Hostel Groenendal

Hotel

😠 Very dissapointing. I made the reservation based on the pictures I saw online and a lot of good reviews. When we got here... well, lets say the room looked nothing like in the pictures, there was a strong smell of weed and, I don't even want to mention the showers. The doors were squiking so loud it... People often mention room, breakfast, good, hostel, location, staff, small, great, price, friendly,

Very dissapointing. I made the reservation based on the pictures I saw online and a lot of good reviews. When we got here... well, lets say the room looked nothing like in the pictures, there was a strong smell of weed and, I don't even want to mention the showers. The doors were squiking so loud it could wake up the deads, after all, who needs rest. The included breakfast contained one boiled egg, 2 very thin slices of cheese and some washed out coffe. We stayed in hostels before, but this one doesn't deserves it's money. Will never come back.

The hostel was horrible. It was extremely small, the rooms were completely outdated and there was no place for more than two suitcases. The shower room had 1 square meter and the same for the toilet. The hostel personal was controlling you all the time and the ambiance in general was not good.

I don't know where to start, but I'll start with the positive: There were NO rats. But there were bugs in the toilets, there was no soap, the towels from the hostel were completely dirty and smeared and you didn't feel much cleaner after showering. The bed covers say something similar to the towels. The carpet everywhere was impossible to walk on without shoes because there was dirt and hair everywhere. (Slippers would be appropriate here). The walls are so thin that any movement in the house wakes you up at night, making it impossible to get a good night's sleep. Additionally, the breakfast was pathetic but not surprising for the price. However, the hostel has a very good location and can be reached within a very short time from the Central Station. The staff were as friendly as possible.

Prime location right on the main shopping strip. Very friendly staff and great customer service. Rooms were dated and simple but for the price, you can’t complain. Basic breakfast consisting of coffee, bread, jam and cheese. Overall, great value if you want to stay in the heart of Amsterdam! Highly recommended!

So this is what 80€ gets you in amsterdam. Hmmm. A bit brothel-ish but friendly staff and decent breakfast. They could stand to buy about 30 liters of oil to grease all the door hinges, would reduce the haunted house feeling.

Stayed in private twin room on the top (4th) floor. Stairs are quite steep. Shared toilet and bathroom facilities. Room had a sink. Toilets and showers were clean but small. Beds are comfortable. Breakfast is basic: tea/coffee, bread, butter, jam. Overall, cheap and cheerful bed and breakfast/ hostel

Service was great and staff were friendly. The hostel is very old and the doors can be a bit loud but otherwise a good spot. Absolutely stoked with the location! 2mins walk from Amsterdam Centraal station and almost any shop you could ask for. Albert Heijn (one of NL's supermarket chains) is 20m walk also!

Although it's a budget hostel, do not expect like a 3 star hotel but for a good place to rest your head and start off early with english breakfast and 5 mins walk to the Amsterdam city train station is good enough! Photo with one of the owner humble polite indian uncle

The floor andthe bed throw were a bit dirty, but the staff were friendly and helpful and a simple breakfast is included. Bear in mind that you'll need to bring cash since they don't take any type of card.

I don't really like the room sizes and I didn't appreciate the shared toilets. But considering the extremely low prize, the friendly employees and especially the location, I'm still very happy with my choice. Perfect for tourists who don't expect great comfort and who are going to spend the daytime outside anyway.

A great location in the city center. The staff are helpful and kind. The breakfast is simple but satisfying. Its a great price for the location. I had a really good and comfortable night sleep. Highly recommend this place.

Bog standard, roof over head, bed and a bit of brekkie. It's central, so you are near all the attractions- museums, restaurants, bars and all the rest. If it's luxury you are looking for, don't bother. If it's cheap and cheerful, then you'll not go far wrong.

The room was surprisingly small but cute, everything was kept very simple and still sufficient. Everything was pretty clean and you quickly got used to the small toilet. The only annoying thing was the non-functioning shower on the floor but at least there was one further down. The staff there was very nice, there was also working WiFi and the breakfast was sparse but still sufficient. The good location was a perfect balance.

My girlfriend (18) and I (17) stayed in this hostel for 3 nights. To be honest, we didn't particularly like it. We were in a room that was (very) dirty (crumbs/tobacco on the floor, the sink wasn't really clean and, above all, the blanket on one of the two beds was dirty and there was hair on it (which is why I spent the whole day without a blanket slept) etc.). The room itself was very small, although we think it depends on how many of you there are in the room, as the room of our neighbors was larger (-> perhaps because there were more people). The view from our room was a disappointment. We had a view of a wall from the house next door, downstairs (between the houses) everything was totally dirty. There is one toilet (very small) and 2 showers for a total of 5 rooms. However, they were kept relatively clean, which is why we decided on 2 stars. We didn't even try the breakfast. In general we can't recommend the hostel, but unfortunately (we don't think) you won't find anything better for this price in Amsterdam (right in the center!).

😐 It is a large, somewhat impersonal, completely unshaded and extremely noisy campsite (we were in the tented section).Noisy because there is a large multi-lane bridge nearby, which is still very busy at night. Also noisy because of the "cigarette smokers". There are no rules and regulations - or if t...
