NOT recommended for inexperienced solo backpackers. There are limited facilities but they are usually clean (though the toilets need air freshener replaced more often). Beds are modern and in good condition. The room I was in was quite large however locker space is very limited. The location is a bit far from the center to be ideal. The kitchen is small for the number of people who use it, having only one set of hotplates. It's okay though. It could be a decent place for a few nights but there are a lot of long stays here. More on that later. The atmosphere here could be seen as entertaining if not particularly safe. There are a lot of single older males here who often drink a lot (encouraged by staff). If you are just passing through the lobby this is probably unlikely to usually become problematic. I'm sure they all have interesting stories but I have enough of my own. I have not had so much cash go missing anywhere in Europe and I have been outside the EU. Admittedly I can be lax with security because I like to know what kind of people are around me. Again, never, ever, anywhere, have I been stolen from more often than at Dutchies hostel. I stayed less than two weeks. The rest of this review is really meant to provide insight to the owner from a peceptive external perspective. First I will talk about a prominent member of staff who I will refer to as "S". Weekday morning routine at this hostel consisted of "S" arriving to the hostel already in a highly agitated state. He would then begin berating other members of staff for minor inconsistencies in the booking system. Obviously in the face of such barely restrained aggression the recipient becomes flustered and the learning center in their brain shuts down. The fellow simply should not be allowed near other staff unsupervised. I am NOT a feminist but I saw behaviour here I consider totally inappropriate. Contact me for details. I don't want to deal with this kind of garbage while I am trying to enjoy my poffertje ontbite tyvm. I'm not sure what Franca does. She is obviously not training staff effectively. From what I observed she just kind of floats around gossiping about guests and handling their privacy and personal information totally inappropriately. I could be wrong but she seems like dead weight. I also have suspicions that staff are involved in thievery and in the concealment of thievery. I was asked to leave the hostel before I was able to meet with the manager about video footage during a window of time when €50 went missing from my room. The footage could have ruled out a member of staff. I did try to make this clear to "S" but he was either blinded by mindless rage or he was intentionally preventing me from being able to view the footage. It does not look good when money goes missing and soon afterwards the staff are drinking €50 of booze and sharing it with their pets. My perspective is that "S" needs (as a minimum) anger management counselling and would be better served by a full psychological assessment. He is also obviously struggling to cope with the stress involved in his workload. The management team would function better with a more productive, level headed and reasonable manager. There is probably somebody suitable already on staff. Ask me for details. Bonus segment. "S" uses alcohol as payment to buy positive reviews and to keep him secure in his position. Undoubtedly staff will be too fearful to say anything negative about him and guests will say positive things about him because he buys them booze. Supposedly using hostel money. To confirm much of what I have said you would need to review video footage or talk to certain members of staff secretly. In any case I hope I have helped. Happy to remove this portion from the review upon request.

Experienced theft in which $300 was stolen from protected money transfer bag in my luggage and several fraudulent charges occurred on my backup card. I arrived early and needed to put my luggage inside the shared luggage storage; the front desk person had opened the shared luggage door and supervised me while I went inside. I was out for six hours and when I came back the front desk person gave me the key to open the luggage room when I was checking in (unsupervised). I found my money transfer bag had been cut open and my belongings stolen. Front desk told me it should have been safe and if I wanted to escalate the issue to the manager. I declined; won’t be staying here or other hostels in the future.

