Beautiful temple. But I didn't recommend this place for tourists. So many seller and tour guide that will charge you a lot. Sorry but this happens with me and other visitor. But it's great view to be seen. I recommend you not to reply anything or take anything from people there or they will ask for money. But buying drink and everything that already written for the price will be good since the temple is so far and you will thirsty after.

this is a place full of scams. go there if you have a tour guide who will ensure your safety. we were scammed into a car park and a swamp of people came surrounding us to buy sarong and burnt offering. they charged 100k for a sarong, it was ridiculous. until a boy came and rescued us and brought us all the way to the ticketing booth at the entrance, only then we realized that the ticket price of 60k includes a sarong, just like any other temple. and then, there are other supposed guides who said that we need to be accompanied, of course you don’t have to. so, scams after scams. they don’t deserve any tourist visits, if their agenda is to scam. i asked the ticket booth lady about why they allowed the scam, she was nonchalant. so, it looks like a coordinated scheme of things. visiting a place of worship should be free, yet they charge 60k and full of dramas.

Temple is beautiful. But you have to be careful, because lots of people attacking you and trying to sell bunch of stuff what you don’t need. Sarong( traditional skirt) includes with a ticket on the entrance , so don’t buy it before the entrance. You also don’t have to get guide and pay for him if you don’t want, but if you would like to have a guide- it’s included with your ticket, so he will ask tips at the end. Before I planned visit this place, I read feedbacks of other people, so you kinda aware what to expect and not get disappointed ☺️ Enjoy 💛

I visited a high part of Besakih temple which has a noticeably powerful atmosphere. I usually find Balinese ceremonies very spiritually elevating, but at Besakih I was horrified by the treatment of animals offered for sacrifice. I was appalled to see several live ducks squashed in plastic bags with only tiny holes for air. Another, not in a bag, was tied up very tightly with string and looked in pain. During the prayers, I felt more and more angry at the unnecessary suffering of the ducks. In the end I had to leave early because I couldn’t bear it. Maybe some primal forces can be invoked by traditional practices but how can any ultimate good come from causing entirely unnecessary pain and misery? Animals should be killed quickly and humanely if needed for food but there is no need for them to be tied up in distressed conditions for long periods beforehand. In addition, the area where visitors were seated while praying was filthy. We were sitting in rubbish. Staff were trying to clean up around us with brooms that were totally inadequate. They were tipping the debris into large wheeled bins which were surprisingly close to the priests and offerings. Besakih temple gives the impression that it makes a lot of money. The arrival, parking and entrance areas are clean and well organised. This suggests that those in charge could improve standards at the temples higher up the complex. Visitors could be encouraged to treat animals humanely and to recycle their rubbish. The staff could be provided with a more efficient system for cleaning up.

Amazing temples, definitely the best in Bali! It really is worth the visit. After reading reviews, we were prepared: do NOT buy a sarong, it's included with the entrance ticket; say no to the scooters ("But it's 1km!!" "Don't worry, we walk!" and that was it); say no to the guide, who will try to force himself to come ("I accompany you! Only 150K" We don't want a guide" "I come with you!" "Well, you can come but we are not paying" and that was it). After this situation, we were alone in the temple area (beware: you cannot enter the temples themselves except for praying, but you can still see them from outside the low walls), and had an amazing time. Be ready for the rejections, but after that enjoy Besakih!!

Besakih Temple is a mother Temple in Bali. A huge complex Temple is devided based on grade is Hindu caste where every Group of caste built a complex Temple. Tourists are allowed to entrance the Temple but must wear Balinese cloths and get it after paying the entrance fee. Ticket is 150K per person is quite expensive. Once you arrive at Besakih you Will feel the peaceful ambience and ensure you feel relaxed. Going up to the Temple you can Ridha shuttle bus but or you can walk within 15 minutes to get to the Temple. Highly recommended to visit 👍👍👍

Besakih Temple is the largest and most important temple in Bali. The entrance ticket includes a sarong, tour guide, and buggy ride to the temple entrance. Wear light clothing, as it is a long walk up to the temple. We arrived at the temple at 9am, before it got too crowded. Once you reach the entrance, some ladies will offer you flowers and incense for offerings (Rp50k/set). This is optional, but it is a good way to experience Balinese culture. It is also a good idea to hire the guy to take photos on the stairs walking up to the temple, as the reflections are beautiful. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The guide shared more info about the temple. I highly recommend visiting Besakih Temple.

