Went to Bali Asli to attend one day cooking class experience and everything exceeded my expectations. From the welcoming drink to the grocery and spices shopping at the market accompanied by chef Desi to the indoctrination and explanations of Bali foods and ingredients and finally the cooking class of 5 dishes, Balinese style. All concluded with eating the various dishes we prepared with only the freshest ingredients. Desi is a great teacher and transmits his passion for Bali traditions and Bali food.

Bali Asli Restaurant gives you an experience of Balinese culture, in a scenic setup. i tried the Megibung, which is said to be a local traditional meal where a group of people enjoy a meal together. They also have cooking experiences, which I didn't try but observed while I was enjoying my meal. I highly recommend this place.

BALI ASLI is stunning in every way. The Balinese cuisine is high-end and 5-star in every way. I love the philosophy of how they embrace the community, supporting those who fish, farm and forage in the nearby fields, ocean and jungle. The menu offers traditional Balinese food using an authentic Balinese style kitchen. Why is the food so good? Well, it's cooked on a wood-fired, mud brick stove, which allows for the delicate Balinese flavours to really find their way out. Most of the ingredients are either grown in their garden, or in the neighbour’s garden or purchased from the local market. I did not try the Cooking School experience but if you want to try that, their unique classes are based on “a day in the life of...”- and you discover Bali at it's most authentic. The menu is simple - choose 4 or 6 dishes. I have never had purple rice before !!! It’s the best dining experience - day time - for sure and the toilet - that’s a big surprise. Location: Where is Bali Asli? It’s in East Bali - seriously in the middle of nowhere - and that is the beauty of it. Approx 20 min drive from Candidasa (inland). 20 mins from Sidemen. A Bali hidden spot and worth the drive.

A beautifully designed restaurant that perches on the hill overlooking Agung and rice fields. The view could not have been better! The restaurant is very clean, spacious and the service was great. We only stopped for drinks but the food here should be amazing.

I have to say how incredible the cooking class was and how everyone, even the non-cooks amongst us, enjoyed it. This is a must do activity! Dewa seems to have been born for the role of teacher, he approached it with a concise and restrained delivery that masked a deep knowledge that rose to the occasion with every question directed at him. It was a lovely narration that didn't drift into long-windedness and push us to become overwhelmed. The huge upside was that we retained most of what he was telling us. He was animated and seemed to really enjoy what he was doing. Dewa was assisted by Ayu who was also a delight. You can not half tell she was taught English by Australians. She was incredible in helping my brother, who has Alzheimer's, navigate the various tasks throughout the day. For that, I am eternally grateful. In fact, all of the Bali Asli staff were wonderful. We started at 8am with the Amlapura market tour was the perfect start to the day. It's a beautiful market that is both clean and organised. We're currently going through this period of incredible humidity, so the market also presented quite a cool respite. Super interesting going through the different sections, daging, sayur, buah, satay, bunga and back. My sister-in-law, who has taught cooking to senior school students all her working life and who has taken all of the 'name-brand' cooking classes in Bali previously, said this was by far the best she had done. In fact, she went so far as to say it was the best class she had ever done in all of her travels through Asia. By 2pm we were all done and the last wok was turned off and to now be presented with all of the dishes we'd just prepared, was incredible. The recipes are so delicious in themselves that it was some of the most delicious Balinese food we'd eaten. I for one will embark on making my own Bumbu Bali later this week so that I have it there to add to dishes on a regular basis. It really was great to see how Bumbu Bali is the common thread in Balinese cooking

Bali Asli is one of the treasures of Karangasem Regency. They provide a high class Balinese dining experience. The food, the equipment, the interior, as well as the views are all combined as if you were dining in an old Balinese village. The food is delicious and the services are great. Will come back for sure.

Restaurant that provides traditional cuisine. The atmosphere is very comfortable, we can see the view of Mount Agung and rice fields from the balcony. Interior of wood makes a homey atmosphere and taste of the food is also delicious and delicious, there are various choices of food package menus but the price is wuite expensive. Open from 10 am to 6 pm. Parking facilities are available but there is no wifi network

Absolutely stunning place. The staff is super friendly, knows about the ingredients of the different dishes and super nice for a chat. The food is amazing! Super tasty Balinese food! As we are vegans, we were going for those options - well explained by the waiter how we could adapt some dishes! The juices we ordered were very good as well! The restaurant looks very majestic and well decorated and the view (on rice fields and Mount Augang) is insane! Don’t forget to go to the toilet there ;) Thanks for the experience! Must visit!!!

