Stayed here for the night and have no complaints. Great location if you want to walk downtown Alpena. Employees were friendly, room was clean and comfortable, and parking was free!

The location is great! There were plenty of shops, restaurants and bars all within walking distance. The view of the river was great. We did have to have our sheets replaced when we arrived, there was dirt/hair in between layers. The pool is smaller than average and there's no hot tub or sauna. The continental breakfast was good, lots of options to choose from. Hot and cold foods, plenty of proteins, fruit and grains. Multiple drink choices too.

Our flights were canceled and we chose to stay here. I’m so happy we did! AMAZING staff! Especially the hotel manager. He immediately offered legos for my young daughter, a late check out the next day after I explained our flight changes, as well as pizza! Yes he purchased some for his staff and offered my family and I some too! I highly recommend this hotel. Service, amenities with a great workout room, pool, and lobby!

The room was clean but the check in was kind of hectic. Our room wasn’t ready when we got there so we waited a little bit. The hotel has no multi rooms suites and our room did not have a bathtub. Thankfully the crib we requested was put in our room for our daughter. The breakfast was okay but do not eat the egg and cheese omelette. I forced myself to eat the bite I took but my husband put it in a napkin and threw it out. Stay away from the omelette. Not good. The cinnamon rolls were really good I thought.

Newer hotel on the Thunder Bay River, very clean, well kept and friendly, helpful staff. Nice breakfast served in the morning. Great downtown location. This is our 3rd time staying here, we will return.

Room was nice and clean as expected. Still no housekeeping due to COVID, I think they need to get over it. Pool was small, only 4.5 feet and not that warm. No hot tub.

Nice hotel right on the river. Nice close walking path by the river. Nice outside patio. Rooms are spacious. Clean facilities. The pool is small but clean and on the cooler side. The breakfast was okay...they didn't have all the things like they usually have at Holiday Inns; the cinnamon rolls were missing, there was no bacon, no oat meal and only one muffin flavor. The coffee was alright. The juices were good. The omelets were good.

Room had light-colored furnishings and was clean, spacious, and quiet. Helpful, polite, friendly receptionist. A hand-written welcome sign greeted us and there was a racially inclusive, ‘We’re here to help you feel comfortable’, sign by Holiday Inn Express. Sunrise made a colorful sky seen through big windows in the breakfast room.

Four of us stayed here 10 days ago and it was wonderful. Excellent location; right on the water and easy walk to downtown. Both rooms were clean and comfortable and very good breakfast service. Highly recommend.

What an awful experience we had this past weekend. Several of the rooms were not ready for the wedding party guests and several of the wedding attendees did not receive their room at all and ended up either sleeping in their cars or piling into someone else's room. The worst part is that the hotel staff/management/owners showed no remorse for their oversights and simply blamed "cleaning staffing issues" for the failure. We also observed three other guests being denied their hotel reservations around 11:00p this past Saturday. The look on those poor guest's faces were heartbreaking. As far as cleanliness of the hotel grounds itself....very unkempt and unclean. Likely due to more "cleaning staff issues". But what made me disinterested in their excuse was that the front desk staff were doing nothing to pick up the slack and clean up the lobby area, or call someone to unclog both lobby bathrooms. If you're wondering why I am commenting on the condition of the lobby, its because we spent hours in it, waiting for our rooms. Think twice before trusting your travel plans to this place.

This hotel is the nicest hotel in Alpena. Right on the river with easy access to a boardwalk that takes you around an island. Close to downtown with a ton of dining options within walking distance. A decent gym on site and delicious breakfast

Absolutely the best check-in experience of my life. The attendant was hilarious and friendly and quick. She started with a joke and instantly disarmed me and literally left me wanting to be her best friend. The rooms are clean, very large, and did I mention VERY CLEAN?!!! Love the coffee pot and that it uses pods, love the lotions and soaps in the bathroom, love the lighting, love the location. Nothing bad to say. This makes the Hampton Inns I’ve been staying in for weeks look like the Super 8.

Clean and comfortable king suite with modern fixtures and utilities. Bed was cozy and the hotel breakfast was delicious with different selections each morning! (Always an egg, meat and extra hot breakfast choice, pancakes, cinnamon rolls, cereal, yogurt, fruit etc). Location is right along Thunder Bay River within walking distance of the Maritime History Museum (walking path along the river!) and multiple restaurants downtown. Great location and facility, overall satisfied with our stay.

Great Hotel. It’s modern, clean, well cared for. Right on the river with a river walk out back. Right in town, 4 minute walk to the city shops. Very close to Thunder Bay, 10 minute walk. Service was excellent. Breakfast was delicious all three days in a row. We had 5 in our room and had plenty of space even with the couch pulled out, to enjoy the room.

We recently stayed at this Holiday Inn Express. It was decently clean and there was a pretty good breakfast selection. However, there were 4 of us and we decided to spend the extra money to get the suite. What a joke! The room was one of the smallest rooms we've ever stayed in. There was 1 dresser (3 small, shallow drawers) and 1 tiny closet for all of our things. 1 desk chair to sit on and the loveseat. We asked what the difference was between a standard and suite and the employee goes "oh, just a couple more feet in space. Nothing else". I'm guessing the room was about 200sq feet . Nowhere to sit, nowhere to eat and it felt so cramped we didn't even want to spend any time in there. Just save some money if you're deciding on a suite and get a standard room. The pool is TINY and the room smelled heavily of chlorine. So, if you are looking for somewhere that has absolutely no frills, no space and is overpriced then this is the hotel for you!