This is very nice peaceful place . You will have to walk and kind of climb so many stairs to the top. Make sure you are ready and have energy . There is a entrance fees 50k per person . You can also pray there or just walk and come back. I would recommend just walk, because if you want to pray you will have to buy the offerings and wear sarung and u will need more time to spend.

I had the most awe-inspiring experience visiting Besakih Great Temple in Bali! This sacred place is an absolute must-see for anyone exploring this beautiful island. From the moment I stepped foot inside, I was enchanted by the ancient architecture, lush surroundings, and the spiritual atmosphere that permeates every corner. The towering pagodas, intricately carved stone structures, and the breathtaking view of Mount Agung in the background make Besakih Temple an architectural marvel and a photographer's dream. The energy here is truly special, and it's impossible not to feel a sense of peace and serenity while wandering through its sacred grounds. The temple's history and significance are fascinating, and the knowledgeable guides on-site can provide you with a deeper understanding of the cultural and spiritual importance of this place. Whether you're a history buff, a spiritual seeker, or simply someone looking for a unique and enriching experience, Besakih Temple has something to offer everyone. I highly recommend visiting during sunrise or sunset when the temple takes on a magical glow. Make sure to dress respectfully and explore the various shrines and courtyards. And don't forget to bring your camera to capture the beauty of this ancient wonder. Besakih Temple is a true gem of Bali, and I can't wait to return. Don't miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich culture and history of this remarkable place. It's an experience you'll cherish forever!

It's the most important temple in Bali at the base of Agung mountain. You buy tickets at the base - includes sarong hire, one way electric cart ride up to the temple and guide. The cart drop off place, avoid the hawkers selling offerings. You are handed over to a guide. Who is also your photographer :-) some great views, with Agung towering in the background. It's a temple complex with multiple temples - each one specialises in a particular trade, eg. Farmers, businessmen etc. Like every other temple, visitors are not allowed inside. The guide will offer to enter the Maheswara temple at the top for a prayer experience. You may be pressured to donate some money to the temple, 30k IDR is fine. You are expected to tip the guide at the end, I paid 100k. There are plenty of shops around the temples selling the usual fare. Free clean toilets near the ticketing complex.

Worth a visit, we had luck and almost no tourists. I was reading about scamming guides but our guide was nice and did not ask for money we gave it to him ourselves. What you always should do as richer people at any place. Grocery stores, Restaurants, people on the streets. If you are not giving 10/20k to these people you are stingy as hell. Okey back to the temple. Don’t read other reviews and just go! It has tourists of course souvenir shops. If you do not want that. Invent a Time Machine and go back to 1655 when the Dutch colonised Indonesia then it was not so busy there

The temple itself is great, but everything else is a tourist trap. It's 90k for an entrance ticket that includes a guide and a bus ride to the entrance. When u get off the bus, there will be a bunch of women that sell offerings, practically forcing you to buy them for the temple (you don't need to, they cost 150k), then if u go to pray at the topmost temple, your guide will ask for a donation, 100k, it has to be the red bill or more, that pissed me off, and, to top it off, at the end, your guide will ask for a tip as well. For me, not worth it.

The Mother Temple of Bali is a sacred and significant site, and the experience is truly remarkable. Upon entering, you'll be provided with a guide, but be cautious as some might ask for tips or try to exchange currency – it's best not to engage in such transactions. Instead, take your own pictures and savor the spiritual and cultural experience.

