Very interesting church interior and they occasionally have art installations within. I wish that I had realized the interior tour and tower tour are completely separate! If I did it all over again I might skip this part and just do the tower, although by the time I was there, they were sold out for the tower climb due to limited capacity.

Beautiful church with a vast historical background. The stained glass windows are beautiful! There isn’t too much to do inside, so I would suggest visiting when there is an exhibition going on, to have more to see.

This old church seemed to be abandoned as a church. But it's used creatively as an exhibition hall for new forms of art. Some of their art exhibits are a bit strange and challenging to understand for my less artistic brain. But I do think it's a very good use of space. And more churches should be exploring how to use their space creatively.

The Old Church is currently under renovation. I chose to climb the tower with a guide and some fellow tourists. It was quite informative to learn a bit history of the church and its bell tower, our guide Lukas was quite knowledgeable. You could have a bird’s views of the entire city of Amsterdam from the 34-m platform. The entire city was built in a swamp, so not many high rise or high buildings in and near the city. It was well worth the guided tour! Cheers!

The Kerk is breathtaking, the history and architecture is incredible. The staff at the entrance are friendly and helpful. The audio guides provided are useful to understand the history of areas of the Kerk. The modern art installation on the other hand is jarring, pretentious nonsense, completely misaligned with the grace and beauty of the Kerk.

Beautiful old church, but I'm afraid there isn't a whole lot to see. Once you've stepped inside, you've seen pretty much everything there is to see. They had (a temporary) exhibit that was interesting, but also very limited. Not necessarily a must-see attraction, but might be worth it if you're nearby.

The name of the museum doesn't fit this church in my opinion. It is the oldest building in Amsterdam, as it was built in the 13th century. It was originally a Catholic church but became a Protestant church in the 16th century. The church has beautiful stained glass windows and a room with red glass. There are some important paintings by Dutch masters such as Rembrandt and Bartholomeus van der Helst. There are about 16000 people buried on the floor of the church and there are numbers dedicated to each grave. There is an audio guide in 6 languages that narrates the history of the church and its highlights. The normal entrance price is 13.5€. It is worth a visit but don't expect many rooms or galleries inside.

An experience a little less common, I enjoyed my visit at the Oude Kerk immensely. It's obvious through the (free) audio guided tour that much effort has been put into documenting this important place in Amsterdam history & making this historical information available to all. Perfect for a Sunday museum tour!

This was great! A must see if you love history/art/architecture and are in Amsterdam. I also did the tower which was a great experience. The church itself has markings of family crests all over the floors and some curious artwork inside.

What happened to us is unbelievable and outrageous at this church. Nowhere was said that an exhibition was in progress inside. We simply wanted to visit and see the interior of the church. We used the Ansterdam city card. The unpleasant woman at the entrance told us that because of the exhibition, the price of the visit was more expensive and made us pay 5e more each... What she forgot to mention even though we let her know we wanted to see the inside, is that the exhibition was in almost absolute darkness, some poems being told in the background... So no way to see anything... Very disappointed. Extremely poor communication.

The "Old Church" is the oldest of the main churches in Amsterdam. It stands in De Wallen, right in the Amsterdam's Red Light District - how poetic, right? You may want to climb up the main tower to get some lovely view of the city. It is however a little overpriced and if you don't book in advance, you may find out that it has been already sold out for the day.

BEAUTIFUL church (and contemporary arts center!!). I got a mini-tour by one of the very informed staff members at the entrance desk - learned how the church was previously Catholic, then Protestant as a result of the Reformation. Rembrandt's first wife is buried there, and the church also contains Rembrandt's wedding certificate. After all the ornate, gilded churches I saw in Rome, this was a welcome visual shift. Also, I happened upon this church by accident - had not been on my itinerary but HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Absolutely amazing place, spacious church where you can walk around by yourself enjoying old times and imagining how parishioners had their prayers there. Nice, smiling and helpful staff at the entrance. As mush the church is beautiful itself as weird and inappropriate one can find the exhibitions on the screens and inside the draped rooms. That variety includes dancing hands, talking faces, creepy noises, X-rays pictures on the walls, waxed items laying on the desk. What does it have to do with the building being a church? It is hard to tell. I would definitely recommend to visit, just hope they’ll reconsider the direction the now museum is going.

It's a beautiful old church. I loved the wood maded ceiling. Solid and not ostentatious. Free to visit by Amsterdam City Card.

