Located near the train station, this hotel is wonderful. The building itself is really old and was preserved nicely (you should definitely take the old elevator with bench). It is a bit more pricey, but you get well equipped rooms, comfy beds, quiet rooms and amazing facilities. You have a heated pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room (well worth a try-especially if you arrive during the week).

Historic, quirky, beautiful. Had a little trouble checking in because they had a big event. They didn't seem to be prepared for us. After we checked in things were great. The manager switched our room so that I could have a view of the canal. The young man who helped us with our bags was delightful, as was the bartender. Would recommend this "shipping company" hotel. 😀

From the moment that I arrived to the property, the staff were ready and willing to assist me. I arrived pretty early and they had a room available for me which I really appreciated! The entire staff was awesome from the front desk receptionists to the housekeeping team. I am very happy that I chose this hotel and it was perfect for me as a solo traveler. Another great thing was the location, the hotel sits right behind everything so you can get good pictures, shop, and eat before returning to the hotel.

Great location for getting around to everything. The NYE rooftop experience was excellent. The room was beautiful and well made up. Peter and Isaac in particular provided amazing service when the key cards to the whole place stopped working and we had to be let into our room by staff for two days. They were also great advocates for us as guests when the manager was repeatedly ‘unavailable’ for discussion of compensation. We were happy that we were able to resolve the issue, and really enjoyed our stay.

The room is beautiful, as is the overall atmosphere of the hotel. Lovely amenities and luxury relaxing. Unfortunately the breakfast lady disturbed the lovely breakfast by saying it was not included and I had to pay right away. The front desk had the right information and it was straightened out.

A nice hotel, got a little lost in the hallways, though. Breakfast was very good. Services are somewhat expensive when compared to the room rate, so I suggest you check before booking (breakfast, room service,..). I would rate the pizza as 8 out of 10, that is, very good. The Caesar salad, on the other hand, rates as 3 out of 10 (the bacon was way too salty). I hope this helps. People were very nice!

I paid 300€ for a single night in the "luxury room" and it was not 300€ worth at all I stayed in room 221 this night, and there were some hair left in the bathroom around the sink, the door of the shower was half broken at the bottom, the bed sheet was too short and went away in the middle of the night and I had my face directly on the mat and the ventilation in the bathroom was very loudy Then I went to the restaurant to eat a deer roll or something like that and it was half frozen and it hurted my teeth a lot Overall I spent almost 400€ and i'm sure I could have had the same experience in another hotel for less than half the price. The only good point was the emplacement and also the charm of that old building in the corridors. I think the hotel has a nice potential but the management is not on point for a 5 star hotel and I won't come there again

We had a terrible experience at Grand Hotel Amrath. First of all we took 15/20 minutes to check in, the two staff at the reception were talking in their own language during the check in time and I think this is unprofessional. They charged us 225€ for each room for the deposit . Then they gave us the keys and they didn’t explain at all where our room were and we took more than 20 minutes to find them. The lift was not working too at the time and we were at the 4th floor.. When we arrived at one of the room, there was a used water on the table and the window handle was broken so we informed the staff straight away. Then we went in the second room, and it was unbelievable. Burn bed board, dirty toilet and in general the room state was appalling, dirty bathrobe as well. We got 1 room upgraded and they gave us a junior suite in the basement. That rooms was even in worst condition (see pics) and we also found some leftover J01NT2!! The next day we talked to manager which upgraded us again to another suite and gave us complimentary breakfast. However the 3rd room also was in a bad state and the heating wasn’t properly working (very low in the room and completely off in the bathroom). Since our breakfast was offered the first day the manager gave us the impression that would have been on them also on the second day but I still had to pay the extortionate 28.50€ for breakfast. The 5 star rating it’s way higher than what it should be (3 stars at best) and the overall condition of the hotel is bad. There is little to no investment in keeping the facilities in a nice way and the staff didn’t seem to surprised about these issues. Not recommended at all!

I loved staying at Grand Hotel Amrath. The hotel is spectacular with every room suite unique. Originally built as a Company head quarters for 6 shipping companies. The staff were very accommodating, today they offered me a mini tour to see some of other magnificent rooms. 5 star all round. I will be back again. Thanks for making my trip memorable.

We went there for dinner on Christmas Night for the first time in 8 or 9 years. This used to be a massive occasion in the Seven Seas Restaurant, which was full to the gunnels with diners in their 'Sunday best', rows of coats on clothes rails, and a pianist playing soft Christmas melodies. Now the echoes of the piano and those diners' footsteps were long gone. Now we were seated at the back of the impressive bar, which the few diners still sitting at their tastefully laid tables by 2030 shared with groups of drinkers. The waiting staff did their best to serve us as of old. The food was very tasty. And we received complementary glasses of excellent champagne and a cheeseboard on the house prepared by the head waiter. A suited, silver-haired gentlemen occasionally swept down the centre aisle dispensing Christmas jollity. We entered sad that so much had changed but left happy after a very good Christmas meal and touched by the efforts of the staff.

