The staff are polite, friendly and helpful. Food came on time and was delicious enough. The unhappiness came along with the bill. As what I read on another customer review, it happened to me too. What was the unhappiness about? We were a party of 4 people. A review said not to order too much as the food served was plentiful. We specifically informed the guy taking our order that we would like to share and that we wanted to order 1 meat combo and 1 fish meat combo. We said that we would order additional items when the dishes came. And that we did. We added a veggie dish and another beer to our order a while later. When the bill came, it showed our orders as 2 sets of each combo. I didn't want to argue and make a scene. But for places like this, a poor review and a 'don't ever go back to that place again' decision will suffice. Be forewarned.

Incredible experience. Great rijsttafel.... Everyone loved it. Friendly staff. We had a lot of fun! We were lucky, went early and got seats. 😁‼️

We made sure Indonesian food was on the agenda based on reviews we read about the city. We couldn't make it to the one recommended so we ended up at this place. It was my first encounter with Indonesian cuisine so I'm not the expert. But irrespective, they made a strong case. The food was super. We opted for the set menu option since we had no clue what to order. The portions were good with a large variety so it was worthwhile. Service is a bit slow though.

We Really enjoyed this meal. The 'Rice Plates' option is a great choice if you are new to Indonesian food. Very welcoming staff. The lighting is quite low, which takes a few minutes for your eyes to adjust if you are a little more mature, but creates a lovely intimate atmosphere. Toilets, which are clean and quite spacious, are on the ground floor and easily accessible. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

This is indeed the best indonasian restaurant in Amsterdam. They are very authentic and having experience of eating from many indonasian restaurants, i can highly recomend this place. I loved the beef rendang and i guess this is the tastiest food in the world for a reason. Very clean place and service is very good. 5 star for food and service

Very friendly staff and nice atmosphere but the food quality has fallen incredibly since the last time I was here a few years ago. For one, the meal came too quickly and was not hot throughout (but cooked through) and really didn’t taste fresh. Shame as great location and very friendly staff.

What a surprise find to have pretty authentic Indonesian food. Their dishes come in somewhat small portion but sufficient. Reasonable pricing. Their Ayam Panggang and Homemade Ice Tea are the best! Ikan Koening not that tasty. Overall service is really good and ambiance is nice inside.

Kantjil is a lovely restaurant! I like the looks, the vibe, it wasn't too noisy when we were there, the food looks great.. Unfortunately, it just wasn't very tasty. I would even say that, for Indonesian food, it was bland. But maybe this was an exception, I will try more food another time.

I loved it, the vibe was great! The smell hits your nose as you enter, the food was great! Service was good, they explained and were attentive! There are many vegan and vegetarian options, the tempeh bun was AMAZING. They have peanut hot sauce that was SO good. I'll be back again.

Quite a tourist trap. We got in drawn by a number of customers as well as welcoming staff. Ordered sharing platter for 3. I have to say maybe 2 out of 8 served dishes were tasty. Food seemed to be re-heated as opposite to prepared freshly to order. Chicken was hidden in heavy gravy, shrimps over-salted, tempeh not fresh in taste. Spicy beef was nice and the shrimp crackers 🙈. When you are hungry maybe it’s an option, but we won’t visit this place again as Asian cuisine should be fresh and fragrant! Staff is very nice and helpful.

**Indonesians please read before going here** Bottom line up front- I do NOT recommend this to any Indonesians. But I will recommend it to people in general to get good food. If you don't see a lot of Indonesian people eating here, then that is a sign that it's not true Indo food. Read more below. I am Indonesian and I was very excited to try Indonesian food on Amsterdam. But, as an Indonesian, I was disappointed in the food. The staff was great and catered to us, the ambiance was wonderful, and the wait to get the food was good. Now the food... if you're non-indonesian, then you'll find that you will have a good experience with the food and satisfying. As an Indonesian, you will find this food VERY disappointing and very underwhelming. It was far from what real Indonesian food is and it was not authentic. It's more like Indo style food. It's like the La Croix of Indonesian food. The Nasi Goreng was bland and didn't have flavor. If an Indonesian restaurant can't cook nasi goreng then they shouldn't call themself and Indonesian restaurant. Overall the staff and ambiance was good. The food was good but will be Very underwhelming to Indonesians.

Food is just good, not great. Portion sizes for certain dishes are a bit small for the price you pay. Desserts are nice. They used to offer much bigger and tastier portions for a smaller price. So it's disappointing to see things got a bit worse. Specifically the rendang got less tender and juicy, which is a shame as its my favorite food.

Expensive but good place to get Indonesian food. While other Indonesian food places often feel like fast-food places, you get a luxury experience at Kantjil. I love the name of the place as it reminds me of childhood stories from Indonesia. The nasi rames is enough to satisfy one person and is presented well. The crisps on top of the food were not necessary if you ask me and felt like a filler item. The quality of the dishes is very nice though.

The food was really awful. All three types of meat I had chewy and cold. Egg was revolting. The best bit was the cucumber, it was seasoned well. For €19.50 I didn’t expect an almost inedible meal.

Food was bland. The fried rice tasted like paella, nothing fried about that. Soto Ayam soup was bland. Rendang was watery and not flavourful. Only good thing, was that the staffs were friendly.

Nice location and great food. Whether you sit inside or outside you'll get a nice ambience. I had never had Indonesian good before and I liked it! Relatively healthy and delicious. They have a nice selection of hot and cold beverages also. Do give it a try next Tim he you are in the area!

Maybe it was an off day but the food was lukewarm, and frankly, bad. Took a healthy eater there for a light birthday meal and we were really shocked by the poor quality. Dishes in particular to avoid: -green beans in a black bean sauce: green beans from a frozen packet in a super salty broth -stir fried vegetables with petehbean: clearly carrots, broccoli and corn from a frozen packet heated up with some garlic Servers seemed a lovely bunch, hence the remaining stars!

First experience at an Indonesia restaurant and was definitely not disappointed! The food was absolutely fantastic and well worth the cost. If you're looking for dinner in the area, this is a wonderful place to go. 100% recommend this place.

Never tried Indonesian food before, glad to have tried it here. Got the vegan assortment and everything was delicious. You can kind of taste where Indonesia is in the world by recognizing the flavor influences which is cool. My friend got the smoked mackerel and loved it, we'd both recommend this spot.

Not nearly as authentic a rijst tafel as it used to be forty years ago (I know that's a very long time)😂: the current quality is a bit of a joke. An understandible development in the crazy tourist city center of Amsterdam. Service was quick at first , but hard to get hold of later on. No tap water available. (On a warm day in August)

Excellent and authentic Indonesian food, the best I've ever eaten for a fair price. Highly recommended.

We had a good variety of dishes starting with a soup, fried dumplings, veggies, rendang dishes, and of course some desserts. All very yummy!

👍👍 The perfect place to enjoy high-quality seafood at a reasonable price. Was surprised to see this large restaurant buzzing at 5pm (both inside and outside!) but after seeing the fresh fish on display and trying the sashimi which just melts in the mouth I understood why. The staff were also very well-...
