Apneista is a fabulous place for learning how to freedive and progress at your own pace! I started with a Level 1 course in August 2018 and fell in love with Freediving right there, even though I was definitely not particularly talented. But through the great approach they instructors had, I was motivated to sign up for training at a club back home, so I came back during Deep Week for Level 2 and now (August 2019) my Level 3 in the master course. Every instructor I dived with was fantastic and they all set the ground that allowed me progress at my own pace, through a good mix of patience and encouragement. Apart from the content, the context is also very much ideal, be it at Green Leaf cafe with the best healthy food in town or at Blue Earth for pool training. Damn, I’m missing it already and I’ve only been gone for a day. Thank you Apneista team!

Apneista freedive is without a doubt the go to place in Amed , whether you're into free diving or not ... a cool relaxed vibe welcomes you as soon as you walk in the door and a varied and healthy menu with freshly prepared ingredients and a great range of juices adds to the experience. The team are first and foremost professional and from the get go instills confidence. They're also a lot of fun , enthusiastic and accommodating and our time there doing level I ( 2 days ) and II ( 3 days ) flew by way too fast. Big thanks to all of you for making this a really memorable experience - in particular , Patricia with her beaming smile and total commitment to helping me with my ear issues , Emilia for level I , Felipe for level II , Tanya for her assistance in both level I + II and sharing all her deserts ( not ) and all the kitchen staff who always are smiling and friendly. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Go check it out and find out what freediving is all about. You won't regret it and you won't find a better operation to experience it with We'll be back ... An awesome place to learn to freedive and to continue your training. I did level 1 and have signed up for level 2 because I can’t get enough! It really has a welcoming community vibe, which is fed by the amazing staff who are patient and help to nurture your personal journey. They have a beautiful chill out space to hang between dives and eat delicious food and drink fresh coconuts from their cafe. Can’t recommend them enough! Just go and see for yourself :)

When I started my Freediving instructor course with Apneista, I never imagined the course could be so enriching and yet so fun. I could really relate to Apneista's philosophy of having high standards for safety in recreational freediving. Being from an education background, I really appreciated all the hands-on training in the pool, ocean and even classrooms, with fun mock scenarios and drills for practice. And, being at Blue Earth Village (with its stunning views) for the classrooms and pool sessions, was so convenient and mesmerizing. The course helped me gain a lot of confidence as a diver and an freediving instructor, and kept me coming back for more freediving conversations and community. Would highly recommend Apneista for any future instructors or divers.

I took a Level 1 course at Apneista, and I can't recommend them highly enough. The two-day course was absolutely amazing, with the theory session providing valuable insights. Feng, our instructor, was incredibly patient and understanding, especially when I felt anxious and made mistakes during the course. The diveshop's cafe served delicious food and located just steps away from the ocean, making it very time efficient. Overall, my experience at Apneista was amazing. I would definitely return for training session next time.

Did my 2-day freediving course here with Juancho. There were 3 of us on the course, which just highlights how amazing the human body is. Even though I never reached any freediving highlights, the other 2 went from zero to hero under Juancho's tutelage. I managed about 10metres using the rope but the 2 girls were both freediving to 12m by the second day and were both loving it. I have more practise to do but the course is designed for all levels, so don't be worried if you're like me, you won't hold anyone up and nobody will think less of you. You're learning to do something that most of humanity has forgotten ; swimming freely in the oceans, under the oceans. No matter what your level, you will gain something from this course.

I had such a great experience with Apneista. I spent my master for 4 weeks there and I drastically improved my freediving skills. The instructor (Matthias and Felipe) were amazing. They taught me everything I needed to know and even more. Relaxation, Mental strength, Fining technique, Body adaptation. Everything perfect, I'll recommand the school for beginners to professionals without a doubt. See you again soon Freediving Family.

