Great place! The food, the coffee is great, and so are the staff. As an aged 30+ woman I was thrilled to have found out I was on the top bunk. But i was pleasantly surprised to find the beds were so comfy! The shower was also great! And there is a "shop" only next door so you don't need to hunt for somewhere to buy from.

I knew this hostel but stayed at other hostel always. On this time, I stayed for the first time, and understand why they got good reviews. Friendly staffs and well organized system. Average high teens - 20s, so if you don’t like high school atmosphere, better other hostel. Kids are always playing on the corridor.

Great base for wandering the city with a chip shop and burger store for those who hardly leave the coffee shop and have exhausted the bar menu. Rooms looking a bit dated and a few minor repairs required here and there but if you just crashing and showering it's about what you'd expect for the money. This review is a bit perplexing for me. Excellent water pressure and water temperature, and a good size comfortable room for Europe, with comfortable beds. However, all of this is undone by what appeared to be an open air night club next door. The noise from this establishment was outrageous. It certainly made sleeping hard on our arrival night which was a Sunday, however on Monday the establishment was not open thus there was no noise coming from there. In addition to that most of the patrons of the “hostel” (and I say hostel because that is how they refer to it in the lobby at check in) are of a young age, and as expected they tend to be loud. Unfortunately our room was near the elevator and you could hear loud people at all hours of the night. It also did not help that I was on the 4th floor where there is a roof top terrace and it tends to be busy. The location of the hostel is also great and bad at the same time. It’s walking distance from grand central, with lots of restaurants and stores in the area. But then you have it right across the river from the red light district and it is located on a block full of coffee shops, so you sorta have to know what you’re getting into. However, right behind it is the royal palace and tons of great shopping areas. If noise was not an issue, this would be a great place!

Will definitely be coming back. Awesome vibe and central location. Security is friendly and trustworthy, and their private rooms are stylish and comfortable.

I really loved this place. It is the most central hostel in the Red Light District. I stayed in a 8-female room and my bed was right in the windowsill so I could watch people walking down the street while sitting on my bed. The staff is incredibly nice and accommodating. And the breakfast is good with bread, meats, cheese, eggs and juice. They have live jazz bands during the week in the coffee shop and it was one of my favorite things I did while in Amsterdam.

Brilliant hostel. Super warm greeting by the lady at check-in. The rooms were airconditioned (shocking for Europe!) and the bedding was really comfortable and the private lockers were spacious. The rooftop smoking area was a nice spot to hangout. Super central and in walking distance to pretty much everything you need to see/do.

Coffee shop is great. Wide selection. Staff is very polite, especially one of the guys - Ben. It’s quite busy usually, but that is to be expected considering the location. Pricing is similar to other coffee shops.

Location was ideal, very close to many pretty places. Beds were comfortable but the floor and bathrooms didn't feel the cleanest. Most of the staff were very nice and I felt safe while my stay there and it was cool that we got a sticker with the logo of the place on it when we checked out. Having visited The Bulldog Hotel many times over the years and tried their different rooms I feel ready to submit my review of what I think of the hotel in Amsterdam. Firstly it is in a very good location but do not bother getting a taxi here because on the narrow roads, it's better just to walk from the Centraal train station and it's about a ten-fifteen minute walk. The receptionist is always very friendly and is happy to help where they can, they are very knowledgeable about the area and can even sell tickets for you to go on a boat tour. There is a restaurant/bar deeper inside the hotel and you can smoke cannabis there but no tobacco. You can order some of the best food in Amsterdam here and I like that there are plenty of places I can charge my devices and it's great to be able to chill after a long day of travelling. Going upstairs there is a choice of dorm rooms or private rooms. You can use either the stairs or the lift. The dorm room is spacious and you have a toilet there to share with everyone. I didn't mind people there and I found the place to be safe while I can understand that there were strangers in the room with you everyone kept to themselves and no problems were caused. When I stayed in the private room I thought this was lovely and the bed was very comfortable and there was a lot of space especially to put my luggage in. They use euro plugs but they are easy to get and I once forgot to bring any and the reception were so kind to get that for me.

When we arrived at this hotel we got our keys straight away and went up to our room, we were so disappointed with the quality of the room altogether. The walls were disgusting with stains, dirty marks and chips out of the paint. The carpet was filthy and the bathroom floor looked as though it had a layer of limescale over it. The overall interior of the hotel was just so old and run down it’s in serious need of a refurbish. We eventually got reception up to have a look at our room and she proceeded to tell my partner and I that all the rooms were like this but she would have a look for another room. We got moved to a room which was slightly better, still not great but better. It had a bath and shower and a lot less dirty stains on the wall. The aircon worked great and the tv also. Although we were on the first floor we couldn’t hear a lot from downstairs which was good too. The facilities of the hotel were okay, there is a bar restaurant which serves decent food and drink. It also has a pool table and gaming tables. In addition, you can also smoke in the bar restaurant until 1/2am and on the balcony on the top floor which is very handy. The location was 10/10, however my partner and I were devastated at the amount of money we paid for this hotel and this was the outcome, nothing in the hotel was really of the standard for what they are charging per night.