Poor customer service Arriving at the hotel, wanted to make the booking and we have been told a different price than they usual charge. Secondly when asking for the closure time of the spa, again something else has been told then what is being claimed on the website. The response from the receptionist: “ yes we know this already for a while, but it has not been changed so yeah, nothing we can do” We came all the way to this hotel and wanted to enjoy their spa facilities, but there is no way we could since they closed so early and we he had no time left. The attitude of the same employee (Ruben/ Robert) was far from customer friendly hence we decided not to stay here and glad we did cause we had a much better stay elsewhere. Avoid this hotel cause there are more hotels that offer better customer service for the same price or even less!

Pretty perfect location to visit Amsterdam. Beautiful building, dating from 1930s. You can eat in the bar if you wish or grab a sly gin and tonic. Room was excellent and, barring a hair dryer, had every convenience (and we could have asked for one and got it but didn't). Checkout was a tad odd because they didn't take the money there and then but said they'd charge the card. I guess we could have asked to see a bill if we'd had any extras, which we hadn't. Oh, and to add that they have a spa area with a gym, warm pool, steam and saunas open till 11pm.

Good location close to all attractions in city center, 5 minutes walk from central station. Old building turning to a five star hotel with very antique decorations and art works. Comfortable room and bed with complete set of amenities including safe, iron, iron table, extra fan, radiator, … (room was equipped with AC but it was not very efficient) I was lucky to have a room with outstanding view of canals, central station and Nicolaas church. I didn’t use pool and spa facilities. BREAKFAST was average for a five star hotel. *** Don’t forget to visit Paternoster lift inside the building which is running on Sundays only.

Remember to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking your stay. They compare thousands of booking websites and typically will have rates a lot cheaper compared to others! Thank me later! This place is the best rated in this area. I have been staying here for a long time. If you stay for a few days you definitely will love it I'm sure! Great Hotel breathing history right in the center of Amsterdam. Fantastic room with 5 meter ceilings and a super comfortable bathtub.

the hotel is very nice but the customer service a little less ... Be careful not to forget anything in the rooms because you will not find your belongings. I'm sure I forgot my jacket in the closet and obviously no trace of it! We have already tried to see with you for this problem but without success. I can't believe this jacket disappeared without several people knowing about it. Because generally the rooms are not made by one person

We stayed at the hotel for a romantic weekend in Amsterdam. The place is a real treat in term of architecture and history. It has a perfect location, a couple of minutes away from downtown, train station and museums. We really enjoyed the welcoming crew, they were really nice and helpful with us. We've also enjoyed the renting bike service. Breakfast is really good and the rooms are perfect, except for the water temperature and pressure, which is a little bit volatile.

Fantastic hotel. A beautiful building with top quality rooms and very comfy beds. The staff are all very nice. Excellent food in the both the bar and restaurant. There’s even a luxury health suite in the basement! Definitely the place to stay and spoil yourself in Amsterdam. J

Highly recommend this hotel! Only stayed for a night, wish we stayed longer as the facilities are great; swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna. The bedroom is very clean, spacious and comfortable. It is also in the middle of the centre, everything was walkable.

A really fascinating building with history and fascinating architecture. High ceilinged rooms with comfy beds. The staff are very friendly and helpful but will change your towels every day. The gym in the basement is basic but enough for a basic workout, the little pool, spa and sauna are decent for a relaxing couple of hours away from the noise of the street. Breakfast isn't worth the extra £25 though. There are other options within a 5-10 minute walk. Otherwise a pleasant stay.

Rooms were good for what you pay for, water and stroopwafel top up every day is a nice addition, didn’t really encounter staff much so not much to say on service however when lost a kind member showed me to the gym and pool facilities which was in another building which can be quite confusing. The steps down to the gym and pool is very steep so be careful. Location can’t get any better right by everything and train station only minutes away.

Hello, I would really like to compliment you all for the remarkable service we received when we stayed at your beautiful hotel. We were a group of 5 people from Sweden, and one of us was in a wheelchair. Maybe you remember us. Special thanks to the lovely lady at the breakfast buffet who kept an eye on our clients mom when she was alone at the buffet. Her service was absolutely outstanding.

