Terrible service. Only received one key for a 6 person group. Dirty bed, sheets, room and bathroom. DO NOT book a 14 person room. The bottom bunks were infested with bed bugs. Me and travel mates were covered in bites. Lots of noise at night, no AC so you must keep the windows open. Location was decent, walking distance of the good museums and bars. I do not recommend.

Absolutely TERRIBLE. DO NOT give any business to these a-holes. I’ve never stayed anywhere worse in Amsterdam. I had decided to not stay and they would not refund the 130€ which is absurd. No wonder they only accept cash because they know I would get the money back on a credit card. The rooms smell, the place is dirty, no elevator, no lockers, and they make you pay for a towel when you’re paying €130 to be in a room with 6+ people. Ridiculous.

The WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! It’s summer and it’s super hot and there is NO air conditioning or fan, the windows of the room are opened and you can hear all clubs, bars and parties noise. There is no lockers so all guests stuff are on the floor, the bathroom stinks horribly, there is no respect with the guest at all.

The hostel overall was Ok. I didn't get bitten by any bedbugs however I did see two. Had the 16 bed dorm to myself the first night which was nice and the staff were nice. However at no fault to the hostel (they managed it well) someone with sleep apnea was in my room and it was the loudest snoring I have ever heard, I got no sleep. The next day they moved him to another room.

Creepy people. Dirty rooms and wc. Liers gangsters staff and kind of criminal activity, so after I realised that Ive just cancelled my next day reservation. And they have tried to charge me on my credit card without any permission an amount 5x bigger than the cost for a single night. So be careful they're experts scammers

Dirty hostel. Dodgy about payments also. Book + pay through booking.com, then when we arrive they ask us to pay cash on arrival as they said the first payment (€120 for one night lol) was just security payment and would be refunded (still not received). They wanted cash, or we had to pay 5% card fee. I didn't trust to pay cash. We were put in a 12 rooms dorm, which I didn't expect to be amazing, but all the beds were seemingly taken. The beds that seemed to be ours didn't have any sheets and the mattresses were dirty. You can't rent towels, you have to buy them. We were woken up at 8am from large group, staff on reception refused to help. Good if you are a big group and don't care. Bad if you're anyone else.

Before booking you should know that the state of the rooms (14 beds for one shower/bathroom) is questionable. No ventilation so the only option is to sleep with the window open as 14 people in 10sqm makes is a real life oven, not always ideal when it is 5 degrees outside and raining… the sheets aren’t particularly clean and you are given a sheet and a dirty duve. The floor isn’t clean either( not even hovered). There are no lockers so don’t bring anything valuable. A part from that nothing bad happened but information to take into account before booking that I wish I knew .

Me and my friend stayed there for one night. The location is great, near the center. It is located in the partystreat tough. If you're not into partying and just want to sleep, it's not the place for you. The rooms were okay but not very clean. For the price we expected more. We had cheaper and cleaner hostels just a few hundred meters away.

I read a lot of reviews before our stay so I think that’s why I was pleasantly surprised. We had a good experience with the staff, the people in our room, and it was nice to have a bathroom in our room. I didn’t love being on the third level of the bunk bed especially in front of the window without the blackout curtain. The noise from outside was definitely intense until about 5am. Our room was not that dirty considering there were 14 people in our room. We did have to share the bathroom with all 14 people but it worked out for the most part.

Worst hostel I've ever seen in my life. beds are very old. The chipboard under the bed is broken, you feel the iron under it while you lie down. Do not sleep on the bottom left bed at the entrance of the fourteen-person room!

Overpriced, and no lockers in room. Made of a lads holiday, more spicificy cave men. No blinds, they had a mattress against the window. Very smelly. The stairs is also deadly dangerous, it's a 65 degree incline with a corner. Only excepts cash- perfect for the tax fraud. You wouldn't swing a cat where you make your food, speaking of cats they also feed cats where the guests are meant to eat! They don't even get a clean plate. Service was questionable! Amsterdam was a lovely place to visit, we just hated coming home. Again, so over priced.

