My fiancΓ© and I stayed here for our trip to Amsterdam, and it was one of the best choices we have made! Our priority was to find a hotel with a good location, with excellent service at a reasonable price, and Hotel Asterick checked all those boxes. Pros - The location is great! The metro/trams are only a 3 minute walk away. This gets you to Amsterdam Centraal in 10 minutes, and the trams can take you to the left or right of Amsterdam in under 20 minutes. It also a short walk away from De Pijp which is a great location on its own and has a lot to offer in terms of restaurants or coffee shops! - The price was reasonable. When I was doing my research on hotels and it's prices, this one was at a reasonable rate compared to other options - Friendly staff and I loved that it was run by a family. - The room was a modern design! - The neighborhood is really quite, which is great if you have trouble sleeping due to the noise outside. Cons - The hotel is in an Amsterdam traditional building, the stairs are steep, so prepare for that (all of the stairs in Amsterdam are steep!). There is an elevator. - The rooms were a bit on the smaller side. This is also standard in Amsterdam, but just set your expectations to a reasonable size room. Overall, a great find, and I would visit this Hotel again!

After extensively researching hotels in Amsterdam, we came across this hotel (possibly in a guidebook) and we were very pleased that we chose here to stay during our recent visit to the city. The location was great, with a metro stop very close by and a great neighborhood with local shops and eats just to to the south - maybe a 10 min walk. The hotel was great overall - more of bed & breakfast feel than a franchised hotel chain. Would much rather support this family run facility. Definitely worth a stay when in town.

Great location. Interesting, funky and old building. Unfortunately the bedroom, specifically the bed itself has a lot to be desired. The bed is worse than the one I used in the military. It is so hard it caused my shoulders to hurt so bad I spent the whole night tossing and turning. When I asked the day clerk about it and if there is anything they could do, he didn't know. He asked his brown haired counterpart after I returned to the hotel after a tour. His brown haired counterpart became defensive and rude to me saying, "well the mattresses are new and many people like them." Essentially trying to discount the experience I was having and showing he had no desire to help a customer. I would absolutely avoid this place as a result of the rude nature of this one employee. The other employees have been all very nice and helpful, but this one brown haired employee is a problem and unfortunately one cannot expect anything from him because he doesn't care about the hotel's customers.

I booked this place for my parents when they visited us, as it's quite close to our house. Amsterdam is a very expensive city for accommodation, and this place is also pricey, however when you compare their price and what you get for it to other places, it's great value for money. I booked 2 rooms of differing prices and on arrival found out they'd been upgraded, which was great. The rooms were clean, spacious, well maintained and modern. The rooms were over the road in another property, it was quiet (though they give you earplugs - this Amsterdam and you never know!), and they had an honesty bar well stocked with beer, softdrink and waters. There were also loads of umbrellas, a necessity in this city. The main building had a beautiful common area for breakfast (they don't provide it, but you can BYO), where, upon check-in everyone got a complimentary drink. The location is handy, very close to a metro/tram line, a supermarket, and some tourist attractions (Heineken museum, Rijksmuseum etc). The service was outstanding - no request was too much, they were extremely accommodating and friendly. My parents thought the staff were excellent. I'm very happy I've found this place closeby to my house, whenever people are visiting and we don't have space for them, I will absolutely be sending them to Hotel Asterisk.

Small hotel conveniently located, very small room which was not cleaned the 3 days we stayed there, they only provided soap and clean towels once, the cleaning lady was very rude and the staff had a cold politeness.

This hotel was the best in all senses! The young girl from the front desk was so sweet and gentil with me, even she made a coffee for me while I was waiting for my room cause I arrive very early. The room, the bathroom, the bed, so clean, well settled and the location is perfect for those like me who like the calm vibe neighborhood to sleep well after a whole touristic day. Everyone there is nice, respectful and warm with the guests. Actually I recommended this place to several friends that are planning on going to Amsterdam and if I’m back, for sure this hotel will be my place.

My friends and I found ourselves on a spontaneous Euro trip to Belgium and the Netherlands. So obviously Amsterdam was a must visit. I found Hotel Asterisk through a quick Google Maps search. I was happy with the price/accommodations, so we booked! I'm glad I did! I couldn't have been happier with our 2 day stay. Rooms were clean and roomy. Every worker was respectful and extremely helpful to any request or questions. Annahita (sorry if I misspelled) check us in, and she was amazing! Answered all of our questions and gave us great recommendations for food! The only major downside was the thin walls of which I read about in other reviews, so it didn't bother us at all. I'm a major trinket/souvenir connoisseur, so when they gave us a parting gift at check out, I was truly touched. If I ever return to Amsterdam, I plan on staying in Hotel Asterisk. Thank you to the amazing owners for running an awesome family hotel!

Great location at the end of the North South line makes it great to get to and from the more expensive central district and train station. I think there's even a near direct airport line but we didn't confirm that. Tickets are easy to buy for multiple days or even use tap and pay for single trips. Close to the museum district for easy walking. The staff are awesome, knowledgeable and friendly. A hot towel on arrival was surely appreciated. Rooms comfortable and very clean. Will be my go to, next trip to Amsterdam.