Did the level 1 beginner freediving course, it was a really great introduction to the sport. Apneista focuses on safety and going at your own pace, and the Yoga connection really adds a layer of depth (hah) to the techniques and skills you learn in order to hold your breath longer. If you are interested in freediving I highly recommend checking them out. Even if you're not one to dive, the food at their cafe was fantastic and it's an amazing place to sit and while away a sunny afternoon on the beach in Jemeluk Bay. Big thanks to Mar and Maria for making it a really fun experience dan suksama staf cafe untuk service bagus sekali dan makanan enak ya :)

Five stars definitely not enough for this place. Fast and smooth communication (thanks Mattias) Incredible coaching (thanks Alexis and Anna) Been lucky enough to have a few training sessions and later finished my wave 2 here. All information was given in very rasy-to-digest manner, training sessions were perfect - all about joy, fun and relaxation. Thanks and see you soon 😉

Highly recommended. Focus is on relaxation/feeling comfortable. You're never pushed beyond your limits, always in control. Also learned a lot about the human body and the physics of free diving. It carries over to your daily life: you learn to stay relaxed in situations in which you would naturally respond with stress. Recommended for everyone, no matter your starting level or 'fear' of water.

My girlfriend and I did the Freedive Level 1 course, and we were both super happy to have done it. The whole team gives you a good feeling and the atmosphere is great. We felt all the time safe and can highly recommend this school for both people they have no or a lot experience already in the water!

Went for a wave 1 training mostly to get comfortable being underwater and to know more about freediving. It was an amazing experience, Feng was a great instructor, always patient and calm in his classes. Made me feel extremely comfortable, went from zero and scared to twelve meters deep in 2 days. All the other staff members i met were super friendly and at the end they made me feel part of a family. Great great value for money 👍🏻

I can not overstate this enough: THIS SCHOOL IS LIFE CHANGING! Very thorough, relaxed, knowledgeable and fun instructors. Not only will you learn how to free dive, you will learn to breathe properly so you can manage stress and be able to relax on a daily basis. Highly recommended!

Thanks for such an awesome experience, from learning the theory to putting it to practical use all the way to calming the mind and centering yourself before the dive down. The course was lead by a really great teacher with a lot of experience and patience that made the whole experience easy and enjoyable. I'll definitely be returning not only to perhaps do my Wave 2/Level 2, but also to meet back with a great community of divers.

I had an amazing time taking the Level 1 course at Apneista. They have a great team that makes sure everyone feels safe at all times. The theory lessons were very insightful and the practice sesions were a lot of fun. They also serve really nice healthy food in the cafe. It was an unforgetable experience. I highly recommend it!

In the past two days I did my level 1 course at Apneista Freedive and Yoga School. All the instructors are wonderful, they all took the time we needed and they guided us through the entire two days with all their attention. There was no rush at all. The school itself is perfectly located and Amed is great and everything is closeby. I really recommend this place!

Had the time of my life here. I couldn’t hit the depth the first time, so got a few coaching to eventually get there! I’ve worked with several coaches and they’re all just amazing human beings - so much love & chill vibes. Enjoyed healthy and clean food as well. I’m dying to return!

I had an amazing experience at Apneista Freediving School with my instructor, Feng. The 2-day program was well-organized, packed with valuable information, and provided practical training. Feng stood out for his patience, calm demeanor, and helpfulness. He delivered the information articulately and comprehensively, making it easy to understand and apply during our depth sessions in the open water. Feng was attentive to each student's needs and even provided alternative techniques to boost our confidence and help us overcome struggles. Overall, Apneista Freediving School and Feng exceeded my expectations, providing a supportive and enriching learning environment ♥︎

I recently did my SSI level 2 course with Apneista that ended up being very productive and beneficial for my further freediving progress. Felipe is a great instructor with very well balanced approach between theory and practice. With sufficient information provided throughout the course, both technical and related to safety, and the constructive feedback you will receive on your performance, you will be able to significantly improve your skills. The last day of the course we went freediving around the Liberty wreck that was epic. Will definitely consider coming back.

