I am a current member and extremely dissatisfied. I will Re-review once their issues are resolved. The facilities are fantastic but the cleanliness is not. They really need to make an investment and start using a new cleaning contract. The ladies toilets, showers and dressing tables are always dirty. The spa is not manned properly and so other members are noisy and the area can sometimes be dirty. The assistant manager, Mark, is fantastic- always says hello and has time time to listen to the feedback. The General Manager, I don’t even know her name. Very distant, has never said hello to us (and we are there five times a week). I have never seen her walk around the premises to check with what is going on. She is almost always helping in the club room. It’s a shame really. I do understand the club rooms are the big money makers for the company but the rest of the premises are not loved. For example the yoga studio floor is always filthy. Extremely disappointing and will not be redeeming my membership next year.

Update 2.0: I can confirm they have reinstated my membership and extended it to September 2023 to compensate for the inconvenience. Update: I can confirm they responded via email and reactivated my account only to tell me I have until 01/01/23 and that my renewal is £1902 😂. Mockery. I have been polite, patient and silent for far too long. My experience is as follows: I paid my platinum membership fee for 1year at the end of December 2021 approximately £1800 and have had my membership cancelled since august 1st 2022 with no full access to my membership, card never works app doesn’t work and unable to book anything since then. Reason for them cancelling: they did not read a single email I sent when I requested to cancel my delta membership in April 2022 and instead accused me of owing money. Not only this but I was charged an extra £100 when I hadn’t used the delta class that month and had already advised I wished to cancel my delta subscription. I was called multiple times regarding this and mentioned I explained on emails and previous phone calls that this was a mistake on their behalf. The team apologised and said they will resolve this matter. I then received an email from debt collectors who then realised that I was falsely accused. So not only I was accused and contacted about it, I was also ignored when I provided proof. I then attended the branch and explained to which they said I need to contact the membership team via email or phone. The problem is they do not answer their emails and almost never pick up the phone and when they do they say one thing and do absolutely nothing about it. I was then contacted once or twice to reinstate my membership to which I was unable to answer, however I had no number to call back on and received one email from the GM, Collette who explained this. I responded and have still not received a reply. I do not accept any excuse as this has gone on for 6months which is far too long for such a small matter. My membership is due to run out at the end of this month and I have basically spent almost £2000 for 6months membership and a further 6months of ignorance. When I was falsely accused of owing money, I was hounded like an animal, and now that they owe me I do not get a response, call and barely an apology. For anyone who see this, save your money and go elsewhere, I was excited to join this club due to the exclusivity but what’s the point when you’re getting robbed in daylight. The management is a joke and every member of the reception team, cafe staff and the PTs know how ridiculous the management is. Talk the talk but cannot walk the walk. The GM, duty managers, membership team need to reevaluate their job roles. Sadly this is the only way I will probably get a response. But I know full well it will just be a reply to my truthful review and then no follow up. You know who I am, you can copy and paste my name onto your emails and you’ll find how many of them have been ignored so I will not bother sending another. You have my mobile number as well. I expect a resolution by the end of this week or we’ll have to go down the legal route instead.

Feel completely ripped off. Beware to read the small print before you sign any contract with this club. Membership team don’t tell you that you must give a full months notice before you cancel even when you pay extra and join on the flexible membership. Even when we asked this at the point of being shown around. The membership team are clearly on sales commission and will do what it takes to get a sale I tried to talk to somebody to resolve but you are unable to get through by phone so any complaints procedure is all by email. It takes them days to reply, they quote this T’s and C’s, and then pass you to a debt collection company where you are then charged an extra £75 admin fee. Bitterly disappointed as my main reason for joining was rest and relaxation

I'm not one to write reviews, but hoping this might help someone. My partner and I were/are members of this gym and have decided to leave. For £200 a month per person, it's just not worth it. My partner had his car broken into while in the David Lloyd parking lot and when he brought it to their attention nothing was done to help him. More often than not something is broken, and the gym itself is only a fraction of the whole building. Although the spa area is new and nice, it is very busy and all other areas of the gym are out of date and worn. They have obviously taken on new memberships as the gym is always busy, and you have to fight to get a parking spot. My main issue comes with us trying to leave, both of us have contacted the gym several times and have quite literally heard nothing back. We stopped our direct debits, and since then have had 4 automated emails to get the payments 'back on track'. I'm hoping this will instigate some genuine contact from them. (please don't reply telling me to email support@ or something like that) All in all, I wouldn't recommend this gym it's just not worth the money and it will only take you a few scrolls through other reviews to realise this isn't a one-off event but a consistent theme of how they collectively treat customers.

