We didn’t know much about the surrounding places when we booked this hotel. And then you find the most expensive street of Amsterdam just next to your Hotel. I mean if you are not super rich, you get to see all those luxury brand stores 😍 I liked that part! And now about the hotel..it’s a decent property with good enough rooms. They have a common area where you can have food. They have the utensils/cutlery for you to use. Also, a refrigerator to keep your stuff. They print the museum tickets and travel tickets (valid for/from Amsterdam)for free in the hotel. Rest print outs are charged nominally. The property also provides Coffee and croissants for 2.50 euros in breakfast. It’s a nice walk outside the restaurant, you’ll find plenty of museums and the tram station too is just outside. Smoking and Drinking inside the hotel is not permitted. We liked our stay there! 🤗

Very bad experience. I booked a room for four nights and the manager told me the reservation was canceled. The manager was a very rude with me and he didn’t give me a solution to the problem. I called to my agency and I told it about my problem with the reservation, and only my agency can fix my problem. The manager didn't know how to fix the problem and it was a real bad experience. I don’t recommend Hotel Van Gogh.

Lovely hotel in a great location. Stayed in one of the shoebox sized single rooms for the Dutch Grand Prix in 2022 and it suited me absolutely perfectly. The room was quite small, but sure you’re only going there to sleep and leave your stuff safe during the day. I’d recommend and would stay there again.

We enjoyed staying here. Great location, reasonable price €140 per night for a triple room. Breakfast want included but given to us free on account that the lift was out of order and we were on the 3rd floor up narrow, windy staircase (typical Amsterdam). Don't expect luxury, and you won't be disappointed. Very functional. Would happily stay here again..if I had to.

Marvelous location: everything you want to see is in a walking-distance. And if you don't want to walk, there is a tram stop right around the corner. The room was clean and spacious and included amenities like: AC, little fridge, hair dryer, coffee machine, ironing board. The only inconvenience was a man at reception desk (wearing glasses). I wouldn't say he was rude but very unfriendly at least. The other man tho was molto carino, so I still give 5/5.

It's cheap, the location is good. But I had Really bad experience. Leaked water and little space. When I tried to refund the Asian guy at the reception was not trying to solve the problems, and it seemed like I was his problem. Very bad service experience. Not recommend

Great location..trams either side of it ..near museums..its a budget hotel so no frills. Rooms are OK.. breakfast is OK.. hot food. Would probably stay again..but a little more effort would make it a great place.

Great hotel for a great price. We stayed there for two concerts in Amsterdam and it was very close to Paradiso and Melkweg. Walking distance or a tram that stops infront of the hotel. It was clean, rooms were big enough for two people and friendly staff! Will definitely come back here!

The Short: subpar staff in an otherwise nice small hotel. The Long: Nice quiet location near the Van Gogh Museum and high end shopping. Breakfast ok but convenient. First night A/C didn't work and safe was left locked by someone previously. Both issues taken care within a day but employees were not enthusiastic about it.

Excellent location, good service, but the students and stag parties that stay here have no concept of quiet hours, shouting and banging loudly even past midnight. It also doesn't help that the walls are thin. The staff should enforce quiet hours. I recommend staying here outside of the usual student travel months if you are just a normal tourist or a family.

We spent 2 nights here in a large 4 bed room. The room was clean, bright and airy. I loved the height of the room, the large window and our balcony! We appreciated the complimentary coffee and toiletries, the fridge was a bonus too. Bathroom and shower really lovely. The male on checkout (morning of 1/10/23) was super helpful, he took our bags, helped us with the bus to the airport, even checking our bus tickets. Location is beautiful, I can’t wait to come back here!

Terrific experience : due to the full lockdown in Netherlands during the Christmas holidays, we had to cancel our family trip in Amsterdam. 3 nights booked in Van Gogh Hotel for almost 1000 euros. We kindly asked for a voucher in order to postpone our trip in April or May 2022, but the management of the hotel refused very strictly and kept our money despite the exceptional situation. Unbelievable, this is the first time since the covid crisis began that an hotel refuse to make any effort, and purely robbed me 1000 euros...