Embarking on my travels, I've had the privilege of discovering numerous destinations across the globe, each with its own charm and character. However, this particular spot stands out distinctly among them, offering an experience that's not just memorable but strikingly unique. From the moment I crossed its threshold, there was an overwhelming sense of familiarity and warmth, akin to the comfort of coming home after a long journey. The hospitality extended by the staff was unparalleled, with special commendations owed to Sinan and Luka. Their efforts to go above and beyond in making my stay delightful were truly remarkable. The attention to detail and the personal touch they bring to their work deserve the highest praise. This establishment thoughtfully caters to every possible need a traveler might have. The reception is a treasure trove of amenities, ensuring that guests have access to everything they might require during their stay. This level of thoughtfulness is a testament to the establishment's commitment to guest satisfaction and comfort. One of the highlights of my stay was the fully equipped kitchen, a feature that is particularly appreciated by those looking to economize while exploring a city as vibrant yet expensive as Amsterdam. The ability to prepare one's own meals not only saves money but also adds a personal touch to the travel experience, allowing for a deeper connection with the local culture and cuisine. The artistic flair of the place is another aspect that left a lasting impression on me. The murals adorning the bathrooms are nothing short of spectacular, crafted by an artist whose talent deserves every accolade. The urge to capture the beauty of these artworks in photographs was irresistible, a sentiment likely shared by many who have had the pleasure of viewing them. Moreover, the ambiance of the place is invigorating, with the lively atmosphere permeating through at all hours. Whether it's the break of dawn or the deep hours of the night, there's a constant buzz of energy that's both inspiring and comforting. The spacious lobby doubles as an excellent coworking space, offering a conducive environment for those looking to remain productive while on the move. It's an ideal setting for sending off a quick email or delving into deeper work, surrounded by the creative energy of fellow travelers. In conclusion, my experience at this establishment has firmly established it as my accommodation of choice for future visits to Amsterdam. The unique blend of warmth, hospitality, convenience, and artistic expression makes it a standout destination, one that I eagerly look forward to returning to for my third stay. See you Dutchies ;) #dutchieshostelreviewcompetition

Would give this place 5 stars were it not for the location which is quite far from the centrum. This is certainly not the fault of the staff of course. Not so crazy about some of the people I shared the room with but this is the wager of any hostel. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean. Lots of showers. The beds comfortable. Locker space was ample. WiFi is very important to me and it was lighting fast. Even the resident cat was friendly. So all in all I highly recommend this one.

One of the worst experiences I had abroad while staying in a hostel. Got robbed the first morning, someone stole my clothes, trainers, underwear, and cash from my backpack while my friend took all his cash - our backpacks were kept in small boxes with a padlock- just to let you know. The receptionist offered zero assistance and he’s like I can call the police but nothing will happen so, accept your fate. Not recommended at all, please pay extra cash and rent in another hostel or a 2-star hotel room.

It's a great place to stay if you are a traveler. It's close to public transport, supermarkets and restaurants. Staff is very welcoming and ready to help you, answer your questions. I came at short notice and they were able to find me a room, so I won't have to wait. The whole theme and design of the hotel is very pleasant and relaxing. I will surely come again if I visit Amsterdam.

Real great place if you're lookong for somewhere cheap bit still clean. Well maintained rooms and a kitchen. Real helpful staff and an easily accessible location. Even has a supermarket nearby. They also offer discount coupons for some of the tourist places in the city.

This hostel is more than you could ever expect! For its low price you get: 1. Clean rooms and facilities 2. Great kitchen 3. FREE access to different games, pool table, arcade console and more 4. Great personel 5. Relaxed atmosphere 6. Free fruits 7. Cool lounge area And so on... The personnel does everything possible to make guests comfortable. I was a witness when a receptionist offered a guest another better room with no additional charges just because there were noisy neighbors. I am sincerely happy I had an opportunity to stay here!

