Clean, spacious hostel, staff that were very pleasant and more than helpful no matter what my query was. Food is good Location is good near to everything and transport options only 2-5 mins away. I will be back

The employees couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. The people who work here are a true asset to StayOkay The room/bed however hadn’t been cleaned as there was trash under my pillow. I also woke up with bug bites every morning on my hands, ankles, back and arms - I’m confident this was due to bedbugs from the StayOkay Oost hostel bed I was assigned. I also saw mice frequently in the night time around the lobby area, which is also a bar/kitchen. Stayokay Oost is a great place to stay, I would stay again if the cleaning and bug issue improves. I feel like the price of the accommodation did not reflect my stay, as it was too expensive for a hostel - for the price I wouldn’t expect cleaning issues, to make my own bed or to come away with bedbug bites.

In general, the place is pleasant, but I would add three points for improvement. The overall lighting in the room is dim, it could be improved. Breakfast is too modest for the price paid. And we had a problem with the service of one of the girls who works at the bar, our credit card, for some reason, did not pass at the bar, only at the reception, and she was very impatient with that. She also had little cordiality in helping us choose things, even because of the difficulty in communicating the languages. But it was just that person in particular, all the rest of the service was very good.

Really perfect hostel. Clean, comfortable, friendly staff, clear information, open all the time, plenty of space to chill and relax as well as socialise, some good games in the sofa area. Big rooms and hallways, clean and stylish. The bar had good food and drink options at decent prices. The beds were comfortable and bathrooms decent. Honestly a perfect hostel experience. I gave location a 4/5 but honestly it's a 5/5 as long as you are competent at using Google maps to get you the right bus/tram to take you home, or book an uber after 1am. If you are not good at navigating, get yourself somewhere in the city centre as this one is like 20 min out from the centre and the museums, but that makes for a cuter and safer local neighbourhood.

Decent hostel. We had a twin room, comfy beds, clean. As hostels go pretty nice. But bar and cafe service very random. Advertised snacks till 12mnbut often stopped service much earlier. No where to get, or make a hot drink between 12 and 8am. Reception staff= great . Bar staff just OK.

Very clean and efficient, they don't care how much breakfast you eat or how much you take with you so fill up your lunchbox as well! The meals at dinner are nice and good value, the bar even has a happy hour so you can get drunk twice as fast as normal with random Germans you just met! Watch out for the Turkish guy who tries to attack you when you hire the pool table 5 minutes before closing and then have the audacity to want to finish playing your game of pool! And don't let the dodgy taxi drivers rip you off by turning on the meter before you have even left, if they get aggressive just tell them you will get another taxi and they will reset that meter!

The Goat of youth hostels, clean, friendly staff, just not a big fan of the no alcohol rule, had to drink my white wine in a public park, but then again I came back to a great hostel which was well worth the price, all the haters have their heads up their you-know-where’s if I may say so myself.

Nice, clean hostel, with different room types for groups. Very friendly reception. We had 2 rooms for our group of 8. Small, bunk beds, clean, high ceiling, clean air, bring your own towel or get one from the reception. Good location at walking and cycling distance from all the right place.

Super clean and comfortable hostel. I stayed in both a private double room and a six bed dorm and each was clean and well appointed. The downstairs bar and lounge is comfortable and the breakfast is simple but sufficient. The staff was really helpful and helped us get situated with public transit etc. The location is in a lovely neighborhood not far from the center. I would definitely stay here again.

We just had the best time in Amsterdam. We loved our private room and bathroom and felt really welcome in the Hostel. All the people working there were extremely nice and helped in any way possible! We would always come back. Thanks a lot :)

Great modern spot for backpackers and people on a budget. It's a little bit out of the centre but you can rent a bike right in front of the hostel and you'll be in the centre in 15 minutes. They have a cafe on the ground floor where we got our coffee each day before going to the city. Overall a very pleasant stay. I would recommend a group of friends booking one room for themselves. We were in a 6 bed room and we barely saw anyone.

Very old corridors and old beds inside rooms, the stair of beds is such noisy that each time the person use it,make the others wake up ,in specially who is sleeping in lower bed.

