Mixed feelings about this one. The overall quality of the store is one of the lowest among the ones I've visited. Vegetable weights (only 2 available) are outdated, the touchscreen often doesn't react to commands, which is extremely frustrating. On many occasions, 1 of them is not working at all. Cleanliness near fridges is often poor, with water (or something else, very smelly) spillages on the floor. There are big recycling containers on site, 1 for glass, 2 for Cardboard/Paper, some for clothes too. I haven't seen the plastic container for several weeks now, not sure why it's been taken away. There's often broken glass on the ground, as it looks like this area is not being cleaned that often. On the plus side, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking spaces too, as there are 2 levels. Smart Shop scanners working as they should. Good choice of vegetarian and vegan options, could be better, but can't complain.

As usual they keep moving things around and quite often promotional items do not appear on the shelves. The lower floor carpark requires attention as there are pigeons nesting and resting up in the beams and their droppings are everywhere.

Stock management is a joke. Always sold out of the same items particularly in the fruit and veg section plus low quality as well as often selling out of date items. Staff and management too busy chatting with each other.

On two occasions in the past couple of months I have been sold out of date food from this store. I bought a sandwich which was out of date and then a smoothie which was a full month out of date. The fact they are on the shelves is awful. Sad thing is that this is a local store so convenient for me, but now I have to check all dates before I buy it… something that you would expect not to be an issue. The fact there was a food product 1 month out of date means that they can’t be doing stock checks well?

Went to Sainsbury's in Alton today for some fresh veg. Overpriced, small, poor quality cauliflower . Cabbages with no centres and sprouts that are supposed to be green, not brown, green and wilted. It is criminal to charge such high prices for such poor quality.

It was okay, popping into Sainsbury's for a little grocery shopping us easy to do. The shelves are usually stocked well and there is a lot of staff around to assist if you need help.

I have never been in such a cold shop. How Saisburys expect customers to shop in those conditions I do not know the staff deserve a medal for working in those conditions, and please font blame the ghost off heating the store its always cold

Young person on the till asked me if i was in a hurry lol , Just used to my food being thrown down the conveyer belt in London at high speed than the more leisurely pace of Alton. Nice friendly supermarket and if you visit from London , slow down :p

Lots of stock-outs. Awkward car park with spaces too small. Often have to hunt for trolleys. Stupid barrier at exit to self- pay zone which is just a nuisance.

  • 1/5 David S. 10 months ago on Google
An OK sainsburys in itself, that I have not had issues with before. The new gates that don't allow exit from the self service area without your receipt are absolutely awful though. If there were anywhere near enough people on tills people wouldn't have to use self service. So your making us do the work an employee used too and then caging us. Great. Never again

The supermarket is good, but sometimes is very crowded and I spent there more than 2 hours, 2 and 19 minutes exactly. For those 19 minutes over 2 hours I paid 40 pounds parking penalty. I am not happy at all. Probably I will shopping to other supermarket in future.

  • 3/5 Alex H. 10 months ago on Google
It’s a Sainsbury’s…. Parking is a bit restrictive if you want to spend over 2 hours there, and they now have barrier gates on the self service machines on exit. You have to scan your receipt to get out which makes it difficult if you are carrying a lot of shopping

Very good, though you need to check there prices as they vary alot & you need to look at the weight etc. to make sure you get a better pricing.

I popped into my local sainsbury in Alton this morning. I looked at the Christmas decorations. I was very keen to see what the new star looked like. At first glance it looked like bunting. The assistant Sharon was extremely helpful. Great job. Sharon undid the box and opened and unfolded the star. And what a delight. Bought 3 ! So impressed

I liked that it's a big super market that has almost everything you want. It has got some gates after doing self checkout points which something I didn't like.

They've put a Starbucks inside Sainsbury's at Alton Hampshire just opened serving the usual coffee ☕ and cake 🍰 seating too so you can have a coffee and watch the world 🌍 go by.