So happy I booked this course with you guys!!! I did my Level 1 free diving and absolutely loved it. It was a great experience. Very competent instructor, everything very well explained, I felt super safe during all diving classes and we had lots of fun! Small groups and very individual training. Everyone had enough time to train and explore. No competing, no must dos. The ginger tea at the end was also super nice 😄😄😄 no really, Thank you for this beautiful experience.

This was such an incredible experience. The content in the course was amazing and the instructors that deliver the content are incredibly knowledgeable. I did Level 1 & 2, and honestly learnt so much about myself. Thank you Alexis for guiding me through my mental barriers. Then there's the people you meet in the class, such an amazing crew to learn and share the experience with.

Apneista is in my experience a fantastic place to learn or to practice freediving! Great instructors, perfect location, a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and great food in the Green Leaf café at the same location. A huge upside is that you go in straight from the beach, attaching to buoys a short 50-100 m swim out in calm water in a small bay. From the dive sites, you have a beautiful view of Bali's green mountains. We (2 people) planned our trip last minute and hadn't booked any course in advance, so we were super lucky to still get 6 private coaching sessions in the water within our 8 days in Amed. Apneista did their best to fit us in in their schedule, without compromising safety. We both had some freediving experience from earlier. With all of our instructors (Kwab, Mathias, Patrick and John) we felt completely safe, calm, and learned a lot from their tips and feedback. This made us progress a lot and really enjoy our dives. I can highly recommend spending some time in Amed and freediving with Apneista. November, 2022

I took the level 1 course. At first I was very timid and nervous about breath-holding. The instructor was a Canadian guy and he was so professional and knowledgeable. He taught us all the proper breathing techniques and I finished the course being able to dive 20 meters, which is by far the coolest thing I have ever done!

I started with the Wave 1 course at Apneista. And i really enjoyed it learnt lots a new things. And liked the chilled approach so that you feel confident in free diving and not stressed out. After finishing wave 1 I wanted to keep going and signed up for the Wave 2 course what was even better. Staff and Instructors are amazing and make you fell like at home. Definitely try it out ;)

I spontaneously decided to visit a dive shop in Bali yesterday and ended up signing up for a two-day free diving course without any prior planning. Little did I know that it would turn out to be the most incredible experience I've had in Bali! The course was so relaxing and enjoyable, and I had an amazing time exploring the underwater world. It was truly a memorable experience that I will cherish.

I had an amazing experience freediving with Apneista for my first time. I learned a lot about myself, my body, my capabilites and its crazy how fast we can progress when knowing a bit more about the theory. Undertook a Masters course with Apneista over the last month (and my girlfriend took a Wave 1 course). Matthias and the team at Apneista are first class! Big focus on developing good safe diving habits underpinned by FUN - ensuring that the students at any level are enjoying themselves. All the instructors are encouraging, friendly, easy-going and knowledgeable. The location and set up makes logistics so easy and Heri keeps everything ticking over. The humans that congregate to learn and train at Apneista add so much to your freediving journey as well. I would highly recommend Apneista and so very grateful I had the opportunity to progress my diving with Matthias

I spent 4 weeks doing the master course at Apneista and had a fantastic time. Kwab and Matthias are top-notch instructors with a lot of experience and knowledge. They make you feel at ease in the water while giving you specific pointers to help you improve. The atmosphere at Apneista is so warm and welcoming, you immediately feel at home. As a bonus, the cafe inside the dive shop serves delicious food and the staff is simply wonderful. Hanging out over a delicious meal after a great dive session...I couldn't ask for more!

If you come to Amed and want to learn how to freedive, I highly recommend you go through Apneista. I did the 2 day basic level one course and I achieved so much more than just learning to freedive. The instructors are so kind and patient. There is no failing in this course, it’s all about you. You get a lot of ocean time, you learn so much about what your body is capable of and the vibe of Apneista is so relaxing, friendly and thorough. I tripled my own breath hold on the first day ! The instructors are there for you always, if you have any questions or concerns, you can ask them anything. The group is smaller, so you don’t feel intimidated, or left out. The beach you learn your open water diving in, is so beautiful as well. It’s not far from the shore, the visibility was spectacular and colourful. Also, the food is so good. It’s very professional, with a nice relaxing and warm vibe as well. Apneista is highly endorsed by world record holding freedivers and you can get molchanovs credited if you want through Apneista.