Thieves! You book a 3 bed room in booking then the hostel writes that the price is for one bed only, the hostel wants you to cancel for their mistake and offer to not charge you anything for the cancelation, you cancel then they take the charge for your cancelation, because obviously never gave me the total of the money of the booking back. Definitely, thieves in the modern age!!!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Dutch Hostel during my visit to [destination], and the experience was nothing short of delightful. From the moment I stepped through the welcoming doors, I knew I was in for a warm and inviting stay. The staff at the Dutch Hostel deserves special mention for their exceptional hospitality. Friendly, helpful, and always ready with a smile, they went above and beyond to make me feel at home. Whether I had questions about local attractions, needed recommendations for dining, or simply wanted to chat, they were there with genuine warmth and enthusiasm. The atmosphere of the hostel is both lively and relaxed, creating the perfect balance for travelers seeking a comfortable and social environment. The communal spaces are thoughtfully designed, fostering a sense of community among guests. I particularly enjoyed the cozy lounge area, where fellow travelers gathered to share stories and experiences. It truly felt like a home away from home. My accommodations were clean, comfortable, and tastefully decorated. The attention to detail in the design of the rooms added a touch of charm to my stay. The Dutch Hostel's commitment to cleanliness and hygiene was evident throughout the entire property, providing me with peace of mind during my visit. One of the highlights of my stay was the communal kitchen, where I had the opportunity to connect with other guests over shared meals. The well-equipped kitchen made it easy to prepare my own food, adding an extra layer of convenience to my stay. The Dutch Hostel's central location was another standout feature. With easy access to [landmarks, public transportation, etc.], I found exploring the city a breeze. The staff's insightful recommendations for nearby attractions and hidden gems enhanced my overall experience. In conclusion, my stay at the Dutch Hostel was a truly memorable and heartwarming experience. I highly recommend this charming establishment to fellow travelers seeking a welcoming atmosphere, friendly faces, and a cozy retreat in the heart of [destination]. My sincerest thanks to the Dutch Hostel team for making my stay so special—I can't wait to return! #DutchiesHostelReviewCompetition

Blaise was really nice and helpful when I checked in and throughout my stay. Clean place with bikes you can rent, the nearest station is half a mile away so easy transport links, it's also just a couple miles away from centre. Have lockers under the bed for your stuff, free tea and coffee in kitchen, mini stroopwaffles and even have feminine hygiene products in the bathroom. Definitely recommend!

Well organized hostel, I recommend, staff are generally friendly and helpful, especially a tall male staff working at the front desk, very welcoming and hardworking. Location is good, close to the north bus terminal and tram station. common lounge is cozy. Supermarket nextdoor is a biiig plus!!! It would be better if there is female only dorm, and curtain for privacy

Was a good experience overall but the last day was disapointing. One of the owner managing the place during night shift seemed completly drunk, walked past us while we were siting outside, shouted insults at us. He then came back in, and locked us outside when he wanted to go to sleep , while staring at us through the windows for about 10/15mins. A shame because the place was really nice, clean, with a good mood between inhabitants, but ruined by him.

Really enjoyed staying here, so eclectic and interesting. The staff was excellent, loved the kitchen, great vibes, cool people, wonderful collection of artwork around the hostel, and music played in the lobby. Kept clean, the staff works very hard. Nice walk to everything, but far enough away to get away, can't beat a Lidl right at the doorstep. I studied here as well as socialized, perfect for both. Thank you for your hospitality. Much love ♥╣[-_-]╠♥

This hostel was really good. The staff was great and helpfull throughout. Lidl just across the street really helps. Rooms were just enough. My only down side is the avalibility of toilets as in our experience they were always occupied. Overall +clean +reasonably comfy +friendly staff +well organised -too few toilets

Will be coming here if I go to Amsterdam again. It is not close to the city, but in a good spot. There is a Lidl across the street, some restaurants close, and a tram quite close by. They also offer bike rentals at a decent price. It felt safe, and the staff was very friendly. There was a very well stocked kitchen, and great communal spaces to hang out/eat/socialize. They had a room with Netflix and PS4 as well. The bathrooms were clean, and had shampoo and soap from previous customers. Great spot. Would recommend.

Run! My iPhone was stolen by the staff!!!!! Me and my friends had booked a dormitory for 10 people in mid-November. When I came back from my shower, the cleaning people were there and my iPhone was missing. The staff "helped me look for it", but obviously without success. My phone was reactivated a month later in Amsterdam, which proves that it was not stolen by tourists but by locals. This is unacceptable! I won't stop pestering them until I get a proper answer!