Amazing place, very clean! The bedsheets have a nicd quality and the bathroom were frequently cleaned during the days. A little negative point: In my room they use big boxes downside the beds and this boxes had a big noise to open and close it. During the night, was inconvenient open that to take the luggage

I had a short but wonderful stay at this hostel. Everything went smoothly during my 3-day visit. The reception was excellent, and the staff was incredibly attentive and friendly. The room was super clean, and daily cleaning maintenance was a nice touch. The hostel offers a spacious environment with some great in-house activities. Highly recommended!

Pretty fair for what you pay, there’s not much in the room other than what 6 people need: a bathroom, two showers, and a lockable box for each bed. Towels are not included but you can buy them at the reception for more than a fair price. The staff is very kind and the location is good too, recommended to all budget travelers and students

Horrible hostel experience, sleeping on the train would've been better. We were a party of 3 and got the room of 6 to share. The room was extremely stuffy and hot, I felt like I couldn’t breathe in there. The pillow was so wore out and clumpy that rolling up my jacket to sleep on was more comfortable. The hallway to the rooms was somehow smokey and stinked like a dirty back alley. Staff was rude and had no communication with us. The WC smelled funky upon arrival. No amenities whatsoever despite the price. I can't believe this place is highly rated... gave location 3 stars for being not far from city center and the lobby area was not bad. I pretty much never give a 1 star review, I hate to do it, but please do yourself a favor and don't stay there

I went to Amsterdam alone for three nights and I only met one group of friendly people at this hostel. The facilities were clean and there was a lot of space in the common area and bar. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The beds however were not comfortable and the breakfast food lacked variety and taste. The lockers in the rooms were so small. Not much was going on at the location around the hostel but you could take a 10-15 minute ride on the tram into the city center where things were more lively. I would recommend to stay here but rather with friends than going solo.

I knew the area from when I lived in Amsterdam, so I specifically selected it for the beautiful neighbourhood in the East. Close to the daily markets, some lovely bars and restaurants and only 15 minutes away from the centre on bike. The people at the reception were very kind and explained everything at check-in and gave us the bike information we needed. It was a private room, so size and lockers inside were acceptable. Hot water throughout the day. I would make the heating stronger though! Overall great experience and would stay again.

Really nice hostel. This is ideal for young people who want to enjoy Amsterdam for a weekend. Communal areas include a bar area with sofas, pool table and some other games. They also offer a buffet for breakfast but personally I thought it was quite expensive (9 euros) so I didn't try it. Nice location to get to the city center by tram.

An amazing hostel, clean and big rooms, with private shower per room. The common area it's the perfect place to have a coffee or a drink and work and relax. The only problem here its the really small locker, only for a medium/small bagpack and you need your own padlock.

Horrible experience. For 50€ a night save some money and get a better place. I had paid for 3 beds which was a waste of money. Staff was not the kindest and not very helpful, felt very unwelcome/ uncomfortable. They had you put sheets on the beds (we never got told that at check in) and the room was very hot and stuffy. Restrooms smelled like rotten cheese (no towels available have to rent). Light was broken on my bunk bed and charging ports kept falling out due to being lose. Rooms and beds where dirty and did not smell clean. Impossible to sleep when you can hear every sound and foot step. To top it went to bar to get a drink and the bartender was rude and not very personable. Customer service should be number one in the hotel world. One plus is the location nice area away from crowds and beautiful place.

In a good but quiet position for those who want to visit Amsterdam Center. The beds are a bit small if you are used to big beds, but unless you plan to stay there for more than 10 days it wont be a problem. Overall very good compared to its price, would definitely recommend, especially for young people.

Overall the hostel is excellent and I really liked that the bathrooms are inside the rooms. Everything very well organized, clean and in 20 minutes on the 22 bus I was already in the center. I really like using public transport to look around and transport in Amsterdam is fantastic. The only thing I didn't like was that there was no place to cook, since the idea of staying at the hostel is to save money and Amsterdam is very expensive to eat. Other than that, if I'm back in town I'll stay at Stayokay again. Thanks for everything.

I did not have a good experience with your hostal. First of all, the heater never worked, I stayed three nights and complained two times about it without getting a solution. The room was colder than outside. The breakfast and installations were good. But I won't recommend this place to anyone, because people at the reception blamed me about not knowing how to use the heater (seriously I live in Denmark), and until the own staff checked the room the last day, they realized I was right but didn't have a concrete solution.

