My partner and I really loved staying at the Hotel JL (or Hotel John Linnell as we called it). The bed was nice and big, arguably too big because we basically didn’t touch all night. The bath was also nice and big. We’ve tried sharing a bath in my tiny flat in England and have been very unsuccessful. The bath here though had plenty of space for both of us and we didn’t have to argue about who would sit at the tap end! Upon check in, the staff will tell you not to press the hot tub button until after the bath is full, PLEASE FOLLOW THEIR INSTRUCTIONS! I just pressed all the buttons and turned all the knobs while trying to figure out how the bath worked and ended up with big, loud jets of water spraying all over the bathroom. The room also had two cosy armchairs, plenty of storage, and a mini fridge which was perfect for keeping some snacks and drinks cool. The water in the taps is also drinkable. Plus the sink was big enough for me to fit my rather hefty water bottle underneath the tap, which I’m sure will be reassuring to anyone who, like me, has an emotional support water bottle. The location of the hotel is brilliant if you’re planning on visiting any museums, lots of them were within very short walking distance. Also great if, like me, you’re more interested in exploring the local supermarkets, but I suppose there are supermarkets in every part of the city. This maybe isn’t the place to stay if you’re coming to Amsterdam for the green stuff though. They were very strict on not smoking anywhere in the building, but this was perfect for us because we’re both sober. Over all, a very pleasant stay in a very nice hotel. My biggest complaint is that there was a rug by the door which kept getting stuck any time we tried to leave or enter the room. Not a huge inconvenience really though.

Hotel in a great location with BIG problems. I was physically assaulted by Jac, one of the night receptionists. He actually shut the door on my foot because he refused to let me out in the courtyard! Even as I was telling him he was hurting me, he continued to hold the door shut on my foot. In my world this is a fireable offense. The other night receptionist was not much better, making me go outside of my quite-expensive hotel. After the attack, I wrote to management attaching a picture of the injury. There was no response from upper management at all and it was left to the young day manager to apologize verbally and buy me a drink (ridiculous "compensation" if you ask me). I repeatedly asked that the CCTV video be reviewed, and management did nothing. In terms of consequences for this unforgivable behavior, I heard they were told to "be polite to the guests" (seriously?). I should have smacked him with my cane (yes, I am mobility impaired). These men did not even offer an apology. I unfortunately had to remain longer due to a scarcity of accommodation in Amsterdam at the time. As far as the infrastructure, the room was a good size and comfortable, but the daily cleaning was spotty. In general, the hotel seemed dirty. The good news is that the staff that are competent were amazing!!! In particular André, Lea and Bram. The people working at the restaurant were also very nice.

We stayed in the hotel two nights. The first night we stayed there I locked our door with padlock, but a man came banging on our door in middle of night. He opens our door with the padlock and starts asking us questions about where we are from while we are laying in bed. He did not say his name or if he worked there. He walked out of the hotel room. I had to barricade the door with a chair out of fear he would come back. I went to the receptionist and she told me she could not do anything until the manager came in the following day. We checked out and never heard anything from management. I would not recommend this place to anyone who wants to feel safe. We never got an explanation or apology from management. We never slept after the incident. Horrible experience. I should have reported to police. Would not recommend.

We stayed at the hotel for five nights. If the four stars are based on the staff, I totally understand. The staff was so kind and thoughtful that they should get five stars each! If the four stars are based on the location, comfortable beds and silent neighborhood, I also understand. The hotel at hand shouldn't have more than three stars. The sink was in the hallway instead of the bathroom, the bathroom flooded after a quick shower, there was no mini fridge and the breakfast costs £20 per person each day. The cleaning should get two stars. They forgot to change our cups and glasses, they forgot to bring us more coffee and toilet paper. They forgot to bring us new towels after they had taken the old ones. We called the front desk from our room everyday because something was off about the cleaning. If you want to live central, sleep well, meet nice staff, don't care about cleaning, flooding or coffee this is definitely the hotel for you.

Loved the location, right next to Vondelpark and one of many entries to the city, and yet calm and quiet. We loved our view, opened our windows wide and enjoyed it in their comfy chairs. Bonus points for the separate toilet/shower/sink, it makes a difference if you travel with someone. We appreciated the honesty bar, as I always hope for something like this everywhere I stay, just in case. Staff was nice and helpful! Rating 4 stars only bc for some reason our sink never drained lol

Great stay here. Hotel is very clean and well maintained. Bedding is super comfortable and the deep jacuzzi tub is unique and relaxing. Close to everything, great area. Only negative is that the coffee isn’t very good in the room or for purchase in the lobby; better to get it at a nearby cafe. Thanks so much for the hospitality!

Loved this hotel! The room itself was massive. The bed was huge and comfy, no complaints about our nights sleep although it is two singles pushed together which is often expected. Jacuzzi bath was a lovely touch especially during winter & i liked how the sink was separate to the toilet/shower/bath room. Honesty Bar is a great idea if you’re not up for walking to the shops & although we didn’t use it, it’s got a good selection of alcoholic and soft drinks. They have a locked luggage room to hold luggage if you arrive before check in or leave after checkout time. We arrived at 11am and put our bags in the room & when we came back at 3pm to check in, our bags had been delivered to the room ready for us. The location of the hotel is the street parallel to the luxury shopping street and a 2 minute walk to the closest tram stop. It’s also in a much quieter area compared to central but still only a short tram ride to anywhere in the city. It is also just up the street from the museum quarter! Would definitely stay here if i came back!

Overall, I enjoyed my stay. Upon checking in, the staff was nice but my room wasn’t ready (it was around 3:30) they said it needed to be cleaned. The room was spacious but not clean. The carpet was dirty & there was a drawer that had trash inside it. But the bed was comfortable & checkout was quick & easy!