Disgusted. I have been a member for 5 years at David Lloyds and actively travel the country utilising my my paid for MULTI GYM access. Upon my first visit at Cheadle I could not fathom how rudely I was greeted by the Saturday evening (date 25/02/23) front of house staff (namely WARREN - in an orange personal trainers uniform) who greeted me with disdain and made me feel like a filthy criminal. Upon my request to sign in a guest I was told spitefully how I was in the wrong since this wasn't my home club - as if to simply suggest I should turn around and drive away. Upon my obvious refusal and request to speak with his manager which he spitefully agreed to do eventually. I was fortunately handled much better by manager who resolved the matter quickly. Abhorrent. As a long standing member I am simply insulted and extremely offended. I should add as a mixed race member I felt this had a lot to do with the way I was treated. Fortunately the manager resolved the issue quickly and well with the usual expected decorum of such a high standing club. The club has been redeemed by the manager and polite friendly cafe staff. I can only suggest Warren is given further training so as to not further horribly damage the long standing excellent reputation of the clubs. Regards. Platinum member S K.

Incredible SPA, and outstanding hygiene standards. I’ve been a member for 3 months, and I can assure you that if you plan on using this club and everything it offers… it’s definitely worth every pence.

Good gym but few issues: - staff unwilling to accommodate to help you. They have a burger platter which comes with chicken wings. The wings are not on the menu separately. Nothing else on the menu was suitable so asked the staff if they could do a wings only dish, but was told no, they only come with the £25 burger platter for two people. Disgraceful paying £150 a month and staff can’t even take the initiative to provide a meal option for me. Are chicken wings a rare commodity? Having worked in hospitality myself, seems like a very simple request, particularly when you’re paying a premium. - too many kids in the outdoor pool. There is a small dedicated child’s pool attached which is barely used as kids basically own the outdoor pool when it’s sunny and proceed to be loud and boisterous for the entirety of your visit. Once again, paying £150 a month for the privilege of being surrounded by screaming children. They need to ban kids from the outdoor pool or provide dedicated swimming hours because I’m so close to cancelling my membership. It’s not fair to pay treble figures for a gym/spa membership to end up spending your time in what feels like an overpriced daycare. If there was an outdoor pool nearby, I would have cancelled already.

Not just a gym, this is a spacious private health and rackets club with by far the best pools (yes two - indoor and outdoor) in the area. The new spa is exceptional in both size and luxury, and has to be seen in person to fully appreciate it.

I Signed up for platinum membership the highest you could and used to enjoy sitting outside in jacuzzi as I had signed up for. You now can’t use it unless you are ‘diamond’ member at nearly 200£? Feel they changed the goal post. Indoor pool very dated for a gym of this calibre. I agree with the upgrade of indoor spa as it is an new addition, just seems very unfair you cannot use outside.

Upped the price mid contract, deliver worse service, in terms of hygiene and general tidiness, changing rooms aren’t great and appear to have allowed too many memberships so spa is ridiculously busy and loud in the evenings when you want to relax. Looks tired bar the spa. Gym isn’t as good as a pure gym, too busy, not enough db’s, not enough machines, not enough benches. Surprising given paying £308pcm (originally £279 hence my anger and frustration) for couples membership. Spa is nice, although have changed the lighting its now rather bright in there, and is the primary reason we joined, but now too busy and loud. Just not very happy and won’t be renewing membership in Sept.

Gone downhill unfortunately and wanted twice the price to move from Edinburgh. Literally wanted £150 per person per month....even if joining as a couple! The massagers are gone and the outdoor pool isn't open in the winter now yet the prices haven't changed. There are much better value gyms around and a couple places for indoor tennis too but I'm disappointed because I used to love this place!

