The staff demanded service fee and said it was mandatory to give them, but in the netherlands there are no such a thing called a mandatory service fee in restaurant. We are not in USA. Staff were unfriendly, slow and pretended like didn’t hear us. I don’t think that this kind of service really deserves for a service fee, not to mention that 1. Oriental city is not a Michelin restaurant and 2. the service was almost non-existent. Ps. they will respond to bad comments and advise people to contact them but they won’t answer at all to the emails. So they want to give an impression that they care about customers opinion and want to solve problem but actually they don’t care at all.

Fantastic place right in the city center. We arrived without a reservation and were seated in a reasonable time. The food was delicious - all the flavors and textures were on point. Food arrived pipping hot and we were able to enjoy a superb service throughout our meal. Will definitely be back and recommend it to everyone who is looking for an authentic Chinese meal in a perfect atmosphere.

Good food, but slightly pricy. First time coming here for dinner. Usually I get dim sum for lunch. The food is good and flavours are good. For true Chinese food you should come here. It is slightly pricy but the amount of food you get off-sets it. So you won’t go home hungry! Service is quick but be aware that whatever you order will come to the table when it’s ready. Dimsum is amazing! So you might just want to taste everything.

The food is fine, and it's really authentic, but the waitress is asking for tips, which sounds ridiculous. I mean, I don't mind giving tips if they do provide friendly service but the server didn't show friendliness and still asked for tips like pushing me to offer, is that because I'm Chinsese? I don't know.if other people have similar experience

Late lunch on August 11, 2021, the restaurant was jam-packed and yet the service was fast and friendly. The dim sum was some of the very best I've had: prawn balls, marinated jellyfish with pork hock, deep-fried tofu skin stuffed with Chinese mushrooms, etc. Absolutely memorable. Considering that it's right in the centre of Amsterdam, it's not even expensive. I as a Chinese am very impressed!!!

Oriental City in Amsterdam is an exquisite Chinese restaurant that has truly made its mark. I am delighted to award it a well-deserved five-star rating. The restaurant's ambiance is a true highlight, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. It exudes a sense of warmth and sophistication, making it an ideal choice for special occasions or celebratory meals. The tasteful interior decor adds to the overall charm and makes dining here a pleasure. The menu at Oriental City is a culinary journey through Chinese cuisine. It offers a diverse selection of dishes that cater to various palates. The food not only tastes exceptional but is also beautifully presented. Whether you're in the mood for traditional Chinese favorites or more unique, chef-inspired creations, the menu is sure to delight. The service at Oriental City is commendable. The staff is both friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall dining experience. They are well-versed in the menu offerings and are more than happy to provide recommendations. One aspect to consider is the pricing, as it falls on the higher end. However, it's justified by the quality of the food and the upscale dining setting. In summary, Oriental City in Amsterdam offers an outstanding Chinese dining experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression. Whether you're planning a special evening out or simply craving authentic Chinese cuisine, this restaurant is an excellent choice.

Opened in 1973, Cantonese restaurant Oriental City is Amsterdam's most renowned hotspot for dim sum, the popular Chinese cuisine consisting of a generous variety of sweet and savoury bite size dishes, mostly served at lunchtime and in the afternoon. Located on the first floor, the restaurant has magnificent views of Oudezijds Voorburgwal canal and the hectic Oude Doelenstraat with its myriad of tourist shops, restaurants and cafés. Due to Oriental City's popularity, getting a window seat is isn't  always easy, unless reserved in advance. Depending on the amount of dishes ordered,  these are served three or four at a time, covering the entire table. As soon as there's more space, these are followed up with additional delicacies. Popular dim sum items include shrimp dumplings (har gow), pork dumplings (siu mai), barbecue pork buns (char siu bao), and egg tarts. There's no need to worry about consuming all of what's on offer as the friendly and helpful staff will happily prepare a 'doggie' bag with anything left remaining. Oriental City also offers an extensive  Cantonese a la carte menu with a mouth watering selection of  roast duck, meat, fish and vegetarian options.

Atmosphere: fast-food Fast service: 5/5 Friendly service: 3/5 Tasty food: 3/5 Value for money: 4/5 I struggle with the atmosphere of the place: the interior is oriental, but disinterested staff does nothing to make the place seem warm and inviting. If you like fast-food style eating (you want to get your food fast and don't care much about the experience) this could be a good place for you as food is served very quickly. While you wait, if you're seated next to the window, you can observe bustling Amsterdam life. We had an average food experience: dim sums were hard to take apart from each other, and started falling apart as we tried to eat. Crispy duck, on the other hand, was tasty. I could return for bubble tea with brown sugar... to-go.

Steamed or fried, baked or boiled, you have it all on the dim sum menu! And it’s delicious! And if you don’t like dim sum, don’t worry! There are other dishes to enchant your taste buds! But be aware! You might want to reserve a table upfront if you don’t want to queue for it!