It smells a bit, and it's not as clean as it could be. But you know what, it's a hostel in a really busy area and the Location is close to stuff and it's really cheap so you can't complain too much. They have a very attractive cat who lives there and watches you eat. Seems like a nice guy but he can and will bite you. I watched him basically murder these two Spanish guys.

It’s cozy, comfortable and hygienic. Should start accepting online payments or card payments. It was a good stay however the breakfast options can be improved or at least allow the people to cook for themselves. You guys need to keep personalised lockers too, very important. Every time going to the reception with heavy luggage doesn’t make sense.

Fellow travelers, brace yourselves for a horror story disguised as a night's stay at what I'd affectionately term "The Stink Palace" in Amsterdam. If Dante had added a hostel to his circles of hell, this would be it. Upon entry, the olfactory assault hits you like a freight train: a symphony of odors ranging from sweaty socks to forgotten cheese left to mature for centuries. The ambiance? Imagine a mixture of a landfill and a teenager's gym bag after a month-long sports tournament. The rooms, oh, the rooms! One might assume they doubled as biohazard testing grounds. The stench? It had the audacity to linger like an uninvited guest with a penchant for overstaying their welcome. I believe the decor was a fusion of '70s abandonment chic, with an underlying theme of "hygiene is a myth." The facilities didn't just lack cleanliness; they seemed to actively rebel against it. If grime were a form of art, this place would be the Louvre of filth. In summary, I departed this peculiar slice of paradise feeling both relieved and astounded. For those seeking an immersive, albeit traumatic experience in sensory overload, The Stink Palace will etch itself into your memory forever. For others who value hygiene, I'd strongly suggest considering a tent in the nearby park instead.

I was bit concerned when before coming here and reading the reviews. But my impression during 4 nights I stayed here is quite different. First location: location is great, specially is you come to hang out, there's lot of bars and restaurants nearby, transport is close, metro is just few minutes by walk, central station 20min by walk (Amsterdam is small). Staff: staff was polite and very helpful, clear with the rules, they helped me I had a problem with AGODA reservation, it went Tru Booking, luckily the staff found it and no problem. Rooms are always clean, I stayed at room 4, bathroom is big, always with liquid soap and toilet paper, it was a 16bed room, lot of space, beds of course small but enough for me, the mattress and sheets were white clean, no traces on UV light, no bedbugs, I leave my stuff there while working, no problems at all, they are cleaning the room and changing the trash bag every day. 100% recommended!!!

Dodgy cash only place and there's hidden costs in the small print which don't show up on the receipts on hostel world (or wherever you're booking) which might be for tax avoiding purposes and judging by the other reviews, it seems like they got card payments taken away from them for charging cards twice. Dark, ugly and right outside the noisiest street ever. If you're going to Amsterdam, I'd recommend just saving up a little extra for a hotel room as most people who come here are really gross and on drugs.

Mixed rooms, which is not ideal for female travellers. There was also a complaint by another traveller about bed bugs in their room, however our room was clean. The beds are quite small and it is better to bring your own covers, as the hostel does not provide any. We talked to a young couple in our room who had to pay a fee to leave their luggage before checking in, we did not. However, we had to pay about 100 euros more than the hostel was offered on booking. The location was great, many great bars and coffeeshops right next to the hostel. It is noisy at night but nothing a pair of earplugs can't solve. There was also a cat hanging around which was kind of nice. All in all it was an overpriced stay, we won't come back.

My food was stolen from the fridge and was not offered help or compensation when this happened. Was literally only in the fridge for 45 mins before it was stolen. Tiny bed frames, fantastic location and nice guy at the desk however not the best hostel, also no real kitchen to cook anything and I’m 98% sure I now have bed bugs. Don’t recommend this place

I arrived at the hotel and they tell me to pay in 2 days. I answered, I'm not a fool when I need to sleep for 3 hours and go on a plane. I canceled the reservation and found another one. I will never rent from them in my life. also require cash only. it's just pure fraud.

