How are places like this allowed to operate ? I am really asking. Totally unacceptable levels of cleaning. This place should be inspected by an official government body. Really the hygiene is so bad. The whole place is crawling with huge bed bugs. Mouse/rats and lots of other unidentifiable bugs and creatures. Bathroom is small and dirty. Location is not good. Very far from centre. Don't feel safe in the area. Lots of people hanging around the hotel. Seemed like a homeless shelter. Bad smells everywhere. Staff look like they are being held against there will and from what I hear they are not treated good. This is really the worst hotel in Amsterdam. I genuinely struggle with how this place is allowed to operate. Disappointed and disgusted. Really loud inside and out so no chance of sleep. Smell of drugs and damp in the whole building. Mold and leaking showers. Truly a travellers worst nightmare. So do not give them your money. Honestly better crack dens that this total hole. If I haven't said enough please read the other reviews. It's clear this place with get closed soon

A very bad experience !! We were on a trip to Amsterdam for 5 days on new year's week. We had a very bad impression about the hotel from the beginning since they were not cooperative to cancel our stay even with the lockdown situation that was imposed in the Netherlands at that time. Furthermore, we had the worst stay ever due to the following reasons: - Heater does not work - Rooms are not clean - Beds are too small and containing bugs The worst thing is what happened during the second night of our stay. We hear very loud noises in the middle of the night coming from the neighbour room. Noises of breaking stuff, yelling,... No one from the hotel bothered to come calm him down, check on us or even call the police. Even after the incident the reception were not cooperative and did not offer help or refund(we even had to call the police ourselves that night) So we did not find another solution but to change the hotel and move to a better one immediately. I do not recommend this hotel at all.

We found bed bugs in our beds. When we told them they did deep clean our room but we found bed bugs again. When we asked for compensation they refused.

Whatever you do, DO NOT STAY HERE!!! On arrival, the hotel seemed ok if very basic, the receptionist was friendly and helpful. The room was tiny and again very basic, the bed was very old and uncomfortable and the pillow was basically just a collection of lumps. The walls are very thin so you can hear every bit of noise going on around you. However, none of this compares to the issue of bed bugs, I woke up covered in bites, to which I have had a very bad reaction, having looked at the reviews and seen many other guests complain about this, they clearly know and don't care to do anything about it. If you have any self-respect, please do not stay here, no price is worth what I have had to deal with.

Again, bed bug problems. We found the bugs (multiple big ones) crawling around on one of the 4 beds and we immediately took pictures and went down to reception to resolve the problem. The staff are nice but they basically can’t offer any solutions to these problems and gave us 4 bedsheets. This was at 11pm so I wasn’t surprised that they currently couldn’t do much more, we were promised a deep cleaning on the following day, and I was fortunate enough to be able to spend a night at the friend’s house we were visiting. The deep cleaning lasted around 4 hours in the middle of the day so we were left without a place to stay while it was raining, and then after the deep cleaning we still found bed bugs on a different bed, and the sheets were still filthy and riddled with yellow and brown stains, as well as liptsick on my pillow case. When we checked out I asked about some form of compensation, but all they said is that its not refundable (did not ask for a full refund) and that I should have asked for compensation the day the bed bug problem came up (again, we found them at around or probably later than 11pm). All I wanted was one night’s price as compensation since I literally could not stay in the hotel on wednesday night. Apart from this, the walls in the hotel are paper thin and we could hear what was going on in the reception when we were in our room on the 2nd floor. The walls looked filthy and most of the towels we got also had stains on them.

Great hotel for a quick night stay! Nothing fancy but has all you need. The clerk told us a price higher than on Booking.com but after a short conversation we decided to get it off booking. We were still charged extra per bed eventho we booked the whole room.

This place is amazing. I cannot believe such a cute place is so cheap as well. The rooms are nice and cleaned every day. The facilities are also clean and very modern. Recently refurbished and well maintained and managed hotel. Breakfast option. Rooms with private bathroom or shared. VERY close to the centre. Option to rent bikes. The receptionists are VERY helpful and polite. Everything's really top notch here especially if you compare the price to nearby hotels. Will come back every time I'm around here. Thank you.

