Friendly staff Hotel has nice decor The room was a box, felt like a caged room, no natural light, bit like a prison. It would have been good if there was an option to have a bright ceiling light, as they were all very dim, so all 3 lights in the room on together combined were about 40w! so girls, bring a makeup light! Decor was lovely which made up for it. Comfortable bed, clean room and bathroom. Location is ideal to visit Amsterdam. Especially as it right by the station. They’ve tried to scam us for the tax. So be careful on that one. Make sure they clear on what you’re paying.

A huge disappointment. This hotel did not live up to the descriptors of the hotel chain. The public areas are dirty (door surfaces, etc). Friendly staff to greet guests and provide assistance on getting around the city. But the small room we stayed in the first night was 'finished' with construction-grade lumber. The one lamp didn't work. Windows are low to the ground and unsafe as anyone could fall out of them (thinking particularly of children). The elevator is similarly unsafe as it doesn't have an interior door. No room service available without specific requests. Second room was far better but overall, this hotel felt like a less than satisfactory youth hostel. Location is great as long as you are okay walking a bit further or taking the tram.

I really enjoyed my stay. The room was clean and beautifully furnished, if a bit small. There are some steep stairs going up to the lobby from the street, but the hotel itself had an elevator which was a godsend. Getting in and out of the elevator required good timing though since the door is manual. The elevator won't move if the door is open but if you miss your window for opening the door then the elevator will move on to whichever other floor called it. Receptionist staff were very friendly - one of them helped me figure out my airport transport options at 11PM, the night before my flight! It also seems pet friendly, judging by the pet hydration station by the front door, treats at the receptionist desk, and the various pet-themed items in their gift shop. Highly recommend this hotel, would love to visit again.

Our stay was so nice and welcoming. It was exactly what I needed while being away from home. There are spaces to chill with a coffee outside your room. All buildings in Amsterdam are small but this hotel is so functional, hospitable, and overall super cute! We kept a small fan in the room because my husband likes it very cold, even in winter. They took great care in offering drinks and reservations and directions. The location ended up being perfect, safe and walkable to museums and shops. I highly recommend this hotel.

We had a great time at the Max Brown. The rooms are small, the hallways narrow and the stairs steep. But we knew that going in. Aside from that, the staff were friendly and happy to help. The decor was great. The location was amazing. The elevator was a pleasant surprise. And the front desk was always happy to sell us a nice wine or a welcome coffee. Would definitely stay again.

A charming hotel! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Perfect location in the museum quarter, with Centrum and De Pijp a short walk away. Only issue I had was the intermittent radiator heating in the room, it did get cold as there was a draft through the window, cleanliness in the bathroom could have been a little better. Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed staying here. I loved the vintage style and quirky decor, a great atmosphere. I would definitely recommend and would stay here again!

One of the best hotels I’ve been to in Europe. Extremely clean, spacious and maintained. Front desk staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Hotel serves your standard dutch breakfast in the basement level. The entry is not wheelchair accessible and they have extremely steep set of stairs to enter the establishment. One thing I did not like is the $15 per day charge for utilizing the hotel bicycles. Rooms also do not have refrigerators to store beverages etc.

We had booked this hotel from 23Jan2024 until 25Jan2024. We had called and notified the hotel that we were arriving very early morning on 23Jan2024 - we asked if we can/should change booking from 22Jan to ensure room was ready by morning of 23Jan. We were told no- it’s noted in our booking and they will ensure it’s ready despite check in being at 11. Upon arrival- the gentleman at the desk - whom was less than helpful - tells us that no dice - no room until 11 and only option if we want a room is to pay for upgrade to large room. We were exhausted from international overnight flight - and agreed to pay the 25€ extra per night. He also then asks if we wanted breakfast included- we informed him we had paid for it to be included and he said he did not see it on the reservation- despite me finding it on our booking. We come up to our “upgraded” room - room is clean- very small - two suitcases and two adults not very comfortable but it was as expected. There is no air conditioning at all in this hotel and the room is very very hot- the windows open only a crack. On our second day - the hotel and what looks like most of the block lost all power. And on our last day we noticed a sign by check in that stated we should have received a drink voucher at check in which we also did not. Location of hotel is great if you enjoy museum’s and high end shopping is right around the corner - few decent restaurants around the area. Center is about a 30-40 min walk from hotel. Overall - service is severely lacking location is good - and rooms are as expected

The room was clean and nicely decorated. The sheets were cleaned and starched but smelled heavily of body odor. There shower stall was very tight and I had to turn off the water constantly because the water would fill up to my ankles. There is no fridge and you can’t control the heater so the second night I asked about it and was provided a plug-in heater which made my stay more comfortable. I stayed there for four nights and they changed my towels only once during my stay, which is totally fine. But they did not replenish my toilet paper supply and I ran out after the second day so I had to ask for more Also they never once made my bed, which again is fine, but I was a bit surprised. The location is very conveniently located close to all the museums. Also, they provided a voucher of two free drinks per adult but no bottled water is provided. Also the shower had liquid hand soap installed instead of body soap.