If you like bed bugs, unwashed sheets and stinky, sticky rooms book here... Was booked for 3 nights but left after 1 (with no refund) due to the conditions.... It right above a heap of bars and clubs so very loud which was expected but due to no ventilation windows had to be open so was even louder...

Rude staff, smelly rooms, a dangerous three storey staircase to climb to get to your room,, and an overall lack of cleanliness. And oh yeah. Bed bugs. I've got bites all over me from a 1 night stay. I strongly suggest staying somewhere else.

Worst hostel in Amsterdam. The receptionist was very unwelcoming. The room was smelling weed. The shared space was freaking cold. They won't even take the time to send you the bill they can't print by email even after sending many requests (so I could not refund by my airplaine company). Pass your way and go somewhere else !!

Hello to all the people who one day want to visit Amsterdam, and that's why they are reading the reviews of the place. Well, I want to start talking about Amsterdam Hostel Leidseplein and how horrible it is to stay there. And for me it is really very important to leave this review here to prevent other people excited to have an unforgettable experience in Amsterdam from being frustrated, because this hostel will leave you scared, the staff are very rude and very arrogant, they are terrible at welcoming a guest. Please do not spoil your stay in Amsterdam by going to this hostel and besides the hostel does not have good acoustics, but the city is perfect, it's beautiful.

This place was exactly what I was looking for. With lowest prices in the area at the time (I’m a young budget traveler) and a great location this place was really good. It’s located 30 seconds from a tram line that takes you everywhere, the main area, central station, a museum area and more. There is every type of cuisine close to it, and a great night life in walking distance so it’s super fun if you want to go out! In this place you get what you pay for, so don’t expect 5 star rooms and beds changed every day, but for a good price I’d say the slight grungy nature of the place is 100% worth it, and adds to the areas charm. The staff were really great, super helpful and friendly, but are dead sick of people not reading their confirmation email 😂 (check in is at 3, no body seemed to have read that) Overall, I thought this place was good, and a perfect stay if you’re not nit picky about the hostels quirks.

Pretty gross honestly. So hot in the room, holes in the walls, and the staff were unhelpful. Watched a guy tidy the beds and all he did was put on a flat sheet and fold the duvet… there were stains on mine so obviously it wasn’t clean.

Nice staff service. It is worth for this location. Bathroom is pretty ok for the hostel. You can enjoy lots of food, attraction on this street.

If you’re looking to stay in a place where the bed sheets crawl, this is the place for you. Dirty sheets, holes in the wall, unhelpful staff, this place is a dingy sweatshow. Located above a night club you’ll be kept up most hours of the night. You’d have to be very drunk or stoned to fall asleep here. Good luck to those considering this place for when they visit beautiful Amsterdam.

Literally the worst hostel I’ve ever been in. Bed BUGS + rude staff + massively overpriced for new years. Just a scummy and dirty dirty place. DO NOT GO!!! Bed sheets didn’t look like they had been washed and really weird about payment. Only took this one photo but honestly it’s a terrible place.

Very unpleasant stay, there are bedbugs in the dorms. I made a terrible allergic reaction, I called the hotel and they told me to write an e-mail (which I’ve done) but the staff refuses to answer the several e-mails I wrote after this bad experience. This is so disrespectful… This place is noisy, smelly, dirty, and the manager doesn’t even respect the customers enough to reply when there’s a health issue like that. On top of that, it’s expensive. Trust me, go somewhere else

Place absolutely to avoid, in the middle of the night there were RATS running around the room and through our staff. We asked to leave with a refund because we only spent one night there but they refused. Worst experience ever in a hostel

I WILL NEVER GO THERE !!!!!! due to COVID-19 they closed the borders and I was not able to travel, like none of us. For about 3 months I tried to call for a refund and sent emails that are on their website and I didn’t get a response. In case you need them you can just call the reception and get a very frivolous and unprofessional service. I am deeply disappointed! I am 100% sure that I will never be their guest and I would not recommend anyone not to be left without their own money just like me!!!