It’s indeed a beautiful Temple , it’s grand and magical . It’s mother of all Temple in Bali Unfortunately , our experience was ruined . My mood was gone before entering the temple . As soon as we arrived, few women and kids “attack” us and offer (not offer ) but force us to buy things (flower, incense sticks, photograph, sarong and few things that I do did not pay attention) that we do not need actually . Well , actually it’s nice to have flower put on your ears but not by forcing . at the beginning we thought it’s a courtesy but then we realize when they ask for money . You can’t even move because they made a circle around us and keep on pushing to buy their things until I scold them because I have two kids that starts to cry . Actually , at that point I don’t even feel to enter the temple anymore but my husband insist that since we already there we better go in and take few picture . Once you are inside , few locals will come to you again and offer as a guide to show you around, if my mood was not ruined I would definitely ask fo a guide but then I don’t feel to go around anymore . At the end I realize , why there are not many visitors compare to another temple that we visited earlier . Maybe that’s because .... Hope in future , they can consider to change it make it more friendly and welcome to tourist . Thank you

Amazing temple and definitely a must visit. Its fascinating to hear its history and culture. The ticket includes guide and sarong, and our guide explained in great details. Since we were bought up as Hindus, we also got chance to pray in the Saraswati temple.

The architecture of the temple is awesome. The guide come with the ticket. Our guide was non sense. Talking rubbish about other cultures, we asked him to leave us in Between. The visit was pleasant. We visited with an infant and the weather was a bit cloudy so we enjoyed it. If you are traveling with babies, try to take a carrier it will be easier for parents and baby.

A supposed-to-be beautiful temple made ugly by people trying to rip your money off left and right. NOT RECOMMENDED. On the admission ticket it is stated that it includes: - one way transport (you will have to walk back to the parking lot on your own or pay extra for a ride back) - a tour guide - sarong rental On your way to the ticket booth there will be sarong vendors forcing you to buy one and not mentioning that it is included with the ticket. Such a shady practice. Then a lady on the entrance forcing you to take offerings for 10k-25k saying that it is customary. No it’s not. Tourists are not even allowed to enter the temple interiors, you just walk around the complex. The tour guide asked for extra tip in advance. Otherwise they simply let you walk around by yourself and leave. Still wanting to go? Think again.

This is the most beautiful, active and intriguing temple I visited in Bali. Many locals doing their praying, so try to be respectful when there. Also some places cannot be accessed by tourists, see the signs. Note that they are doing construction works on the surroundings therefore, it is a little confusing to find the main access.

Amazing views. Huge temple, you need a fair amount of time to see it. Careful not to be railroaded into the guided tour, this will cost you when you least expect. Cost is to be paid for toilet use but not much. Need to pay to get in. They are currently in the middle of building more additions to the temple. Be prepared for an abundance of people. Disappointing to see so much rubbish around the temples, but this is Bali.

Superb temple I ever visit. Great, gorgeous, huge. What a glorious temple. There are a lot of temples around the biggest one. The atmosphere of religious place full filled the air. You have to wear a traditional sarong to cover your feet if you wear short pants or skirt. It’ll be nice if you visit in the afternoon till sunset.

The biggest temple in Bali. Inside this temple, it has so many smaller temples, both private and public temples. For public visitor, the public temples with a total around 18 temples can make a prayer. Visitor can not enter the temple if don’t intend to pray. For restroom, many local residents offer their own toilet for a price usually Rp 5,000. Beware of the local hawkers push visitor to rent their merchandise such as an umbrella, a fabric (sarong) and an offerings for high price. When you pay the entrance ticket, you will get a free fabric (sarong) and a free local guide.

Beautiful temple to spend time at. Best is to visit early morning during sunrise. When I visited this place in June 2019, there was fog, but otherwise depending on the day & weather, if you are lucky, you can see Mt. Agung from here.

Besakih Mother Temple is a must-visit with its breathtaking views and rich cultural experience. The new entrance gate for tourists is a fantastic addition, offering convenience with included tickets, shuttle, and a knowledgeable guide. The temple's beautiful surroundings are complemented by a surplus of parking spaces, making the visit both enjoyable and stress-free. A perfect destination for those seeking beauty and cultural immersion.

I visited this place back in March 2019 where I was very lucky, since there was a grand event Tawur Agung Panca Wali Krama, in which it held for once in every ten years. So the temple was decorated and there were so many people prayed at the moment despite the drizzle. The temple also located near Mount Agung, so it is really beautiful scenery as we can see the mountain from the temple. Note: When you arrived, you'll meet people who try to sell or make you rent sarong, umbrella, or anything else. Be careful, just so you know, when you buy the ticket at the counter later, the officials will rent you sarong and umbrella for free, even you'll get a guide, as its include in the ticket.