We had a great short stay in Amsterdam and Stayokay! Ad a big group, we had two rooms for ourselves with all the needed facilities. The common areas are cosy, there are board games and a pool table in case you have some spare time. The staff is friendly and ready to give recommendations on where to go/what to do in the city. I would definitely recommend :)

The window to our private comfort room was left open by the cleaner or previous guests. Due to a late flight, we did not check in until close to midnight. The room was absolutely freezing when we arrived and the radiator did not heat up adequately, leaving us very cold for the night. When we brought this to the attention of the front desk staff the next morning, they sent another staff member to check the radiator. He said it was broken and would file a report. The radiator would not turn on at all the next night and because the windows are single-pane, it still gets cold at night in the room. When we enquired about it the next day, the front desk had no reports about it and sent yet another person to look at the radiator. They claimed it was working and would heat up while we were out for the day. However, we stuck around and after an hour it still had not heated up. When we went back downstairs and reported it to the front desk, they said someone would look at it again while we were out for the day. When we returned in the evening, the radiator STILL wasn't working and when we inquired again, they still had no reports about it. They offered a small portable heater and some breakfast as compensation. By that point we had wasted way too much time trying to deal with an issue that we should not have been dealing with in the first place and vowed to stay somewhere else if we're ever in Amsterdam again.

The bathroom and shower could be updated and have somewhere to place soap and shampoo. The toilet didn't have a lid, so the water from the vase spilled all over every time we used it. It was good to have a private room, instead of shared. The building is good and spacious. The common area is great, with pool table, board games and a bar. The carpet on the hallways are a bit smelly though. You need to take your own sheets and towels out of the room on check-out.

Stayokay is a hostel which exceeded my expectations. Rooms were spacious and very clean. Spartan, as you would expect but perfect for our stay of two nights. Breakfast was great value for money with everything fresh. The hostel is in a converted school with high ceiling and such a great vibe. Will stay there again next time in amsterdam!

Stayed here for 3 weeks with 40+ students. The location is great and the lobby is really big and open so it is a great space to hang out and do work. However, we had some pretty big issues there. Some of the students stayed in rooms with bed bugs. I saw multiple mice in the hostel lobby (and one in the cafeteria). The elevators were constantly breaking and people kept getting stuck in them. There was mold in some of the showers. Additionally, there are often large groups of young students staying there so it can be quite noisy (this is not regarding cleanliness or safety, it's more of a preference thing). All in all, I would recommend staying somewhere else!

  • 3/5 Bill O. 7 months ago on Google
Relatively quiet hostel in a laid back part of town. You will need to make the bed yourself. This extra "inconvenience" leads certain hostel guests to not even bother using the sheets at all. After informing an employee of my roommate's lack of hygiene in this regard, they just shrugged and did nothing to sanitize the bunk. This leads me to believe none of the beds are properly cleaned.

Very nice hostel. We had a room for two people with ensuite shower and bathroom. Towels were provided and they came and cleaned every day which we didn’t really expect from a hostel. The common area id very nice. The wifi wasn’t that strong, I could barely stay connected during my meetings. The hostel is located a bit outside the city center but you can reach there with a tram.

  • 5/5 Chris R. 10 months ago on Google
Located only a short tram ride from the centre this is a great spot, it's directly beside a tram line. The reception was very friendly on both check in and check out, the bar area is large with plenty if space to hang out amongst friends or chat with other travellers We travelled in a group of 6 and booked a 6 person room, the room was large and basic but had everything we needed. Everything was very clean. I would recommend here as a good option. There is also food and drink places all within a short walking distance if you want to avoid the centre

  • 4/5 JKR 8 months ago on Google
I loved everything about this hostel aside from the mouse I spotted in the foyer. It's also near public transport but no particularly central. The beds were great though, and having a shower for the room instead of a shared one is an uncommon luxury, though one that should be expected at this price point.

We were 5 friends traveling to Amsterdam and booked the private room for 6 persons. We had an amazing experience in this hostel. The staff is friendly, the room was clean, and the shared areas are really nice. The location is not the best but the prices make this hostel definitely worth-it. I highly recommend.

Cheap and reasonable priced. It's possible to take a nice walk to the city center. No need to take a tram. The room we had was little bit 'industrial', but clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. We spent there some time in January and we were there almost alone, with respect to the number of tourists in the city. Definitely a good choice.