We were a group of five who just completed the level 1 and 2 free diving course with Apneista. I can't say enough great things about it! The level of instruction was fantastic: The team were stellar and took great care of us making sure we had a ton of fun, stayed relaxed and safe. The conditions were superb and the week was a deep dive not just into the ocean but into the inner world. The food at Green leaf cafe on site was delicious and the accommodation at restaurant at Blue Earth just up the hill was excellent. They also have a 25 meter pool, the most beautiful yoga shala in Amed and high intensity training gym with spectacular views of the volcano and the ocean. If you are contemplating exploring the under water world with one breath book with the Apenista crew now! Thank you all so much! We love you!

Took the level 1 course and I loved their benevolent and warm teaching philosophy; when I tried to register, I told to my instructor, Shaz, that I'd like to know how much I'm good at it by comparing myself with other students, but she told me that everyone has their own limits and talents, and it's about knowing your own. When we went for the 1st dive, I dove to touch the end of the rope hung deep under the surface. After a couple of dives, I asked to Juancho, another instructor, how deep it was, and he didn't tell me at the moment; because it was not achieving a number, it's more about examining my body and breath while doing them. Before taking the course, I thought freediving is for someone who has exceptional lung volume or who can run really long distances, but actually it's for everyone, since it's more about 'being able to relax at the freakiest moment'. Juancho once told me that 'freediving is a very lazy sport'. I really loved the meditative aspect of this sport.

The guys are great, I was in the water with Nikki! She take care of me all the time, she was so patience, thank you so much! Also in Amed the sea it's much better then Gili to learn, because in the Gilis Island can be quite rough! 100% a place to go for your freedive course!

I've just completed my level 2 freediving course at Apneista. The location and facilities were both beautiful. One of our lessons was in a wooden yoga shala overlooking the volcano which is the best classroom I've ever been in. The course was well balanced between theory and practise was perfectly paced to take us through the 3 days. Matthias' non competitive approach allowed us to focus on the techniques and relaxation rather than depth which probably led to me reaching a deeper depth in the end anyway. I felt very supported throughout and my initial anxiety turned into peace and relaxation in the water.

I did the level 1 course in July. It was a beautiful setting, gentle atmosphere and my instructs Maria and Anna were succinct , joyful , experienced , funny and kind. The manual was excellent. The course had just the right balance of theory and practice. I will be back to do my level 2 at Apneista and back in Amed for Deep Week. Special mention goes to the delicious healthy food at the cafe and my accomodation across the road Yoga Dharma Homestay.

We came without much expectation for Level 1 and got super happy. We enjoyed as Level 1 so much that we directly registered for Level 2. We learned heaps, it was super interesting and challenging. Challenging but without once pushing our limits and feeling uncomfortable. The instructors are doing a great job by teaching us how to enjoy and perform this crazy sport and always feel safe! We didn’t only learn a new sport, we learned practices and mindsets that will help in our day to day life. If you’re in Bali this is a MUST DO ! Thank you to the whole team for this amazing experience :)

Great freediving school with a spectacular classroom (next to the ocean - hard life). Knowledgeable and patient staff who pushed you to the limit but to the extent where you felt safe . Hope to visit again someday for the hard life next to the beach :P

Fantastic experience doing the beginner “basic” 2-days introduction to freediving. You learn a lot about how your body reacts to water through the in depth courses, and have 3 diving slots to dive and improve your depth. At the end I could achieve 20m and this was one of the most fantastic experiences in my life: the calm, the meditative experience down there is unparalleled. I really can’t wait to continue with more advanced classes! Beyond the dive, the food and drinks are incredible - I suggest the spinach gluten free crepe and a ginger honey tea to boost your energy for the dives!

