Horrible, absolute dump. The place is so depressing, boarded up shops all the way along the street, with graffiti. Delivery vans just drive up the pedestrian area now, can't even be bothered to go to the delivery entrances. No one seems to care. Terminal decline, can't see how the situation will improve. It's an embarrassment.

    More closed shops than open

I always enjoy the relaxing atmosphere here and there are no traffic worries. It's a shame we are losing some of the big name stores but optimistic that in future we'll find a successful formula for revitalising these areas.

Some shops open. It'll be strange when Debenhams closes.

Depressing dump. On the day it opened look great, but within weeks shops were shutting down. On walking down from Wilko to Portland walk, the first two shops you see were shutting down. That said it all, Barrow council made it hard for the shops.

It's a disgrace and a let down to Barrow. Empty boarded up shops, litter and gum on the floor. Be interesting to see the impact of BAE purchasing work space.

Popped in on a visit back 'home' and it was like I had only been in a few days before 🤩. Talk about childhood memories! Obviously there were some cosmetic changes and (some) different stall owners, but I was 10 years old again waiting for a go on the carrousel 🤣. What a pleasant surprise!

It is such a shame to write this review as Barrow is where I was born and we stay here every few years but the town centre and indoor market are just depressing to visit. The town we live in back in Somerset is bad enough but it is at least receiving some investment but there is no such thing happening in Barrow and it is so desperately needed. Our overwhelming feeling is that when we come back next time there will be no town centre left at all and that will be devastating. After speaking to so many locals it seems that even the large chain stores are rapidly pulling out of the town - something needs to be done and quickly to encourage businesses to support the community and this is entirely down to the greed of the local council.