Had the best time! The people are lovely, but the hostel is also great itself. Sufficient space, clean showers and kitchens. The location is ideal since it's near the tram station, and really close to a supermarket. We shopped there and cooked in the kitchen, it was ideal. I hope I'll visit again!

I am so glad I stayed at the dutschies Hostel when I visited Amsterdam! Stepping into the Lobby gave me instant homely vibes. It just feels like a huge Livingroom, in which you can hang out and get to know new people from all over the world or also just to find your own space to come down from a long sightseeing tour. I am super thankful for the inspiring insider tips I received from the friendly staff. The public transport (tram No. 19 - Diemen Sniep) is just a few minutes away and a good connection to the City Center. The room and bathroom were always clean and were cleaned regularly. My personal highlights were the fully equipped kitchen and the impressive and refreshing art crafts, made by young and talented local artists, in the room and even in the hallways to the rooms! Just a few steps away you can find a grocery-supermarket. Perfect conditions for cooking your own dishes! Little side story - Once it happened that I baked waaaay too many pancakes. So we shared them with others and it turned into a great get-together and a beautiful experience! I am still delighted from all the connections I made during our stay. Including the sympathetic and cheerful employees. I can highly recommend the dutschies hostel if you want more than just a place to sleep for sights to see - this is definitely a place-to-be! :-) #DutchiesHostelReviewCompetition

The hostel is great. Everything is absolutely clean and neat. The staff is extremely polite and friendly. You may use a kitchen there with free tea or coffee. If you need , you may leave or things in the luggage room. It is possible to rent bikes there. It was a great pleasure to stay there for a few nights.

Great receptionists and neat lobby area. Super convenient to have a full kitchen though I didn't use it much. Bathrooms were pretty clean and had good amenities. Biggest downsides were how hot the rooms were and how short the beds were. I'm 6ft and had to sleep diagonally on the bed to fit :/

rom the first step through its doors, the staff's genuine warmth transformed my stay into a personal journey, rather than just a temporary stop. My room emerged as a sanctuary, providing tranquility amid the city's hustle. Quirky decor elements painted my stay with a unique brush, creating moments that resonated on a personal level. The meticulous attention to cleanliness ensured each day began with a sense of calm and serenity. The heartbeat of the hostel was its communal kitchen—a vibrant space where shared meals turned into stories and connections. Here, fellow travelers and I wove a tapestry of camaraderie, making my stay a celebration of shared experiences. In summary, Dutchies Hostel isn't merely a place on the map; it's a chapter in my story—a tapestry of unforgettable moments, warmth, character, and the joy of the unexpected. My deepest thanks to the Dutchies Hostel team for curating an experience that transcended the ordinary—I eagerly anticipate the next chapter of my journey with them. DutchiesHostelReviewCompetition

I’m not new to staying in hostels so I didn’t have big expectations booking with this place, but it still managed to disappoint me. The male bathrooms were incredibly dirty, piss everywhere, beer bottles and a bong with weed still in it on the ground. This mess was left there for almost a whole day, despite the hostel stating they check and clean the toilets multiple times a day. The kitchen area wasn’t any different, somehow everything was sticky and dirty. The location isn’t the most ideal either. But the most concerning part of our stay was that there was a guy on some hard drugs lingering the hallways, trying to enter multiple rooms and growling at everyone passing by. When we reported the incident to the staff because we weren’t feeling safe nothing was done about it. Later on that day they finally called the police, but don’t expect them to do anything about it cuz just a few minutes later the crackhead was free, camping in front of the hostel. I strongly advise everyone, especially women to stay away from this place. Might I add it is so not worth the price, it is way too expensive for what it has to offer. Also the showers are lit by motion sensors so you have to be quick if you don’t want to shower in darkness. And there’s a button you have to press for the water to come out, which only lasts for like 10 seconds and you have to keep pressing it for it to work. I know it’s a good way to save water for the hostels but it’s so annoying when you can’t even wash the shower gel off in one go cuz the water keeps stopping.

