Tulamben
is
a
pretty
quiet
area
of
Bali,
with
few
amenities.
The
beaches
aren't
sandy—they're
rock
cliffs
and
pebbles.
You
probably
won't
want
to
stay
past
your
dive
days
because
there
really
isn't
much
to
do.
With
that
said,
Matahari
was
a
great
place
that
made
our
stay
as
enjoyable
as
the
remote
location
allowed
it
to
be.
Our
room
was
clean,
had
a
fairly
large
fridge,
a
pretty
toilet
(though
prone
to
being
stinky)
and
a
little
outdoor
balcony
area.
It
was
useful
for
drying
dive
equipment
out
in
the
hot,
hot
afternoon
sun.
The
breakfast
was
lovely,
and
included
fruits
(juice/platter),
tea
or
coffee
and
a
variety
of
mains
(continental/local).
Tip:
ask
for
the
dragon
fruit
juice
with
less
sugar,
sweet
iced
tea
and
fried
glass
noodles
or
fried
rice!
Both
mains
tie
as
my
favourites,
with
the
omelette
and
toast
a
close
second.
The
fried
glass
noodles
are
actually
beehoon
noodles,
stir
fried
to
tiny
bits
in
a
sort
of
Chinese
style.
The
fried
rice
had
lots
of
wok
hey
(char).
Both
contain
veggies
and
bits
of
chicken.
Yum!!
The
restaurant
overlooks
the
sea,
where
you
can
watch
the
sun
slowly
rise
from
the
horizon.
It's
beautiful
for
the
first
30min,
then
it's
still
beautiful
but
too
warm
for
me
to
appreciate
properly.
They
have
an
in-house
spa.
It's
warm
in
the
afternoon
as
they
don't
have
fans
or
air-conditioning,
so
I
recommend
booking
your
massage
in
the
early
morning
or
in
the
late
afternoon.
Book
early,
about
1
or
even
2
days
prior,
as
it's
quite
popular!
I
had
the
most
satisfying
massage
of
my
LIFE
here.
The
masseuses
were
friendly,
and
knew
just
where
to
dig
in
to
your
muscles.
They
were
even
kind
enough
to
customise
a
package
for
me—their
'foot
massage'
only
goes
up
to
the
knee,
but
upon
learning
that
our
whole
legs
up
til
our
thighs
were
sore
af
from
climbing
a
mountain,
they
helped
us
customise
a
treatment
plan.
The
men
at
the
front-of-house
were
also
endlessly
accommodating.
They
were
very
ready
to
help
with
any
issues
we
had
in
our
rooms,
so
things
like
a
broken
AC
controller
or
clogged
sink
were
fixed
within
minutes.
Johnny
even
helped
me
buy
medication
from
a
pharmacy
in
a
neighbouring
area
(kinda
far
on
foot)
while
I
had
a
quick
bite
before
a
dive.
He
really
saved
the
day
for
me!!
Matahari
is
located
in
the
vicinity
of
many
other
dive
centres
and
resorts,
each
with
their
own
restaurants.
Except
to
pay
upwards
of
5
USD
in
these
comfy
places,
but
warungs
offering
plates
around
1-2
USD
are
also
common
if
you
know
where
to
look
for
them.
Just
ask
any
staff
member
and
they
can
direct
you!
Lastly
and
most
importantly,
I
had
an
amazing
time
diving
with
Matahari.
The
store
was
very
neat
and
clean,
and
equipment
were
all
of
high
quality.
They
had
3mm
Mares
wet
suits
and
some
shorties,
SEAC
BCDs,
and
clip-on
fins.
Their
masks
were
comfortable
and
kept
water
out
well.
Snorkels
were
available
if
you
truly
needed
them.
Booties
were
thick
enough
to
protect
against
the
painful
pebble
shore.
They
had
porters
carrying
all
the
heavy
stuff
to
and
from
dive
sites,
and
my
divemasters
helped
me
set
up
my
equipment.
Matahari
mostly
does
shore
dives,
with
boat
dives
costing
much
more
and
needing
early
requests.
The
process
from
booking
a
slot
from
the
daily
dive
timetable
(shore
dives)
all
the
way
to
returning
back
to
Matahari
was
smooth
as
butter.
It
was
my
first
time
diving
outside
the
school
I
got
my
cert
from,
and
I'm
glad
I
did
it
with
Matahari.
Dilon
brought
me
to
see
the
Liberty
shipwreck,
and
Wayan
brought
me
to
the
drop
off
and
Liberty
shipwreck
a
second
time.
Both
were
wonderfully
professional
with
us,
patient
with
my
equalisation
issues,
and
visibly
skilled.
They're
decently
respectful
of
marine
life,
though
I
do
think
they
poke
and
prod
unnecessarily
sometimes.
Some
highlights
from
the
trip
were
passing
THROUGH
the
wreck
(first
time
as
an
OW
diver!!)
and
seeing
2
octopi
mate.
Crazy
stuff!
All
in
all,
I
enjoyed
my
time
with
Matahari!