  • 4/5 Martinson C. 4 years ago on Google
Loved the venue, the location, the freediving instructor and the experience! We even managed to see a whale shark while practicing our freediving techniques. My only suggestion would be for people taking the freediving class 1 to read and review videos on the frenzel equalization. I feel having this skill right from the start of the class will help you getting more insights for your money, and enjoy the class a bit more. That being said, it was a truly remarkable experience.

Strongly recommend!

I did the basic level one free diving course with Matthias as an instructor. The class is a mix of free diving theory, diving in the pool and ocean and learning about tools how to calm and control your body and mind. Even if you will never dive again after that class I think most people will benefit from it. It felt completely save, the instructors work with you, no matter how secure you feel in the water, are very empathetic and personal. It was one of the best things I did in a long time and much less scary or intimidating than some people might imagine. I will def return !

We got a full blast of the science behind freediving, which was much appreciated. The courses are paced at exactly how you feel comfortable too. It can be a steep learning curve beforehand, so I recommend doing some research on how to prepare before, er, diving in. If you want to try diving in Bali though, this is the place to go.

Had such a pleasant time there with the instructors and staff! The freediving session was amazing, the coaches paid so much attention to a lot of small details that made the session even better! Highly recommend a visit there if you want to Freedive.

Excellent place to learn free diving. Great instructors, great location and great facilities. You get access to a 25m pool and an outdoor gym included in your master's program tuition.

Apneista is by far the most perfect place for freediving I’ve ever visited! The instructors here are so passionate about freediving and love sharing their knowledge. The owners are lovely. The cafe attached is hands down the best food in Amed (especially vegan options) with beautiful hard working women in the kitchen and on the floor. The fact that you can fin out from shore such a short distance with the opportunity to see blue starfish and the occasional turtle on the way to a luscious 50m drop is just so convenient it’s not funny. I had the most amazing month in Amed this year and every day I still dream of going back forever! Thank you to Mathieus, Kwab, Matt, Patricia, Ketut and the girls for such warm hospitality. Hope to see you all again soon! Justine.

I took the basic course and it was an awesome experience! I learned about breathing and relaxing techniques, very useful not only for diving, and in the water it was challenging but after only two days I went from 0 to 15 metres below the surface, thanks to the guidance and patience of our very nice and friendly instructor Alejandro. Moreover Amed is a beautiful place, like a little paradise, and Apneista has friendly staff a nd delicious healthy food. Absolutely recommended!

A truly unforgettable experience. I got so much more out of the experience than I had expected. Everything from the freediving itself, the instructors, the people and staff in the cafe, and the location right on the beach all made a perfect holiday. There is a genuine community vibe that you feel from day 1 which makes the diving that much more enjoyable and relaxed. The instructors put you at ease from the start and have a real talent for creating an atmosphere without any pressure whatsoever yet at the same time encouraging you to explore outside your comfort zone.

My girlfriend and I did our level 1 freediving course here with Felipe as our instructor. The course was magical and we gained so many life skills throughout the course that can be applied to other parts of our lives. We can not recommend using this course anymore! Thanks Apneista team :)

The instructors are all highly skilled and have a great sense of humour which really helped to relax us throughout the course! Amed is a beautiful place to learn to free dive safely, especially through these guys! We will be back!

I had a great experience with Apneista doing my level 1 training. Fang was an awesome teacher, the pool at Blue Earth Village was a great tool for our introduction on day 1 and to swim straight out from the shop for our diving was great. The food served in their shop was pretty good too for lunch. I’ll be back sometime soon to do my level 2 with them. Thanks for introducing me to the world of freediving Apneista.

😠 Awful experience. I wanted to subscribe to my partner for their yoga class and spend an afternoon there with the family. First of all, booking the yoga class was already challenging. They want you to pay upfront. Otherwise, you can not participate. But the only option is via cash at the reception,...