It's been a good few years since I was in the store and the improvements I see are going in the right direction, good thinking about the future and the amount of space that is available on site couple that with a fualing station and what's not to like. Have blue badge can park nice to doors relative to going in and out thank you.

Grumpy checkout lady didn't help (rushing through shopping, no attempt to help and being very unhelpful) as I was having nectar card issues on my phone, so couldn'tuse it. Then they can't refund unless you go back round the shop working out what you should have had discounted! Not my best ever Sainbury experience!

It's all there is in our area. Stock availability is hit and miss and the store is grubby! Could definitely do with a revamp. Nectar points are what makes it worthwhile

Lots of good seasonal offers available. Lamb, ham and beef well priced. Helpful, efficient staff

Amazing attention to detail, positioning of sleeves on coffee cups was superb! Loved how they called out my name and alerted to the fact my coffee was piping hot and ready in no time at all! Thanks a lot to Lily and the team!

Not a branch I'm familiar with. Really busy at the time I visited but I managed to find everything I was looking for quite quickly. Now doing some amazing nectar card discounts.

Store is a little dated inside but car parking is easy & convenient. When we visited they didn’t have many staff on tills which caused some delays.

Fantastic. There i was driving along in the jag and suddenly the fuel light came on. Luckily sainsburys was a mere 50 yards away so decided to fill up. Got a complete tank for just under £90 and I've still got half a tank to last me until the end of the month. Will definitely be using sainsburys again

Ok for dry food, always low on fresh veg and fresh veg is of poor quality/short useby date.

A nice size shop to buy weekly groceries, friendly staff.

A good Sainsbury's with a undercover car park which means you can stay dry when it's raining and you're loading your car. The store is clean and all the shelves are stocked, a few gaps in the fresh produce section. Conveniently close to Alton's High St.

Only went to sainsburys quick to buy some mugs and bowls. But the assistant said she would look to see if they had any out the back of shop of the mugs has there was only 2 on shelf and I wanted 4. Very helpful young lady.

Nothing much you can say about a Petrol Filling Station really... Except maybe "stupid prices on fuel" but who's in control of that? A shop with basic items; food, drinks, sandwiches (if you're quick) , pleasant/jovial staff usually. Some car accessories too I think.

A wide variety, reasonable prices, but in the evening they are out of stock for some items.

The Staff at Sansbury petrol station are not that polite , I've been in there many times they can't be bothered to look at you at times when you are making a payment. It's been younger members of Staff at times, but even to older women the last time not very good. Thankyou is not a word they use. Manors cost nothing.

Extremely helpful staff! I would especially like to thank Reece from the beers wines and spirits department, for going and finding a product that was out of shelf on the shelves for me. His efforts really made my New Year’s party preparations complete! 🍾🥂🍻🤩

Why is it you buy an item or items get to like the items then they just stop selling it. Also prices are ridiculously expensive even Cucumber has gone up over 5p in a matter of weeks. Will have to start shopping elsewhere at this rate.

  • 2/5 Richard L. 1 year ago on Google
I shop here every week, but many of the items I usually buy have disappeared in the last month or so - my favourite coffee, tea bags, cereal, yoghurt, chocolate, bread ... Tesco and Waitrose have the brands in stock, and Sainsburys have them online, so why not in Sainsburys Alton? The fruit & veg quality has gone downhill too.

We have been going to this store since it opened sometime in 1990's so over 32 years, this has been the closest super store to where we live, we have seen this store in many guises over the years just waiting to see if Sainsbury finally install EV points or not but we will keep shopping at Sainsbury.....

During the fuel shortage this stores staff in the fuel station have been outstanding. Working through all the bad weather they have remained patient and cheerful, directing and marshalling the traffic and vehicles. We are very grateful for all their hard work and will remain loyal customers, grateful for all their ability to stay calm and organised throughout all this madness. 😠 Don't use the Celia's "Restaurant" unless you have very deep pockets and like rubbish food. We popped in there after visiting the Country Market Car Boot Sale (which we hadn't been to since 2021) and thought it would be great to have a Full English Breakfast like we used to have there regularly.