DO NOT STAY. Despite the price (~70 euros per night for a dorm) I decided to give this place a chance; not only was I disappointed by the room for various reasons, but I also ended up finding bugs in my bed that bit me all over my body from the first night I arrived. The staff was rude and dismissive about the issue, and when I told them that I didn’t feel comfortable staying the next night, they told me that a refund was not possible. I had to change rooms at 6am, got absolutely no sleep, only to have them claim that it wasn’t anything to be worried about… I guess to them, rooms having bugs might be normal (the guy at reception literally said “well, that happens when you travel” right after talking badly about me to his coworker). Aside from that, the rooms aren’t anything special. The shower kept switching between cold water and boiling hot not matter how I adjusted it, the toilet splashed all over the ground whenever it was flushed, you receive no towels on arrival, and if you sleep in the top bunk, you are prone to your belongings falling on the person below you because the beds aren’t pushed up against the wall or secured to the ground in any way. To top it all off, the rooms are disgustingly hot cause there is no ac. For what they charge, you can find a lot better. Just cause they have a nice lobby and modern looking facilities doesn’t mean that they get to act like this. I will never be coming back and I highly advise against you doing it either.

A really well-designed modern ground floor where you'll find the front desk, lounge and bar. They also have a nice outdoor seating area which is placed on a quiet street, away from traffic. We stayed in a twin bed + bunk bed room with private shower room and separate toilet. They were on the smaller side but the rest of the room was airy and bright and spacious. Typical hostel beds and bedding etc, but clean and did the job.

I kind of enjoyed staying it was very fun and the rooms are big. Let’s come to the Bad thinks: I found an used needle in my bed. That wasn’t very fun. The windows don’t open, that means that you have to sit and sleep in 28 degrees which wasn’t fun at all anyways the food was good and the stay here was fun.

Great hostel! The staff was nice and arranging. Food was affordable and wifi worked great. One downside is that it's a bit far from the center.

  • 3/5 Julia M. 1 year ago on Google
So, first the negative: the rooms were so hot at night that you couldn‘t get any sleep. the windows are closed and u can‘t really open them to get in some fresh air. the rooms were ok otherwise but really unclean. there was sand in the shower when we arrived and was still there when we left after three days. nasty! Now the postive: the staff is really nice and helpfull. The bar/cafe downstairs has nice drinks and a good vibe. One recommandation for the hostel: offer girls only rooms please! we had a bit of a horror experience with the guys in our rooms. so for savety purposes that would be nice!

Our family of 4 recently stayed in a private family room and had a great time. It was very kid friendly and my children made friends with other kids staying at the hostel. We loved the location -- 1 short tram away from the main train station. The neighborhood was very pleasant -- not touristy with several cafes and restaurants, plus there is a bike rental just next door that has kids bikes. The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful. Best of all, it was very affordable. The only negatives were that the breakfast was a little boring, there was no fridge we could use and the room lighting wasn't great. Regardless, I highly recommend this location for other families.

I loved this place. Big clean warm rooms and modernised hostel. So quiet and peaceful. Every resident was well-behaved and nice and the breakfast food was plentiful and the staff were lovely. The location was great so I could walk into town and explore in half an hour or hop on the tram and get there in 10 minutes. The tram 14 and bus 22 go direct from central station to the hostel. A really professional place, much better than a hotel I think.

The shower is too small to have enough privacy and I believe cleanliness could improve. Might be good if you fill the whole room with known people. Edit: Yeah, but it is too small to put your clothes in and not get them wet. You either get a little wetness on your clothes or come out of the shower a little naked.

Rooms were clean, a great lounge/dining/bar area, and friendly staff. Nice and quiet neighbourhood but still an easy bike/tram away from central. The building is well maintained and has plenty places to chill. Also, private bath/toilet is a plus. Breakfast was pretty good. I didn't have dinner, but it's probably more fun in the city anyway. :)

Rooms were dirty, food was dry and the fruit had mold on it. In the showers there was a lot of hair and it looked like the beds didn't get cleaned as there were boogers, and dirty underwear still in the bed.

This is a great hostel. All the staff were really friendly & helpful. The hostel has a nice chilled feel with good communal spaces. The rooms are basic but comfortable & clean. The breakfast buffet isn't fancy but has everything you'd want & is generous. It's a bit out of the centre but that's a positive thing as it's in an interesting area with good cafes, bars & restaurants nearby. There's a tram stop a few minutes away that goes straight to the centre & the station. Thanks all, we really enjoyed our stay.
