You know a hotel is cheap when they do anything they can to make money off non refundable reservations. I know it's a risk you take when you book it that way, but these guys don't care about any circumstances. My wife had a routine check up and something bad was found so she was scheduled for surgery. Obviously I had to cancel the trip. They didn't care at all, cheap hotel desperate to make money off anyone that books non refundable. I wasn't planning on canceling, I was 100% sure I'd go, which is obvious by the fact that I booked non refundable. But these guys don't care about any emergency or anything. They're happy they made their almost 200 euro without even giving a room away. Very cheap indeed (and I don't mean price wise). To me it doesn't really matter, it was only 175 euro, so not a whole lot, but I wanted to post this in case anyone else might make the same mistake and expect these fellas to act human-like. Spoiler: they won't. They're very hungry, and they like free money when they can get it (who doesn't?). I hope you enjoyed my 175 euro. Consider it a present for all the hardship you guys went through in the netherlands. Now that the restrictions are lifted, go have yourself a nice night out with it. Definitely not going to book with them again, refundable or not. There are far greater places in amsterdam that are customer focused and not desperate to milk any money they can from anyone. Thanks for reading.

The hotel is modern and the staffs are friendly. I booked a room for 3 people at a really good price. The location is about 4-5 kilometers away from the center. But one positive point is that it is near the tram and train station. You can buy a 24-hour public transport ticket for around €8.00. But remember that train is not included, you have to update the ticket. The room is decent, clean, and comfortable. We used it for sleeping only. ❗ But please bring your toothpaste and toothbrush because they are not prepared by the hotel. We booked breakfast at the hotel. It is a continental breakfast 🍞. The food was ok but for the price maybe you should go to the center and try some local food.

We liked the hotel, is simple but colorful and modern. Despite this, there are certain things that we would like to comment for future visitors. The individual beds are a bit small and the room is cold. The blanket is also small for the size of the bed and pillows are not comfortable. Also, it has a shared kitchen that is small for the amounts of guests and doesn’t have a microwave. Plus, they only have one drying and one washing machine, what makes laundry time a little complicated due to the amount of guests. We wanted to make emphasis on the reception employees, that always showed great attitude and kindness.

In every hotel I have been so far I was able to store my baggage during check in and check out times somewhere for a couple hours. Unfortunately this hotel has small lockers which you have to pay for. Our guitar didn’t fit in and there was no flexibility whatsoever. When I mentioned that I was not very happy with the situation I was told that they are a student hotel and that I can’t expect any better. Even as a student I don’t want to be treated like this, not to mention that prices are not very student like.

I enjoyed the facility and the lobby in which there is plenty of entertainment for children and others. The location is great for visiting the city. The room was always cold. When I returned from my excursions I would have appreciated a warmer temperature instead I continued to suffer from the cold. The beds did not have slats but metal plates and therefore the rest was not optimal. The blankets were too small and we could not cover ourselves well, suffering from the cold all night. The lights on the headboard were uncomfortable and we were banging our heads. The breakfast was decent, I would have liked more variety. The free water dispenser was excellent.

Honestly we had a great stay! We filled up a whole 6 person room so it was great we had lots of privacy and the rate was really good for how long we stayed! I would love to come again! They had hot water, they provided towels, shower gel and shampoo! Nothing to complain about! There’s several outlets by the beds so each get their own plug as well as their own 2 usb ports!

The hotel is clean, located very close to a big train station, and very cheap. I didn't like the fact that even the private rooms have those bunker beds, but for that price it's completely fine. They even have a shared kitchen for the guests, that is amazing! The bathroom is very nice. One star less because the ventilation system sometimes makes quite a bit of noise during night. There is no way to turn it off completely. Also, if you're there with your partner be prepared that you can move two beds next to each other, but the mattresses keep moving away.

Small, but tidy room and bathroom for four people. Good mattresses in the beds and handy boxes under the beds for storage. The lobby and shared kitchen is very good, as is the free cold water automat in the lobby. Best part is the location: right next to the Amstel bus, metro and train station and a short walking distance away from Amstel River banks and park.

A large group of us stayed here in February. The hotel bar is quite small but were very accommodating and had everything we needed. Rooms were clean and bed was comfy. Location to different parts of the city from Amstel Station was very easy to access using contactless to get on and off the tram. From the airport a taxi cost £25. Going back to the airport a tram and then train (which was 2 floors) cost around £5.

