Don’t let the name or location fool you— this is an impressive high quality and organized hostel, not to mention the staff is friendly and they provide excellent service and conversation if you like! I had two nights booked and ended up extending for 6 nights. The place was cleaned and washed from top to bottom every single day between checkout and check in, the bedding was hotel high quality, and I slept so well each night for the whole week. Earplugs are free, towels provided for a cheap deposit/price, and in the capsule bed there is a socket and night light. The rooms are quiet and lights are motion activated plus AC, so I slept very well. The showers and bathrooms are plentiful and large and kept very clean daily. Plus the location! You’re in the heart of the beautiful city of Amsterdam and yet you hear nothing of it from the inside of the hostel. Rules and policies are kept in place and all guests have their fun and come here to rest or socialize at the bar if anything— discounted drinks and live music are provided there, as well as a breakfast deal at Spar down the street. Special shout outs to Romina for helping me store my luggage and sharing local Argentinian recommendations and just being all around nice and elegant during busy times, Milan for helping me extend my stay at a great price, and to Peter and David for making me feel welcome from the beginning— and to the guy who was from my same neighborhood back in Miami who helped with storage too. Everyone and everything was so great at Durty Nelly’s, perhaps the best hostel I’ve ever stayed at. Book this place!!

Disgusting hostel. All the positive reviews can’t be more wrong, clearly. All the bad: rooms dirty, the “en suite” toilet in the 12 bed room (Room B) was broken the entire stay and we were not able to use them and had to use the shared ones which were always dirty, smelly and crowded, obviously. The lights inside the “capsules” (0 privacy even with curtains) STAY ON THE WHOLE DAY AND NIGHT, the same happened to all of us in the room and staff at the hotel gave instructions to turn them off and they didn’t work, the lights clearly DONT WORK as they should and you can’t sleep well! A nightmare. The beds are not comfortable and the noise from the streets is horrible, sound proofing clearly not a thing in this thing so called hostel. Check out was 11 am, we were back in the room (having left all ready to grab and go at 11) and there was already a cleaning person who had TAKEN OUR BELONGINGS AND PLACED THEM ON THE FLOOR before 11 am already almost kicking us out. Totally unprofessional, unsafe and in a pandemic era, not hygienic. Please SPEND SOME MORE MONEY and go elsewhere. Don’t stay in this horrible place. It isn’t worth it!

Poor rude bar staff. I got threw out of this bar because the barman accused me of doesing off after a long jot day of travelling and sight seeing. I was only on 3rd drink. I said OK I will finish this drink and leave . He said OK. 5 mins the bar man lost his temper. And got the boncher to physically throw me on the street. Not surprised the bar was empty. Dont waste your time in here.

Weird experience. Staff at night super kind, smiling, helpful. But the charger in my bed didn't work, so I came down to reception at 5am, and the nice night manager plugged my phone in for me at the front desk. Great! Came back at 9am and the new lady at the desk had unplugged it.. so I had very little battery. I asked why she had unplugged it, and she said it was hotel policy. I told her the night manager had offered and I explained that I really needed charge for today to operate in Amsterdam. She said if I didn't like the hotels policies I could leave. Really unnecessarily aggressive, rude and a poor attitude. Instead of apologies and simple solutions, she was aggressive and threatening, and when I asked if I could use a towel, she said yes they are 8 euro.. Given the previous night they had offered one for 5 euro, I reminded her of this, and said no thanks. She then said oh you're being aggressive, you have to get your things and leave or I'll call the police..! I've never been treated like this, after having travelled a great deal. I was forced to leave hours before checkout and with bad energy, little battery, and bags in hand in the morning, messing up my day. The lady was dominating, bossy, arrogant this morning ..not gentle or kind. Maybe she doesn't like tourists, or is just having a hard time atm.. Anyway.. hopefully management will check in on her, and put her in the right role. Love and understanding need to come first at the front desk, especially in environments like this one. Shame.

I spent here 3 nights to feast the new year's eve in Amsterdam with my friends. It was the first experience in an hostel and I loved it. We were in a big room with 12 beds (of which we occupied 7), furnished with two toilets and two showers. The bathrooms were always very clean, the beds were comfortable and the room in general looked good. With a deposit of 5€ each, they give you a locker to keep your stuff safe and you can also rent clean towels. The location is perfect because it is situated in the very centre of the city, literally within 10 minutes of walk from many of the sights and 5 minutes away from place Dam. Shout out to Orlando who was always smiling, welcoming and very kind with us.