Great hostel! Nice staff, great rooms, bed, showers, kitchen. No complaints. The only thing that it bothered me was the location, a bit far from the city center (50 minutes walk), other than that, great hostel.

Best hostel I stayed in around Amsterdam out of three during my trip. Good beds with lockers (although the lockers did not seem 100 per cent secure). Fully equipped kitchen which was very refreshing. Lovely vibe as people sat outside on the benches for breakfast and socialised in the evening time. 24 hour reception was essential. Good amenities. No complaints other than price but still was relatively cheap for Amsterdam. Last thing is they had a cat 💗💗

One of the best stays I have had in my trip to Europe. The kitchen has fresh coffee throughout. It's a perfect location. All major bus and tram connection is less than a 6 min walk. If I am ever back to Amsterdam even with my family I'm staying here.

While Dutchie’s is fairly clean (not spectacularly), this hostel leaves a lot to be desired. First of all, the lockers in the rooms only fit a very small bag there was absolutely no way to fit a suitcase or large backpack in there. Second, there was basically no social aspect or community. The staff was nice however there were a bunch of random men always hanging around that weren’t staying there to hang out with im guessing the manager? Not a horrible awful hostel but priced way to expensive for what it could offer.

Ok place to stay, but multiple rooms had no Wi-Fi and the front desk staff didn’t seem to care about helping. Also, I don’t know if it’s normal to tell guests to come around the desk to get their own hair dryer when it was right next to the receptionist, but it’s a strange encounter nonetheless. Actually I’ve been in dozens of hostels, so I don’t think it’s normal hostel service anywhere else in the world

I went to the dutchies for the first time when i visited amsterdam with my friends. We were doing an eu rail trip so we were looking for cheap places to stay at and the dutchies was the best option! The location is good, it’s near a tram stop and also it’s not far from Sloterdijk train station, so it’s quick to get to the city center. I’m so glad we chose this hostel for our trip, the staff is really nice and the atmosphere there is very friendly. We met a lot of people while staying there and even went out partying with them, but you don’t really need to go out to party because on thursdays and fridays they open the hostel’s bar and there’s such a nice vibe. The staff is just amazing, they made us feel like home! Special mention to the receptionist called Blaise, he gave us some free drinks and also played some drinking games with us, he the best!! Also another receptionist called Luka, he made us some coffee the day we were leaving because it was very early in the morning, lovely detail we appreciated a lot! I liked the dutchies so much that I stayed there again like 4 months after the first time when I visited amsterdam for the second time, and will go back next time I travel to the city! I really recommend this hostel if you want to have a great time and good long lasting memories!! #DutchiesHostelReviewCompetition

It is far from the Amsterdam city centre 1 hour by walking, 20-30 min. by tram. You have to pay fot transportation. The hostel has kitchen which has fridge, free filter coffee and own. It has a nice lobby look like a cafe to eat and drink your meal. Rooms are narrow and very airless. The air conditioning system is poor and most of parts of the hostel are humid. There is no any restriction to eat and drink at rooms and it can cause very disgusting smells, especially some cultural cuisins at rooms and also at kitchen, coridor and lobby. Some people were very dirty and messy. Also the windows cannot open fully, the rooms don't have enough fresh air. They provide lock for the cabinet that are very tiny for luggages. The hostel can be very good for groups.