My first visit in Amsterdam ended up in cheapest hotel I could find. Place itself is really nicely located: tram, metro, train and bus are 50m away from entrance. Building is new, really modern and good looking inside and outside. Receptionists are very helpful and understanding, they will provide any information needed. Parking is super expensive. There is only one (sic!) kitchen for 6 floors of rooms. Kitchen itself was very dirty and most of the things were not working. People there (mostly young) don't care about shared stuff. Rooms are very small, no fridge, no shelf, no kettle, one very small table and single seating. No AC, and closed shut window. Overall next time I would spend bit more on a hotel with separate kitchen and fridge, as you simply can't exist without such things.

The hotel was very clean, comforting, and safe. I liked the open kitchen for any guest. However, the mattress in a double bad are two single ones, which is unfortunate & the mattress are quite hard. Overall, I would come back because I felt comfortable and the location to the train station couldn’t be any better.

In reality, it is a (expensive) hostel for young people (students). Very nice common area with games (none it's free). The room was super tiny with several technical issues. The air system has to be constantly on as the windows are blocked. Fine, but it makes noise as it is old fashion one. The noise stops for some minutes if you beat it. There was a disgusting smell coming from the bathroom. Both things we told the reception. The smell went away for some hours after the maintenance came. Then, it was back. We could barely enter the bathroom. Main thing, the ho(s)tel is literally over the amstel train station. Even if insulated, you could clearly hear all the trains coming and leaving. So annoying. Considering how much we paid it is I will never come back not recommend it to anyone. Good the breakfast, for 11€ you will have many choices of decent quality.

The hotel in Amsterdam exceeded my expectations in every aspect. The cleanliness was exceptional, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The service was not only nice but exceptionally friendly, and the staff demonstrated a genuine willingness to assist during my entire stay. The delicious and comprehensive breakfast further added to the overall positive experience. Additionally, the hotel's strategic location near the metro made exploring the city incredibly convenient. I highly recommend this hotel for a delightful stay in Amsterdam.

Great hostel! very clean and the staff is friendly. The dorms are a little small but the bathrooms are huge. Nice kitchen to cook your own meals. The bike rental is really simple and cheap. I would recommend.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Meininger Hotel Amstel during our class trip. The breakfast was great with a huge variety of food and drinks. Especially for vegan/vegetarian and gluten free people there where a lot of options. The rooms were small but very clean. The beds were always freshly made and the towels were exchanged regularly. Sadly the rooms were quite cold as the air conditioning was nearly always on and we couldn’t turn it off. Also the flushing in the toilet was a bit too soft. The lobby was great for hanging out with other young people and getting in touch. Only thing that wasn’t as great was the shared kitchen which was always quite packed and not as clean as we wished it to be. All in all we were really satisfied and enjoyed our time.

Comfortable bed, room super clean, good shower, friendly staff. The bar does a decent coffee. Really nice to have a kitchen available, although it was short of utensils, eg. no knives, not many pans.

Very convenient to get to from Central Station, just a short train ride ( 5 stops) and hotel is next to the train station. Super quiet, in the room you cannot hear the trains at all. I arrived early to drop my bag off in the storage lockers. The staff at the front desk offered to check if early check-in was available for my bed. I was in luck and it I was able to get right into my room. Rooms were very clean, and checked each day even in a shared room. Wonderful experience, would stay here again. Would definitely sta

We stayed here with our two small children. It was nice having a bed for our older child and a baby bed set up all in the same room so we could be together. The children loved the play area near reception. The benches were a nice place to eat our takeout and the breakfast was also very good. The room had an odd smell like sewer and that would be our only complaint. We would stay with this hotel again.

The Meininger Amstel is a clean and tidy hotel. The communal space is well equipped with lots of tables and power outlets and it’s only 2 minutes from the train station. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I have stayed here on multiple occasions and would happily stay again.

Arrived at the hotel, our room was ready at 2pm which was perfect. Receptionists were friendly. The hotel was a twin room pushed together which was all you had left as we were looking for a double which was fine. Only thing was the bed were just pushed together and there wasn't a sheet in-between so the beds kept pushing apart when we slept together. The room wasn't cleaned at all during our stay as you have to request cleaning so we got the bedsheets and toilet cleaned. We weren't given any more shower gel even though it was clearly empty. The cleaner took the key card for whatever reason when we were out of the room. The beds were comfy but the small light at the bed was very annoying as I kept hitting my head against it. When we were checking out we had to pay for the lockers to leave your bags there which is absolutely scandalous. You get 2 hours for 2 or 3 euro depending on the size of the locker or 24 hours for 6 euro or 8 euro. No in-between. We paid for the 2 hours as our flight was at 5pm which meant we had a long wait at the airport because of the charge. Overall the hotel was ok but the room cleaning and locker chargers put us off staying again. 2.5 is what I would give it. Not quite 3 stars.