Beautiful Gothic architecture of The Oude Church impresses. The ceiling of the Oude Kerk is the largest medieval wooden vault in Europe. More than 700 years of history, just imagine how much these walls have seen and heard! Rembrandt himself and his family were parishioners of this Church! Awe seized us with the first sounds of the Magnificent Beautiful Organ. That was an incredible experience !

Must see historical building in heart of red light district...don't let that hold you back from visiting. Recording to listen in various languages. Neat historical facts and info. Did not enjoy the current artistic displays as much as history, but was unique.

Loved visiting this with my parents! Fun fact, this was the first ever building in Amsterdam! Beautiful and full of history. Worth a visit

I was concerned when I first entered that I had wasted my money, but after exploring all the exhibition (about Meredith Monk) I was breathtaken by the whole place. I couldnt get my audio guide to work, but still a 5* beautiful visit. Spent about 90 minutes there.

It is the oldest building in the city. The church is ironically located right in front of the Red Lights District! The church is beautiful, built in the Gothic style. In front of the Oude Kerk church there is a sculpture of a hand grabbing her breast. Which is really provocative

Oude Kerk is the kind of place you'll never forget! Reasonable entry fees. Kinda hard to find the areas with the included audio guide but worth it to wander around. We went here and happened upon an art showing, we ended up staying for hours! Good times :)

Definitely worth a quick visit! All those picture-perfect pillars and funky different building styles, made over hundreds of years, are fun to look at. Plus walking on the floor, lumpy from all the decorated burial chambers, is an experience too. So amazing to walk through and remember the history! I visited as part of tour guide Rick Steves free "Red Light District" audio - do a search online to download it!

Current exhibition(okt 2020) underwhelming but still worth to see the beautiful building and its many fascinating architectural and historical details.

Beautiful gothic cathedral restored mostly to it's original look

Steeped in so much history… it is THE oldest building in all of Amsterdam. It’s an interesting window into the past. Oh, if the walls could talk… Highly recommended…

  • 5/5 Ivy A. 1 year ago on Google
Really really enjoyed the experience here! Well integrated audio guide at no extra cost (there is an entrance fee but the guide isn't more money on top of that). The building itself is really impressive and feels fairly unique in many ways even if you've toured a lot of churches. The organ is beautiful and I love that they collaborate with modern artists for installations to connect the history to the modern day. Felt like a very well run institution.

When you look at this Beautiful Church you will imagine the atmosphere of it's architectural style and how they built it at that time. (10/10) it's a great place to visit!

Magnificent Protestant church, located in the Red Light District. Admission is expensive (€ 15) but the architecture is beautiful. She is 700 years old!

We were doubting wether to enter or not, but so pleased we did. It is a calming location, with free audio guide (tickets are 14euros..). There was a art expo which was mind intriguing. You should visit!

Wonderful place. Balanced mixture of contemporary art and historical information

Interesting, but not worth 12€ in my opinion. I have went in because I had a Museumkaart. If I had to pick 3-5 places to visit in Amsterdam, not sure de Oude Kerk would be one of them. Still, it is a beautiful place, especially the staines glass windows.

  • 3/5 Daniel V. 2 years ago on Google
They play this wordless chant music through these strange modern glass lanterns hanging everywhere, which aesthetically do not fit at all, are so low you risk banging into them, and the music is incredibly annoying. Also the interior is very sparse and odd, doesn't really feel like it's used as a church. But the organ is beautiful. Same with the wooden ceiling

  • 3/5 Tom H. 2 years ago on Google
Impressive church. Entrance fee seems a bit steep as there is not much to do inside

  • 5/5 David C. 2 years ago on Google
Very interesting and historical church. The accepellas singing really set the mood for a very somber and reflective time. Don't rush. Take time to sit, look around at the details of the architecture and listen.

Great. Always nice to visit this beautiful monument. It’s in a vibrant area of town, and shines in special light night and day — the Red Light District is just meters away, so for any tourists visiting beware of a lot of people of a younger crowd strolling the area.

Such a beautiful architecture ! and interesting cultural events (witnessed Susan Philipsz's "The Fall" ... OMG Goosebumps !!!)

  • 4/5 Jana S. 2 years ago on Google
It’s magnificent both from the outside and inside. You can see the original wooden ceilings inside the church but I wouldn’t pay the entrance fee again, I think it was not worth it. The church is rather empty.