I couldn’t give at least 1star. It was horrible hotel and everything stuff like towel and bed stuff is dirty. We found also bed bug on towel. Also super tiny room and unclean on bathroom. Almost we argued in hour after finding bed bug. If you want to relax and have a nice memory in Amsterdam I recommend to not stay at this hotel.

DO NOT STAY HERE. This was by far the worst experience I’ve had at a hotel in Europe. We found bed bugs in the sheets and the room next to us partied until 2am with smoke filling our room despite the apparent hotel no drug/smoking policy. The room itself was tiny, and no window which made it feel like a cell. The shared bathroom was extremely grotty. We had booked for three nights but only stayed one such was the state of the hotel, the receptionist did not apologise nor offer a refund. Do yourself a favour and stay anywhere else.

I came to the hotel a bit scared because the comments. I have been here 3 nights with two friends and everything is fine. In our room there were no bedbugs and everything was very clean. The receptionists are very friendly and the hotel, for such a cheap price, is very good. If I were to return to Amsterdam, I would definitely stay at this hotel again!

    - It was a nightmare! One guy near to our room has destroyed everything in his room at 7 am, we were afraid that he will come and hit us, we had to call the police because no one is working from 23h30 to 7am. - The heater is not working - The beds are not comfortable and dirty - As Amsterdam has put a partial lockdown during the Sylvester fest we wanted to cancel our booking but they were not comprehensive and not cooperative.

This was the worst stay in my life. The room was tiny anf filthy, but the worst were noises at night. There was sth wrong with the heating and several times a night there we heard loud rumbling in the pipes. Not to mention that walls were like made of paper and we could hear the loud party of our neighbours. The staff did nothing about the noises and disregarded our request for compensation, almost three sleeplees nights. STAY AWAY of this place!

Would not recommend this hotel. There were bed bugs or small spiders, got stung and my finger and hand are swollen. There were people smoking that we can smell it from our room the whole three days, complaint to the staff and they said that guests can’t smoke in the room, but we still smelled it from our room, the staff could have done something to keep the smell away. Bathroom and sink were so small that it was inconvenient. Space was very limited as well for three people. Our stay was not pleasant

For what we pay was good enough. I didn’t find bedbugs as previous comments were referring .They were cleaning the room every day by changing blankets sheets and the toilets.

AVOID. It’s a pity that I didn’t read the reviews on Google before booking one week. I got bitten every night, there is a huge problem with bed bugs as from the comments I see that they are aware and not doing anything about it, I’m going to complain so they send some sanitation service. Horrible small rooms, it stinks like old stale air and cigarettes. The radiators are too hot so impossible to sleep if the window is not open. The bed is too small and uncomfortable. The shower room is very small. Walls are thin and you can hear everything that other guests are talking about even if they’re not loud. Squeaky floors. I lost the room card and they put hotel name and room number on the card. I asked to deactivate the lost card but they said not possible. So basically anyone could have walked into my room in this week. Overpriced. Dirty. I would not give it even one star.

Nice staff. 24/7 front desk. Nice bathroom. Smaller size room but ok. Beds are ok. Linen and towels included and daily cleaning if wanted. You can hear other guest’s through the walls and ceilings. Tram #4 is close by and takes you to the center. Otherwise it’s 40’min walk but it’s a nice walk. Unfortunately there are bed bugs and as a result: bed bug bites.. if you bring these home, it’s a living hell

Room was fine but a bit dusty. Bed frame is covered with black fabric, which is a really bad choice for a very certain type of stains. Probably the hotel wanted to hide a smell in the room, because it was covered by an extremely intense peppermint air freshener which was so penetrant, I felt nauseous all night long due to which I barely slept. (It’s like someone who just had really strong chewing gum is breathing in your face all the time). Luckily, we had no issues with bed bugs (we were scared because of the other reviews), but did find lots of old brown tiny blood stains from previous guests who did get bitten in the bed linnen. Would not come back tbh.

