I really wish I could give this place 5 stars but as long as they decide to not up their game, staff-wise, It will be a 4 star. Let's first talk about the positives, The food is delicious and really honours the South African Braai culture, the Biltong and boerewors are especially recommendable They also have some nice self brewed beer, and although they could have more choice I still really enjoyed them. Then the negatives, I would say the interior could be nicer, although this is more of an in between part of the rating. The real problem lies with the staff, or better said, the lack of any. When we were at the restaurant there was only 1 waiter. This is absolutely ridiculous as she was under an unfair amount of stress. Firstly, as she was alone service was slow. Secondly, the stress made her make many rookie mistakes like forgetting cutlery, forgetting our order or giving us the wrong beers. No hate towards this staff member as it really is the owners responsibility to hire more staff. The food thankfully did come out quickly, they probably do have enough chefs. Anyhow, this place could easily be 5 stars if they just get their staff situation under control. It must have been better in the past as this place has almost no bad feedback. I hope they can quickly get back to this level.

This is a really nice place if you want to have some drinks and snacks or also some good food. The buffalo wings were really great and the biltong too. The smashed burger was absolutely great: just juicy and simple as a burger should be. My partner had the chicken burger which was also good. Each come with a really generous portion of French fries. This place is definitely a new favorite spot.

Scrumptious food, fabulous beer and even better service! The perfect dinner experience!! Location: (5/5) Located in the pijp area. A stones throw away from the Amstel. This place occupies one of the corners. Has both outdoor and indoor seating. The space is large and really well laid out. As you enter you see the sprawling bar towards the back and as you turn right it opens up to more seating. Vibe: (5/5) Super laid back vibe. The seating offers multiple options from smaller to large tables. The walls are lined with photos and cricket jerseys. There is even a cricket bat! Loved it! It’s got a really welcoming vibe that will want you coming back for more. Food & Drink: (5/5) Wow! Now this has got to be among the top places I have eaten at in Amsterdam. Great portion sizes and a really great selection. (1) We had the biltong and jalapeño popper for starters. Both were really good. The flavours were great and loved that the jalapeño poppers really did leave an impression with its spice level. (2) The beers here are incredible, had a watermelon one. I never thought that would be a good combination, but boy was I wrong. The freshness of the flavour couple with its refreshing feel made for an excellent summer beer. The mugs as well add to the whole feel. (3) the star of the night was the Bunny Chow! (First time I have eaten it) This incredible dish is an emptied out bread loaf filled with a spicy curry. We tried both the lamb one as well as the vegetarian. The flavours were amazing. Being from India, my spice threshold is quite high, but this really gets quite a kick. The texture was excellent as was the softness of the lamb. The bread and curry combination is to die for. The portion sizes are large and will fill you up well. Ensure you order this here!! (4) To wrap up the dinner we had Dom Pedro! Never thought I would have a liquid dessert, but always a first. The vanilla balanced the Kaluha perfectly and wrapped up the food experience well. Service: (5/5) Excellent! The owner as well as the staff were super friendly and provided really great advice on what to try! They also kept checking up on us to ensure everything was great. This is so rare in our city. Summary: (5/5) Dare I say, one of the best food options in the city! The combination of the wonderful atmosphere with the scrumptious food and refreshing beer make this one of the best well rounded food experiences you can have in the city. This place is a MUST TRY for anyone! You will not regret it! I’m going to be back soon.

Came in for dinner with friends and ordered the pork knuckle, nachos, samosas and beef ribs. The pork knuckle texture was great although the seasoning could be worked on. The nachos were good. The samosas were very flavourful with great texture. The beef ribs were quite nice also with the meat being moist and tender (however, seasoning could be worked on). Customer service was great.

Delicious food with great portion sizes as well. We loved everything we ordered but I’d recommend the babotie samoosa, sticky bbq wings, beef trinchado, and malva pudding. It gets busy so might be good to make a reservation!

Popped in the other night to have a beer and get out of the rain. They’ve got a great selection of options — we loved the IPA —super friendly staff, and DELIGHTFUL jalapeño poppers. Bartender recommended we have them with spicy Buffalo sauce, and she was completely correct — stunning. It was so nice to sit at the bar and have a snack and a chat. Menu looks dope, we’re eager to go back and try more. Someone else at the bar got vegetarian nachos which were positively towering with toppings and fake meat. Looked far superior to what you usually find in NL.

The BEST buffalo wings in Amsterdam! Perfect location, right in the middle of De Pijp. Service was amazing (our waiter Daniel created a safe place for me to demolish my basket of buffalo wings and was polite enough to ignore the fact that I was covered in sauce). My wings were gone before I was able to take a decent photo, but trust me - go! We had some tasty watermelon beer - perfect for the summer and everything on the menu was so tasty. Portions are big and the ambiance is fun. Highly recommend!

This place was a highlight when I visited Amsterdam in 2022. The service was great, very friendly and he made some great food recommendations. I ordered the buffalo wings which came with a beautiful sauce similar to ranch dip. For mains I went with the BBQ ribs and the meat just fell of the bone, it was perfect. The Malva pudding was the best surprise as it was so similar to a British sticky toffee pudding. I highly recommend this place and would definitely visit again. Comfort food at a reasonable price with great service

I always bring my friends and family here who come to visit me in Amsterdam. I was shown here by a former manager of mine who was constantly talking about watermelon beer, now I'm a Lion's head watermelon beer witness. Everyone should try the watermelon beer here, it is delicious. Food is never disappointing, with massive portions beautifully presented/plated. The owners run the place and are great people!