I recently dined at Oriental City Amsterdam, a Cantonese restaurant nestled in the heart of Amsterdam. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with traditional Chinese decor that adds an authentic touch to the dining experience. The staff provided exceptional service, making us feel right at home. About the food! The menu boasts an impressive selection of Cantonese dishes, each prepared with care and attention to detail. The flavors were rich, and the ingredients fresh, showcasing the culinary expertise of the chefs.I highly recommend starting with the dim sum; it's a delightful array of dumplings and buns that will tantalize your taste buds. For the main course, the Peking duck was a standout – perfectly crispy skin and succulent meat served with all the traditional accompaniments. The portion sizes were generous, and the pricing was reasonable considering the quality of the dishes. Whether you're a fan of classic Cantonese cuisine or looking to explore new flavors, this is a must-visit in Amsterdam. If you're craving authentic Cantonese flavors in a cozy setting with top-notch service, look no further than Oriental City. It's a culinary journey that will leave you satisfied and eager to return for more. Kudos to the entire team for creating such a memorable dining experience!

My first time having Cantonese Dim Sums and it was amazing. My friend from Hong Kong brought me to the restaurant suggested by his father. He himself grew up eating Dim Sums has said it is very traditional. He mentioned some dishes we loved were even better than the ones he had in Hong Kong. It was a great first experience and I would definitely visit this place from time to time.

Finally got a table after a long time waiting. Actually been here the previous day but i was told not possible to get a table before 15:30…food was great and in good portions. I was kind of pushed to give a tip. Wasn’t a big deal if the service was satisfying…

It was quite crowded on the weekend. They had good choices of Dim Sum with reasonable price (compared to the size). Staff were friendly and helpful.

This restaurant is definitely my favorite Chinese restaurant. Everytime I’m craving for Chinese food or want to have a nice dinner with my friends I will come here. The interior décor seamlessly combines traditional elements with modern flair, creating a visually stunning setting that transports diners to the bustling streets of Canton. Elegant lanterns cast a soft glow over rich wooden furnishings, while subtle accents of red and gold evoke a sense of opulence and warmth. But it's not just the décor that captivates – the true star of the show is the authentic Cantonese cuisine served with impeccable finesse. Each dish is a masterpiece crafted with precision and passion, honoring centuries-old culinary traditions while embracing contemporary influences. From delicate dim sum to succulent roasted meats and fragrant seafood delicacies, every bite is a symphony of flavors that dance on the palate. The

Every time my boyfriend and I want to eat Cantonese food, our first choice is Oriental City. The location is good, the decoration is good, and the food is good, served with a level of hospitality that makes every visit memorable. What I must recommend is the water chestnut cake*马蹄糕). It was so delicious! It was crunchy and sweet, and I lingered on it for a long time after I got home. The spring roll is also a must-try, it’s really a surprise. I order two portions each time...... Believe me, I have never had better spring rolls than this. They are, without exaggeration, a crispy parcel of joy. In addition, chicken feet with black bean sauce, pork ribs with black bean sauce, shrimp dumplings, rice rolls, siomai and steamed cakes are my must-order dishes every time. The dry-fried beef river passed the mark and was delicious, but I couldn’t tell the difference between the ones in every Cantonese restaurant. I also ordered a beef louver which had no taste and is not recommended. I have to give it five stars!

A Chinese restaurant famous for the dim sums so we came try it out. As a Cantonese I was kind of disappointed cuz the dishes were mediocre. But it’s ok to eat there when you crave for some dim sums. The squid cakes are really good though.

The food was good. Very authenic Cantonese style dim sum. The service we experienced was a bit messy. We ordered shrimp dumpling and we got siomai😅 Later they told me that they made a mistake to take food from the other table to ours. The food still taste good, so it is a 4.

Every time I crave dim sum, I always come to Hai Cheng Restaurant. Only those who have tasted it know, my friends and family! 🤤 First off, the must-order dishes are the spare ribs in black bean sauce and the chicken feet in black bean sauce! The ribs are tender and flavorful, while the chicken feet are soft and irresistible; you just can't stop at one. Especially the steamed ribs with taro, the layered texture is amazing, and it's not greasy at all. This time, I also tried the water chestnut cake recommended by my Guangdong friends, and it was amazing! The crispy sweetness of the water chestnut perfectly combines with the soft and glutinous cake. Personally, I think it tastes even better when it's cold. I highly recommend everyone to try it! 😋 The only regret is forgetting to order the black gold lava buns, but I'll make sure to get them next time! To my friends in Amsterdam, if you love dim sum, you must try Hai Cheng Restaurant. They will definitely not disappoint you! 👏👏👏

Went with friends and tried the distinctive Cantonese dim sum here! A whole new way to experience dim sum, each dish beautifully presented, and you can try a variety of them. Absolutely delicious, especially the steamed shrimp dumplings, siu mai, and the stir-fried beef noodles. The location is super convenient, just a short walk from the central station and close to Chinatown. Highly recommended for a flavorful adventure!

