Hare & Hounds

Bar Pub

👍 Had a very nice carvery meal here today. The pub was very quiet, I'm not sure why because the food is very good and reasonably priced. Maybe people are unaware that the Hare and Hounds is still a pub, bearing in mind the recent uncertainty over it's future. I would recommend, give it a go! People often mention carvery, good, service, great, staff, nice, menu, roast, enjoyed, friendly,

Three of us had lunch today. Good and quick service and the mains were great, we all really enjoyed what we had. We then ordered two desserts and cake away. We had a problem with one of the desserts, asked if it could be deducted from the bill, it was, problem solved. Other dessert and cake away were delicious. Would definitely visit again.

Yet another part of the Marston chain. Both carvery and ordinary menu choices. At a menu price of 2 meals for £10 it is hard to grumble - although it is difficult to understand how someone can burn a fried egg. Adequate service but the experience is not enhanced when the server simply dumps the food in front of you and grunts 'enjoy' appearing to mean anything but that.

Unlike other pubs offering carvery within the local area this pub. The Hare & Hounds provides very good food which is always fresh and above all hot, including the gravy and greens. The staff are very helpful and professional. I've been drinking in here years and it was always packed until you changed the decor which was nicer than now .please spend some cash on this pub because it's in a prime location and everyone is only not attending in huge numbers because we all thought it closed during COVID regards Mark Cunliffe

Hello first I would like to say that I am a trained professional chef . And this review is intended to improve the place . Before going I read a few reviews that was saying that the roast potatoes was dry and it's true not only dry but no flavor and actually for me they are not even a true roast potatoe which is normally one of my favorites on a Sunday roast . It takes some skill to get potatoe this dry . Even the carrots are dry too . I hope the chef reads this review and starts caring about the food. Why not really roast them with the meet and add seasoning and herbs. Come on make an effort before the hare and hounds get closed down ..... Why not even the chef go around the tables asking is the good .. Thanks

Food was lovely, staff were very welcoming and very informative about the food. Being from outside the area and looking for a new place to come for a carvery, I am absolutely delighted! Brilliant.

A friend and I have lunch at the Hare and Hounds about four times a year and have done so for several years. Food and drink (beer) is always very good, yesterday was no exception and specifically our waitress was attentive and provided us with an excellent service. We hope that the rumours of closure prove not to be the case as we would miss our regular visits.

There was four of us today at the Hare & Hounds and ordered a carvery each. Wow it was delicious. And lastly me and my partner ordered a lemon, blueberry and raspberry sponge with custard. It was yummylicious. Will definitely be back for more 😉.

My granddaughter loves this place for a carvery and it was her 12th birthday. She wanted to have her meal there so my daughter made a cake which we took along with us. We were really shocked to find out that we were allowed to have the cake on the table but we were not allowed to eat it the reason stated what health and safety????? We have always taken cakes with us to many different restaurants for birthday parties and never had a problem needless to say one disappointed child at her birthday meal shame really as the carvery was really good yesterday. Only negative about the pub was the heating. ... it was like a sauna. I heard the barman saying to a chap that the boss whacks the heating up and when we spoke to a waitress (as it really was unbearable) she opened a door for us telling us that it was her boss turning up the heating. The chap serving the carvery was doing a sterling job in unbearable heat with sweat pouring from his brow. We really felt for him but despite this he was cheerful polite and coping well on his own with the huge queue.

Good food. Friendly helpful staff explained menu was changing so some items no longer available. Restaurant very quiet which was a pity.

We visited this pub a week ago and had the carvery which we really enjoyed, we loved the pub and the friendly staff so much that we came back a week later and ate from the normal menu. The food was amazing and the staff were very friendly and chatty. We will be returning again soon :)

Ordered carvery for 2 people. The beef was inedible, like chewing meat flavoured rubber, almost bent the cutlery while trying to cut it. Choice for a carvery was very limited, should have had a look first. Even though a refund WAS provided, we won't be returning. Looking at other reviews it seems I'm not the only one.

Karen who does the carvery is a culinary magician. The other lady who has served us is amazing. I've been coming here for years and I've never been let down.

£12 for two carveries this day & age is remarkable. The meat is good quality, the veg is fresh and it comes with all the trimmings, yorkshire pudding, stuffing, gravy. The staff is pleasant and the premises are spotless. Yes, a bit of updating wouldn’t go a miss but times are difficult. The few bad reviews on here are obviously from people who want 5* on a budget so good luck to them. Keep up the good work Hare & Hounds

Staff are absolutely lovely, nice music playing, we had the 2 for £12 carvery which was nice considering we came 2 minutes before the end and the food was still up to scratch, the meat was really good. Had the cookie dough for desert which was really nice. Will definitely be back, Thankyou ! :)

Came for a Xmas meal with 11 others, was hounded by a waitress who kept telling us to hurry up and get the carvery even though we had told her several times we were waiting on one person (who was 6 minutes late) she arrived at 6,36, when booking we were told the last carvery booking is 6.30 but they serve until 7 got to carvery and no one there to serve us! when she did arrive she put out some uncooked roast potatoes which looked awful, carvery had 4 sides, nothing else in pots…no sauces, again gone, everyone on our table was dissapointed and no one ate all the meal…plus the pub was mostly empty so no need for the big rush or rude service and something needs to be done about the undercooked very limited carvery. Luckily there are several pub carveries around the area so I’d suggest using another one, several poor reviews on rude staff and undercooked dry carvery so we should have checked before we booked! The barman was friendly though…

The Hare and Hounds has always been a great carvery, this evening was no exception. A lovely welcome from friendly staff, succulent beef, turkey and ham, perfectly cooked vegetables and a fantastic price. Definitely a place to visit if you want a traditional carvery with excellent service.

Bar server very abrupt and borderline rude on arrival. Forever coming over to our table like a hawk waiting for roadkill, not even asking or saying anything. She also asked one of the children to be quiet… this is a pub/restaurant not a library. Carvery was pretty dire, roast potatoes more like boiled potatos. Gammon was soggy, beef nearly ruined my relatives teeth due to it being like a curb. Lady serving the carvery was very nice and the only good thing from this visit. First time trying this place and definitely the last. Place we had been seated was hotter than the Bahamas, heating on despite it being 18 degrees outside.

Staff are great! Been here many times to take my mother for lunch. It was awful today! The beef was as rubbery as the sole on my shoe, the mint sauce was spearmint sauce! Ruined my 3 small roast potatoes Disgusting!. Yes we told a member of staff. Will never go there again!

Table booked but no staff to welcome. Just someone behind the bar calling go up the stairs and sit where you want! No explanation of the menu which made ordering long winded. I was told it should have been explained. I was not told there was a choice of peas on the Light Lunch menu. The fish batter was hard and the fish was not as succulent as it could have been. However the lentil chilli was pronounced very good. The puddings were good.

The carvery was incredible! The pigs in blankets, Yorkshire puddings and meat was cooked to perfection. We used to go to another place but after it become run down we chose to come here, best decision we made.... The staff are polite, professional and welcoming. Really nice atmosphere, claiming, don't feel you have to rush off, plenty on the menu too. Thankyou

Lovely pub and plenty of space. The carvery was very nice enjoyed the roast gammon and the jab rolly Polly was great. My only criticism was the custard could have been abit thicker but that's my personal preference. 1st time we had been but will go again.

Absolutely glorious 🥰 lovely place, best roast I've had in years and even filled my piggo of a BF. Very generous slices of meat, cauliflower cheese was yum, roasties reallllly good and a lovely yorkshire pudding too. Even the cabbage and carrots were just extra nice. Much better than any of these gastro pubs trying to be too cool 😸