Amazing hostel in the middle of Amsterdam. Everything is in walking distance. The people working there are the most approachable people I've met in Amsterdam. Jalal nicely reminded me that towels are only charged once even though I wished to pay him for a cage of towels. Remote working is supported with a small area near the entrance, but expect colder weather and some noise. Facilities are very clean, but I used one shower that had poor water pressure. The beds are comfortable, the rooms adequately warm! I'll have this place in mind for my second visit

It is not easy to find a place to sleep in Amsterdam in a decent price. Durty Nelly's however offers just that. The rooms and facilities are clean and the personnel was friendly and helpful. In top of that it is in a great location in the city center. A word of advice for those staying at the dorms and not in a private room; deposits are required for certain things such as towels and locks.

Dear friends who love Ireland. !!!! We went into the Durty Nellys in Red Light Distrikt Amsterdam for pint and enjoy the Irish atmosphere!!! However it turned out to be one of the few place in the world where the Irish personality and friendship never came to surface. The tables where dirty and the service was none existent and when we finally got our beers it was flat !! No gas… no life in the beer. We told the bartender and the short answer was he would no refund nor would he serve another pint unless we paid again. As he was not the manager and couldn’t give us another beer but we could wait for the manager, who would be in the pub within 45-50 mins. We left and said we would be back when the boss would arrived. We came back but the Irish hospitality was still no where in site !!! so no beer and no refund …. Which now result in this review… if you like the Irish spirit and culture DON’T GO TO THE Durty Nellys. They should take a trip the the real Dirty Nellys in Limerick and learn.

This is one of the better ones I believe. Everything is well done and kept clean. Had one of the cubicles. Slept 10 hours. Used earplugs and eye mask tho. Shower and toilet are 👌🏻 I kind of dislike hostels and Irish pubs but I'm having a good time here.🤗

Great location, and despite the name great place to stay. The all female dorm was super nice, with private bathrooms at the very top of the building. Although a bit noisy on a saturday night, nothing unmanageable. Right in the heart of things. Recommend for female solo travellers.

Super helpful staff. The whole space was very clean and I felt like if I was alone the whole time. The hostel is located within walking distance on the red light district and the train station. I will definitely stay here again.

Good place for a short stay. Not suitable for people traveling with big luggage, going up and downstairs even with small luggage is tricky and even dangerous. It was clean when I was there, but couldn't find any sanitizer.

Great pod-living hostel, lots of storage space, very clean bathrooms and showers. The reception helps with most of your needs. The liveliest area in the city in the weekday nights.

Hostel review: Good people/venue; bad room/bed. Service - fantastic. Amenities - modern and clean. Room - not recommended at all. I've been to many capsule hotels, and this isn't like that. The tiny beds encased in walls have almost no light. Plus they painted the walls around the bed a dark color, so even with the light inside you can't see anything. It feels like a prison.

Great prices, friendly staff and suited to the crowd! This hostel is in the middle of the red light district, perfect location if you’re looking for a crazy time. I actually booked this location by mistake but really appreciated the friendliness of the staff and the facilities are good and clean. Irish bar and food attached to the hostel, beds are pretty small and tight but at least private with a light and socket. If you’re looking for a cheap, safe, clean, friendly hostel to enjoy red light district then this is perfect for you!

I can’t say it was a bad experience. But nothing like “awesome”. Place itself is OK. Pretty clean. Nice stuff. The sleeping space is very well organized. There is light, electric socket (just 1), good air conditioning. But doors with such a heavy lock that after closing it sounds like the Gates of Hell. But this is Amsterdam, where people party and go home all night long - 2am, 5am. 10 different people in the room. So after all this crazy noise, you will hardly be able to get any good sleep.

This review is a few years late but I stayed here with a group on a stag do. It was a great place to get your head down. Premises clean and the staff friendly. There is a bar on site and the place can get quite busy. If you are looking for a cheap place to stay in Amsterdam then get yourself booked in here. The accommodation is reasonable if you are after just a bed with no frills. The food is good and the atmosphere and staff are very warm.