This is NOT a 5-star hotel, I don’t know who was paid off to grant that rating but they really miss the mark of what a 5-star rating represents. On the plus side: location is excellent, walking distance to everything, and the historic building has tons of charm with delightful little surprises from quirky hallways, to stained glass windows featuring nautical scenes, carvings and sculptures hidden all around, it’s very cool. The one positive about the room is that it’s very spacious with VERY high (15 feet/5 meters) if you’re in a superior room. Why it’s not a 5-star: the rooms are awkwardly laid out, especially the bathroom that’s down a narrow hallway off the bedroom with a giant glass door that opens toward you full blocking the hallway so you have to kind of open and shimmy around it to squeeze into the bathroom. My tv channels didn’t work, nor did the phone in my room so I had to call the front desk with my mobile device. There was no working climate control in the room, I happened to be staying during an unusually hot week where it was 85 degrees (30C) and the room was unbearably hot and stuffy because windows in Amsterdam don’t open (by law). It was quite miserable. Finally, I had booked and paid for a room the night prior to my arrival because I was landing in the early morning coming from the US and didn’t want to wait until standard check in time for a room. I called them the day prior to explain and they said it was no problem, it happens commonly and my room would not be given away as a no-show. I arrived at the hotel at 11am and the room was not ready - why?? I had to wait around in the lobby for half an hour until it was “inspected” because everyone was on break. Totally disorganized and disappointing that the room I paid for wasn’t ready the day of check in, let alone the following morning when I arrived.

The Grand Hotel Amrath Amsterdam is a stunning place to stay, exuding an old-world charm with its historic corridors and doors. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. The service is exemplary, and the hotel's central location in Amsterdam is a plus. I had a great experience at the bar with fantastic service and reasonably priced food. The only downside is the absence of air-conditioning, but they provide portable units and room fans.

We feel one or two things are not up to scratch. Almost all the time the main lift was broken down. This made the trip to the wellness centre difficult. Some ceiling tiles were taken down in the pool area and not put back. A couple of days the room cleaning had not been done when we arrived back late afternoon. We love the position of this hotel and have stayed there four times. The breakfast is allways very good. And the staff are always cheerful and helpful. But I think standards are slipping a bit. We were very surprised that the rooms do not have any USB ports. When I compare it with the mid price range hotel we stayed at in Arizona it does seem over priced for the standard of room

Wonderful quirky architecture and a very interesting history. While you can no longer use it, the beautiful paternoster elevator was powered up and running during my visit. The staff were very friendly and accommodating on my visit, good quality cocktails and food served in the bar; I didn't eat in the main restaurant but it seemed to be well-used. Room was well appointed and clean with a comfortable bed, the solid walls meant it was very quiet and I slept well. Definitely become one of my favourite hotels.

Better option to central hotels and at a reasonable price. This hotel has larger rooms and yet it sits in a central location. Personnel is attentive and helpful. Historic and beautiful building, representative of a famous Dutch architectural style. Nice stay.

Beautiful building near to central station. Handy for exploring Jordaan from here. Rooms were big and well resourced. Decor was a little tired in places. Spa was a treat and a great way to spend the evening before heading out. Staff were friendly. We didn’t eat or drink in the hotel but mainly because there was no information about this in our room. No milk for tea in room- Brits need this!

We stayed here during our honeymoon and found this to be a wonderful hotel. Reasonably priced and conveniently located. We actually took a train from the airport, and walked from the train station nearby to here because it was so close. The building itself is architecturally stunning. We stayed in their "Oriental Suite" and it was incredible. The suite is gorgeous and very unique. However, the best part of it was that it has a private rooftop terrace. Seeing the views from the top of the hotel was a truly special experience. When we come back to Amsterdam one day we look forward to coming back here, and we hope that we are able to get that same suite!

We make it a habit to get coffee/breakfast at nice hotels (even though we are not staying there). The Grand Hotel did not disappoint. Superb service and high quality coffee just the way you like it. And the prices were very low compared to the quality of the establishment.

At time of booking I requested a specific room and only after a second request when already brought to the wrong room I got the one asked for. The service was very slow. The stay was in December and the suit was badly heated, it was very cold. The caution of the room was never refunded, after sending an email about that I got told it would be with me in a few days. It never was sent to me and my further emails about this were ignored.

I enjoyed my stay there a lot. We did some sauna before the breakfast. It's like the perfect way to start your Sunday. The service is very handsome there and they try there best to make my stay as calm as possible. I will come back again soon. The rooms were clean and big enough, the bath was nice and modern. Everything you needed. Only the breakfast could have some more vegan stuff.

Wonderful room on 3rd floor with long bath. Breakfast was extremely good. The only downside would be servicing the room. Were there for 5 days and the coffee/tea was never replenished. We did get a new bottle of water, but only once.

