Bar Pub

😠 Disappointed Called in for a quick drink as we were passing & thought it looked lovely from the outside. Gentleman behind the bar serviced us & was lovely. Very cheap drinks which was great, we love to visit real old pubs. I had a very important phone call & was rudely told by the waitress to come... People often mention beer, friendly, staff, lovely, fish, good, great, Great, nice,

Disappointed Called in for a quick drink as we were passing & thought it looked lovely from the outside. Gentleman behind the bar serviced us & was lovely. Very cheap drinks which was great, we love to visit real old pubs. I had a very important phone call & was rudely told by the waitress to come off the phone & I can only use it outside while I was still ON the phone. Very confused as I was in a pub & have never been asked to come off my phone before 🤣 I later saw a sign saying you weren’t aloud to use phones in the pub & that children also aren’t aloud unless eating which doesn’t set a very friendly warm atmosphere. Bad first impression & due to this I wouldn’t return.

This pub is great, it holds a no phone policy forcing socialisation and bringing people together. The food is great, the fish batter is made with the beer they serve. The alcohol they serve is the best I've had from any pub both in taste and how well it goes down. The owners are a joy to see as they are very friendly to people and welcome customers for a drink. Lovely little pub.

My wife and I decided to pay a visit and after overhearing a customer commenting on the fish and chips, we decided to partake. The beer battered fish was delectable! Really fresh fish and really tasty batter. Probably the best fish and chips I've had in a very long time! Very reasonably priced too! The staff work very hard but will accommodate all customers and there's no "rushed" feeling. They are so professional, friendly and courteous and they're a true asset to this pub! Overall, food delicious, staff amazing and beer very nice. This gets 100% 5 🌟 from us.

Popped in for a trip down memory lane as we drank and ate food here many years ago, but won't be back, felt unwelcomed by staff, no children allowed inside, no food and basically got stared at by regulars who made you feel out of place!! It's not false and I'm not using another name, how rude of you to presume that. We last visited 15 years ago when Alistair ran the bar and we were regulars, we moved away and thought we would revisit all our old stomping grounds, so no I will not remove my review!!

Took my dad this afternoon and the food was excellent, huge fish but the batter was light and flakey fish cooked to perfection, lovely hand cooked chips too. Great beer and very friendly staff, back soon

Cheap but nice drinks. They were very welcoming to a gang of about 30 hikers in the early afternoon. Lovely seating indoors and outdoors.

This place is going downhill fast. Each time I come in something else has changed and not for the better. Called in today for lunch and was met by rude customers and had a BLT which frankly was a lettuce and tomato sandwich on stale bread. Two very thin slices of streaky bacon that didn’t fill half the sandwich. Even the barmaid was shocked. Chef said couldn’t do anything about it as that is the “spec”. Another great decision by Sam Smith. Been coming here for years not I think I won’t be coming here again.

Beautiful pub. Doesn't take cards so make sure you've got cash as the nearest cash machine is miles away.

Friendly staff, delicious beer at a good price, lovely beer garden - ideal on a warm, sunny day. Phones etc are banned which I support as it encourages conversation. Good old fashioned pub, beware - cash only but I'm not complaining.

Very trad. But the pint of pure is a belting lager. And the setting is lovely

A Digital Detox pub! It's Mr Smith's policy, it's a blanket ban on using laptops, tablets and mobiles. It encourages people to talk to each other, just like in the good old days! Anyway, we had two homemade Sunday lunches, not dinged in a microwave. The landlord was stoking up the coal fires while I washed down my lunch with two pints of Old Brewery Bitter. Look at my other reviews to see where I've been!

What a fantastic pub, food was great and the staff are friendly. I will definitely be going back and can't wait

Awful. If you're into real ale. Expect the 95% rule they have. They say not having a full pint is acceptable.

£6.80 for two pints can’t go wrong! Very friendly clientele and bar staff nice setting lots of outside benches to enjoy the sun on!

Great pub hidden away near NT Dunham Massey house. Great home cooked food especially the chips. Long established Samuel Smith pub. It's all Samuel Smith's products even the crisps. Can now pay with cards used to be cash only.

Lovely plan to watch the Morris dancing with our son… or not. Met by rude bar staff looking like they were sucking a lemon telling us there’s no children allowed - despite us actually planning to sit outside. Obnoxious, rude, unwelcoming and not worth staying. Shame really.

Perfect for beer drinkers who prefer a relaxing quiet local pub, with friendly staff, no music, no phones, no slot machines, but wonderful beer at a good price. This pub is a model of zero stress.
