Opened
in
1973,
Cantonese
restaurant
Oriental
City
is
Amsterdam's
most
renowned
hotspot
for
dim
sum,
the
popular
Chinese
cuisine
consisting
of
a
generous
variety
of
sweet
and
savoury
bite
size
dishes,
mostly
served
at
lunchtime
and
in
the
afternoon.
Located
on
the
first
floor,
the
restaurant
has
magnificent
views
of
Oudezijds
Voorburgwal
canal
and
the
hectic
Oude
Doelenstraat
with
its
myriad
of
tourist
shops,
restaurants
and
cafés.
Due
to
Oriental
City's
popularity,
getting
a
window
seat
is
isn't
always
easy,
unless
reserved
in
advance.
Depending
on
the
amount
of
dishes
ordered,
these
are
served
three
or
four
at
a
time,
covering
the
entire
table.
As
soon
as
there's
more
space,
these
are
followed
up
with
additional
delicacies.
Popular
dim
sum
items
include
shrimp
dumplings
(har
gow),
pork
dumplings
(siu
mai),
barbecue
pork
buns
(char
siu
bao),
and
egg
tarts.
There's
no
need
to
worry
about
consuming
all
of
what's
on
offer
as
the
friendly
and
helpful
staff
will
happily
prepare
a
'doggie'
bag
with
anything
left
remaining.
Oriental
City
also
offers
an
extensive
Cantonese
a
la
carte
menu
with
a
mouth
watering
selection
of
roast
duck,
meat,
fish
and
vegetarian
options.
