Spectacular. Celebrated our anniversary here, they turned down our beds with a little surprise to it. Breakfast was wonderful as well. Service was simply impeccable, top notch service. Staff were friendly and always greets us with a smile when we return to the hotel. Hotel was nice and quiet, very nicely decorated as well. Highly recommend this stay, would definitely come back again. Such a pleasure to be able to stay here for 4 nights

Old, tired, in need of restoration, and understaffed. The hotel must have been stunning in 1866 when it was built. Today, it feels sad. The room seem like it hadn’t been touched since the 1980’s. —Drapes don’t close—so light comes in, —The couch looks like one that was in my college dorm—my wife suggested we put a towel down to sit on it. No joke, —I would recommend slippers for walking in the room as the rug in our suite looked filthy. We rolled it up and put it under the couch —1980s heat/ac system so you have to guess at the temperature settings by how far to set it in the blue or red — To say something positive, the sheets and towels are crisp and clean. Staffing: I feel sorry for the staff. They are very nice and try hard, but the hotel is thinly staffed —we called to confirm our reservation a day ahead. Had to call three times as no one answered. On third call we let it ring 10+ minutes. They answered and said “they is no one to help you, we are very busy”. I hadn’t had this experience before—a precursor to our experience —when we arrived there was no one to help with bags. My wife had to go into the hotel while I waited on the street. (The hotel has a big flight of stairs, and we thought the must have a ramp or luggage entrance—otherwise we would have just brought the luggage in ourselves). She asked the person at the Reception desk if someone could help us. It was late and the hotel was completely empty. He said, “My colleague is very busy, I will do it myself. “ and came from behind the desk to help. (Very nice, but I’ve never seen this before). But only 2 staff for a 200 room hotel? OVERALL: This may have been a 5-Star hotel in the 1990s, it’s definitely not today. I think most of the reviews must be paid for, they can’t be real.

Very disappointing. We wanted to take a drink at the bar. The staff seemed uninterested and kept us waiting. In the end we felt not welcome and left. Very sorry to have made this experience. It’s such a beautiful house in such a great place. I am sure you can do better…

Went here for lunch and it was wonderful. Incredible view, very friendly staff, a warm, quiet (high tea is not, and that room was very loud) and elegant ambiance. The food was very good and reasonably priced for such a high class establishment. Highly recommended.

Duke, David, and Ianos were the best bar hosts you could have. Their professionalism and attention to detail is exemplary in the industry. I 10/10 recommend the Amstel Hotel, and make sure to say hi to the fantastic trio at the bar. 😊

6 years ago we had our Dutch wedding here. I was happy with how things worked out. The food was wonderful! Amazing! They also got along with the wedding planner and her team (and there was no problem at all- which is almost impossible to find when it comes to weddings.) Good service always gets 5 stars. One point is that The rooms can be improved. We went back there a few times for the restaurant and yes absolutely amazing food.

Can’t say enough amazing things about this Intercontinental. Truly felt like a vintage hotel with charming staff and convenient location on the canal. Every thought and need was tended to, from complimentary umbrellas to get around in the rain, to discreet room service, and helpful information about the city and hotel. Definitely want to stay here again someday.

Great hotel, great staff, great location. Probably on the outer limits of where we would want to stay and still be "close to everything" but Amsterdam is such a fun city to walk around in, its a non-issue. Never more than 10-15 minute walk, or quick car ride to anything we wanted to do. The hotel was exceptionally clean, the room was big and had a great river view, and the Amstel bar was a wonderful place for a drink. Can't wait to stay again!

I came for a coffee and dessert and to enjoy the view. The gentleman that led me to my table was lovely. I was seated and attended to by him. I ordered a chocolate mousse and latte from him as I was seated. After I finished my coffee and dessert I wanted another coffee and I kept glancing and smiling at the two female waitresses that were on the floor near me who were attending to my neighbours and was completely brushed off of service more than once. I had much higher expectations from a caliber institution like this place especially considering there were only 4 other tables in the high tea lounge. I placed my empty plate and cup by the edge of my table and nothing for a good while as I waited for it to be cleared and asked if I wanted anything else. I asked for my bill from a distance and no one cleared my table. Very disappointed.

The food that’s served is always top quality. The view on the Amstel from the lounge and restaurant is also a big +. I have not stayed at the hotel yet, so that’s why I’m not rating the rooms. The staff is always very friendly and professional. The hotel itself is very well decorated, especially the lounge looks amazing. It is my favourite part of the hotel because of that and the staff that works there. Most of the times I get served by Juan Carlos, who is always very friendly towards me. I would recommend visiting it!

There are not enough words to describe how incredible this hotel is. From the beauty of the property, to the staff, to the food, to the service - everything is 10/10. The room was extremely spacious, comfortable, and the linens on the bed were changed every single day. The entire hotel is just luxurious and immaculate! The morning breakfast is included with your stay and the food was exceptional. The breakfast is served in the most beautiful room looking over the canal. The staff is also extremely friendly and personable, always looking to take care of any need you have. I will never stay anywhere else when I visit Amsterdam!