We’ve had a great four night stay in Amsterdam here. Great location in the heart of the museum district. Museums , concert halls, restaurants, shops all close. Quick access to the centre, and recommend wandering over to De Pijp district. So atmospheric. Cute quirky rooms, very clean. Very friendly helpful staff. Nice bar area. Fabulous breakfasts. Real Amsterdam building so steep staircases (there is a lift though). We’ve loved staying here!

What a lovely place to stay! The staff was friendly and helpful and breakfast is great! Comfy beds and nice and clean rooms. Quiet too. I appreciated this place so much I stayed two separate times! Very convenient location.

Our stay at Max Brown Hotel was great, overall the hotel fits the Amsterdam vibe perfectly, the lobby is very nice and cozy, very quiet, nicely decorated and artistic. The coffee here was amazing, we drank it every morning. The staff was great, especially the young man who greeted us at arrival. The hotel offers umbrellas, bicycles and other useful items for free. The best value is the LOCATION, from where you can reach all corners of the city. Don't be surprised by the small spaces, small rooms, tight corners and steep steps, these are all normal for Amsterdam. We would definitely return here.

Staff are friendly. The beds were ok but the rest of the room not great. The room we had was a triple and was small and tight. I was with two little ones and it was a squeeze. Cannot imagine three adults there. I don’t like writing bad reviews but I didn’t not enjoy my stay at the max Brown. it felt not clean almost neglected: A dirty laundry beg in the corridor stayed in the same place for the three days we were there. It was too hot in the rooms and no way of ventilating. It wasn’t a nice feeling to get back in the end of a day

I’m a solo traveler and stayed at the Max Brown location for a week. The room is a typical small solo European sized room with a double bed. The bathroom was bigger than most single person use hotel rooms that I’ve had with plenty of hot water. The bed and pillows are very comfortable, room and site very clean as well. Front desk has a nice little coffee bar with snacks & other drinks. Friendly staff and in a great location in a beautiful neighborhood adjacent to several museums. About a 15 minute walk into heart of the tourist area. Trams routes close for everywhere you need to go. I recommend Max Brown highly for solo travelers 100%. Also, they mercifully let me drop my bag off about 3 hours before check in. Definitely appreciated that.

The location is near many museums and lots of shops as well as restaurants which are convenient for short stay. 24h check-in is very good. The room was very compact or perhaps a bit too tiny. The bathroom was quite modern and clean, with strong water from the shower. There's a small gap between the window and the window frame which makes the window couldn't be closed completely. The small heating can't compensate for the heat loss through this gap, I believe. The sound insulation was very bad. Loud noises when the room next door does check out or cleaning.

We had the coziest and welcoming stay at Max Brown Hotel Museum. From the first meeting of checking in to our final breakfast before we left, everything and everyone was top notch! I enjoyed spending time in the inviting bar lobby area visiting with the staff and playing card games with my daughter. Our room was fantastic and he views from our window were magical. All around great stay!!

This hotel is in a typical Amsterdam town house and has lots of charm. Rooms are compact and clean but also quirky. Staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great location with short walks to the city centre, museums are parks.

Terrible experience in this hotel. First you pay upfront, they charge you fees without checking if it is correct and then you have to wait couple of days for being reimbursed. Very little communication with the staff. Room extra small, tv did not work ….. do not recommend it

Great location. Good hot shower. Comfortable bed. Our room was bigger than we expected. Stayed for 3 nights and were really comfortable. Everything is within a walk away. Nice neighbourhood. Staff seemed very lovely and humble - not over the top. We had a safe available. We could also leave our luggage for the day when we had to check out as our fight was in afternoon. Would definitely consider staying again.

First time in Amsterdam and this hotel impressed! The staff were lovely and friendly, one in particular mapped out great areas of interest and intrigue which did not disappoint! Would definitely choose to stay here again!

I hada great time there. The staff are brilliant and the place is cool looking. The rooms are small but they do a good job with the space. I’d go here again.

I love this hotel! The staff was wonderful and very helpful. They had great recommendations for food nearby, and were very accomodating for my early check in. The room was a good size for one person, plenty of space for me to unpack my suitcase. Bathroom is a bit small, you wouldn't want more than one person in there at a time getting ready, but again, perfect for one person. Loved the breakfast in the morning, and the neighborhood that it was in. Very close to the tram and a 5-10 minute walk from the metro. Would absolutely stay here again!

I stayed 2 nights with my friend. I had no complaints about the location and friendly stuff. But the room was smaller than I expected eventhough we upgraded to bigger room. Though the room was charming and clean. The stairs were amazingly steep but this is common in Amsterdam. So it was one a fun experience 😁👍They have tasty coffee at breakfast and at the lounge too! Good for a trip with friends!

Very friendly staff with lots of tips, did everything they could to help on our holiday. I’ve never had hotel staff before that were so helpful. The hotel itself is nice and cosy, the room is smaller than expected but these are traditional Amsterdam buildings, and the rooms are big by these standards. Nice light breakfast every morning with juices, croissants, fruit and other treats. Location wise, the hotel is perfect, right next to all the popular museums and plenty of restaurants and shops nearby.