My friend and I decided to try out a hostel for the first time, and it turned out to be an amazing experience! Everything was modern and well-maintained—rooms had spacious lockers for belongings, and the beds were super comfy. It was a very aesthetically pleasing hostel with the best location right in the heart of the red-light district! This made it incredibly convenient for us to make the most of our time. The ground floor has a nice lounge space and is connected to a bar where guests get a free welcome drink! The only downside was that the stairs were a little scary, especially after a night of drinking, but that's it. While it wasn't the most social hostel during our stay, we would definitely recommend it!

Just perfect ! In the heart of Amsterdam with easy access to everything you need. The staff is really nice . The rooms are clean and well isolated from the noise. The place is beautiful and modern . Realky not expensive regarding the experience . Thank you nellys inn .

I stayed here for one because I had an early flight from Schiphol airport. Reception works 24/7, answers all your questions and provides assistance if needed. Women are located with women, men with men. Even floors are different. There are lockers in the rooms and outside for your hand luggage. Locker can be taken for a deposit of 5 euro at reception. Towels are also provided at reception, 7 euro deposit, 5 euro returned. Toilets and showers are clean but small. Capsules provide a bit of privacy, even though the people are going back and forth until late at night. I also enjoyed an amazing Guiness at their inn. Residents of inn get 20% discount on drinks and food at their bar. The location is close to the central station but also near by the Red Light District. However, I did not hear any noise.

I stayed for 5 nights. I chose this hostel for it's combination of great price + great location + privacy (capsule beds). The place has a great vibe and friendly atmosphere. The bed was really comfy, and the shared bathroom was always clean. The street gets noisy at Friday and Saturday night, but you can get free earplugs. The location can't be better if you want to experience all Amsterdam is famous for. Highly recommend!

Dropped in last Saturday for a few pints of Guinness while in Amsterdam and wasn't disappointed at all. The pints were creamy and the welcome from the staff was lovely and helpful. I loved the pint and Colette loved the music from the three lads. Drop in you won't be disappointed

The location is central and it’s a tall, very narrow building with no elevator. The stairs are very steep so if you have a suitcase, do not book here. It won’t fit. There is an age limit of 40. I had prepaid and wasn’t aware of this, so they let me stay, but I did meet others who were not allowed to stay. I booked a capsule bunk in a mixed dorm, and it was well worth the extra cost. The AC in the room worked well. The capsules are very private, well built, quiet, and comfortable. Lower bunks have a cage locker under the bunk. Upper bunks have lockers in the rooms. Regular dorm rooms had their lockers outside of the rooms in the hallways. The hostel itself doesn’t have a lounge area, but it is clean, and the staff are friendly. The showers never ran out of hot water but lack water pressure and had water conserving taps, so you had to push the button every few seconds to keep the water on. The Wi-Fi was weak in the rooms but very strong on the main floor. I didn’t hang out in the bar or try the food so can’t comment on either. Overall, it is a nice place and I would stay again. Upgrading to a capsule bunk is definitely worth it!

We popped into this bar to cool off and have a beer while crossing the road. First of all, the employees were incredibly caring and talkative. We had a very nice chat. Apart from that, the variety of drinks was quite wide. I think such a rich menu at a point relatively far from the center is quite impressive. The outside seating was not very comfortable and also not clean in my opinion. I think the beer is a little expensive.

Good hostel at a good price. It’s very close to De Wallen & other main sights. It’s well worth staying here if your on a budget. I wasn’t keen on the bar though.

  • 3/5 David H. 1 year ago on Google
Sturdy beds really appreciated, and the room is large and spacious. Problem is charging people for storing luggage, which is a level of cheapskate hostels should never stoop to. Also automatic lights in the room are really annoying and unnecessary. They wake people up whenever someone enters the room and waste electricity.

  • 4/5 Lorenzo F. 7 months ago on Google
Great experience overall! The position is great, central and easily accessible. The whole staff was extremely kind and helpful, the shared room and the bathrooms were really comfortable and clean, especially considering it's an hostel. The only thing a bit annoying was the noise coming out of the street, but it's absolutely not a fault of the structure, since it's located in the heart of the city center nightlife. Plus, they give you free earplug for the noise, so they take care of that, too.

I stay here whenever I come to Amsterdam. I’ve been doing so for 25 years 8 trips if I’m not mistaken. She’s been nothing but faithful to me. This is a hostel. Get there early in day. Setup your bed. Get your stuff in a locker. Then go nuts in Amsterdam. At the end of night. Come home to the loving caring arms of Durty Nelly. She won’t judge. Treat her good and you’ll be right as rain.