I just enquired about the membership and spoke to a member of staff called Lucy. Unfortunately, I found our conversation very uncomfortable and upsetting. I had two requests, in order to make a decision on joining: 1. try the club with my children (not just a tour, but actually try it so we can see if the water and the showers are warm enough) 2. have a look at the schedule of kids swimming classes, so we can see roughly if they would fit with our busy family schedule. She proceeded talking to me as if I haven’t asked for either of these things, offering a tour and pricing information. When I asked again about coming to the club and actually trying the facilities, she persistently informed me that this is not possible, there are no day passes, refused to ask her manager about it and continued to state “our members pay a lot of money, so we can’t allow you to come on a day pass”, which sounded very aggressive and belittling. She also refused to send me a schedule for the kids swimming classes, and when I asked again she stated that they don’t have a schedule, which I find quite hard to believe. For a high-level fitness club like David Lloyds, I would expect a much higher level of customer service and willingness to listen to requests. If I may offer my opinion, I think David Lloyds have lost many potential members if they are spoken to like this.

Visited here whilst staying in Manchester. Nice atmosphere. Very spacious, so much so that it was a bit like a maze for a newcomer. Pretty basic gym equipment, some of which was a bit dated. Could do with renewing some of the weight machines, and should definitely add a hack squat!! Great social area. Good staff on reception. Give it a refresh and update machines, and it will be 5 star.

Attended on 2nd October 2021. Reception staff member not welcoming. Men's changing rooms are not clean and smell. Loud TV blasting in the cafe area with nobody watching it, so much that I could not hear the person sat next to me as we talked. Coffee is low quality and served cold. Had to ask 3 times for a coke that was ordered. Cafe staff indifferent. The design of the building is poor and the look throughout is dated and tatty despite renovations. I have travelled in Finland a lot so I know how a sauna should be kept and the sauna is just a hot shed. I accessed as a guest (my mother is a member in Cheltenham) and this is not a good quality gym and customer service is poor. Not recommended at all.

This is about Staff attitude : When I asked for essential equipment in the pool the attitude is unhelpful & they can’t be bothered or care or understand the importance. Staff seem to have no clue what customer service is ! Serve your members & provide 1st class facilities and attitude. Listen to members. Train your staff to have a pleasant and helpful way , that’s the most important thing.

Just joined the club again hoping things had improved. Unfortunately not the case. The changing rooms are completely taken over by mothers with children running round screaming so stressful! Mentioned it to reception who said yes there is a adult only section but they don’t have the time to man the area. He then lectured me about how it was Saturday morning as if to say if you don’t like it come at other times. The club was fantastic years ago couldn’t fault it but the things I’ve witnessed these days like people running on the treadmill barefoot and the spa being used by members wearing clothes in the jacuzzi the staff need to get strict with members doing whatever they want doesn’t feel like luxury to me only the price tag!

I received a £100 penalty charge notice for parking for longer than 6 hours in the car park. They changed the rules around this but didn't think to notify members. They supposedly sent out emails and notifications in the app but I have no record of either in the app or in my email account. The staff have been rude and unhelpful and the response was effectively "Not our problem". You pay a fortune for membership and they couldn't give a monkeys. The stories of poor customer service at the club are entirely true.

I visted for the first time today with two of my colleagues, and was very impressed with the whole facility. The spa in particular is brilliant, it's clear to see a lot of effort has gone into making it a worthy flagship site. There are assorted sauna/steam rooms, relaxation and meditation spots, a cold plunge pool and an ice cave 🥶 Which we braved and enjoyed! The changing rooms are also very spacious and clean. We dined in the restaurant, which was nice and very reasonably priced. We would like to give a special mention to site manager Ian Stewart, who's friendly approach and manner made our experience that more enjoyable 👍

A special thanks to Claire who works tirelessly to manage the club in good order , she always gives a warm welcome too which inspires me to exercise harder! Also thanks to Sam whose smile lifts your spirits and is constantly on the go! Fabulous excelling teamwork …as the saying goes Together Each Achieve More! We are so lucky to have you , thank you!