Very good place to stay for family . Quite modern interior which is hard in Amsterdam. Room heating was best. Noiseless and perfect for us.

A wonderful hotel that embodies Dutch family friendliness. We had a great time from beginning to end, with a location convenient to see all of Amsterdam. Definitely recommend staying here

The location, friendliness, cleanliness and room were all excellent. However, I would describe the hotel as a glorified youth hostel. I was given a room in a separate building on the street, which was unserviced by any staff. The rooms are small and thin therefore meaning you can hear everything and everyone around you. At after midnight, I was awoken by a french couple banging on doors and windows, having lost their entry call. They proceeded to sit in the hallway talking, laughing and eating loudly, waiting for staff to bring a new key. Due to the hotel's zero-staff policy, this key replacement took half an hour, meaning I had to personally confront the rude guests (TWICE) which should be the job of hotel management to control. This is therefore not a hotel for those on business or people wanting a quiet night's sleep.

Way exceeded expectations. The staff were super friendly and the room was clean and very cute with floor-to-ceiling windows and a beautiful view of the street. Great value for money. Also, they gave me a cute little gift on departure. Would definitely recommend!

Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Amsterdam anyday! We loved the location - it is within a few minutes to Museum Quarter, Vondelpark and about 20 min to city centre. We loved this since originally we considered getting a hotel closer to Central Station and glad we did not - that area is way too loud and crowded, and short walk from Hotel Asterisk to the center is so much nicer as you get to explore the city on the way!! Plus the hotel staff - who are are always very nice - have a list of recommended breakfast local places and you just have to go to Coffee & Coconuts as it is a gem!!! My only reason for giving a 4 star rating is that I had a noise sensitivity issue with the floor cracking of walking steps on the floor above. The hotel is a residential building - which gives it such a great vibe but the thin walls and floors slightly impacted my stay experience.

Everything was perfect. There was no AC for heating or cooling so that was the only negative thing for our room. The rest is perfect. You may stay here without any hesitation.

Very nice hotel in a great location of Amsterdam. Walking distance of many tourist attractions and entertainment areas, yet in a quiet and pleasant street. We booked a slightly larger room and got a very nice and spacious room with a garden. The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly.

Great family run hotel. Great service. Only downside is they do not have breakfast facilities. But loads of cafes nearby.

Hotel Asterisk was hands down the best place we stayed during our recent 2-week trip in Europe. We stayed in building 25 on the first floor and we loved our room. The front desk staff was amazing, the room was very large, and the shower was awesome. I have no complaints. The hotel had a safe, a small fan we could use, and the room was modern and clean. If that weren't enough, the location is top notch. It's a short walk to De Pijp and a bunch of other attractions. If you are vegan or vegetarian, there were lots of great dining options a short walk away. Also, pro-tip: If you didn't know, Albert-Heijn (a popular grocery store there) does not take usually take foreign Visas or Mastercards BUT the one closest to the hotel is one of a handful that DOES accept them. It's a game changer, not to mention it's super close to the metro/tram station. (And for the Americans & ice lovers out there: you probably won't be able to get ice cubes at the hotel, but Albert-Heijn just 2-3 minutes away has bags of ice that were perfect). I misremembered the checkout time and the reception desk was extremely understanding of our faux pas and kind to us about it. They also gave us an adorable little gift upon check out that we were pleasantly surprised to open once we arrived back home. Overall, If you're considering Hotel Asterisk, don't overthink it -- just stay here. We miss it already.

In case you have an emergency (of any kind) and you can no longer travel, the hotel does not even consider rescheduling the booking, as per their terms&conditions, which are obviously set by the hotel owners. I had a reservation for 4 nights at this hotel and due to a medical emergency, I could no longer travel as planned so I've asked the hotel management to reschedule my booking 2 months later, but just for 3 nights. As the payment was done in advance, I trusted that the owners are client-oriented and would also win 200E for the 1 extra night I had paid. However, it seems that they are just business-oriented and unfortunately, their management skills are inexistent. If they had accepted to reschedule the booking, we would have definitely added this hotel to our favourite ones and return when visiting Amsterdam, and also, would have recommended the hotel to our friends and colleagues. Unfortunately, their lack of flexibility will only result in negative feedback and less and less clients. Good luck with your business.

I cannot say enough good things about Hotel Asterisk! I stayed for a week just before the pandemic started (sorry that I'm just now getting around to writing a review) in January 2020. The accommodations were quite nice, and the staff was super friendly. Several staff members treated me like a friend instead of a customer and gave me advice on things to see in Amsterdam (beyond the obvious) and gave me ideas for daytrips. The hotel is conveniently located close to a metro station, the Heineken brewery, and several restaurants, and it is a good value overall. When I return to Amsterdam one day, I will gladly book with Hotel Asterisk again!

Stayed here in March 2022. Family run hotel so everyone is very nice and accommodating. The location was perfect for us since it was close enough to the all of the attractions, but in a quiet area. Rooms are very comfortable.
