Good pub, good atmosphere, but the food and beer is ridiculously expensive. My friends bought a burger, each 14.50, which was meant to come with fries according to the menu. Turns out afterwards that they charge for the fries separately and the fries each cost 5.50. The burger was of average quality as well, as were the nachos I'd purchased. Insultingly expensive even by Amsterdam standards. Would not recommend dining here.

The only good thing about this place is the view if you sit outside. It's located in Leidsplien which is the area with a lot of cool pubs so the vibe is nice if you're in the outdoor seating. The beer and fries were average here and I've tried much better ones anywhere in the city. Service was super slow and was also kinda confusing as the servers from nearby places were also serving in between. We were seated for about 10 mins but no one came to take the order, finally had to go inside and ask. No one checked on the table after serving, kept waiting for the check as well and went inside to settle it again. I would try another place next time.

Waitress overcharged us 18€ for beer she never delivered and other drinks we never ordered 👍🏼 Unfortunately we only noticed a day later. Enjoy the money you scammed.

A lovely lunch spot in the middle of the square. Listen to trams pass by while enjoying lunch under the trees. Food and service are both good here. Reasonable prices too.

No Wi-Fi, relatively expensive alcohol, well. But Magners berry is really good juice, pity Virgil doesn’t like it

Cosy place with some really tasty cheesy fries. Well worth a visit if you're craving some pulled pork or a nice Guinness

STAY AWAY STAY AWAY STAY AWAY, horrible staff, small girl with curly hair specially. I was here on 18th of may in the evening. !!!! AT 00:25 THEY STOP SERVING!!!! They will only serve girls after this time Very bad place, they were serving others but when we asked they say they were already closed. When i came in to pee I saw a black mouse in the toilet.

Ordered a burger and fries. My table was set with cutlery and condiments. I waited for nearly an hour but still no food arrived. Eventually I asked where my food was and the bartender realised she never placed my order. Then, 20 mins later when it finally arrived, only the burger came, no fries. It wasn’t even busy, the staff are just awful. A simple gesture could have made up for everything, but there was no offer of any discount on the food, free drink or anything to make up for their terrible service. Clearly it’s a pub for tourists so they don’t care if you ever come back. The pints are also a rip off. Avoid this place

Good atmosphere, table service, a little loud for talking, with sport, waiter from Coleraine was great. Good beer.

Bit slow with the drink services but once order had been placed drinks were fast to arrive. Great atmosphere and lovely spot to sit in the sun with a beer.

Best Guinness I’ve had in Amsterdam since moving here 5 days ago. Still the only Guinness I’ve had since moving here. Speaking from experience, it’s a mighty fine Guinness. Tastes like Guinness. Nice pub. Kitchen closes surprisingly early. So unfortunately was only able to enjoy one Guinness. So, I’m sorry Hoopman, for that reason, you lose a star. I’ll be back. You can try to win me over and earn that next star. I’m a fair man and I like Guinness.

Location is great, but it is to catch tourists. Service was bad. We got there hungry, asked for appetizers and they had none. I asked for olives and they said they couldn't bring it before the plates. When they brought it, this is what they put in our table, unopened. Ridiculous.

We had an 8 pm dinner reservation at a different place and needed a quick drink before hand. Guinness tasted very fresh.

Great Irish bar in a good location. Good service. Nice selection of beer. We tried bitterballen for the first time. It’s a fried ball of meaty gravy. The spicy nut came in a cool little can. Plus fries, the Dutch love their fries.

Wow. I have been many times in Amsterdam, by far, this is the best place that I ate dinner in! The food was very good and fresh, and tasty of course. The cheesecake is out of this world. You have to try them!

Came in and sat outside around 4pm on a Saturday. It was busy and you seat yourself. The servers were nice and attentive once they noticed you were there. There are several other restaurants nearby with outdoor seating as well so it was a bit loud. Only had some snacks and they arrived hot and tasted great.