Unlucky for us we had a not positive experience in Bali Asli, we were waiting for so long to go there, our friends had an amazing experience times ago, and for us, this time was a big NO, for the price that we paid the portion were very small, almost all unflavoured and very simple, service nice but not so attentive, it's like a normal Warung Local with a nice view on the Mount Agung, but expensive. Nice attempt to impress but maybe need to pay more attention next time.

I’d give this place 10 of 5 😅 Probably the best place in Bali to try local food. Amazing experience! I’ll recommend to visit this place to all my friend. Everything is amazing including the volcano view, the staff and of course the food. The quality of everything is just perfect! Highly recommend!

We decided to visit here due to recommendations in the past and also previewing for some family who are visiting soon and want to experience real Balinese cuisine. Well from Welcome to Good Bye and everything in Between thumbs up for a delightful dining experience today. The atmosphere very authentic. The drinks whether alcoholic or non have been planned with using natural ingredients Bali has to offer besides the normal beers wines etc as well. The food both with taste and presentation exceptionally unique. In closing the view even from the WC is one to remember with our sleeping giant Gunung Agung sitting majestically in the background. They have two variations of menu. One to suit lunch and the other for afternoon tea. Note they are not open for evening meals. Cooking schools are available also. We highly recommend Bali Asli and thank the team and management and owners for an extremely affordable authentic Bali lunch we will remember. Peter and Chrissie Johnson.

Even though we came a bit late the stuff kindly accepted us (9 people) and served us with a smile. We took the last dish with the mix dishes and asked to be made for 9 people which they did. The view is also astonishing. Be sure to visit their bathroom too.

Amazing Balinese food. We had full menu that you cd share for two which was enough for us and we cd try all dishes. Dishes were full of balinese spices but not to spicy and had plenty of vegetables. On the top of this you enjoy incredible view of Mount Agung. The place is rather small so its better to call before.

If you are in the karangasem area and looking for one of a kind Balinese food experience, this is the place you want to be. Bali asli used organic and home grown ingredients, refined and elevated Balinese cuisine into a world class dining experience, and with gorgeous view on top on that. Ibu Penny and her team really brings out the best of Bali to international audiences. I went here a few time already and always great experience, staff is friendly and helpful. My favorite part is the view from the guest restroom-best seat in the house. I recommend their homemade ginger beer, also bring many friends so you can try their megibung package-which is an experience in itself. For those who incline to get some adventure, Bali asli also offers hiking trip and cooking class. My last trip here is with Friends from Ethiopia, and thanks to Bali Asli, they got an amazing first experience with Balinese food

We came about this place happenstance while we were on a road trip. We ordered Bali Megibung which has eight side dishes. The sambal was amazing, especially the raw one! The view was great (you can clearly see a mountain if it is not cloudy). Definitely worth coming back! 😊

We had the absolute pleasure of meeting the owner of the restaurant several days before we had lunch there and she was so nice. Several days later our plans aligned with a lunch here and it was awesome! We were delayed in our arrival and the people stayed open past their normal time just for us to have this experience. The food was excellent, the drinks were nice, the view from the restaurant is unparalleled and the people from the restaurant are so nice. We had a combination of all the dishes on the menu and we ate in perfect solitude and enjoyment. Loved every moment of it and should be on everyone's list that is visiting Bali!

Great view of the rice fields and mountain when it isn’t hidden behind the clouds, clean and nicely decorated restaurant with beautiful local food. The price was a lot more expensive than a lot of Indonesian places, but it’s more of an upmarket special place which is still reasonable by foreign prices even though it’s in the middle of countryside and there aren’t many other things around it. I had the $165,000 rp meal which allowed me to choose from four different Balinese dishes. The starter is a selection of three different types of sambal with peanuts and crackers. I would never have though of eating those crackers and sambal together and not as a accompaniment to other dishes but it works on its own. The ginger and banana flower sambal was delicious and unique. I also had a spicy snake fruit drink which was included in the price and a ginger margarita cocktail made with arak (local coconut liquor). For the main my four choices were chicken curry, steamed spices mushrooms in banana leaves, pork sate, and coconut and bamboo shoot salad. The pork date serving was small but well cooked and tender. The chicken curry was fragrant and delicately spiced. Both of the vegetable dishes made good sides. For the price I think I would have liked a bit more meat with the sate, but that was my only complaint. Worth a visit if you are in the area!

One of the best place to have lunch in bali. The place is a little far off from Denpasar or Ubud but the food quality and scenery is definitely worth the travel. The price is reasonable. We stumbled upon this place when we visited Taman Tirta Gangga. We wanted to have lunch and just googled a place for lunch. It is about 10 drive. The staff is friendly and professional. Definitely will go there again.
