Was initially charming but very much over priced and added things to the bill. Confrontational until proved wrong and we had to really and not let this spoil a once in a lifetime event. Lovely house. Shame not to be trusted. My name was not used for the booking as I was under the wedding party. I just wish the guests and bride were not treated in such a boisterous way and frankly bullied when querying the bill that was more than what was agreed to then have your email shown to you to prove that was the price agreed. Taking advantage of someone who has spent a lot with you and still worked very hard to earn their money is unethical and it is not clear at all that items are being charged when not previously agreed so is negligent on the business's part. I'm not one to criticize and be negative across google (you can see by my many happy reviews) but was so disappointed in someone who deceives people when you put your trust in them for their fairytale day. There was a made up story of your identity that you were a celebrity. Bizarre. You have a wonderful property and everything apart from trying to charm the backside off of someone to think you're being helpful when you actually doing it as a service without the guest being aware that you will charge the bride and groom for it . An over insistent but friendly persuasion to have extra drinks without explaining prices is a perfect example. Disputing how many guests ate and confusing the party so the bride thought it was right but then looked into the items and it didnt add up. Just a warning to anyone who thinks he is charming, it was a rouse to have your pants down. Again, a beautiful building and kept immaculate so a real shame. Stunning cat too but maybe keep it off the guests beds.

Lovely immaculate house, with a large garden space (although not enclosed for dogs) We were greeted warmly by the neighbour Ian who was very accommodating and friendly. We met Jane who was also lovely and came and introduced herself, and welcomed us with a bottle of wine. Pete (the owner) initially was friendly and seemed like he couldn't do enough for us. However after a couple of days this friendliness changed into invading our privacy. Pete would turn up unannounced with one of his visits peering through the kitchen windows whilst we were in our pjs asking if we wanted our bins taken up, initially we thought this was being friendly, but these strange events continued.... Whilst in the garden sunbathing he came rushing in as he thought the children were left unoccupied in the hot tub (11 year olds, who were sitting in there sensibly). Whilst talking to us, one of the children turned the jets on, he then told them off for pushing buttons. The following day he walked into the garden and asked for a screwdriver, which we couldn't find. But we felt he wanted to walk into the house to look for it himself whilst checking out the property. On another occasion when we were using the bbq he came out to use the fridge thats next to it, and asked us how long we were going to be as he wanted to use the bbq himself. Which made us feel that we were imposing on them and we were in the way. On one of the afternoons whilst we were sunbathing (vary rare with the UK weather 😆) the children were also in the hot tub, he started striming the garden. He did ask beforehand, I did mention would it be ok once we retire into the house. After 10 minutes I kindly asked if he could refrain until later in the evening as one of the children was suffering from and hayfever, and quite frankly it wasn't relaxing 🙈. He abruptly told me had to do it that day as someone was taking photos of the garden. He came back a bit later whilst we were still enjoying the summer sun, I felt this should be arranged after we checked out. The day before we were leaving he asked if we were going to use the hot tub as he wanted to empty it, we said yes. On the day we were checking out he emptied the hot tub just after 7am, sadly the children were going to use it one last time before we left. Whilst emptying it one of the elder children was kneeling up on the wicker garden furniture in the conservatory watching, he waved his finger at her and told her to sit down and made her feel uncomfortable to the point she was crying. Then proceded to tell one of the adults that she was jumping up and down on the furniture.(She is 11) and I can tell you she wasn't jumping up and down. Unfortunately one of the adults broke one the clips on the cover of the hot tub. Accidents do sometimes happen, of course we offered to pay but he was abrupt in saying I expect you to contribute, even though one of the clips was already broken from previous customers. We paid over 4k for one week, I did feel he was a bit tight charging us for a pack of 8 clips (checked out cost online), when it was already faulty. I do feel as he previously lived in this property and rented it out as an B&B, this new adventure with renting out the whole cottage maybe he finds it really hard to let go. I can understand this, but this attitude infringed on our privacy and made us feel comfortable. Over a weekend with many guests I feel this would go unnoticed and would be perceived as being friendly. There is many good reviews, maybe we caught him on a bad week. Sadly we wouldn't recommend as accommodation and service come hand in hand.

We stayed here for our friends wedding back in May. Wonderful place to get married 💕 we had a beautiful room. Breakfast was delicious. Pete and Jane the hosts and their family did a fantastic job looking after us all. We also came home with a beautiful puppy 🐶

Beautiful property owned by beautiful people. Was here as a guest of a wedding and felt like family by the time we left. Pete and Jane did an phenomenal job hosting and making sure nothing was left in thought of.

We booked out Groomes the night before my wedding. The place is lovely and has such quiet serene grounds. Pete (the owner) is such a character and we very much enjoyed his company. He made everyone feel welcome and had some of the guests in stitches. We had dinner in the evening which was lovely, and breakfast in the morning was handled well considering everyone was eating at different times between hair and makeup and generally running around like headless chickens. Would definitely come back! Thanks again for a great stay.

Amazing Owners, Spacious, Beautiful Views, Very Accommodating - I recently attended a wedding at Groomes and have to say I am thoroughly impressed with the attention to detail and the professionalism of all the staff and owners! If you are having a wedding and looking at a place where you can safely entertain 50-80 people then you will not be disappointed here! One of the Owners (Pete) was on hand throughout the day ensuring everything was perfect and running on time. I cannot fault this place and will recommend for years to come! Thank you for making my best friends day a dream come true and for being so kind and attentive to everyone else! Shaun (Best Man at the Wedding of Matt & Tash)

I visited Groomes recently as a makeup artist for a wedding being held here, the venue is great and the staff were very welcoming. I returned for the reception as the bride was a friend of mine, the bar staff were great and we had a wonderful night celebrating the new Mr and Mrs. I look forward to returning again in the future.

My son had his wedding here on 26 March 2016, the venue was picturesque, Pete his wife Jane and family could not be more helpful and friendly if they tried, nothing was too much trouble. Even though the weather was totally atrocious the wedding was amazing which was largely due to.their helpfulness. I can not recommended the venue and owners highly enough.

😠 Read before booking! We got married in June, 2022 here. On our initial site visit, we were told the kids room would be changed into a room for the groom to get ready in. This WASNT done & my husband had nowhere to change (unacceptable!) as we had multiple changes. On the day of the wedding he asked...