The hotel overbooked and only informed us on arrival. They were reluctant to offer us a replacement accomodation so we were forced to book one at expensive last minute prices.

Don’t stay at that horrible place. We wanted to check in late night and they had bed bugs in 2 rooms. The administrator didn’t care about it and made jokes that’s it’s not a problem calling me “bro” and behaving very disrespectful. They didn’t refund me money and I had to find another place at night.

We was there 22-24 May 2021.This place was a nightmare. Bed bugs are present and my girlfriend has bites all over her body. When I showed the bites to the staff they not even looked surprised. We asked for another room but they offered us just a single bed room or a double bed room without bathroom. Btw the double bed are 2 single beds pushed together. We asked for laundry to prevent taking the bed bugs home with us but they were not willingness to help with it.The hotel does not even offered a lower cost or nothing. I think places like this should not oparate until bug issues are fixed. Really bed experience 0 point/star to the hotel.

Hotel much much further from city than implied at hotel. We were in room 006 which has the added bonus of being right in the reception area where you can here every phone call or item being vended through the machine. The coffee at reception is not free and also terrible quality. If your stay is miles outside of A'dam city than its a nice place to stay kind of....

I was a bit nervous before arriving to the hotel due to seeing a number of negative reviews. However, for the price paid, the location is absolutely fantastic and while the room was small and basic, it was exactly what we paid for. If you are just looking for a basic place to sleep & leave your things while exploring the city, you could do a lot worse than Flipper. I can only assume the people leaving negative reviews were expecting to pay £30 a night for a 5* hotel experience..

Great place for desperate travelers and bargain shoppers that have little or no expectations! You will be reminded of a no-smoking policy at check-in. The irony of that will hit you in the face when you walk in the room as the rooms already smell as if your grandmother chain-smoked in them for her entire life. The room is slightly larger than what you would find at a bathhouse. There is just enough room to walk next to the bed and to stack your luggage against the inside of the door. Do not attempt the stairs with large luggage, large feet, or slight intoxication. You will likely fall to your death. There is a no-refund, no-care policy in place so book at your own risk!

Everything was fine. Very calm hotel in a quiet neighborhood. Very pleasant woman at the reception desk. I would say that breakfast is a little bit pricy and the snacks in the fridge as well. All in all good experience.

I really don't understand a lot of the bad reviews Hotel Flipper has received... We had such a pleasant stay here, treated with such kindness by the staff. Everything was clean and the location is really lovely and the walk into the centre is enjoyable!

  • 3/5 Benjamin S. 8 months ago on Google
For A budget it was good. Room was very small, two twin beds, and the only window was in the ceiling. I do recommend regardless. It is easy to get into the city centre on the public transport.

A little bit colder... we used a fan to warm up the room. But for 30euro per day was ok. Instead the noise of fan was horrible. The heating instalation was not working for a week... (as i stayed here)...the receptionists sayd... The personal was very very nice.

I should have read the reviews before going. The room may have been cheap but the bed fell apart and was covered in bed bugs - I have had to sterilise all my clothes from my trip. A horrible time.

I with friends had theree nights here and we had room for 3 people with separate bathroom. Friendly staff is available 24/7. Nice location to stay in Amsterdam: close to center (15-20 minutes by tram or bus), and to product shops (5 minutes walk). Fortunately, I didn't see or feel beats of bed bugs, but I was afraid of it the first night after reading other reviews. Very old rooms, but not destroyed. Every day cleaning. Towels are always clean, but sometimes with old spots. The worst for me was noise, I couldn't sleep there without earplugs. It is not parties, but you hear every movement of your neighbors.

If you can, don't go here! Not worth the money saved: dirty hotel, with a terrible smell. I stayed here with 4 friends for 3 nights: when we arrived the receptionist was stoned and could barely answer our questions. The only thing apparently clean was the bathroom (luckily!) My room was tiny, the mattress is mega uncomfortable. One night, my friends who were in another room, had a drunk guy trying to get into their room (he thought it was his) and no one from reception turned up to calm the situation down or at least apologise. Terrible, all terrible.