Besakih is known as the Mother Temple of Bali and is simply the most important temple for the whole of the island. It's actually more like a complex of temples in one very large compound and its known and loved for is its dramatic location on the southern slopes of Sacred Mount Agung. The air in this temple is cool with a view of the fog.

Really enjoyed the temple. A lot to see. I like the Hindu pagodas. The entrance cost is 60k per person including guide. Was worried about the guide asking for large tip and getting angry based on other review's. This was not the case and we had a lovely guide. We ended tipping him 70k. Toilets are poor. They should do something about providing proper toilets next to ticket office.

The oldest and biggest "Hindu-Bali" temple in the world. I can feel fresh and cool air blows directly into my soul right after I get out of my car. Many children and middle age woman was "bombing" and "forcing" me to bought their stuff such as flowers, incense, and cloth for my lower body. They insisted to sell those items with reasons like i can't go into the temple without wearing those items, and then i knew that they were lying because the officer at the temple gate was giving those items for free (included in ticket fee). There were some "mystical calmness" when entering the gate. There are many different kind Hinduism temple in Pura Besakih based on different Hinduism beliefs like Chinese Hinduism Temple, Shiva Temple, etc. Rice fields, hills, and mountains seems like protecting it and add more beautiful aspect to Besakih Temple.

Beautiful, fresh, and cool atmosphere into one. Pura Besakih is a silent witness when Mount Agung erupted several decades ago. The temple complex consists of one great temple surrounded by other temples. The view of the Besakih temple looks amazing when the condition of Mount Agung is not covered by clouds. One of the biggest Hindu temple in Bali and still the best one to see for tourists first time to Bali. It is very quiet due to the Covid-19 restrictions. The entrance fee includes one way motorbike ride from the main entrance to the main gate. Also a guide is included as well on your tour to the main temple. Beware of street vendors mainly kids selling their stuff to tourists can be very persistent and often too clingy to tourists. Other than that the complex is very enjoyable to visitors.

It's the biggest and widest temple in Bali, and in the entire Indonesia! It's on the slopes of mount Agung, so it's cold. Remember, when entering the temple you must wear cloth to cover your legs. And for women who are on their period, you cannot enter. When we drove it was raining so hard, and after we parked, the rain got heavier. We were already there, so we must visit even if it was raining. There were many umbrella rent from the locals (please bargain the price, because they might trick the tourists and give you expensive price). You can also pray in some of the temples like the Hindu way, however you must buy praying stick and stuff. There are plenty locals who sell that. The entrance fee isn't that expensive 15.000 rupiah, and they'll provide you with a guide. The guide will explain the temples as we walk. You could give some tips to the guide if you wish. There are so many stairs! Take it slow. You can reach the highest temple within 20 minutes. Going down, we even made a new friend unexpectedly. Now we have one more person we know who live in Bali 😊 There were also kids who sell postcards. We bought some from a girl. But then her friends came to us and begged for us to buy more. Oh man, they were pretty annoying because they followed us to the parking lot. It was a fun experience even if we were soaking wet from the knee down. Id like to come back and explore all the temples, perhaps during the summer 😁

Besakih Temple is a sprawling complex, on a steep walk climb, where you can hire a pillion ride to the top if you need, almost 15 minutes walk. It is spread over vast space, elevated, on steps, the largest and holiest temple of Hindu religion in Bali. Almost 2 dozen temples, convents, praying places, most are locked up but we walk thru them. As we climb up the thin trail, we reach the top temple and see a huge panoramic view below. Wonder what it would have looked when created 2000 yrs ago, the design, labor, and execution. Needs a lot of walking & climbing but every step is worth it. Don’t shy out….. Great food shops at the base parking.

Temple karangasem is the Hindu religious shrine in Bali. Beyond that in this mock area, there is not only one mock, but many. Because there is so much temple in one region, it is Indonesia's largest temple. Pretending to be right again is also often referred to as the supreme being. Temple temple is located in the village of besakih, rendang district, Bali karangasem. The temple made up of 1 temple centers called the majestic inflection of the flesh and there are 18 of the companions that are all around the pretending of the divine insuffers.1 the temple of basukian and 17 others.