I’ve stayed at this hotel numerous times. Location is the hotels main asset, right in the middle with easy walking access to all shops, bars, restaurants, transport and everything else. The hotel itself is a very unique and historical building which is a theme throughout. So although the service is brilliant, the items inside the hotel are dated and hasn’t developed between the 4 years that I’ve been staying. The spa has everything you need but again needs an upgrade. The restaurant is very nice and I would recommend. Only giving this 4 stars because my most recent stay had a few hiccups but for the price this is a fantastic hotel to stay at

Believe it was built in the early 1930s Very old school style. The hotel has comfortable beds with great staff. Made my stay that much nicer. It is real close to Grand Central station a easy walk 5-10 minute walk. Good breakfast would definitely stay there again. Right near the heart of things easy to get to the food or fun. Whatever the definition is

I stayed in the hotel for one night. The room was fine. But, I was charged for 3 nights instead of just one. Called 3 times and they always tell me that they will have a look but nothing happens. They don't call back. Also wrote an email but no reply. This is not 5 star-ish behaviour. Addition: The case was solved after 2 weeks. I got my money back and I am overall happy with it. Therefore, I updated my voting from 1 to 4 stars, because things can happen.

The hotel staff were very generous. I’ve actually landed on my bday .So they’ve sent me some chocolates and candy to my room which was very courteous of them. The staff were extremely polite. My check in was like around 2pm but I’ve landed early morning . But the staff managed to help me allocate a room. I’d recommend this hotel and it’s also very close to central station and many nearby places. It’s very steep inside and many directions to be turned which could makes us feel like a maze runner My room was 702 . It was a decent room with decent view

My girlfriend and I stayed here last weekend and it was absolutely amazing! We had a room on the 3rd floor with a beautiful view over the canals and the city centre. The team was super warm and welcoming and we even got a little tour of the hotel just after checking out, the architecture itself is already worth the visit!

Excellent service!! Thank you Isaac for your great hospitality!!! Room, service , food and location are excellent! You made our stay in Amsterdam a most memorable one. And to Maria in the breakfast dining room. We will be back and will definitely refer our family and friends. Thank you for the memories! Rina and Mounir

Definitely not worthy of 5 star rating. The hotel itself is nice and the staff are friendly. There is absolutely no attention to detail in terms of standards. We booked 4 nights. The bath was dirty on arrival with hairs. We asked reception to clean it and several hours later after returning it had not been done. We contacted reception and they sent up 2 housekeepers with bathrobes and slippers for us! I showed the housekeepers and they cleaned it and could not have been more helpful. The next day when returning to the room there was a dirty cloth left on my wash bag, we we just dumped outside the room. Breakfast is shockingly bad for the price. There is a great amount of variety but the quality of the cooked food is very poor. Dry bacon, salty eggs, dry hash browns and pancakes. No English breakfast tea at all as they were waiting for a delivery...go to a supermarket and get some!!!! Beds are very comfy and the room is lovely other than being too hot and not being able to turn bathroom fan off. One more night to go!!!! I would rather had stayed in a 3 star which would probably be as good a quality as this. So annoying and so expensive

Great customer service from beginning to end, very accommodating to travelers. Rooms are turned down every morning and are extremely clean. The bathtub I’m the deluxe room is big. The wellness center is great , small gym and sauna and steam room is so relaxing

This hotel does not deserve to be a 5 star. This is a 3 star hotel. The pool was lovely but there were dirty tissues on the side that were there for 3 days in a row. No one cleaned up. The Jacuzzi was not working properly and no shampoo or conditioner to use in the spa. The steam and sauna were nice. No robes or slippers in the room. The staff were friendly. Beautiful Art Nouveaux architecture.

Such a pretty hotel with great staff. Whilst walking to our room Peter told us a bit about the history of the hotel which was great to know. When we first got to our room we weren't happy with the layout the the bed ans TV and when asking for this to be sorted Peter helped out with the changing of our rooms. Would definitely stay here again.

Non of the rooms have air conditioning unfortunately so we were moved to a ground floor suit with openable windows, a nice view of a garden and an old noisy fan, despite this we had a really lovely stay. Really nice staff, Isaac in particular was very accommodating, provided great service in a warm and friendly manner and consistently had a smile on. Beautiful rooms and great location. Would stay again, definitely!

Hidden gem of a hotel!! So nice and so professional , and priced well. The interior reminds me of The Shining from Steven King, but the rooms are spacious and the design is lovely. As an added bonus, everyone here has been friendly and helpful. This will certainly be my new place in Amsterdam. Not too far fromCentral station and tons of places to eat close by.

I have not had the chance to fix my review for this Hotel. Previously, I wrote a bad review, but since then, Marina Tavares from Guest Relations has been excellent. Even though they do not offer refunds booked through AMEX, they were able to offer me a FULL refund and even helped me book in the future. My previous review was tasteless and was honestly due to frustration with COVID. The customer service at the hotel has been excellent, and I cannot wait for my stay next year. Once again sorry for my previous review, and I hope you have a prosperous New Year!