On the night of December 1, the blonde one of our staff behaved very rudely and her style was not pleasant at all. According to the camera records, he did not change our room when we complained that he was rude and said that foreigners had entered our room. That's why we called the police, although he didn't follow people in. He didn't do his job and asked us to check out of the hotel because we were going to call the police. A rude Antipotic Staff who says he is catalan

I visited this hostel several times. The rooms are cheap, sometimes you can also get rooms spontanous on the same day. The hostel has more than 10 rooms on 3 different floors. The room has the bed, sockets on each bed for charging your devices. The bath in my room was ok. Clean, minimalistic, soap at the sink. You can spend time at the reception. You have some space for working or being together with your other room mates, and that‘s the place for eating, because you‘re not allowed to eat on the rooms. Breakfast is included between 8-9 am. You‘ll get tea, coffee, and peanut butter, marmalade and chocolate cream with bread. You‘ll have to leave the rooms till 10. if you don‘t leave till 10:30, you don‘t get the 10 € reposit back. Btw, don‘t keep stuff in the rooms. Some people took some food and things from me. It‘s not the responsibility of the hostel. Keep in mind.

I was forced to pay in cash (without a receipt), I arrive in my room and there are no usable beds, so they give me "clean" sheets and I had to put them on the bed. Room bathroom not accessible because there is vomit everywhere, even if reported to the hotel staff, they only clean it the next day. Beer on the floor, in the room you can't sleep from the stench. My brother had blood on his sheets. I slept next to a bed that had three people in it who slept with their shoes touching my pillow. But he also has flaws.

  • 3/5 georgia m. 1 year ago on Google
Staff were friendly and the location is phenomenal. For the price it is good. Bed had some stains but were clean, rooms large enough for the amount of people staying in them and good ventilation. Though we were sharing one bathroom with 13 other people, we never had to wait as we weren’t all in the room at the same time. It definitely does the job and is a place to stay for the night, wasn’t blown away but I also wasn’t disappointed

  • 1/5 Konrad B. 1 year ago on Google
Worst night in my life, didn't sleep even an hour. Because of the location at a street with multiple pubs it was unbelievable loud in a room until 6am. On top of that, the room at the attic was unbearably hot with absolutny no ventilation / AC / or even a simple fan. Do not go there until you absolutely have to.

  • 3/5 Landon F. 2 years ago on Google
A little dirty and the room was smelly. NO LOCKERS have to leave your bag with reception if you have valuable. In downtown Amsterdam which has a big night life. If you're looking for somewhere to get a good rest it's probably not your spot. People coming and going at all hours of the night which is typical for a hostel.

Clean, safe, as comfortable as these places can get. You get what you paid for. It’s located right in the heart of the city, with many restaurants and entertainment within a short distance. I would go back. They will hold on to your belongings for safekeeping if you so require

Absolutely terrible they have a tourists price and a regular EU citizen price they tried a tourist scam on me when I wanted to book another night they said it would be 369 euros and they were the cheapest and the first night I paid 69 euros it’s terrible dirty like motel I went across the street 5 min walking to another hostel called stay okay it was newer clean nice and had breakfast for 9euro in morning only 63 Euro without breakfast there a night. Tried scamming me

Very good location, nice staff, comfy beds. Due to fact we stayed in a 14 person room the toilet was blocked the entire time we were there and was quite gross. Also some strange guests who don’t have good personal hygiene. other than that it’s a good basic hostel in a lively area.