We stayed in a room with 20 Capsule Beds, fully booked. Beds, room and bathrooms were clean. Capsule bed itself has enough place to sleep. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Music from the pub below stopped before midnight. Other guests in the room didn't make much noise during the night. To improve: maybe more bathrooms? It was only 2 bathrooms for girls for both floors together. And the air ventilator in capsule bed was too loud and it was non-stop working. However, great place to crush in for 1 or 2 nights if your level of comfort is not so high and you need just a bed to sleep. Don't forget earplugs in case you are lightsleeper. The stay was better than expected.

A great quaint and clean hostel. Staff was super friendly and the facilities were new and modern. 10/10 would gladly stay here again. As a fair warning to light sleepers (unlike myself), the windows let through most of the sound from the street, even when completely closed, so maybe ask for a bed further away from the window or bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

Hostel is located really in the center and has a nice bar on ground floor. We stayed on top floor so we had some stairs to go up but the rooms were clean. Only downside was that we got no towels, there was no tissues or hand towels at bathroom and no hand-wash soap. Other than that I would recommend a stay😎

This place is amazing. It's near the train station and is surprisingly cheap. The bathrooms were very modern and clean. The entire hostel was clean. I love that the beds are in separate boxes with a curtain, so you get your own little space. They also have free locks. This was one of the beast sleeps I've had. The discount at the bar is also a plus.

Another reviewer called this place 'COVID incubator'. If you have concerns about contracting COVID due to close proximity with other strangers, I wouldn't recommend this place. The room is not big, so you can't swing a cat inside. It's a capsule hotel, after all. The place can be a mess, but this isn't the fault of the hostel - the travellers are to blame. This is also not a place for you if you hate excessive noise. It is located at a busy street with lots of bars. However, if you can look past those issues, this place is decent in my opinion. I stayed here for 3 nights, and I had no troubles. I was lucky to share the the room with other considerate occupants who made little to no noise. - Only 10 mins away from Centraal Station - Near plenty of bars and clubs, if you want to drink - Despite the noise outside, the room is soundproof. I didn't hear any club music in my capsule. - Clean bathroom and toilet. No long queues to be expected. Remember to disinfect your hands, and keep to yourself. You'll do alright. You can consider this place for a decent stay at Amsterdam if you are just looking to get some shut-eye. It might be next to a pub, but the hotel staff is professional and other occupants are in good behaviour. In addition, the staff was rather friendly too. But typical to most budget accommodation in Amsterdam, there is no elevator. Travellers with bulky luggages beware. Recommended.

The premises are clean, the staff is always here for your question, and are great, as you have the sensation talking to another human being instead of a robot. The shower and toilet were also clean, but I think the body/shampoo soap is too tiny for the number of guests. (Only 350ml) The bar goes pretty quiet at midnight (00h00) so no problem to sleep. They have padlock and towels for you, each with a deposit of 5€, and the towel rental cost 2€.

Expecting to enter an Irish Bar I soon discovered that the bar staff were Spanish. The main barman found it extremely funny to constantly ring the massive "bar bell" during every song the DJ was playing. People were constantly leaving because of this stupid behaviour, but he was full of himself. (small men syndrome) After two drinks our group could not stand it anymore and left, finding a proper Irish bar with proper Irish music.

Real Irish Pub, tv was very loud with football, but atmosfere was the right one. Bier was fresh, good offers. Bathroom could be more clean, but somehow it fits. It's a little bit man cave. I really liked it, perfect for a bier and rest from the very busy Amsterdam streets.

Friendly staff, the room was clean, the bar was also nice I really liked the music the DJ played on that friday night I was visiting. All in all everything was fine, the only negative thing was that the light in my capsule didn‘t work so it was pretty dark and I didn’t want to turn on the big light because I was afraid I could disturb somebody sleeping as I arrived at night time.

Accommodation in Amsterdam isn't cheap ergo Durty Nellys isn't cheap either. However, the dorms and showers are pretty nice - but there are no hostel facilities as such. They even change you to store your bag on the last day (paid for lockers) which is a bit tight.

Rude bartender. Refused to let me go to the toilet after I had shared an expensive drink with a friend after we sat there for 30 minutes. When I ordered 2 new drinks and gasped at the price, the bartender’s friends laughed at us, saying I “should get a job” very much bully behavior. I do not recommend going here after I’ve had multiple experiences like this.