Even though there was a sudden lockdown in Amsterdam (normal to happen in these corona times), the stay at hotel was real good. We got upgraded, got early checkin, were also offered late checkout. They have option to take printouts. I needed it urgently and it was free. And they were quite helpful in finding the places to visit. Location was also good near the museum area and had a nearby tram and bus station. Didn’t have options for breakfast and that’s the only less star. Worth the revisit and recommendation.

READ BEFORE BOOKING: 1. I should’ve read the reviews.. they’re awful and the 5 star reviews have little substance so they likely are just people being nice & not honest, or fake accounts. 2. The hotel only cares about money. It’s clear from the reviews they have tried to scam people, and don’t keep the hotel to standards. For me, it was the fact during a worsening pandemic they refused to even let us change the dates of our stay. They just wanted our money no matter what we tried. It’s Christmas and the new variant has the country shut down yet they couldn’t agree to swap nights? We would’ve stayed there just months from now & been super happy. Instead they insisted on taking the money & quiet honestly, being horrible over email. I will be sure to take the time to review them across all platforms (including my travel companions) to ensure each and every website reflects the poor character and greediness this hotel stands for!

The hotel is good. The Van Gogh Museum is located nearby. The girl at the reception was very kind and gave us a bigger room than we rented. I recommend booking a hotel directly on their website because it will be cheaper. There is a tram station nearby that leads directly to the center.

Stayed in a triple room in mid December for 2 nights. We will definitely return and stay for longer. The gentleman at reception kindly stored a suitcase we did not need as the new elevator was still being installed. He also helped us up to the second floor with our luggage. Check in was easy and smooth. The location is wonderful! About a minute or so to the Van Gogh Museum, the tram taking you towards Dam square and in the opposite direction but same proximity is the street of designer shops. We loved the cafe "Blushing" on the corner. The bathroom was small but had all the amenities we needed. Price was good. We'll be back!

Perfectly situated hotel for the museums and for the tram into town, and the bus to the airport. Rooms clean and beds very cosy. Vending machines in lobby useful! Only complaint was the room we were in (Room 3) was under a very creaky floorboard (we assume it was the landing as people were walking across it all night) but we didn't actually complain at the time as we were only there for 3 nights and didn't want to waste time moving rooms.

Very nice rooms with air conditioning and mini fridge. Good beds. Good size shower with sufficient water pressure. Hotel breakfast doesn't have a big selection but it's decent enough. The breakfast lady is super friendly and smiling all the time, something the man and woman at the reception could learn from. They were very rude, they don't welcome guests, they don't look at guests when talking with them and they don't know how to smile. If the people at the reception were friendlier I would have given 5 stars.

Great location. It is very cozy and clean. Stuff was very nice to us and we booked directly so the price was a lot cheaper. Air conditioner, new bathroom, shampoos, conditioners, caffe, tea,.. everything was great. The small minus was the sound of ventilation but everything else was perfect!

Good location but managed by a poor attitude behavioural front desk staff . Ruined the experience. The guy who attended to me was a Chinese guy who was condescending and unnecessarily strict with check in. My friend booked on behalf, hasn’t arrived at the hotel so I decided to check in on behalf like any other hotels which I did with no problem just by stating my or my friends name in full. He refused to accept the booking details presented and insisted his own authoritative approach which was never experienced in my traveling experiences in checking in the hotel. He insisted an email from the booking person to mention my name in checking in even when I’m able to produce the booking reference by my friend and mentioned my friends chinese name in exact. Even after sending the email he’s still not satisfied citing insufficient details. His condescending tone almost made me felt like he’s being racist towards his own race i.e Chinese. Not the right attitude for a front desk job & especially he sounded impatient as well.