(Translated by Google) Founded in the 10th century. You could say this is equivalent to the Borobudur of Hindus worldwide. Believe it or not believe it, survived the eruption of Mount Agung 1963, even though there were many victims around the temple, but the Besakih temple itself is safe. Residents who happened to pray in this temple were also safe, not hurt at all. How mystical. World heritage according to UNESCO. The most anticipated event for humanity in the world here is the year 2063, where the Eka Dasa Rudra ceremony will be held asking for the safety of the world. 15 thousand entrance ticket. DSLR cameras get charged again, so it's better if you just take photos using a cellphone camera. Mistis sekali. Warisan dunia menurut UNESCO. Event yg paling dinantikan umat manusia sedunia disini adalah tahun 2063 nanti, dimana disini akan diadakan upacara Eka Dasa Rudra memohon keselamatan dunia. Tiket masuk 15rb. Kamera DSLR kena charge lagi, jd sebaiknya cukup foto2 pake kamera hape saja.

(Translated by Google) It's actually amazing. But it is not recommended to be visited by non-Hindus. Because this place is sacred to them and used for rituals. If you just visit, just take a photo in front of you and prepare a lot of small money because there will be many young children asking for charity. And will continue to ask and also traders who will continue to offer merchandise until finally you feel uncomfortable and want to quickly leave. So visitors need to prepare money for a 30 thousand ticket, 100 thousand photo photos, buy 30 thousand ritual flowers, a 30 thousand - 100 thousand guide tip, and 50 thousand children. All of that so that it is comfortable to visit. OK (Original) Sebenarnya menakjubkan. Ok

This is a huge temple complex. Very picturesque. You can walk around the complex but some areas are closed off for praying for the Hindu Balinese. Good pics of the temple with Mount Agung in the background. I highly recommend this temple.

There are so many temple in this area. First of all, before entering the temple sometimes there are some scam offering you skirt to use, the fact is the temple management already provide you skirt for free because its already included in the ticket price. Some temple have strict rules so you need to read the instructions carefully. You can walk a bit far from the maim temple to see unique temple called Pura Gelap. The architecture is different from the main temple.

An ancient 1300 year old beautiful complex of hindu temples that is said to have miraculously escaped the 1963 eruption of the Mt. Agung Volcano. Today it is a major tourist destination and is surrounded by small business people whose livelihood appears to depend on tourists spending money on whatever they have to offer. Apart from the initial discomfort one would feel when surrounded by a lot of people forcing goods and services on you; it was a very interesting and fascinating destination that one should visit if they are in Bali. The energy you feel at the temple is out of this world. It is indeed a mother of temples. 🙏🙏🙏

Beautiful huge temple worth the commute. The grounds have incredible design and architecture, and if you go early you'll miss the mad rush for those looking for a selfie. Entrance isn't exactly cheap but includes a tour guide. Expect to be asked for a tip. Definitely recommended!

The biggest temple in Bali. At the entrance they usually offer you a guide, which gives you information about the traditions and religion. You will be offered to buy ofrands to go inside of the temples, if you want to have a ritual of praying with the guide you should buy them, even though they are selling them with a pretty increased price. The sarong is given for free at the entrance. At the end of the trip you will need to tip your guide.

Meehh!!! Not handicap friendly. The temple itself is very beautiful you can take nice pictures and all. The checking process requires you wear sarong and get a guide. Hindu view: Being Hindu myself and visited many temples i found this place different. 1.Hindu temples do not require you to take offering you can just pray even if you have nothing in your pocket. 2.There is no discrimination for people just visiting or praying. 3.Generally , all parts of temple are accessible only sanctums are out of bounds. For above points i found this place different from my usual experience. The interpretation is different here for reasons i don't know. Others 1000 yr old temple with artistic decorations. Temple complex is very clean and there is small golf cart type train to take you up the small hill. If you want to see the whole temple complex prepare to climb lots of steps. Must see temple

Great place, we paid 100k for a guide, we'll worth it as he took great photos of us and his English is superb. We noticed guides speaking multiple languages including French and German. Suggest going before 11am to avoid the crowds. Bring your own sarong. Don't fall for people selling 'compulsory' offerings containing flowers and incense at the entrance. Buy them if you want to but don't pay more than 10-20k for them (they will try and sell them for 100K). Beautiful 1200 year old temple well worth the trip.
