If you want to lose your things, you might be right here… the rooms have no lockers to put in your values. When asked for a solution to that, the women on the reception (which by the way was super unfriendly too) only offered a private room to the double price. So, the only way to have your stuff safe is to pay 150 Q. Canceled and will definitely let anyone know of that unprofessional “service” and hostel!

Just read all the reviews before you go. So much better in the area. Worst hostel I’ve ever stayed at

I have never written a bad online review before but felt compelled to advise people to choose somewhere else to stay in San Marcos. The first room we were taken to was leaking water around the Base of the toilet and the inside of the toilet bowl was visible soiled. We had to ask to be moved to another room. We paid extra for a room with bathroom/shower. The shower didn't work (unless the staff closed off several valves?!) and the toilet didn't flush. Fair enough, I understand water shortages, but when we asked for a basin to flush the toilet from the barrel of water we were told to "find one up nearby the other toilets in the garden". Bear in mind it was dark and we had just arrived.... anyway. We checked out the next day and when we mentioned these issues to the staff members we were told they were only here for three days and the owner is rarely available so they make do as best they can. It just seemed a bit grim and unloved. I would reccomend spending the extra 50Q and 50m walk up the road to Hotel Paco Real they were fantastic!

Supposedly there's water for several hours of the day but during the hours where there is supposedly water there was not. The beds are uncomfortable and there is no light in the toilet. There is not even water in the bucket for you to use to wash hands or flush the toilet. I lost my passport in the room and when I went back to ask about it the receptionist told me she didn't have the cleaner's number and to return the following day. The next day there was another receptionist who said she hadn't heard anything about a small bag with a passport inside it. I clarified (in Spanish) that I was sure it must be there and that it was very important. I gave her my WhatsApp number (she didn't ask for it). When I arrived in Panajachel an hour later I got a message saying it had been found. Therefore I had to miss my shuttle home and buy a new one. There was no explanation or apology.

Moldy & dirty bathroom in dorm. Decent breakfast included, I had to call to find out where to get it because it’s at the restaurant fé down the road. The owner tried to tell me I had to buy a special package for the breakfast and I explained that online it had said it was included. staff seems unhappy and I don’t blame them because I witnessed the British male owner being rude to a local Mayan lady working for him. Stayed here just one night because it was what was available last minute. I would only recommend it as a last option for one night.

It's really 50/50 with this place, it has such a great atmosphere and the staff are incredibly friendly... But the actual rooms aren't really up to scratch. The easiest way is to explain thus is to list the pros and cons below: Pros: The price of the room (fantastic) Staff are friendly Great location Atmosphere is great Best breakfast I've had in a hostel Cons: WiFi is pretty poor Water didn't run at all in my room and no hot water at all (even though there was supposed to be) The rooms themselves are wooden makeshift so you can literally hear every footstep and every word spoken by the people above you (especially if you have unlucky room number 13) Overall, I think the cons outweigh the pros but you get what you pay for and this place is GREAT on a budget.

I was forced to stay in San Marcos because I missed the boat and was lucky to find a bed available at Fe San Marcos. I honestly thought it was great! The bed was big and very comfortable, the shower was really good, the guy at the reception was really nice and helped me a lot, and last but not least: breakfast was included and was just the most amazing breakfast ever. I highly recommend staying here and I truly don’t know why some of the reviews are this negative!

I stayed in the dorm here and I understand hostel dorms can be hit or miss but this was a MISS. The Good: the beds in the dorms aren't bunk beds, you are close to the boat dock, but like everything is ain't it. Also the free breakfast is actually nice (either pancakes or avocado toast with the restaurant of the hostel). The Bad: the room gets so cold until everyone in the room is there to heat it up. So you are freezing at night. The Ugly: the front desk tried to over charge me for my room two times (the first time I arrived and then again when I tried to check in at 3pm). They have completely closed off the kitchen for guests and the only common space to mingle and make friends is the front, which is outside and can be cold. Also it's only chairs and tables.

Nice stay. it is close to everything and just 50 miters to the path and dock. Located very closeto the natural reserve it is filled with nature, birds and trees. This ghostel includes breakfast in all its plans which are private rooms with bathroom, private rooms with shared bathroom and dorm. Breakfast is served at Fe Restaurant on the main path of San Marcos and known to have the best food in town so try these guys out.

I’m not going to lie I was a little skeptical the first night and I did find several spiders however there’s something magical about this place. Perhaps it’s the wood in the room that gives off a good energy or the entire Lake Atitlan is magical. But I had an awesome experience. You can’t expect luxury I mean you are in nature and it’s cabin like. But it’s very tranquil and right on the main strip. Two minutes walking distance from the lake. Also very delicious free breakfast. If you’re looking for fancy this place isn’t for you. But if love nature and tranquility then this place is great. I would definitely come back . Thank you so much for the staff and the wonderful people at the restaurant fè for the delicious breakfast every morning. I will always remember this magical beautiful place.

I found this place pretty poor for the price. The wifi is only available in the lounge area which is usualky filled with dogs lounging on the chairs - one of which bit me. The breakfast is pretty minimal and for the price I'd expect more. Oh and they charge you for water (refill not bottles) which is really poor for a hostel.

We arrived and it was pouring down and the receptionist was super rude saying that we couldn’t check into our room because it was raining. So we waited 1 hour to get to our room and when we entered we noticed loads of cobwebs. The room was full of spiders literally everywhere even in the cushion!!!! the owner told me it’s normal since we are in the jungle! so after 20 minutes there we left

Pros: 800Q a night, working WiFi in reception area Cons: ants everywhere, aggressive dog snarling at you if you try to pass, shower broken with tape trying and failing to fix the flow, don’t have a storage room for bags, there’s not always someone on the reception so you have to hunt down the local restaurant to find the owner Overall it has potential but there are real improvements to be made

🫤 I think this accommodation is unfortunately too overrated. The rooms & bathrooms were always clean and the location directly on the lake with its own beach and dock is very nice. 👍👍 The room we stayed in (3-bed) was very basic and the beds not the best. Okay for the very cheap price though. The roof top terrace is where you will be spending most of the time anyway and it makes more than up for the rooms. From here you get a great view on the lake, there's hammocks and matraces...