The best asian restaurant in Amsterdam that I have been to. Their menu offers a variety of options regarding Chinese cuisine. I ate there for lunch, so we had dim sum. The restaurant is located 100 m from Dam Square, so if you have the chance I definitely recommend to try their dim sum. Also very affordable for a restaurant located in the city centre

Amazing Dim Sum, we just ordered two dishes to go. But they were soo delicious. The price was a little bit high for the Dim Sum, but I would visit the place again, because the food tasted so good. Already missing it. When you have the chance to visit Amsterdam, try to put this on your bucket list.

A great dim sum restaurant right in the center of Amsterdam. I was recommended this restaurant by an asian shop owner while traveling through Amsterdam, and I am so glad I followed their recommendation to come here for a late night dim sum dinner. All the dim sum dishes I ordered tasted freshly made with a very traditional and authentic style and taste. All the dim sum staples were fantastic and definitely hit the craving I was feeling. The waitresses speak dutch, english, mandarin, and cantonese, which made my dim sum experience very familiar since I could order and ask for things in cantonese. Highly recommend trying the red steamed prawn rolls; the combination of pork and shrimp with the crispy wonton skin inside the softer rice paper was an amazing novel experience.

The atmosphere was good. Get the fried pork dumplings. They were the best. However, skip the soup dumplings. They were alright. It is a very large restaurant. Skip on the bao if u do not like barbecue sauce. Otherwise they are very soft to the touch and good to the taste.

Very friendly service, we had to wait very long for our food. They brought The main course and 15 minutes later the main course of my partner, they also forgot my fried rice. The food tasted bad and was poor quality. The table was damaged because its all very old. The carpet was so dirty and disgusting 🤢. We were very disappointed. Oh and very expensive for this kind of bad quality food! Never again.

One of the best dim sum experience I have had (and I've been to a lot of dim sum / tea parlor lol). The congee was very authentic. Shiu mai and chicken feet are absolutely delicious. The cucumber appetizer is a bit too flavorful for my taste but I can see many others would love it. Great ambience, nice service, wonderful view. Strongly recommend!

Come here two days in a row! Both dishes and dim sum are very delicious, and the environment is traditional style. Wanted to order crispy pig but the dish needs reservation. Definitely will come next time cause the restaurant deserves😋

One of the best Cantonese restaurants I've ever been too. We got the dimsum soup, dimsum, fried dimsum and corn soup. EVERYTHING we had was delicious! It was the perfect amount of serving and the servers were really nice. If I ever to ever come back, I would get everything we got minus the fried dimsum. Personally we enjoyed the steamed ones better than fried ones. Anyways, I HIGHLY recommend everyone come to this place. You won't regret it!

We visit the restaurant without reservation, instead to explain us that there is no space the Staff keep us waiting in front for a long time promising us a table. The waitress named Siam was rude and did not give us any information about the menu. The menu by itself contains so many dishes that we get confused, especially when we are not familiar with the Chinese cuisine. At the end the waiter request a tips like a mandatory rule. The food was nothing special.

Dim sum was huge in size. Fried pork dumplings 窩貼 tasted a little bit weird because of the chives? they added into the meat. Fried rice was not oily. Quite authentic. Beef congee got good texture. Desert was nice. It would have been even better if the mango pudding had been served with condensed milk.

Food was really delicious and portion size was good. Wish there was more chicken and less pineapple in the sweet and sour though. Definitely recommend. Pricey though 💸

Nice place and pretty busy but we were able to get a table without a reservation that had a beautiful view. We were only two people though so recommending to reserve if you are with more people. Dim Sum was good but my favorite was the Beef stir fried noodles. Portions are very generous.

Atmosphere: chain/franchise restaurant Service: 4/5 Tasty food: 3.5/5 Wine menu: 3/5 Value for money: 4/5 Last Saturday we were walking in the Red Light and craving a meat plate. I remembered an Asian friend telling me good things about the Oriental City, so we walked in (although it was already quite late and we didn't even have a reservation). The multi floor restaurant is quite big, if possible I recommend the tables facing the canal, for a better sense of intimacy. The wine list offers a few international wines, all in the quite pricy range and above. The menu is huge, plenty of options of all kind of food. We chose the aromatic crispy duck, that comes in a very big portion and that could easily serve two. Not being aware of it, we also ordered a beef tenderloin (very soft and cooked with green peppers, although not really super tasty I have to say). We enjoyed the duck a lot, and we had a doggy bag prepared for all the leftover we could not finish. The check: 82€ in two, for one main and a glass of white wine each. Average Amsterdam price, maybe a little bit on the high end for a Chinese place.

A lovely restaurant to enjoy Cantonese Dim Sum. There is a grand selection of tasty dishes to choose from, followed by some tasty deserts. It is a very busy and popular restaurant so I would recommend booking your table in advance. The entrance is decorated beautifully, and prepares you for the wonderful food upstairs. If you've never tried Dim Sum, you should start here!