The service at this hotel was a nightmare, I arrived to the hotel at 12 pm 6 hours before my friends, the manager didn’t let me check in until 4, he said that I cannot check because the reservation was on my friend, even though I had the reservation number and pin. He wasn’t nice at all and only when I went to sleep on the couch in the lobby he gave me a room, said he will charge my card and if there will be a problem I want get the money back. Very bad experience because I was tired didn’t sleep for 2 days, and the manager was very rude, and seems like he didn’t want to help at all. I’m updating this review 2 weeks later. I just now see that I was charge for 400 EUR. For no reason!! This hotel needs to be closed. This is going to go through silent and this hotel for sure is going to be sued. I am 21 years old and never in my got a bad service from a hotel like this 400 EUR! Charged 1 and a half months after my stay, which was already paid! Please do not even consider staying at this hotel. Wow I am shocked

The hotel is nice and unpretentious with a very good value for money. We have been there for a bachelor party and we found clean room and nice atmosphere in an amazing position ( few meters from Van Gogh museums supermarkets etc!)

Great location, but hotel is run down with minimal amenities. Staff was indifferent. As a last resort the property is ok, but wouldn't book here again unless no other decent option was available.

Location is perfect. Stayed there in the beginning of the year. The rooms are small but compared to the price it was OK. The only comment I have is on the housekeeping. The cleaning is not that great, the towels and sheets didn’t seem fresh. Also the housekeeper was very rude. The heating system is not reliable, it was OK for us the staff helped us with a portable heater but if someone who gets cold, they will suffer somehow.

The location of the hotel is good and easy to reach by public transportation, unfortunately the elevator was broken which is a really big obstacle and very dangerous considering the floors (4th floor) and stairs. The bedding also had some stains. The breakfast was ok. There are construction sites all over the building and the rooms are very noisy. I told them twice that the hairdryer was not working and that the safe should be opened, unfortunately nothing happened.

(Canadian country-boy) hotel van gogh was ok. It felt a bit more like an upscale hostel than a hotel, but it got most things right. Good things: -a really nice nescaffe machine in the room, and the desk was happy to provide more coffee pods when we ran out! - clean functioning mini fridge - central location to great restaurants and museums, a 2 min walk from the transit station - great shower, lots of pressure and heat Not so good things: -skip the breakfast, for what they are charging you might as well go out to any of the local breakfast spots - weird lumpy pillows - very average bed - kinda dingy, clean, but stained. - it's right next to a nursery school, so at 730 every morning there are 100 little kids directly outside the hotel laughing and screaming and playing.

Early review: the hotel staff are great. The room is spartan but the mattresses are good (passed the bedbug check, memory foam but new so comfortable) and blankets are good, towels as expected but plenty of them -- good bones and in line with price. The location is 5 star for people here for museums. But the trouble (as of November 2023) is the noise, and hallway mess, and lack of elevator due to heavy ongoing construction. Drilling that sounds like jackhammers. It's 3p.m. now and no possible way to use the room at all (forget vacation napping, hard no), heavy drilling. The elevator is out so if you are not 1000% stable to carry your luggage up the stairs, get help. Will update to higher stars if the noise doesn't start until at least 10 a.m., or lower stars if the noise starts early and completely erases the entire idea of catching up rest on vacation.

Location wasn't to bad. But the hotel was dire in much need of paint. Staff were miserable. As for the bed in the room it was bleak. Avoid

We had the same experience as the last reviewer and I would clarify a few things as it seems the hotel was a bit dishonest in their response. They seem to indicate that there is nothing they can do to refund or reschedule your booking when you book through a 3rd party, but Hotels.com must receive approval from the hotel to process a reimbursement/reschedule. Hotel Van Gogh refused to provide a refund or voucher for a future stay because they wanted to keep our money and not provide any service. I understand hotels were hurt during the last lockdown, but its unethical to take so much money without at least trying to reschedule the booking. I feel cheated by this establishment and I can see that I am not alone. Due to the full lockdown in the Netherlands, our connecting flight was canceled and we could not get into the country so we had to cancel our trip which was disappointing enough. Upon calling the hotel, they informed us that we would not receive a refund of any amount of our almost $1000, nor would we be eligible for a voucher to stay in the future. They essentially kept our money without providing any service, which in my eyes, is theft. I recommend you take your business elsewhere, as this is a truly unethical practice during a global crisis.