Cute and thoughtful hotel for travelers looking for intentionality, not space. The rooms were very well laid out and designed with purpose, and even though small, they included desks and windows. Two slats in the blinds were broken in one room but we kept the windows open and blinds extended during our stay and had no problem. Breakfast is simple and consistent. If you’re looking for more options, skip the breakfast at the hotel and head elsewhere.

Extremely overpriced. It’s charming like a cute old style hotel (Jane New York vibes) but horribly expensive. We came with our baby and were offered zero help with the very steep stairs (though the staff were friendly). The lift was tiny which meant lots of queuing at busy times. The room looked really cute and rustic in the pictures but in reality the floor is plastic. The bed is super comfortable though!

Super small claustrophobic room. No. A.c. so if it's over 20 degrees it will be stale hot air- AND the windows do not open. Very "the shining" vibe - red carpet wall to wall with wood paneling and lots of gold mirrors, narrow halls. Super sweet staff, and a really nice and redone (and air conditioned) lobby. The bathroom is so small the sink and the towel holder are less than 1 foot so if you are over 5 foot tall you will hit your head. Completely understand it's an old structure so some rooms are narrow and small. The lobby was redone so well compared to all the rest of the hotel. It might be for you, the location was great but if you are tall, don't like small spaces or it's over 20 degrees it might not be the place for you. We couldn't stay after 20+ hours of flights because we really needed rest and ended up getting a different hotel elsewhere.

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights. Very comfortable bed, good sized room which includes a small safe if you need one and plenty of outlets for plugs if you need to charge your phone or other devices. The staff were extremely helpful particularly when it came to leaving our bag with them on check-out as our flight wasn't until later the same day.

  • 2/5 Jen C. 1 year ago on Google
You pay for the location with this hotel (which is admittedly very good). Group of 3 friends, beware of what triple you book as there are 2 types on the website. We ended up with a double bed (NOT a king size as advertised) and a ‘sofa bed’, which was tiny, doesn’t fold down flat and the mattress topper is a poor attempt to make it more comfortable. The room was minuscule, but clean on a positive note. We only had towels for 2 people, and we never received the 3rd set. Staff were nice, and cocktail hour from 6-8 is a good deal (if they have the ingredients for the cocktails). Amsterdam is of course expensive for accommodation, but would only recommend to stay here of you get a good deal.

The place was very nice and convenient! The location is great, close to a lot of museums and to the center too. The room was very cozy but small. Too bad there was no fridge, even at the reception. Finally, we would have liked to be informed about the city taxes which are VERY HIGH far before, not when we checked out :-/

  • 1/5 Adi W. 1 year ago on Google
To whom it may concern, Don't expect fairness or efforts from this hotel for the benefit of customers... Found a good deal on their website, sent it (a print screen with the original offer) via mail for clarifications regarding additional taxes, around 14:30 got answered the next day after nudging them. Been told that I can not book this since prices have changed. "We do our best to make sure our prices are the best you’ll find on the web. If you do find a better deal, please just let us know. We’ll be happy to match it for you"- this disclaimer is from the hotel's site....well that's a lie..

Excellent location! Close to many museums and they offer bike rentals as well. Eileen went above and beyond to ensure I was accommodated. She offered helpful suggestions for touring Amsterdam and made my stay here pleasurable :) I will be back again!

My sister and I stayed at Max Brown Hotel for a city break. It was the ideal location, a really quick walk to everything you wanted to see. We got to the hotel at 10am and I asked if we could keep our bags there as we were not due to check in till 3pm but our room was ready early! It was great. The staff are all super friendly and willing to help. Just a great experience overall. Will recommend to friends and if I’m ever in Amsterdam again will 100% stay there.

The good part was the service and the location. The staff was very nice and helpful. No complications with the check-in or check-out, even though we checked out very early in the morning. The location is great. Many museums nearby, a tram station, and a short walk to get into the city. There are also many restaurants nearby. The hotel and the room were nicely decorated. Yes, the room was small, but that wasn't surprising and had a nice charm. Now to the not-so-great stuff. The first few days were alright. The walls were very thin, so there was a lot of noise. Our last 2 days/nights were horrible. One night, our neighbours were knocking on their door very aggressively, closing it very loudly multiple times after midnight. I didn't sleep a lot that night. If this happened only on one night, I wouldn't care. But the next night was even worse. There were multiple people running around, laughing, knocking on doors, and talking very loudly. After midnight, I had enough and went down to the reception. The staff went up with me to the second floor. There was a girl talking on her phone in the middle of the hallway with a bottle of wine in her hand. Shouting. The staff told the girl to be quieter and went back down. After a few minutes, it was a little bit quieter, but then everything started from the beginning. Shouting, running, and knocking. I tried my best to ignore it and go to sleep. Then, at 4 o'clock, it was still extremely noisy. I had enough, went outside, and told the people to be quieter. It didn't help very much, only for a few minutes. Then I gave up and just accepted that I would not get any sleep this night. I am sorry to leave such a review, but it was by far my worst experience. It's okay if it's a little bit noisier, but I felt like there was a party throughout the whole night. Maybe I was just unlucky, but this is not acceptable, and the staff should also have heard this noise and could have handled it.