Pros: excellent location, luggage storage before/after checkout, security, comfy beds Cons: dirty carpet in room along with foul smell, they took the buttons off the AC unit in the room so we couldnt use it! the “hairdryer” is literally just a dryer for your hands, extremely noisy outside when trying to sleep, 1 male employee working with glasses was so unpleasant upon check in, no common space for guests to hangout besides the rooftop, no kitchen, no guests allowed in rooms.

This was such a fantastic hotel. The rooms are spartan and simple, like any hostel. But the amenities, vibe, restaurant, and staff make it like a really nice hotel. Matthew in the coffeeshop part of the Bulldog was incredibly helpful and so nice. Everyone spoke English and was very friendly.

This is a great hotel to stay in Amsterdam. They have rooms ranging from budget friendly dorm rooms to private rooms as well. The staff is super friendly and super helpful. The bar is the "happening" place in the city. If you're staying here, there is complimentary breakfast as well. I highly recommend this place to anyone travelling to Amsterdam. I spent four (4) nights here. I had a great time. The staff was always helpful, made recommendations to places to eat or see. I stayed the 12 person dorm and met some great people during my visit.

This is a hotel but it has a very robust lounge area with a bar, ample seating, and is mj consumption friendly. I went in by myself as a guy and the male bartender was very friendly (which is rare these days). I’ve been here many times over the past 18 years and it’s always a chill spot to have a drink and toke. Also a pool table which almost always has a lot of activity around it. Also good ventilation considering the consumption. Highly recommend.

What a fantastic experience. The rooms are basic but clean. The staff are super friendly and always happy to help. Breakfast is included and spot on, again it is basic but essentially all you can eat and delicious which is great when you look at the price you're paying. Situated in the centre of the city this is an ideal base for exploring the city and right on the edge of some of the more risqué places without it being on your doorstep (more like next doors doorstep). The bar is well stocked and if you're interested in having a smoke you can but I didn't find it uncomfortable as a non smoker. There is a roof terrace if you don't want to sit down stairs and lots of local info in the lobby to make sure you get the most out of your stay.

Some aspects of my stay there was perfect, some were naah. There are rooms for improvement especially the bathroom and its cleanness. Also, maybe a curfew doesn't hurt, at least for some rooms so that people can choose to stay there and get some sleep (people were making noises till 2-3 in the morning and also from 6). The bulldog hotel is very simple and it has everything most of the young people in amsterdam need. Simple rooms and a good hotel lounge. Mario at the night reception even let us sit inside till the morning, when everything else was closed. A very friendly guy. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel and will come back! Perfect place for backpackers. Located right in the heart of Amsterdam. The staff is very helpful and the toilets and bathrooms are clean as well. The bunker beds are nice and comfortable as well. I think they don't provide locks for the lockers so you should bring them yourself. It would hav been even better if they would've provided towels, liquid soaps etc. I recommend trying the bar ONLY for free coffee, otherwise its too expensive

This is a great hostel for those who are die hard stoners. Whilst the rooms are clean, the bathrooms less so. The general vibe of the hostel is chill too. But the bar downstairs can be very overwhelming. I don't reccomend having your first experience in their coffeeshops as the person serving didn't take much time to explain anything or chat to us and check on us. I would suggest taking the 20 mins on the train to go to sloterdijk and the coffee shop there is fantastic. Would stay again if with a bunch of friends and the main reason is to party, but I wouldn't stay again if it was a weekend away.

I've stayed in this hostel twice in the 8-10 person mixed dorms and I really recommend it. The staff are so welcoming and friendly, the beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean. It was really hot when I stayed there recently, but there was air conditioning in the room which was amazing. The lockers in the rooms are big but you should bring your own padlocks as they don't come with any. Really love the common areas such as the rooftop and the bar, very chilled atmosphere. The location is brilliant too, right in the centre and not far from all the main attractions.

If I could give zero stars I would. I booked a female only dorm in the hostel with three friends. We were put in a 12 person dorm with 8 men. Also one of our beds was filthy dirty from the previous guest. We went downstairs to complain and we were told we booked a mixed dorm room and nothing could be done for us. The staff member was a bald man with glasses he severely lacked communication skills and simply did not want to try move us into female only dorms even though it is what we booked and we voiced we felt unsafe. Poor service. Cleanlinesses clearly is not something they thrive themselves on. If you are booking a female only dorm make sure you have it in writing in a confirmation email from the hostel or they will simply lie and say you’ve made a mistake and will not help you. We ended up having to book another hostel last minute.

The hotel is good if you want to stay on party. Maybe it’s a hostels Breakfast is cheap. Rooms has no mini bar. They don’t do the bed. The staff is nice.