The staff are friendly. It had a nice ambience. Food tasted great. From what we ordered the standout was Topped Nachos and Wings.

We came here because they streamed the F1 race and it was a decent stream but because it's more of a restaurant than a bar, visibility wasnt always 100%. However, the food was top tier. I had the peri peri chicken with a side salad and it was delicious. Very juicy and no skimping on the spice. Not enough to sweat but a pleasant flavour. I would say if you order the side salad, get the dressing on the side as there was so much dressing that the salad got very soggy and the dressing was overpowering.

Lovely place, nice staff, juicy hamburger and crispy sweet potato fris, fruity beer to try huge knuckle worths a try! It would be a hard course for even two persons, and the meat inside is more like thick ham And remember to reserve it in advance so you don’t need to wait a long time!!

My second visit to Lions Head. Great South African ambience with a big screen for watching sports. Servers were on the ball and tried a few favourites. Biltong was fresh and delicious. Kalk Bay fish and chips hit the spot with the homemade peri peri sauce. The lamb bunny chow was a miss for the day, meat was a bit chewy, but full marks for spices. Good portion sizes and value for money.

I recently visited Lion’s head restaurant and brewery for the first time, and I was disappointed with the service. I walked 45 minutes to get there, and it took 20 minutes for someone to approach me. I ordered two beers just so I wouldn't have to wait again, but the waiter never came back to take my food order. I decided to pay and leave after an hour of waiting. I did get an apology for being underserved which was nice, but I was just happy to get out of there. The brewery had nice music and a good vibe, and it seemed like a popular spot for locals. However, the ok service made it difficult to enjoy my time there.

A brilliant place to grab a homebrewed beer and a fine meal. The beers are really worth a try and the dishes are delicious. I tried the Peri Peri 1/2 chicken, which was tender and spicy. The place is decorated in South African style and so are some of the dishes, although there are also some Portuguese dishes as I mentioned. Definitely worth a visit when you are in the area.

Great restaurant. The beers are interesting, all well balanced and have great flavour. The food is fantastic. Boerenworst was delicious. Pork knuckle beyond comprehension. We could not finish it with 3 people. And I always take nachos here! Lovely service

We had two great experiences here, not only with the wide and interesting varieties of beer, but also the kindness and helpfulness of the staff members. The place to go to for a real South African experience, especially during a sporting event. Booking a week or two in advance is absolutely recommended to avoid disappointment. We shared the Nachos, which was delicious and perfectly enough for sharing. Will definitely come back when we’re in the area again!

We had a very good experience. Slap chips were a hit!! Bunny chow left me sweating! Overall very pleased we decided to go there. Owner happy to accommodate a non-menu item, a beer shandy, baie baie lekker!

Quality South African food and house brewed beer in de pijp! The menu is pretty interesting with some options I had never heard of before. The bunny chow seemed to be a popular choice. They run out of food items throughout the night so be aware of that. Portion size was good and prices are what you expect for the area. Most things are around 15-25 euros so bear that in mind. The beer here is excellent . Their west coast IPA was good but the wheat beer was a real stand out. Will definitely come back to try some different beers and food!

I was looking for a good brewery and stumbled upon this place which was 5 minutes away from my hotel. We had a great time trying their cuisine and tasting their great beer selection. I had the Lamb Bunny Chow which was a bit spicy but matched the Lager nicely. Staff was really nice and attentive. I will definitely come back here next time I visit Amsterdam!!

This restaurant will be our go to whenever we are craving for fast food. Absolutely delicious food, very attentive staff and ample of light for good pictures, still cozy for a fun evening experience. The watermelon beer and nachos are a must try ! v

Love love loved the food here. Their steak burgers are great, fish and chips too. Malvasia pudding is a must have 👌 The service was also warm and friendly!! If you're South African, try the biltong 🤤

Must visit for South African food in Amsterdam or if you just want good food, top service and awesome beer 🍺 loved the lamb bunny chow, the slapchips (salt vinegar steamed chips, an aquired taste that you need to aquire). And that Malva Pudding is comfort, taste and fun in a bowl. We would come back for the food, the great seating, cleaniness and awesome service (thank you Alex!)

Had a lovely day. Delicious food, generous portions and such attention to detail. We will be back for the pork knuckle (tip: order this item in advance if you want it). Thanks for being fantastic and telling us all about your peri-peri sauce. The ribs were amazing 🖤

You can have great beers, that brewed at the bar. For the spicy lovers recommend to have a taste of the home made madame jeanette sauce. Great vibes and very kind staff.

The beers are tasty and fresh as they brew them themselves, the service is always really friendly, and the food was delicious. We'd stopped in for beers many times before and been tempted by the delicious smells from the kitchen but we stayed for lunch this time and discovered that the food tastes just as good as it smells. The soft chips were unexpected and surprisingly good. Looking forward to dinner next time!