Awful customer service. 24 days waiting for a refund, chasing every other day, sending emails, calling, contacting head office and online chat, and still I’ve had no resolution other than being told to wait longer. I’d expect better from a Pure Gym.

Visited the club today as was travelling nearby city. Unfortunately i can’t say it was the best experience having used Londons clubs for many years. nice facilities makes such a nice experience. However, the customer service especially at front desk is questionable, they do not care about any questions or complaints you may have and quite rude. worst customer service ever to experience. shame as facilities are so nice!

Absolutely loved our visit to David Lloyd Cheadle. It’s a beautiful club with amazing facilities. Cannot recommend this club enough as it’s just got everything all under one roof. One word wow!!!! I went a few weeks ago on a friend's day pass! This place was outstanding! The facilities were on another level and the spa area...... I'm surprised I didn't drown because my jaw hit the floor when I saw it. Seriously, the only issue I had was that I was pressed for time and didn't get a chance to fully experience the spa. What I did manage to experience, however, still has me buzzing inside. 😄 Expensive membership, but even I (a tight arse), can see the value and justify the cost. If you go often be worth your money, go once or twice a week, that would be expensive.... in my opinion. Shout out to the staff also, friendly and as a newbie, made me feel welcome 🙏

I recently had a couple of queries relating to the class timetable and car parking arrangements etc, I spoke directly with Claire Monaghan who I’ve spoken to on and off over the years as she’s always a friendly familiar face. Claire is always so helpful and willing to not only answer your questions but also follows them up and unlike some previous staff never says things just because it’s what you want to hear. I always think our gym is a better place when Claire is in Cheadle as so many of us know her. A big shout out too for Body Pump instructors Lisa, Bertie and Lauren, absolutely fantastic classes such high energy. Cheadle you need to hold onto and reward your good loyal staff!

Great treatments, and the staff giving the treatments were also excellent. However, I found the place woefully disorganised. On my visit, I was not informed of the padlock system in the changing rooms, and the assistant did not quickly understand my questions when I went back to the reception desk to query (thankfully I had not started getting changed!). Apparently one can borrow a padlock for a £5 deposit. However, I had to ask her to take one to my wife in the ladies' changing room, since I could no go in there myself. All of this should have been explained at the very beginning. While the treatments were great, they did not know which treatments we had booked. They seemed to think 40 minutes, when we had booked a 55-minute treatment, and gave us a few options. Unfortunately my wife wasn't offered the treatment that we had pre-booked for her. The treatments seemed to last somewhere between 40 and 55 minutes. I'm sure if they could be better organised, then the experience would be a big improvement!

This gym has seriously gone downhill. There has been a recent spike in memberships- you cannot get a space in the car park which clearly indicates there are too many members. Cleanliness has also taken a nosedive- the spa and changing rooms are not clean enough and showers just seem to be lukewarm these days. Feels like just trying to make as much money as possible without maintaining the standards. I will not be continuing my membership unless this gets sorted. Used to enjoy coming here bits it’s now a different experience.

Blown away by this gym - have recently moved from London to Manchester and have been a member of DL for about a year. At Cheadle, the staff are delightfully natural and helpful, the recent refurb is fab (less school canteen, more plush), the facilities, space and layout is great, plus the general friendliness from everyone including the fellow gym goers is amazing. Does a spa like this exist anywhere else in the UK?! I've been to some pretty fancy spas and none compare to the tech and variety at this one...

I have been member for over 10 years…NEVER had it been impossible to book into classes, not only for adults but also fir children. DL signed up lots of members recently and standards dropped 1) no classes available- forget about joining if you have kids and want them to do classes so you can go to the gym…this has not happened for since they started a new app and took on so many members, there are no spaces , 2) no parking spaces, you might drive round looking forward one for ages if you get a spot at all, 3) unhygienic floors in changing rooms, 4) their only way to book classes is via app which doesn’t work so you are stranded with a membership that is good just to go to a cafe and do your own workout without services they purported to offer, 5) impossible to get through to reception on the phone, 6) understaffed 7) don’t solve problems as long as they have new members signing up. Very disappointed at the low standards. 8) wifi s not reliable if you want to work there, you better buy add on to your phone. I m freezing my membership regularly in hope they improve but it s not been happening for the last year +