The location was great and the room was fine. We interacted with three different front desk clerks on our two night stay and one was very rude. He clearly didn't want to be there and certainly didn't want to be helpful.

They decided to charge me a different rate. (+15%) "next time please call us, don't use an app to book" the manager said. I stayed with them in August 2021

Hotel Van Gogh is one of Amsterdam's best kept secrets. It's not a big name hotel but it's equally or even better in terms of appearance, cleanliness, affordability, accessibility, and more. The staff is friendly and helpful. Namely Igor and Federico. The best reason why you should stay in Hotel Van Gogh while in Amsterdam, is it is just a few minutes away from major landmarks such as the Van Gogh Museum (just a few meters away. You can actually see it once you step out of the hotel), Rijks Museum, Stedelijk Museum, Vondelpark, PC Hooftstraat, Hard Rock Cafe Amsterdam, Canal Cruises and a lot more.

Good prices and amazing location. I was here in the holidays with my 16 years old son, for us the hotel has an amazing location really close of the museums with really good communications via S-Bahn. It was really clean and the beds were confortable. I would really recommend this hotel in Amsterdam.

Small hallways but very elegant rooms! Kind staff (mostly). A bit old but perfect size for rooms and lobby. Amazing grass area about 100 meters away. Nice bathroom and cozy rooms, although there is a ventilation that constantly runs and is a little annoying. Very close to all attractions and perfect location.

A clean and friendly Hotel at a wonderfull Location. One Star deduction for the Bed in my Single Room. - it was too small and the mattress was slippery - and that there was no space for a closet. Dutch Breakfast was good.

Amazing hostel at a really convenient location. The receptionist was really friendly and even offered us umbrellas when it started raining. There are dispensers for travel cards and ponchos at the reception. 4 stars for for the rooms only because sharing 1 bathroom with 8 people in a dorm seemed a bit impractical. The dorms themselves were amazing, and when we went, it was not very crowded.

Great value and great location. This is a good hotel for the budget travel that is located close to the great museums of Amsterdam. I chose a single room and it is fine for this solo traveler. During Covid, the breakfast has been suspended. There are vendors, restaurants, and a grocery store nearby.

We had a quadruple room for our family and found it very comfortable and super clean. The location is highly recommended - close to the museums and public transport, Vondel Park and next to a beautiful residential area.

We stayed here in a three-bed room for three nights. The room had a refrigerator and a coffee machine free to use. The room did do its purpose to overnight but not to spend time during daytime. That suited us well, because we visited several museums and walked everywhere. The situation is perfect for an art lover - both the Rijksmuseum and the van Gogh museum are in the neighbourhood and also several other museums. The room was otherwise cleaned well, but we found one sock and some candies under the bed. My daugthers thought also that it was a bit chilly in the room.

POOR CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE! Do NOT rely on them. My flight got cancelled and they charged me for the first night but decided to cancel my booking for the next 4 nights without even informing me and then charged $1000 for my cancelled booking. I was homeless on Easter weekend and had to find another dodgy hostel because they were so incompetent.

It's a nice place to check in and sleep and go. The bed we are in are not to great, they feel like small pads on the bunk beds we have to sleep in, in our room. The front desk clerk is very kind and helpful. Love the scenery all around the walls.

Convenient location and flexible on booking options, nothing exceptional, just a good enough spot for a short trip. Don’t worry about its hostel section, I only knew it has hostel part after I checked out while reading other reviews… When I stayed there even my single room was beside the lift I wasn’t bothered by noise.

Pretty solid hostel for a short stay in Amsterdam. The place is clean, and the staff is friendly, though the place lacks some amenities and the wifi is not the best. Not the best hostel I’ve ever stayed at, but for the price it is one to consider.
