Atmosphere: posh Fast service: 3/5 Friendly service: 1/5 Tasty food: 5/5 Value for money: 5/5 Great place for working lunch. The place is visually very appealing, every corner seems to be furnished and decorated in a slightly different style. On a sunny day you can enjoy the terrace. The menu is short so it's relatively easy to decide. The food was very tasty and brunch options were a very good alternative in terms of value for money. What ruined the experience for me was service. The person taking our order was so disinterested that they actually walk away mid through my sentence so I didn't get to order a beverage. Nobody welcomed us, said goodbye to us or even smiled at us.

Great place to relax and have a drink. Amazing service and pleasant atmosphere. You can get a table on the popular waterside terrace and have a great view of the Amstel. Prices are reasonable and you can not miss this spot if you’re visiting Amsterdam.

Located in a former bank on Nieuwe Doelenstraat, between two of Amsterdam's most prestigious hotels - Hotel Doelen and Hotel de L'Europe, Café de Jaren is one of the city's largest cafés. It is a favourite haunt of students from the University of Amsterdam, business people, tourists, and the local community. With high ceilings and spacious seating areas, the cafe is a hive of activity. It offers all day dinning with separate menus for breakfast, lunch, afternoon high tea and evenings, with a wide variety of Dutch and international cuisine. The well stocked bar has an abundance of local and international liqueurs and spirits, together with a great selection of beers, including their own 'homebrew,' "Butcher's Tears," - a refreshing, dry, full, spicy, fruity and hoppy blond beer, inspired by the 18th century Amsterdam beers. Also recommended are their superb seasonal brews. At the rear of this two floor cafe are a magnificent balcony and what is undoubtedly one of the city's finest waterside terraces, offering unrivalled views of Kloveniersburgwal canal and the Amstel river. Payment at Café de Jaren is by card only. Prices are surprisingly reasonable.

Awesome place for a quick respite from a long day of tourism. Located not too far from the big flea market and small thrift stores to pop in and out of. The Cafe de Jaren is clean and modern. Seating out back by the canal or inside. The prices are very decent and the wait staff is friendly and speaks a multitude of different languages. And since it’s in the middle of a large city, parking is at your own risk. Ha!

Cafe de jaren is my go to place in central. I love everything about this place from delicious food to quick service to the grandeur of the place. Shakshuka is the one of the best and must try! Soup is great as welll.

Delightful location and great view, even (or especially?) on a rainy day. Staff were friendly. Food was meh (very tame flavors, even in a Thai curry), although the mint tea was excellent.

Great location, drinks were okay, food was good. Service 1/5. Very understaffed. Waited 30 minutes to order food, probably would have waited longer if I had not flagged down waitress. Waited another 30 minutes until someone checked on us after eating.

Such a beautiful place with a lovely terrace right next to the canal! The house employees were all lovely and kind people, and especially Nikki (hoping that it’s the correct pronunciation) was amazing! It felt amazing to spend time here. The prices are classical Amsterdam range I would say, which you can expect is not cheap, but the food was definitely worth it! Especially the fries! Had the vegan hummus bread and kept dipping the fries to the hummus as well! 👀 They had other vegan options available at the menu also 🧚🏼‍♂️💃🏽🧿

Are you looking for a cafe with view on canals? Well you find it! I loved this place for its position but also for the food so delicious. Absolutely recommended for a brunch or lunch or simply a coffee! But not only the external terrace with the view is amazing but also the interiors, that as interior designer I am, are awesome! 💥

the food was just okay, but the service was great and the seating was comfortable. i love it that the place is clean, unlike most cafes in Amsterdam that feel and look grimy. the view is also spectacular.

Favourite place in Amsterdam! Right in the city centre, you may sit by the canal as well on their terrace. The food options are many and with reasonable prices and the waiting time for the table is not too long. Service is sometimes really bad, but lately they have been improving and we keep coming back! Definitely recommend.

Super location. Wonderful stuff. Delightful vegan menu. I had a lentil soup with the best kimchi ever and homemade hummus sandwich. Just the burger was a little disappointing. But the fried very awesome. Will be there again.

Good spot for gatherings or romantic dinner/lunch. Cafe has views on canals as well. Atmosphere is very cool and modern. Caesar salad and burger tasted good. Prices were accurate.

Nice fries and nice beer with the reasonable price. The floor height is high, that makes the atmosphere so nice. They said this beer is 400-year-old tradition and it’s worth to try😊

A spacious, clean, bright, trendy interior with a casual vibe. The ‘city garden’ at the back is a hidden gem - if you’re lucky, you’ll get a table right ON the water overlooking the canal and lovely Amsterdam architecture. A great place to relax and watch the boats passing by. My goat cheese salad was delicious - vibrant with a great combination of flavours. The service was very friendly and efficient. Honestly, it’s pretty hard not to like this place!

Simply the best! I’ve always loved the atmosphere here. Even if they served the worst food in the world (which they don’t), it would still be my favourite café in the world ❤️ I hadn’t been in Amsterdam in years but couldn’t leave without spending an afternoon here.

I am an American visiting The Netherlands for three weeks. I used to visit Holland a lot on business, and I would always visit Café de Jaren as soon as I got to town for their excellent cappuccino and tomato soup. This time my brother and I stopped in for a quick rest and drink while doing a walking tour of Amsterdam. At 3.30pm the café was quite crowded, but we were able to find a table close the large glass windows overlooking the Amstel River and canal. Canal tour boats pass by constantly, and you can enjoy the scenery as you sit and enjoy your food and beverages. Definitely a great spot to pop into while you are exploring the nearby sites such as Dam Square, The Red Light District, Kalverstraat and the Bloemenmarkt.

I loved this cafe. It provides a very good view of Canal. You can sit either outside or inside as per your wish and weather condition and enjoy your meal. The staff was good and friendly. You can find some options for vegetarian food.

Wanted to like this so much and give a full 5 stars but the service was exceptionally slow and painful. Had to ask multiple people for service every time I wanted anything and ended up waiting 20 mins just to get the bill. No clear idea as to who was looking after the tables and the staff just seemed to be a little lost. It was busy so they could have been understaffed but there were 2-3 staff circling the restaurant floor, just not sure where or what they were doing. I had a toastie for lunch and was OK but nothing special. The outside terrace overlooking the canal looked nice but didn’t see anyone looking after those outside, so be warned you might be forgotten. Such a shame as it is in such a lovely building in a former bank. If you’re not in a hurry this is the place for you.

3 trips to Amsterdam, 3 visits to Cafe de Jaren. Great place for lunch or drinks. Staff super friendly and helpful. The canal side patio seating is very popular, but actually my favourite spot is inside by the open window, with the sun shining and a nice breeze. Highly recommend

Great atmosphere and yummy food. It was so nice sitting outside and seeing other people enjoy sitting outside, even on a chilly day.

Great place to sit, eat and watch the world go by. Make sure you sit at the back by the canal. The tomato soup was sensational!

One of the most beautiful 'stores' in Amsterdam. What a place this is .... Understaffed, first floor closed, expect longer time to get served. Food oke, not special. Would love to make this the most beautiful and best place of 020 ;-) also who has a terrace like this next to the Amstel ...

Very friendly staff. It is really spacious and has a great river view through the ceiling-high windows. Very elegantly decorated. The menu offers dishes for the breakfast as well. Five star for the atmosphere.

👍👍 The perfect place to enjoy high-quality seafood at a reasonable price. Was surprised to see this large restaurant buzzing at 5pm (both inside and outside!) but after seeing the fresh fish on display and trying the sashimi which just melts in the mouth I understood why. The staff were also very well-...