I very much enjoyed the splendor of the this hotel. The location along the canal is lovely. You're near the action without feeling the hectic vibe of it all. Service was friendly and impeccable. The restaurant is beautiful and the pool (& area) is gorgeous looking out into the canal. Because the concierge took an interest in our plans we realized we should've pre-purchased our VanGogh museum tickets - he had 2 extra tickets for us and saved the day! Thanks so much. All of the fresh flowers - blue lilies and hydrangeas gave it the special touch of a by-gone era. Our stay was a true delight!

Amazing hotel, so much room and accommodations. The beds are very comfy. They have a pool and a spa. With a workout room. They really know how to take care of you here. I would stay here again. It's very pricey, but nice away from all the Amsterdam tourist chaos.

Nice hotel and conveniently located, you can tell the hotel has history. Food was delicious and the service was 5 star. I will admit that at the beginning that since I didn't look like their typical demographic, I had this feeling that I was being followed every time I walked into the hotel. Other than that, it was perfect.

I had the good fortune to spend six nights here in early October 2021. I could not have been happier with my stay. The room was spacious, well-appointed, and tastefully decorated. Everyone I came in contact with was gracious and friendly. The breakfast was amazing! Great location. I highly recommend this property.

Outstanding hotel in the classical style. Elegant and beautiful, highly recommended. The staff are fantastic, mind readers in anticipating your needs. The restaurants are also very high quality. Many rooms have canal views.

Went there for a lunch and I loved the interior design, the view and the friendliness of the staff. Amazing attention to the details everywhere. The menu has limited options in terms of dishes, but everything we ordered felt fresh. Overall a very nice experience, I will definitely come back in the summer time.

I went to Amstel Hotel to take a short break from a long long time of working, and I'm glad i chose this hotel. It was pretty quiet so at one point there barely was anyone near the spa area, i loved the showers with different settings and the massage was great! Such lovely people. I love how the swimming pool glittered as well, and the statue near the pool was lovely too. The sweet potato fries were probably the best sweet potato fries i've ever had (and i've tried them at many places), unfortunately i couldn't finish them because i was quite full. The only critique i have is that there was no full body mirror in the hotel room, this made it hard for me to check my outfit. Also the staff is so nice! I love the people they choose to hire there. I could probably go on forever, there's just so much to love about this place and Samuel Sarphati was right, this felt like a home away from home.

We were shocked upon entering the hotel because no one greeted us and we had to carry our luggage ourselves. Your staff is very uninterested, the menus are very limited, we were completely hungry at the hotel. We asked for alternatives at the restaurant but no one was helpful. Your room service menu and your restaurant menu were the same, it was really a joke, it can't be such a 5 star...It was our first time in Amsterdam and we had a terrible experience, so we moved to another hotel. We will never choose you again. There are too many things missing from the hotel.

Okay, but not what you would expect from a 5-star hotel with this status and history. First, when arriving at the hotel, there was no one available to take our bags. Then, after check-in, the room we were provided was not as advertised. The room was on the top floor on the north-east corner, but was considered by the hotel to have 'river view'. Also, due to it being on the top floor, the only windows were dormers, which had a very low height compared to floor level, and therefore whilst standing, you could only look at the street below. Thirdly, the room did not have the 'separate seating area' advertised on the website. There was a chair like in any room, but no couch or seating are as you would expect from a suite. We took the three-course menu as dinner. Which taste-wise was fine, but was really awkward as it was a 'surprise menu', where for mains, I was served something that could be called a main course, but my fiance was served a side-dish. The waiter assured us that this was as they intended it and was correct and we had to share. Finally, when ordering room service for breakfeast, the person delivering our order had everything on a trolly, but due to the room being behind a stairs from the main hallway, he had to walk back and forth between the trolley and our room to serve the breakfast. This made the whole room service experience very awkward, as we were not dressed (obviously) and the whole walking back and forth took something like 5-10 minutes.

Finally a spacious and well-sized room in Amsterdam with quiet but efficient air conditioning. Perfectly located, a short metro ride into town but also far enough from the mess that central Amsterdam can be. The hotel is gorgeously kept and the housekeeping service is excellent. The pool was heaven-sent during the heatwave days. Don’t want to stay anywhere else in Amsterdam in the future.

Fantastic place to stay. The hotel is full of old architecture characters, the view of the channel, and the location of the hotel is just amazing. All the staffs are so friendly, helpful and very professional. Peter is just the best. Their service level is just so top notch

Went to the Amstel Hotel restaurant with my best friend to have dinner. We had a window view table overseeing the Amstel river. The view was majestic. We had a 3-course menu with wine pairing. The food and the wine selections were superb. Lastly, I would like to thank the gentlemen who served us, Ted and George, for the unforgettable dining experience. I would absolutely love to visit again soon.