Nice place! It takes you back to the old films with all the historical items, style and decorations. But I didn't know what is an Irish pub doing in Amsterdam? I wish they could write down that history (relation) between them.

Good for watching sports and that’s it, 9 euros for a pint of Guinness feels like you’re being mugged off, especially when they don’t advertise the draught drink prices. The head needs a wobble as their competitors 3 doors down are 2 euros cheaper

Very over priced and under whelming Irish bar. Ordered fish and chips; the fish looked and tasted frozen. The fries were good, but not enough to make up for the lack of fish quality.

Possibly the worst nacho’s i’ve ever had for the price you would think you would atleast get some cheese on them .. Service was also very slow . But atleast the cider was nice :)

Love coming to this place to watch EPL. Great screens and intimate atmosphere without idiots. The staff are awesome and get into the game when you're watching and always with commentary.

  • 2/5 Shane S. 1 year ago on Google
Guinness here tastes like a glass of cold p*ss from a tourist trap. Completely lacks the mouthfeel and just tastes plain awful - which is conpletely disappointing for an "irish pub". Plenty of better bars about, but you'll get a great pint down Mulligan's if you're willing to walk/travel a few minutes away.

  • 1/5 Thomas F. 1 year ago on Google
This place is BY FAR the biggest rip off in Amsterdam (and that's saying something!). A pint of beer costs a whopping €8, despite the fact that all of the other bars in Leidseplein (and Amsterdam in general) only charge around €6-6.50. The food is absurdly overpriced as well, not to mention extremely average, and the service is shoddy. No wonder every time I pass it the place is virtually empty. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. It is nothing more than a tourist trap. We were badly stung, but I can tell you for a fact it's the last cent they'll ever get from us.

We were with a group of colleagues and the Atmosphere here was lovely. There were comfy spots set up for large groups to enjoy each other's company. The drinks here were excellent and our server did well getting our drink order in. She asked if we also wanted to eat and we said yes so she gave us a menu and then we were brought our drinks. We waited for at least 30 minutes and our food order has not yet been taken. When we saw another group that arrived after us get our food we kindly asked our server if we could please order our food now. She said she had forgotten to take our order but then took it in a friendly manner :) When our food arrived unfortunately the quality was not great, it tasted like frozen food heated up but we enjoyed the atmosphere and each other's company so we still had a great time. My advise is to definitely come here for drinks but maybe have dinner somewhere else :)

  • 1/5 Matthew W. 1 year ago on Google
Very rude staff in particular the Australian bartender with the mullet. Clearly hates his job and considering the bar is a tourist trap (assumption when taking into account the cost of a beer) you don’t expect to be greeted or spoke to the way he does. There are many bars in the same area where the cost is the same but the staff are friendly, welcoming and not insistent on taking out their bad day on the punters. Go next door and avoid Hoopman.

The food was okay and the stuff was friendly. However a WC was small and smelly. It is located in the basement. I have injured foot and it was difficult for me to get there. A hand dryer was not working.

It's a bit of a tourist trap given its location, but they have a big TV screen and a bunch of normal screens. They show Liverpool FC and other sports. Beer offerings are diverse- a few small breweries plus the normal stuff. Beera aren't poured the most care, but that's a small sin. The veggie burger and frijtes were fine given the venue.

Does these beers look the same? Of course not. They taste different, look different. But the waiter says it’s the same, and wouldn’t have them back. Update: the table next to us had the right beer. Basically they messed up our order and didn’t want to assume it.

(Translated by Google) Contrary to what the name of this place suggests, you don't get that much food on your plate at all. I was also slightly misled by the text in the menu behind the Wiener schnitzel. There was "veal" in large letters. I assumed that this was the local dialect for "a lot", but was disappointed ... If you like to wait a very long time for the service, then this case is really a must go! Our waiter was so slow that I would probably have had the aforementioned schnitzel faster if I had driven myself to the Swiss capital on my 50-year-old moped. All in all an attacker! #dankbaar
