be some shady activity going on at the park across the street. Two cars kept coming and going from there and meeting each other and then doing donuts and squealing their tires. My husband and I were sitting in front of the motel in the two chairs that were provided and trying to enjoy the nice weather, but that activity was quite a bit distracting. I wouldn't choose to stay there again.

This place is surprising. At first glance you look at an older building. After staying here and looking around they have done outstanding maintenance up grades with quality products. The rooms are like stepping into a different time. Male no mistake the room was very clean. Saturday morning when the parking lot emptied they went to work and completely cleaned every room plus freshened up our room as well. Very impressive. The price was very reasonable. We will be staying there the next time we are in Alpena. A true mom and pop stop. I dear you to try it. Thank you from us. Curtis and Bliss