Worse hotel I have ever encountered, mistakenly my brother booked the hotel while playing with my mobile however I cancelled it immediately within a minute but still they charged me fully. Despite of explaining the scenario and agreed to charge for 1 night and to refund rest days they refused. They refused to refund my money. As per the hotel policies cancellations will be charged for 1 night, they made the rule and they are not following. #POOR HOTLE #POOR SERVICE #POOR POLICIES NOT STICKING TO THEIR WORDS #FRAUD SHAME ON YOU

Let's focus on the hostel itself, not it's surroundings. Terrible place, linens weren't clean or changed from last guest before me (I saw hairs that weren't mine). I told the guy in the front desk, not helpful at all, told me everything else was booked. I decided to stay and flip the mattress... Way worst. In the end, they offered me a bed at Uptown -a other hostel a block away but same owner and management. They made me wait for about an hour before I was able to get a bed.

WORST HOSTEL EXPERIENCE EVER!!! Staff unfriendly, rooms dirty, beds had blood stains, guests mysterious, started screaming in the morning due to psychosis. We actually booked 4 nights but left after 1 night because we felt so uncomfortable. Also NOT recommended alone as a woman!!

BEDBUGS! Do not stay here there are bedbugs. They moved us to another room that was clean, but it did not make up for the fact that we had been bitten up by bed bugs. The bathroom in our first room wash dirty, with toilet paper scraps all over the floor. There were old cosmetics stuck to the wire shelf in the shower. While they moved us rooms, we did not feel comfortable staying another night, at the risk of bedbugs infesting again. They did not offer a refund, instead we now have to request one from management. The front desk was super rude, and not understanding about why we did not want to stay there another night. It was overpriced to begin with with the rooms lacking storage for belongings. The location is quite central which is nice, but it is loud at night. Would not recommend.

Upon arrival, the workers were extremely rude and gave me funny looks; they continued to talk with one another and whsiper. While I am not fluent in Dutch, I caught a few words; these words being "gross american" and "fat slob". While I have been letting go with my diet recently, I don't deem it necessary to comment on my weight. Also, the rooms were extremly smelly, with sticky residue on all surfaces. Never coming here again. This hotel ruined the continent of Europe for me

Very nice stay, all of the staff was extremely kind, helpful, all spoke English, and really accomodating in general. The receptionist was super kind and explained everything to us. They let us leave our bags after check out, and there are useful amenities at the reception (microwave, hot water, free coffee, free tea). Just make sure to bring yo your own towel. The place is well situated, in the middle of the city and close restaurants, a grocery store (albert Heijn) , mcdonalds, and public transport. Very good value for money.

This place reeks and has 0 ventilation, feels extremely unsafe and has stains on bedsheets. Have seen multiple bedbugs and someone in my room was discussing scabies🤢. Too loud because of the bars below but in a gem location, no curtains. Would not recommend. 👎🏼

Everything others say is true We wanted to sleep there for 4 nights, and actually only slept there because we wanted to see the city and, among other things, party in the evening. We really just needed a place to sleep. But you don't even want that. The room is incredibly dirty, it stinks, the window can be closed but if the window were open you wouldn't notice any difference as it is incredibly leaky and the hostel is located above some clubs. The showers were dirty and really bad, hardly any water came out of the shower head. When we actually wanted to sleep, I discovered a hand-sized blood stain on my blanket that I hadn't noticed before because the blanket was folded so that the stain couldn't be seen. When we were woken up from our room the next morning by a man who was probably suffering from psychosis, the woman from the reception was then called, but she wasn't interested and the whole thing was over for us. We “slept” there one night and now never again. I would like to not give a star or write a review but I want to warn others. Guys, we're in our mid-20s and really not used to anything, but this beats everything. So Do yourself a favor, spend €100 more and you'll get really nice, clean and safe hotel rooms. That's how we did it. The woman at reception wasn't surprised by our earlier departure, simply because I think that happens often. Luckily I didn't have any bed bugs but I think that's just because we had one of the upper beds. So Believe me and the other reviews and look for something else!!!!