I shared rooms with three other ladies, they were very nice and it worked out well. The room however was to small for us and we had difficulties stowing away our belongings. Shelves or hooks on the walls had been appreciated! Public transport just outside the hotel, very good since the location is a bit off. I walked into the city, it takes an hour, alongside the Amstel with beautiful views. The breakfast was very tasty and the hotel is very clean and well organised. Highly recommended for the budget traveller.

Really nice hostel with the add on that towels are provided (2 per person) free of charge, and get changed every day. Guest kitchen also a bonus, though could have a few more utensils. Lots of space to sit and relax in the lobby too. 1 minute walk from Amstel station, which is only a few stops away from centre of Amsterdam. McDonald's right across as well.

It's a bit far from the Center, but it fits day that in the description, so it's all good. Other than that, place was fine. Stayed there a few nights, my stay was pleasant. Staff were friendly and helpful with directions

I had the pleasure of staying at this exceptional hostel, and it truly exceeded all my expectations. The rooms were not only spacious but also thoughtfully equipped with a range of amenities, including a TV, hair dryer, AC, and even a secure locker for peace of mind. What truly sets this place apart is the outstanding service provided by the staff. They go above and beyond to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The welcoming atmosphere, coupled with the availability of entertainment options like a pool table and various other games, makes it a fantastic choice for travelers looking for fun and relaxation. For those who enjoy cooking their own meals, the fully equipped kitchen is a blessing. It provides the opportunity to self-cook and save on dining expenses. On the flip side, the hostel also boasts a vibrant resto-bar, perfect for socializing and enjoying delicious food and drinks. When it's time to unwind, there's a dedicated rest area where you can relax in peace. The spacious rooms provide ample room to stretch out and feel at home. Additionally, the hostel's location is unbeatable. It's conveniently close to both the metro and train stations, making it easy to explore the city. And the best part? It's all incredibly affordable, making this hostel an excellent choice for budget-conscious travelers seeking a top-notch experience. Don't miss out on this gem!

Everything was clean and there are lots of games and the workers were really helpful. What I didn't like is that in the room you don't have any privacy. Also there is no window. But it was a good and pleasant stay. Plus the McDonalds and big Jumbo market with lots of options of food is just across the street.

Overall very clean and great facility. I asked to be in the same female dorm with all my friends and they accommodated me. There is a bar, but not a lot of food options. I felt safe at this place you have your own bathroom.

  • 5/5 Anish Kumar D. 6 months ago on Google
The stay here is absolutely wonderful. We stayed in dorm beds but still felt as if staying in a fancy hotel. Our beds were done by staff every day and we got fresh towels too. The facilities and rooms were very clean and hygienic :) Highly recommended

Good hotel for many and few bed rooms. Mine, a multi-bed room, was big enough and well thought out. Bathroom could be made to shine again with little cost. Wide range of food and drink. Very good connection to the subway or buses. The noise is limited. Thanks for a nice stay in Amsterdam.

Everything was pleasant and the guys working at the reception helepd me a lot with all the questions I had because I stayed there for a week while I was looking for housing. Clean rooms and I think because of Covid they only put two people in the rooms for four.

Everything was great. The rooms, the meeting room, the breakfast and the dinner. The packed lunch was not so good. Some sandwiches only had salad.

Cool design ans overall nice experience, clean rooms and hotel and friendly staff. There was not a lot of sharing spirit but maybe mainly because of COVID-19

I had a very pleasant stay. The guest kitchen is a differential and it helped a lot when it came to saving some money, we shopped at a Lidl market which is 8 minutes away on foot and cooked at the hotel. Public transport nearby, which made getting around the city easier. I recommend.

The hotel is conveniently situated, clean, affordable. Excellent service. We would definitely visit it again and recommend the place to anyone.

  • 4/5 Václav P. 2 years ago on Google
It is a nice hotel, but I would say more like hostel type. Room is very basic, just beds and small table. There is no wardrobe, only a drawer under each bed. Bed is quite narrow with spring mattress. Cleanliness is on high standards. Reception was welcome and helpful. Pretty happy with a one night stay.