Everything was great, but they had a small bug problem and it's a little bit far from central. It is easy to get to central with a metro and it isn't expensive. The service was great, everyone was so friendly and they answered all our questions amazingly.

The hotel Flipper is a very decent hotel for Budget travelling Whilst reading previous reviews I heard of bed bugs, but upon my stay I did not see a single bed bug nor have any bites. I did take febreeze fabric freshener with me as I had doubts but no need for the use of this. The staff were very welcoming and made my stay just that bit easier and we’re helpful when needed. There is only a minor few problems with the hotel. The first one is the walls seemed quite thin as I could hear everyone talking when I came back at night and I assume other people could hear me as well. The other problem was the shared toilet was incredibly small and relatively difficult to use after a night out. Other than those minor things the stay was very nice and you can easily get a 3 day tram pass for 20€ so it was really easy to travel for the stay.

The location was great in a very nice and calm neighbourhood. Close to a tram station and supermarkets. The hotel was nice, staff friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, no bedbugs (we were worried after reading the reviews but we inspected the sheets and towels and everything was clean, no bites as well) and very comfortable bed. The shared bathroom was clean and tidy and every time we came back to our room it was cleaned. The walls were very thin and you could hear people from the room next to yours. The bedsheets and towels were also a bit old and like rags. But overall we had a pleasant stay, the hotel is very good for the price.

worst hotel that can exist, the hotel is very dirty they deceive people in the photos it looks like one thing but then it's another, the rooms are very small, they smell badly, they have bedbugs and it is impossible to sleep in a bed in that hotel because the bed falls apart. please run away from this hotel everything is bad in this hotel except the food machine.

Nice staff horrible guests making noise all night and smoking in room even though it is forbidden in hotel but it has a certain charm not to everyone's liking. It was spoiled by the guests not the staff or place.

  • 1/5 Тодор . 1 year ago on Google
The receptionists were nice. I slept in triple room with private bathroom. When you go in your room, you can smell some odor of old furniture. But that was ok, the real problem was the bedbugs. I though it was mosquitos but when I saw my back full of red dot, it was obviously bedbugs. The bathroom was nice and small. It was really easy to catch a bus to the airport from the hotel. I do not recommend it.

Stayed for 3 nights was good for the price, very clean and tidy our room was cleaned daily, the staff are very friendly and great location easy to get a tram to central the only downside was the beds wasn’t very comfortable but didn’t have any bedbugs like ive seen on the reviews, dont let the reviews put you of its decent for a budget hotel would stay again

Don‘t go there! The hotel has bedbugs in their rooms! We‘ve been there for two nights in August 2022 and had bedbugs after it.

  • 1/5 muat 5 months ago on Google • 1 review
Called the night before we stayed here about the bed bug problem from the reviews. I was ensured the issue was resolved and we checked in the next day. During the first night, immediately, we spotted tiny bugs crawling over the beds, walls, curtains and towels. We were given a second room and it didn’t take long before we spotted them there as well. We left the following morning. I would not recommend this hotel at all. The rooms were unsanitary and invested with bugs. But most importantly, when we expressed our concerns beforehand on the phone we were lied to.

Room had bed bugs. My sister had 4 bites on her back. A group of girls below us who had booked for a week found bed bugs on wall so that was the only reason we knew. Room cleanliness (apart from bugs) was average and surprisingly got an okay sleep. Staff were nice and gave us a full refund and payed for taxi trip to new hotel (after we requested this). I would not overall recommend this based on other reviews. Please read reviews before booking hotels

A lot of these reviews are overly critical, you get what you pay for and I had no room for complaints. Staff were friendly and helpful from start to end, and my friends and I found the family room to be very comfortable, perfect for what we needed. If you're looking for a reliable cheap stay, this is the place to go. It's not a luxury experience but is fairly priced and in a nice location.