Smokers/Vapers have to be outside of building, u will receive a lock with a key upon check in. The spare cabinets for storage is at the bottom of the bunk beds. Try not to make noises at night in respect to those who re sleeping around u. Have fun !:)

We booked 3 beds in a room of 8 beds and it felt like we were in a prison room. A strange man was laying in one of our beds. There were only 2 beds free in our room.. The other people were all older men, they weren’t tourists.. the room was full with stuff. It looked like 2 people were living there for a long time. The beds were not clean. Multiple bloodstains on the bedsheets. Also located on the outside of center Amsterdam, an hour walk. Drunk older men in front of the building and inside. Don’t recommend at all, also not cheap. Spend a little more on a hotel and you’ll have a way better experience then staying here.. not worth the money. Girl at the reception was friendly tho.

The place was quite dirty, couldnt use the kitchen or the common areas, and the people in our room kept the windows open, switching on and off the lights during the night and had no respect whatsoever for who was in the space. We stayed for 4 nights and couldn't be more anxious to get out.

When travelling to learn about places and people, languages and cultures, it’s good to dedicate more than one or even two weeks for a trip. Visiting from United States I can say it’s not so easy to help other people here learn the value of actually living and breathing life of international cities. I’m grateful for hostels because it makes it possible to try to see the world. I was at Dutchies in spring of 2019, and as a solo female backpacker, this hostel is good! The design is chic and fun! The location is actually so cool when you walk to learn street names and see people. Lidl is a excellent supermarket so close by. I was not expecting nor anticipating making hostel friendships, and yet from the beginning it was actually very kind and warm welcome. Front desk were clear, precise, and helpful. Kitchen was clean and in good condition. Bathrooms are super sanitary. The rooms are so festive, and where I stayed was Audrey Hepburn themed. There were two other women from Belgium and Brussels and four Italian young men, and people were everyone laughing and being so kind and respectful as we each said words from our own languages and comparing the words and sounds for an hour before sleeping time. I only stayed for one night but would have stayed longer yet my fellow traveller arrived a day after me. I wasn’t expecting to tour sloterdijk when planning my travel from France initially, but I’m happy I went because it’s a very remarkable city with nice people. It seemed technological compared to amsterdam city center. The infused waters at the train station are delicious. Only ever did I see these working for a very chic hotelier. I explored to find the college of applied sciences and I’m sure your research is well because the culture to bicycle and have industry more to sustainable scale is far superior to the way USA is trending. One day maybe I’ll get to go again. Thank you for your all pleasantness and hospitality. You are much appreciate

Had a great time staying here - the kitchen was well kitted out, the staff were all very friendly, and we were right next to a supermarket and public transport stops. I really wanted to give this hostel five stars but the lockers were tiny, meaning we couldn’t fit our bags inside them. Sharing a room with a bunch of strangers is far less appealing when you have to worry about the safety of your things. Overall though had a good experience here and would probably stay again.

We stayed for two nights at Hostel Dutchies and would not stay again. First, the staff that served us on the first night was very bad. The lady at the reception didn't know practically anything about the Hostel's routines and also about the posters on the wall. For example, there was a sign saying “happy hour everyday from 9pm to 10pm” and we asked her how it works. She didn't know and do nothing to search this information! Second, the male's restroom on the first night was terrible. Someone threw up and the toilet bowl was overflowing with vomit. It took a few hours to clean up. Third, there is no signage in the rooms about the recommended time to turn off lights and good conduct guidelines. Also the ventilation in the room is very bad, which makes the room smelly depending on how many people are there and how often they shower. Fourth, the showers work with a button and you cannot regulate the temperature. This can be a nuisance for those who like hotter or colder baths. Positives are free coffee é and tea, comfortable bed and large closets.

The place is nice and clean, it has good vicinity to public transport and services. On the down side there is a terrible shortage of hangers!!! After you hang the jacket on the one on the room door, you don't know than where to put other clothes and the towel... XD

We just left and unfortunately had to get to the bus quickly and couldn't really say goodbye. It was a great stay and a very clean hostel. Super connected to the city and such a sweet cat. we will be back!

Pretty great place with a nice staff and clean lodging. Only downside is that the rooms don't have AC or a fan and with 10 people sleeping in one room it gets hot at night even with the windows open.