So happy to be here! The place is amazing, the city is so beautiful and the receptionists are very, very helpful. Thanks Fernando for your help. I absolutely recommend this Hotel!

We stayed in in the West location for a night and it was definitely nice and quiet adequate but this hotel was much nicer and far more spacious. The bunk beds for kids was super and there were plenty of places to sit in the lobby area. If you're trying to decide which location to choose go with this one. We will definitely stay here again the next time we're in Amsterdam.

Quiet nice place near the center of Amsterdam. Friendly receptionist, clean and big kitchen, clean light room. Many young people from different countries, perfect place for them. Nice design.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay! Just like the rest of Amsterdam, this accommodation was super overpriced. Nevertheless, the rooms were very clean and they were able to accommodate our request upon booking. Also, the location is very convenient for people who would like to use public transportation!

  • 5/5 Nikola D. 10 months ago on Google
Very friendly hosts. Five of us have been sharing a room for 6. Biggest problem is the lack of space and no closet in the room. Otherwise everything else was great. Lobby can accept a lot of large groups. Very tasty breakfast. And they have gluten free bread on demand.

  • 4/5 Saif B. 1 year ago on Google
For a hostel this is very decent. The overall place was clean, however the rooms are not cleaned daily. I found that cleaning was lacking in rooms. The price is decent. Breakfast is not included but for the prepaid option the price is good for what is offered. The hostel overall is great if you’re staying with your own group, like all hostels if you’re staying with other groups, your stay is affected by other peoples habits. I will recommend to anyone who is on a budget and what’s to stay close to public transit.

  • 5/5 Phil L. 1 year ago on Google
The place is very clean and cleaned daily, there is a nice kitchen and hangout area which is also really clean. There's laundry the staff are helpful and it's literally right next to the train station so a quick metro or tram ride to the city center. This is not a "backpacker" hostel although I'm a backpacker and stayed, it has more of a hotel feel.

  • 3/5 Dorky T. 1 year ago on Google
The rooms were clean and tidy. But the 6 person room we had for family was quite cramped. One of having to sleep with our head in an alcove. Views were OK, and kids enjoyed watching passers by from windows. Breakfast was quite good, but I had a boiled egg that must have been a week old, and spoiled the breakfast.

  • 5/5 Nada K. 1 year ago on Google
I liked my stay at the hotel very much. The only thing I'd improve is putting curtains in the bed to be able to close them for some privacy. And make sure that the common areas are clean. For example there were a lot stains on the green sofas and chairs next to the reception and next to the bar area.

  • 4/5 Jonathan B. 1 year ago on Google
Great rooms, quiet and A/C plus showers are great. Mostly hotel rooms here with the shared dorms so definitely has a hotel feel. Good lobby space and shared kitchen too. Front desk staff unfortunately did not communicate effectively, made it inconvenient to extend our stay but did their best to resolve the issue. Excellent location right next door to the train station, easy to get to city centre.

  • 4/5 Natalia P. 1 year ago on Google
Great value for money given that it is Amsterdam. Meininger is the only hostel/hotel we stayed in where lower price doesn’t mean dirty spaces. The dorms are spacious with a contained bathroom. The lobby is spacious with great common areas although the communal kitchen feels slightly small given the size of the hotel. Great and friendly staff. It is the second time we use Meininger hotels and it is always a hit.

I stayed for 3 nights in a shared 4 bed dorm room. Everything was just great. Clean room, comfy bed, had one morning breakfast it was pretty good too. The location was pretty handy. I absolutely enjoyed my stay and had a great time. I personally found the rooms a little warm and the fan a little loud but it didn't really bother me.

  • 4/5 Joanie L. 10 months ago on Google
Really feels like being in a hotel, really clean and comfortable beds. A lot of amenities for the backpackers like a big kitchen/fridge and a washing machine. The dorms are pretty small for 6 persons though and there isn’t a lot of interactions with other travellers. Also upon arrival, the staff was a bit rude to us and our room wasn’t ready an hour after the check-in. They did give us a free drink to make up for it and we had nicer interactions with the staff later during our stay. The breakfast is all you can eat and amazing. Also just a few steps from Amstel metro station which is great !

5 friends shared a room on the first floor which was perfect for our long weekend in the city. A great location and price. We loved that we had a separate shower and toilet within our private room, this makes getting ready so much easier for groups. Unfortunately we were placed on the same corridor as many teenagers who kept us awake by running up and down the corridor and banging loudly on our door. We ended up complaining 3 times for it to eventually be dealt with.