An excellent boutique hotel located in a very quiet yet convenient part of Amaterdam. The location is very close to museums, parks and numerous restaurants. The hotel is well staffed. The internet connectivity is very good. The rooms are a nice size. The beds are comfortable. The bathroom is clean and functional. It is also nice that you can rent a bicycle from the hotel and I highly recommend you do so. Biking thru Amsterdam is the best way to get from point a to b and affords one a wonderful perspective. This is a great hotel and I highly recommend a stay here while you visit this wonderful city!

Really friendly staff. We had a few issues when checking in (not the Hotel's fault) and they dealt with everything very accommodatingly and professionally. Location ideal for visiting the museums, also well connected on public transport! On the negative side, there was no house keeping due to Corona (which is understandable and was communicated at the reception) but we stayed for a week, so the room does get a bit rough after a few days. For a weekend not a problem, for longer stays, maybe cleaning once is good enough. Towels are exchanged upon request, so are the linens if asked for. For 4 Stars the general expectation might be a bit higher, however the service limitations are certainly not the hotel's choosing. I would have appreciated a list of available and unavailable services before booking though - maybe there is one when directly going via their website, our travel broker did not have that info. Apart from these smaller issues, we enjoyed our stay and I would also recommend the hotel!

We stayed for a prolong weekend and the hotel was very good for this. The rooms were nice. We stayed in the basement with private bathrooms and that was great. Quiet area but close to the city center. Very nice staff.

We spent ten days here for our honeymoon and it was a great experience! Service is top notch. Everyone is very kind, accommodating and helpful. The rooms are small, but that may just be how a lot of hotels are in Europe. Very affordable rate and perfect location. Comfortable beds and overall atmosphere in rooms. Great working thermostat. Less than a 5 minute walk from Chanel, Hermes, Dior, LV, Gucci ect - for the people who care. Probably not an ideal location if you don't want your partner spending all of the money on designer goodies (like me). Thank you Hotel JL for being the perfect spot for our honeymoon. Airport and train station just an Uber ride away. Ubers are very easy to get at this location.

Overall a delightful stay. Staff on reception were very helpful, booking in, leaving our luggage for a later pick up. Good choice for breakfast, room clean and comfortable, location and use of local transport , all good!

We had a great stay at this hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room had enough space. And the location was perfect both for the museums close by and for hopping on the tram. Definitely recommend.

Great stay in Amsterdam! Location was great, the hotel was very modern & clean. Overall great time! Torben at the front desk was absolutely amazing throughout our entire stay. He went ABOVE & BEYOND to help us with everything we wanted / needed. We’re very appreciative for everything he was able to do for us!

Very nice hotel in a quiet part of Amsterdam and within easy reach of many of the sights, especially the museum quarter. Breakfast excellent and plenty of choice. The room was clean and tidy. Housekeeping would be our only negative (late cleaning, forgot to replace towels one day) but the hotel staff were so helpful sorting things out we couldn’t fault them. Reception staff were excellent and very friendly.

Compact room. Location location location! Close to every museum and great restaurants. Staff was kind and friendly. Breakfast was marginal. Cleanliness good but not excellent.

Located in the museum district this hotel is in a quiet part of Amsterdam. What makes this hotel special are the people working there. Andre who checked us in couldn't have been friendlier. He's quick with a joke and is happy to chat and tell you everything you need to know about the city. Our room was spacious and clean. It had a waterfall shower and a jacuzzi that was great after a long day of walking around the city. Breakfast in the morning was better than other hotels that I stayed at in Europe. Highly recommend!

Family room is in basement, vithout window almost. Little bit wet and dirty for the price and level. Location and breakfast are awesome.

Very good place to stay, 10 minutes tram ride the the city centre, trams run every 8/10 mins . The hotel was clear and tidy and the staff were excellent.

Very convenient location at a very good price. Staff is really nice. Only thing they can improve is cleaning the carpets as they are súper dirty and gives an uncomfortable feel at the room. Everything else is really nice.

Bad staff, our room was not cleaned nor did we get fresh towels. We had to put trash next to the bin because it wasn’t emptied our entire stay. When we asked the receptionist for fresh towels we had to pick these up ourselves. And he went on a discussion with us. And he only apologized when he was confronted about his behavior. He did not seem very sincere. Other receptionist was helpful with our bike rental.

The location of this hotel is fantastic. The hotel itself for the price we had paid to stay was above expectations! We were greeted with a huge hotel room, jacuzzi bathtub with tv and a very welcomed honesty bar which could be add to your hotel room tab. Would absolutely love to stay here again when returning to Amsterdam.

The room was comfortable, modern and clean. Check-in was slow. Housekeeping came into my room without knocking, twice. I was getting changed on one of those occasions. You get handed a sheet of information telling you check out is 12pm, then today I get a call telling me I had overstayed and needed to leave the room at 11:30. Good room. Bad service.

Positives: Andre was amazing!!!! He really was the stand out star of our stay! The location is amazing - near to everything. Rooms are very quiet. Negatives: Coffee isn't good. Our machine in the room didn't work...same story for most of the lights in the room. Unlike the other hotels we have stayed in, you have to pay for coffee after 11.00...the coffee isn't nice. Rather walk to one of the nearby shops and get Rooms weren't very clean - sheets on the bunkbed were dirty when we arrived and the mattress was very stained. Solutions were offered but not for the first night and would have resulted in the mattress smelling of chemicals. Thank you Andre have an incredibly memorable experience in Amsterdam!

😐 It is a large, somewhat impersonal, completely unshaded and extremely noisy campsite (we were in the tented section).Noisy because there is a large multi-lane bridge nearby, which is still very busy at night.