Nice hostel in the city near all main touristic places. You can go everywhere walking. Good double room, nice shower, bed sheets etc. There is a restaurant at the ground floor, with good food, drinks, perfect to relax and rest. All staff friendly and helpful.

If it’s your first time in Amsterdam I’d recommend checking out the iconic Bull Dog! It’s a decent spot and always packed! Went multiple times in a week but the 5th night was told needed a room and the security was extremely rude - won’t return there as many options

The hostel has a good centric location but it wasn't worth the money. The hostel was seriously lacking in cleanliness. The carpets looked as if they had never been cleaned, and had only 1 shower and toilet to be shared with 12 other people in the room

Very clean, very secure, quite cheap (26€ a night), nice staff members! With possibilities of women-only rooms, which is nice There’s a coffee shop within the hostel where you can chill, eat some good food and of course smoke if you want. Cute rooftop as well

Clean beds, nice lockers, great location. However, the carpeting does not seem to be clean, the beds are very close together, and the shower looks like something’s out of a prison. The drinks at the bar lounge were very expensive. The breakfast was great and at least there is an elevator.

Rooms were basic but comfortable, nothing to complain about. Beds comfy, bathroom has all you need. Rooms very red themed. Hotel location was great, right in the middle of everything. Coffee shop wasn't the cheapest but that's expected. Attracts a certain type of folk and definitely not the cheapest around...

Never too crowded in the coffee shop. Bulldog feels like the Starbucks of green coffee shops but the quality is great (🥬). This company is consistent with this quality and has very friendly associates. Did not stay/visit the hotel.

The place is good for hanging out but terrible if you are looking at a place to stay. The staff was very chill and friendly. They work a little bit slow but i think that is a general thing. The room was half-clean. There were no soap in bathroom. Yok can hear literally any sound from surroundings. Roommates are generally drunk/high tourists which are about to disturb you in the middle of the night. The reception bar was cool and the musics were fine.

Loved this place mostly for the area. So many food options, shopping options and other things to see and do. I would recommend staying here if you want some place close to the attractions of Amsterdam. The video are just the area around the hotel and not the hotel itself.

Top and super friendly front desk staff and security guards. Hotel well located in the center of everything with many options to eat, drink and smoke nearby. Lounge area was the place of choice, top location, fantastic space to smoke, drink and eat. The table service and some of the employees (not all) of the Lounge were the weak point, some were a little unfriendly and many times we wanted to order and they said they couldn't take orders and you had to get up to go and order directly to the bar, other times they said they couldn't take orders because they could only clean the table and that it had to be with another colleague not even making the effort to warn the other colleague and leaving immediately. Overall it was a very positive stay due to the location of the hotel the room and front desk staff. I would definitely return but just note that the service in the Lounge has much to improve.

Staying at the Bulldog Hotel was my favorite part of being in Amsterdam. Yes, Amsterdam is great and cool, but getting to know the people who worked at the Bulldog was the highlight of my trip and I was only there for a total of 4 nights (spread apart). I would definitely suggest staying here! Gave 4 starts for the room just because of how the bathrooms are designed. Anything I brought in the bathroom would get soaked while I showered because of how the bathroom was designed. Other than that, the beds were comfy and clean. The hotel was clean. The staff were incredible and the location was amazing!!

A very nice Hotel in the center of Amsterdam, The rooms are very clean and have all facilities, TV, internet and hot water , There is also an elevator to go up to the floors, on the ground floor there is a fully equipped bar where you can enjoy a snack or a drink or even get a breakfast which is amazing The staff is polite and willing to serve you with any question,Especially the hotel managers Jim and Robert are simply the best. Thank you for your hospitality. I hope to meet again sometime.

Great staff and clean dorms! The location is great too, 1 min walk to the red light street and 15 min walk to the train station. The breakfast buffet is worth it, 6 euros and you get eggs, bread, cheese, meat, milk, coffee, juice, etc. strongly recommend!

We went to the lounge for food and drinks to smoke a joint. The food and drinks were really great, we had the cheese croquettes and the bitterballen. We drank a few cocktails which were very well made. The clientele was laid back and there was a pool table available for 2 euros.

The location was great, the room had working AC and clean bed/towels. The hotel was generally quiet and no problems with any outside noise. The hotel also had a good bar where you can smoke, drink and eat. The only downside is the breakfast, yes it’s cheap but all you get is basically a hand and cheese sandwich.

Visited with my boyfriend. We stayed in the deluxe suit room at the top of the hotel which was clean & very nice with a beautiful canal view window. Amazing location and atmosphere, truly welcoming and friendly staff (Manuel and Fatu where both so lovely!) Ideal for smokers and younger couples who want a comfortable and fun holiday. Thank you so much for our amazing stay! P.s the bar and waiting staff in the lounge where also very kind :) definitely coming back soon!
